i've been here a few times and have had a great experience each time. sunday brunch is incredible, i had the chicken chilaquiles with red sauce and it was sooo good. i can't comment on whether it's authentic or not, but you can tell the chef knows what they're doing in the kitchen. this is upscale bar food. my boyfriend had the wings and he was happy with them (we are kinda picky about wings). also sat at the bar and it's just nice vibe. it hasn't really been too busy the times i've been there. i'm more of a cider drinker and the options available are good, they have it on tap which i appreciate because i hate cider from a can or bottle. the only downside was the loaded fries were much smaller portion than expected (for being an appetizer or bar snack for more than 1 person), it's plenty if that's your meal, and im pretty sure they're frozen fries, not handcut. either way, ill be back for good food and good bar vibes. grateful for this nice little spot here in crestview. read more

There was a straw laying in the middle of the entry by the host counter. We all had to walk over it, including the waitress, to get to our table. It was still there when we left. That says a lot about this place. We ordered 2 apps- jalapeños and brussel sprouts. The jalapeños looked burned, but they were in fact tasty... and the clear winner for the meal. The sprouts were missing the pickled onion, and were VERY greasy. We ordered 3 entrees- blackened redfish, chicken sandwich, and a burger. The burger was extra well done, so very dry. The chicken sandwich was missing the garlic Parmesan sauce. When asked about it, I was told it was on it. But it was clearly not on it. There is was orange colored seasoning on the chicken, but other than that, it was completely dry (and overcooked). I added ranch from the apps to make it edible. I'm not even a big fan of ranch, but the sandwich was too dry to eat without it. The blackened redfish description said it comes with gumbo jus and corn maque choux. Sounded so good! When it arrived, the plate appeared to have the fish and rice pilaf but nothing else on the plate. We alerted the waitress about the missing ingredients, and she returned to say that those things are in the dry seasoning on the fish. We know that's just not true. I told her that Maque choux is a corn mixture. She went to the kitchen window again and they talked for a while, and then returned with the corn a few minutes later. I then asked for lemon, because the fish was so incredibly dry. You could pick the whole thing up with a fork. We told her that we didn't know how you could overcook a fish that much. When the corn came out, it was completely inedible. It tasted of cigarette ash. After everyone was done- only eating around half of our meals, the waitress came over to say that she made a mistake. She put in an order for a blackened chicken instead of blackened redfish. OK, mistakes happen. But how could her, and three people from the kitchen staff not figure out what happened. And even though we now know it was chicken, and not fish... It was probably about 5 ounces of chicken cut very thin. So even as chicken, it was overcooked to the point to be practically inedible. She asked what she could do to make it right, and although I hated to pay for anything except for the jalapeños, I just said she could take off the meal that she got incorrect. We paid for everything else and left. And yes, I still gave her a 20% tip because she seemed genuinely confused. Upon reflection, she should've seen that the plates were not even halfway eaten and offered to do more. On the way home, one of us started filling sick, and within a couple of hours two of the three of us were very sick, with one of us still struggling after a couple of days. I visit Crestview often as that's where my mother lives and we always try to support local businesses and avoid chains. But unfortunately, this type of experience is not isolated at this restaurant. It just happened to be the worst experience we've had so far at a Crestview restaurant. read more

It was ok as a pub food. It was filling. A lot of salty food. Fries was nice and fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. The stars drop with the main entree. There's the blackended chicken breast. Description was a "generous" portion, but it was like a quarter of a chicken breast. The rice it came with was very underwhelming, overall a disappointing meal. The wings were dry to me. I could taste the burnt bits. You can see on the picture how blackended it looks. Overall, I would not go back here again for the items we got. I'd be willing to try again on other fried food, items that could be dipped in the deep fryer and call it a day. read more

My wife and I had never been to the crooked tail. We had heard many nice things and decided to check it out. They did not have any nonalcoholic beers. I know nobody cares about that but believe it or not there are people out there that drink nonalcoholic drinks to include beer. On that particular night, my wife had a cheeseburger which was really good and I had a New York strip with Madera sauce and everything was hot, which you don't get a lot lately but everything was hot and tasted well. Fresh vegetables, fresh salad. Everything seem to be very good . The atmosphere was very nice the night we were there somebody was playing guitar and singing he was having fun and I think the guys up there were too. We were in the back talking, but it seem like everybody there was having a great time. Our server was excellent. We never had to wait for any refills or anything like that. It wasn't very expensive. Great spot for small or large gatherings- especially for out-of-towners staying in the area for weddings or other events. My niece was getting married at Laurel Hill Farms and we had about 40 people all from out of state (myself included) staying in the area and arriving the night before the wedding. Wanting a place to meet up before the wedding I called several venues in Crestview. Not only was Crooked Tale one of the few places to call me back, they called me back immediately and were extremely accommodating and flexible with timing, guest count, not forcing a fixed menu, and allowing for everyone to pay their own bill (as opposed to me fronting it). The night of our gathering they had ample space and live music was an added bonus. The area reserved for us was perfect because we could sit and eat as well as walk around and stand so we could catch up with family we haven't seen in years. Our dedicated server Kyleigh was super friendly and responsive. Despite about 40 of us (in addition to their usual crowd) cocktails and food came out promptly and the food was hot. Not a single mix up in the orders and all food was cooked to our request. And the food was delicious!!! I wish I lived closer because I'll be craving their wings, fries and chicken sandwich for a long time. Highly recommend the bourbon maple bacon and spicy Korean wings..and the bogart bombers (jalapeños wrapped in bacon) were to die for. Others ordered burgers, salads, and sandwiches and all were very pleased. Every single person in our large party commented that it was the perfect place for a casual pre-party to the wedding (and if you are from a large family you know someone normally finds something to complain about). Interesting menu items, friendly staff that is as attentive as you want. I usually am there for a long sit down with my friends, and they are quick to take our orders, deliver the food, check on us occasionally to refill drinks, then let us sit and chat. The outside patio is next to the road, but on a good evening when the weather is just right, it's the perfect place to sit and relax. I've been there for a live music night, and it was a lot of fun...someday I want to go for the trivia night! The only issue I might have, and it's sort of minor, is that the parking can be difficult at peak meal time. Mostly having to turn right to exit onto the highway can be slightly frustrating, but that's not the business's fault....and the food is worth any driving "issues". read more

Eggs were black and cooked to a crisp. My son ordered the eggs Benedict and it was also cold, but the worst part was it was served on a metal tray with paper. Under the paper was partially eaten sausage! They served it on a dirty tray!! So disgusting and unsanitary. My wife, daughter and granddaughters food was all ice cold or came out incorrectly. I cannot bring myself to spend a single dollar and eat there again. Totally grossed out over the whole experience. Thank you for making our Mother's Day brunch a disaster and making us all feel sick after seeing that you served food on a dirty tray with partially eaten food under the paper. Went for a brunch, probably around 11-12p on a Saturday with a group of friends. The place was pretty quiet and empty. Our waitress was nice. The service for such an empty place was SO SLOW. We waited over 1.5 HOURS for our food to arrive. I got the breakfast burrito. It was the flattest, driest, most empty breakfast burrito I've ever had. What a disappointment. Had the meat wagon burger. Great concept for a burger, but extremely disappointing. The burger was cold and the bun was horrible. The bun started falling apart the minute I tried to pick it up. The same thing happened on previous visit. The bartender was fantastic and constantly checking on you. The setting is decent with sports playing. Let me preface by saying I was a server for 8 yrs and know the struggle but this was exceptionally bad and the food was barely luke warm and took FOREVER (1 hr 20 mins). HIGHLY DON'T RECOMMEND unless you like cold food after waiting for over an hour! We got there at 11:30 to have lunch with friends. Sat down and the server promptly came over to get drink order and quickly brought our waters . We the placed our appetizer order as well as an order of burger sliders for my son. 35 minutes later, no app, no food for the kiddo. Asked the server what was going on and she replied " she would go check" . Came right back with cold loaded fries and sliders. Kept waiting for the omelet and wings. I saw the "manager" clearing tables and asked him what was up with the food taking so long. He said they were busier than normal....cool understand that, but do your job, go to tables and tell them that. Finally got lukewarm omelet and wings. Looked good except my wife's $19.00 order of 12 wings magically had 3 tenders and 9 actual wings. That was all I could take before asking to see manager again and to take the wings off the tab. He never approached the table to apologize or anything. We paid and left. I left the server a decent tip since it wasn't her fault BTW. HIGHLY DONT RECOMMEND!! read more

We went for dinner on a Thursday, which is Trivia night. Trivia night seems to be popular and there was a lively group playing. The hostess asked if we were playing, and since we were not, she considerately seated us on the other side of the restaurant. We were the only ones on that side of the restaurant until another couple were seated shortly after us. There was a table piled with napkins and supplies against the wall in the dining area, and no condiments or anything at all on the tables, which kind of detracted from the atmosphere. It felt a little bit like we were eating in a deserted, unused corner that was only being pressed into service to accommodate those choosing not to participate in Trivia night. Our server was friendly and polite. Not super attentive, but I figure the Trivia night group on the other side probably kept her busy. We ordered an appetizer from the seasonal menu, which did not arrive until after our meals had been served. I enjoyed the bruschetta. My husband wasn't crazy about it. The side salads were lovely. Nice mixed greens with good toppings. We had trouble with the greens spilling over the edge of the tiny plates, so larger salad plates would have been nice. The wings looked overcooked and blackened in places, but my husband said that only a couple seemed dried out. He said they were spicy, but not particularly flavorful. My food looked plain and unappealing, with no garnishes or anything. It looked like hospital food. The chicken breast had good flavor, but was very dry and the rice didn't have a lot of flavor. We were disappointed. We ate there a couple of years ago, right after they opened, and it took a lot of convincing to get my husband to give it another try. Since there aren't a lot of local dining options I'm sure we'll eventually make it back there, but we're not going to be in a rush to do so. read more

I will 1st start off by saying the food here is AMAZING! The BEST wings I've had anywhere, hands down! Every dish we have ordered was awesome, no complaints. The big complaint I now have with Gastropub and now second guess our visits is the "kid friendly" area within the restaurant. This used to be a stage where live singers would sit and play which was nice. Now this area is used as a kids play area. We visited the restaurant on a Saturday afternoon, 3 adults. There was a table of about 6 adults and about 4 kids near where we were seated. It appeared when we walked in, the adults were done with their meals and were having a good time talking and enjoying each other company. While they did this, the rest of us had to listen to their children scream and cry on the stage "play area". The play area consisted of the jumbo Jenga blocks which means every time those blocks fell, they made such a loud noise. I jumped the 1st time I heard it, it was so loud. Having to listen to this my entire meal was too much and made my experience less than expected. The adults who were sitting visiting with each other stayed longer bc their children were being entertained by these toys so F the rest of us who had to be bothered by their kids during our meal. This same day, I watched a man at the bar give the kids a look while the blocks fell loudly to the ground. I thought "oh good, its not just me that is annoyed." I have a problem with restaurants feeling as if they have to entertain people's children during their visit. This only satisfies one person...the parent. While the other customers have to just sit and deal with it. It isn't fair as we also pay to enjoy our meal. I won't be back to this PUB bc it is no longer a pub but a restaurant where parents can ignore their children and enjoy THEIR meal. No thanks. read more

We went here for a dinner about a year ago and the food was amazing. We ordered twice to go in the last couple months and it has been so salty, we could barely eat it. Wings and appetizers were so full of salt, it could have killed every slug in earth. The fish tacos and burgers, however, are amazing, as was The Godfather sandwhich. The burgers did have salt added to them as well which became overpowering after a while the last time we at them. I don't know if they changed chefs/recipes or I'm crazy (because the place is always full). But they are using triple the salt needed. read more

We started with the cheese curds and they were incredibly delicious. The portion of curds was large! It was the perfect amount for my family of four to start off. I had the Flying Dutchman's fish tacos with sweet potato fries. The tacos were great but those sweet potato fries are where it's at!! They had a cinnamon sugar dusting and it was like a sweet treat after a very satisfying meal. My husband had the South of the Border burger and it looked phenomenal! Tonight is New Years Eve. Our little boy had a surprising basketball practice. It was last minute and it threw a big wrench into our plans for New Year's Eve. It is always important to support the kids, so we went to practice. Afterwards the most logical place in Crestview, FL is Crooked Tale. First, let me sing the praises of Kayle Murray. She has been the best server we have ever had at Crooked Tale. She was in command. It was the busiest we have ever seen it there and you would not have known it with Kayle. She greeted on time, she paid attention, and we never had to wait on her. To this point the food has always kept the place up. Today, we want to come back because of Kayle. Last time we visited and ordered the Philly cheesesteak and it was the most embarrassing amount of meat to sandwich ratio. It literally was two strips of meat that caused the manager to come see. So soft, cold, squishy crap. My mom ordered a steak medium, came out raw. Doesn't looked like they even know what they are doing in the kitchen. One of my favorite places in Crestview to relax. Their beer selection continues to improve and their food is excellent. My favorite is their fish tacos. Amazing. The staff is very friendly and attentive to your needs, no matter how busy they get. It's an excellent place to bring family and friends.
