Terrible experience with Cross Country Moving LLC. Do not recommend. We hired Cross Country Moving LLC to handle our relocation from Phoenix, Arizona to Monticello, Florida, with delivery occurring on May 17, 2025. We gave them a detailed list of all property to be moved including noting which ones were antiques. They quoted just over $12,000 for the move and we agreed. We confirmed everything a few days before the move. On the day of the move, the owner of the business, Mr. Guy Weis, came with a truck and crew and as they were losding the truck he said their estimate was wrong and we would have to pay over $18,000. We were in a difficult spot as we had made all the arrangements for the move so we very reluctantly agreed. Weis said there would be no other charges. When the movers arrived in Florida they insisted on an additional $300 because "it is a two-story house." Again, we felt we had to pay the additional fee. We feel they low-balled the estimate just to get the work knowing that they had put us in a position weher we would have to agree to pay the addtional monies or delay our move. They were not honest and demonstarted a lack of integrity in both the pricing of th move and their refusal to pay for damages they caused. The amount of damage done to our belongings was unacceptable. Over $1,500 worth of items were either broken or went missing, including: A torn leather reclining sofa Broken frame and caster on a coffee table Broken foot on an antique rocking chair Two damaged marble-top tables A broken vase Damage to a 58" TV (mounting sleeve removed) Missing lamp finial and headphones Broken trim on an antique armoire Marks on an antique night table Damage to my walls during move-in When we reached out to request compensation, the company refused to pay anything, claiming we needed to provide a Bill of Lading--which they never gave us at any point during the move. We have filed complaints and their responses make untrue assertions. The facts are exactly as outlined in this review. Moving a family of 5 with 3 small kids is hard. Finding good movers is apparently even harder. We are mid-move as we speak, having worked with Cross Country Moving to take our family from California to Wyoming. At this moment we have approximately half of our things and despite asking, zero communication or idea about when the other half of our things will arrive. Here's what you need to know if you're considering these folks. 1. Cross Country Moving is not honest. They'll tell you they aren't a broker and employ all of their workers...they don't. I know because the first half of our things delivered was delayed because the driver "couldn't find help." Example 2 - There are two options for insurance on your contract. When the driver shows up, they are going to tell you that the option that favors you as the owner is an option they simply don't offer. Instead, 60 cents per lb is the best you'll get or they walk. So if they break an expensive piece of electronics, you'll be entitled to what...$3.50?? 2. Visual Estimates are worthless. We had someone come to our home who was described as "one of the best." Not only did they severely under-scope the job, they also lied when they told me "since we came onsite, anything I don't account for we have to eat the cost." Instead, moving day arrived and we had to be out of the house...the driver tore up our estimate and let us know that if we wanted them to take our things that day, we'd have to write a new estimate. That one came in 40% higher than the original. 3. Prepare for underwhelming quality. We paid for a full-service move...unfortunately, the number of things broken and damaged has been more than I ever anticipated. I'm talking a single piece of paper wrapped around a nicely framed picture. I'm talking about a glass lamp just stuffed into a box with other random things. Look at how they treated the expensive mattresses in the attached pictures for literally hundreds of miles...unreal. 4. Get everything in writing and be fooled by the sales pitch. They'll verbally promise you the world. We were told we'd have our things in less than a week - which is exactly what we packed for. Instead it's been over a week and we have half of our things. We're calling every day and are getting nowhere. We had to buy bedding and clothes and just take it on the chin when we could have easily planned for more time. To say this was the worst experience of my life, still feels like a compliment. Nothing could have prepared me for over 2 weeks in transit - multiple calls just to get an ETA, being told that sleeping without a bed is part of the moving process as I shared my frustration with one of the CS. The fees? Don't even bother, because the quote you were given is about to triple. Your apartment is more than 75 feet from the truck? An extra 100$ for every 75 feet. Oh and if the address you gave them wel in advance and prior to delivery is too small for their truck semi? SLAP another 500 on your face. No, they won't say these notes on the call & you will think you have all the details, and sign the contract and THAT is when you meet hell. The emotional stress and trauma I've gone through at their hands is inconceivable. Imagine budgeting for an already expensive move and every step of the way, there is something added to your bill. Elevator fee: 75$ what's that you ask? No it's not that I lived up on a tower like rapunzel, and they had to walk all the way to Timbuktu with my furniture. It's a fee for WAITING in between elevator shuttles. If they could charge you for breathing in their presence, they would. All boohoo I'm sorry, I feel bad without doing anything about it. ON TOP OF ALL THAT, I have items missing. WTF The amount of hair I've lost in the past almost 3 weeks because of these folks? I could make a bloody damn wig (and just might). Here's the TLDR version: my estimate was $3974.01. When the foreman came and looked at my things, he very arbitrarily (without even consulting the estimate or going over my items) decided I had 200 cu ft ADDITONAL items, which led to a total increase--on the spot--of $2000. He literally, by eyeballing, decided I had 50% more things than I was quoted for, even though I actually had LESS items than my estimate. The explanation? "That estimate is computer generated; they are always off." NEVER in my 12 moves has an estimate been off THAT much. One of the movers (who loaded my things) kept going on pro-Trump/anti-Biden rants, praised RONALD REAGAN, referred to Christina Aguilera as a ***** (he allegedly moved her things once), and repeatedly spoke ill of Democrats. What this had to do with loading my things? I do not know. Am I a registered Democrat? Yes. I never received a call the day before to let me know when they would be arriving. I had to call, only to find out it would be 8am. I was told by Sandy to call the day before the scheduled pickup to go over my items/update my estimate, but when I did Lisa answered and told me it was too late for that, that I should have done so days before. When I spoke to Sandy the day of my move (to inform her how off the estimate was), Sandy responded, "I don't know why she told you that." They did handle my things with care as everyone said in the reviews. I'm just honestly shocked at what feels like a huge bait and switch. The long version: I moved from California to North Carolina. I got a quote from Cross Country Moving THINKING it was the same company that moved me to California (come to find out, it was not). Having had a great experience before, I decided to go with them. My move to California, with more items but shorter distance, was $4200. So, I was pleasantly surprised when my estimate came in at $3974.01 for 473 cf (3311 lbs). For transparency, my estimate included the following items: 1 bed frame; 1 bed, bridge headboard, 1 bed (queen with mattress), 10 small boxes, 20 medium boxes, 2 dining chairs, 1 dining table, 1 dresser (single), 1 garbage can, 1 large exercise equipment, 1 hamper, 1 lamp (floor), 4 medium plastic bins, 1 small area rug, 1 three-seat/bed sofa, 2 flat TV screens (33"-60"), 1 coffee table, and 4 end tables. What I actually took: 1 bed frame, 1 bed, bridge headboard, 1 bed (queen with mattress) - I have a queen bed with bedframe/headboard, basically. 12 small boxes (instead of 10) 15 medium boxes (instead of 20) 2 dining chairs/benches 1 dining table (small--the guy who unloaded my things thought it was a work desk). 1 dresser (single) 5 medium plastic bins (instead of 4) 1 small area rug 1 three-seat sofa 1 lamp 1 large exercise equipment 1 flat screen TV (instead of 2) 4 end tables No garbage can No hamper As you can see, I took 2 more additional small boxes and one additional medium bin, BUT I took FIVE less medium boxes, 1 less TV, no garbage can, and no hamper. They charge by VOLUME. So even if we were be generous the 2 additional small boxes and one additional medium bin are still LESS than the FIVE medium boxes I was quoted for and DID NOT TAKE, much less the TV, hamper, and garbage can I didn't take. I lived in a 600sq ft apartment. I was quoted for 437 cu ft, but the foreman just walked through my apartment, looked at my stuff, and said, "oh, you have 200 additional cubic feet." What that translates into is him saying I took my entire quote's worth of items (which I didn't), PLUS an ADDITIONAL HALF of my things (150%). On what basis? The computer always underestimates volume. Well, if the computer underestimates volume that much, why in the world would you still offer these estimates? When I reached out to Sandy, she said she'd look into it. Over a week went by, I heard nothing back, so I reached out. She simply wrote that, "dispatch informed me you had more space on the truck. It can be cause by extra items or bigger items than the system calculating as average size." Well, it wasn't extra items. As I've clearly demonstrated, I had LESS ITEMS. How much bigger could my items have been? All my boxes are in the dimensions of what they deem "medium" and "small." I asked before I bought them. The bins are the same size as the medium boxes. My dining room table is SMALL for a dining room table (picture included). Now, I'm not unreasonable. Even if it was $100-$200 extra dollars, I would've just been like, "ah, okay." But I literally paid $5,997--AFTER the foreman gave me a "discount" because he felt bad. That also meant I didn't have the correct cash on hand, so I had to charge it to my credit card, with a 4% fee. Imagine you were planning on spending $4000-$4500 for a move to be, on the day of, slapped with a $6000 bill. Getting my things was relatively smooth. I had so many things that the truck driver unloaded them ALL BY HIMSELF in just over an hour. He was amazing, def. deserves a raise. read more

With this being the first time moving cross country I received quotes from multiple companies, after selecting this one when they came to pick up not only did they try to add thousands more to my original quote but were rude about everything. It felt as if they were trying to take advantage of us. After having to call the person who originally gave us the quote to figure out why they were changing now, we just said ok to move forward we couldn't find someone else. Friday morning they arrived to pick up everything and were told it would arrive by Monday the following week. They ended up showing up on a Thursday thew everything in the garage broke multiple boxes ruined a tv with cracks. It looked like our boxes were deliberately wet. Some boxes with cups plates and other breakable items. Made huge dents in our new refrigerator but also ruined my wedding dress that was in a keepsake box. they also kept my dolly which they have yet to give back or call to schedule drop off. Also it is frustrating as they complained about us having to much stuff and requiring a bigger truck but was able to add another customers stuff within the same truck. We had to try multiple times in reaching out each one unsuccessful, until we used someone else's phone then we were able to finally reach someone. Cross Country Moving as brokers = My job is still in progress, but so far, I have payed more than double what my original estimate was, my belongings were taken to ship 7 days ago, and they still have not found a freight for my belongings, meaning they are sitting around in a warehouse somewhere, not moving to their final destination, for a week. This is after being told I should expect the items in 2-3 days, then 2-5 days, then 5-7 days, now up to 30 days. Calling their office everyday proves fruitless as I am told to call back the next day, every single consecutive day I call. My assigned Movers = Great job! Fast efficient. No stress.
