Mama's something. We added French toast instead of two pancakes.

Friendly service. Prices are reasonable. Food was great. Hash browns can be better though.

We were running super early for the Girl's State orientation so we decided to grab a bite to eat. The Tropical Palm Restaurant is located in Crestview's revitalized historic downtown district which lends some ambiance. Unless you live in or near Crestview, you may not wander off the I-10 far enough to visit this establishment. The Tropical Palm is what you would expect when walking into a small town local eatery and not really reflective of their name unlike the Sharecropper in Blytheville, AR. The menu is very similar representing good ole southern home cooking with a few more worldly options. If you are wanting to experience fine dining or a tropical ambiance similar to what you would find in the Caribbean or Pacific island destinations then you will be disappointed. But if you are looking for a good belly filling grub with an old worn looking charm, then you will not be disappointed. Staff was friendly and the limited menu is perfect for their regular customers and visitors alike. Service was at a more leisurely sit down restaurant pace allowing easy conversation and the ability to have short conversations with other patrons. Absolutely loved the atmosphere for what it was with families and friends abound visiting one another. We ordered Mama Orene's Breakfast which was a hit with my daughter. She really enjoyed the fluffy pancakes with whipped butter and syrup. My wife had the Everything But the Kitchen Sink Omelette which she failed to finish walking away with two sandwich boxes of food. With large, as in several half patty's of sausages, encased with a multitude of other fixings it more than hit the spot. Lastly, I had the Western Omelette and it filled me up. The biscuits were warm, fluffy and soft as biscuits should be and the grits were, well, grits. I love them because they were as close to rice gruel as American cuisine gets. The sausage gravy was better than Cracker Barrel's but a far cry from the gravy made by my father-in-law's and eldest son. The restrooms were single person and like the restaurant, aged with a few new fixtures. It was generally clean. Overall, the value, atmosphere and food makes it a better option than chain restaurants serving a similar menu. I wouldn't consider it a must visit destination, but if you happen to be in Crestview, then, it's a very pleasant stop.

Open faced roast beef with mashed potatoe

I was looking for a place to eat lunch and saw this place. So, I thought I 'd check it out. It was 11am already and their customers were eating breakfast. Kinda late for breakfast, I thought. I was hungry, but not breakfast. I looked at the menu and saw that they had open faced roast beef with mash potatoe. I ordered that with sweat tea. It looked good, but it didn't taste as good as it looked. The beef was soooo dry. The gravy was meh, and the only thing good was the mash potatoes. Maybe that was why the other customers were eating breakfast and not lunch.

My family and I were visiting the town & saw the great reviews left on here. I ordered the (1)biscuit and sausage gravy with link sausage & a side of hash browns (served all day). My dish was good, but I did not like the link sausage. We were not greeted very friendly from the start. The waitress never came to check up on us... not even asked if we needed a refill (which we needed)!! We won't be stopping by here again and we don't recommend you coming here if you are visiting the town either.

I wish I could leave no stars . Stopped in here with my family while on vacation . I read the reviews and saw nothing but good things being said . Decided to try it out . Big mistake ! We were in the mood for breakfast , it was 12:30 pm and was told they stopped serving breakfast . Ok no problem . I ordered the club sandwich . Was so upset when they brought my plate . Club sandwich is made with chicken NOT ham . They made theirs with ham . Not a fan of it . My husband ordered coffee to drink and not once did the waitress come and ask if he needed a refill or to check if any of us needed refills etc etc . Save yourself the disappointment and go to another restaurant where the workers are friendly and check on their customers .

My son and I check out of our hotel and needed spot to for breakfast. Our target? A charming little…read morecafé that looked like it had big dreams and about 85% of the throw pillows to prove it. We grabbed seats at the bar--prime real estate for both people-watching and silent negotiations with the universe about how long coffee should take to arrive. The menu got a thorough inspection while we waited. And waited. Not a hostile wait. More like... a polite standoff between us and the concept of service. Eventually, victory. Orders placed. I went all in: biscuits and sausage gravy, eggs over easy, maple bacon--the kind of breakfast that doesn't whisper "good morning," it kicks the door in and demands respect. My son went classic with French toast and sausage, a choice that says, "I trust the fundamentals." Now, let's talk ambiance. Coffee in paper cups. Not a dealbreaker, but it does send a subtle message: "We're still figuring some things out." The interior felt like a Pinterest board mid-argument--close, but not quite ready for the reveal episode. Service? Nice. Professional. Also slightly resembling a live-action game of pinball. Our waitress was great, but the overall flow had a certain freestyle jazz quality--improvised, energetic, and occasionally confusing. Refills were more of a "self-reflection exercise" than an offered service, so ordering extra water was a tactical masterstroke. But then... the food arrived. And just like that, all sins were forgiven. That biscuit and sausage gravy? Absolute bullseye. The kind of dish that makes you pause mid-bite and question whether your childhood memories have been quietly outperformed. It didn't just taste homemade--it tasted like someone's mom was in the back, judging everyone and getting it right. The French toast held its own--golden, solid, no nonsense. Exactly what it needed to be. So here's the deal: the service may have been running a little behind the breakfast parade, but the food? Leading the band, confetti cannon and all. Final verdict: 4 stars. Not because it couldn't be 5--but because it's this close. Tighten up the service, ditch the paper cups, finish decorating like you mean it, and you've got a heavyweight contender. Until then, it remains a gem--slightly unpolished, but absolutely worth the stop.

Weekends seem to be busy, so be prepared to wait a little. You can call ahead and get on their waiting list, they don't take reservations. Our servers were wonderful both times. First time we went I ordered the Maque Choux Benedict. The base was beautiful Golden brown Green Tomatoes instead of English muffin, delicious Crab cakes on top of that, topped off with poached eggs, scratch made maque choux, Creole Hollandaise, Andouille sausage, green onions and dusted with paprika. My sister got the Crawfish Egg-toufee. It also had the fried green tomatoes as the base, topped with Bacon, poached eggs, Creole Hollandaise, Crawfish and green onion. Both dishes were delicious. The Maque Choux Benedict was so good I devoured the entire dish. It's a really filling dish so it was perfect before the hike my sister and I went on.
