Horrible experience with the Ann Arbor Critter Control. Called at 8am to say there was a raccoon in the trap, yay! I was told my service window was 10-12, that passed. called and it was 1:30-3:30pm, that passed. called again, by 4:20pm that passed. The local office manager was suppose to call me, that never happened. now it's 5:20pm and they can't get a hold of anyone because they are all "in the field". The raccoon has been in a trap for 17 hours in sub freezing temps exposed to the wind without water and there is still no time frame and no communication. I paid $1000 for humane removal, how is that humane? I was told once the animal is trapped its swift service. I'm still here waiting for a call, absolutely shameful. I do NOT recommend! read more

I do not recommend this company in Ann Arbor for wildlife removal. I was misled regarding expectations. They presented it as if they would be coming and continuously removing wildlife trapped whereas they left only two traps. On at least half of the days of the week the trap was closed the next day with the food removed with nothing in it. They couldn't explain why this happened. When I inquired about leaving only two traps the employee said that he could leave a third because he was done for the day and didn't need it. One day they left the trap and almost immediately it caught an animal and I called asked him if he could come get it so that in the next 24 hours we'd be able to catch another and he would not. I lost out on an opportunity and the animal then had to sit there for an entire day trapped waiting for him to come get it. The person who came out was not very experienced. read more

1st day of school, what could go wrong? Starting with a bat hanging from the cafeteria wall, pretty much everything! I called Critter Control and after assessing the situation over the phone, Scott came out within half an hour to help rid us of this flying rodent. After safely boxing it up for us to either, release or have tested, Scott checked the perimeter to make sure this was a rogue flyer and not a developing problem. Luckily, it was just a lone chiropteran. This is the day a little, 5-inch bat almost derailed orientation for a group of new students, but in the end it was a great story to be told at home and an exciting way to start a new school year. I paid this company $149 to perform an inspection to determine how bats were entering my home. A technician came out and looked around the house and then sent me an estimate for $1100 in repairs. When I asked for the results of the inspection, they only could provide the estimate of $1100. That's the only information I received: how much they would charge me to fix the "problems" they found. What exactly did I pay for? Don't let this business rip you off. read more

I purchased every pest control and eradication program that Critter Control offered for over $2,500.00 including its wildlife trapping service. However, once one animal was allegedly trapped, the wildlife program was over, which was within one week of it the program starting. Essentially, wildlife removal only comes one trap and, maybe, one animal trapping and relocations. Unfortunately, most animals (particularly those that become pests) reproduce prolifically and the same or different animals may return several times. Critter Control charges the full $599.00 fee for EACH trapping. This is unreal and unconscionable. It does not cost $599.00 per wildlife trapping even if the Critter Control personnel has to check the trap. Critter Control could install unmanned solar cameras on its traps where possible to view traps remotely but to charge $599.00 per trapping is a ripoff. I will never use Critter Control again unless the company changes its billing and service practices. I still have animals burrowing at the footing of my home. This, surprisingly, is not covered by the exclusion program nor is it covered by the wildlife trapping that I paid for about six (6) months to a year ago. I could understand if there was a limit on the number of total visits to set a new trap within a year but to set ONE trap and to trap ONE animal for $599.00 is ridiculous and extortionate. read more

Poor experience. Technician improperly installed bat valves. Only identified a few exterior points of entry. Didn't listen to me, the person who lives in the house. Another company had to come out and seal all points of entry and replace the improperly installed bat valves. Complete waste of money. read more

A few weeks ago my husband came into the living room from his office upstairs and said, "I think we have squirrels in the house." My blood ran cold. Those f@#$ers had taken over our (admittedly already pretty shoddy) garage and now they were coming for the house. "Not on my effin' watch." I said. And I immediately called Critter Control. The woman on the phone was super pleasant and had someone out to our house the day after next. Greg came out and calmed my fears, explaining it would be easy enough to get them and that this was pretty common in our neighborhood. He gave the roof a once over and found the entry and exit points and set two traps to get those little bastards. It took a few days for the squirrels to get used to them and get curious enough about them but little by little we caught them, one by one. It took about a week and a half but in the end we caught 5 (1 adult and 4 juveniles) and they took them out of our hood 7 miles away where they will hopefully never find their way back to our humble abode. After a few days of monitoring the entries to make sure there weren't any others, they sealed up the holes and we were good to go. This last part was about a week ago and we're still squirrel free so fingers crossed no new families find their way in, but if they do we're under a 30 day "guarantee" so they'll take care it for us. In general the visits were fairly low key, the CC folks came and went quietly and without needing us to be home. They checked the traps every day and I would call them whenever I would see we caught one to let them know to come gather them. They fixed the holes without needing to come into our house or for us to even be home, so it was nice and convenient. The price was a base price that included the capture of up to 6 squirrels and then a little extra for the repairs. It was more than I had hoped to spend (and by that I mean I wish I didn't have to spend anything at all but that's what we get for living in a fairly wooded area) but it was less than I thought it was going to be so I guess I can't complain! Overall we had a great experience and hopefully we'll never need to call them again but if we do have a critter issue I'd hire them again without hesitation. read more

Our home inspector reports that when he arrived at our new house there were two groundhogs "frolicking" on the driveway. In addition, there was a groundhog-sized tunnel leading through our stone (!) foundation wall nearby, undermining our foundation. They chewed through the porch. They potholed the lawn. They used one of our crawlspaces as a dining room. We needed help. The result? Groundhog #1 (who our daughter named "Thomasson" for some reason), Groundhog #2 ("Wide Load"), and Groundhog #3 ("Baby") are now living fulfilling lives in the county park, along with Opossum #1 ("Dignified Opossum") and Opossum #2 ("Young Opossum Doesn't Like It"). Mr. Nonchalant Raccoon, trapped twice, continues his carefree life ambling around our property, as we released him and he appears tame. Excitable Red Squirrel was also freed but we have never seen him again (he's excitable!). The service was excellent. The staff was knowledgeable, humane, and competent (one was also a wildlife rescue volunteer on the side, and was nursing various crippled wild things back to health when he got home from work). I never use Yelp to write reviews, but you need to stay a way from this company. We have a skunk problem in our yard and called critter control to set traps. They told us we had a 10 day guarantee just like a guy below. What they don't tell you on Saturday they close the traps because they are closed on Sunday. Well we got 7 or 8 days, then the technician told my girlfriend that he has 2 other houses with a skunk problem and he hasn't caught a skunk at either location and that he thinks they are using the wrong bait. Also the creepy technician told my girlfriend she had nice legs and made her feel uncomfortable. I would not recommend this company to anyone, especially when at night i saw the skunks jumping over the traps to get back to the whole they dug under my porch. read more

Very poor communication and no manners. CC set two traps near my condo in order to catch a groundhog that was burrowing under the building and trying its best to create an exit behind the trim in my master bathroom. The groundhog was caught in the trap, but was released by my neighbor who does not believe in catch and relocate. Weeks went by; the traps were reset multiple times, and we finally caught an opossum. However, the opossum disappeared, and I observed that both traps had been sprung. Thinking it was the neighbor again, I reset the traps. I caught the groundhog. I tried calling CC, but they were closed for the weekend. I bought the groundhog a rabbit water bottle and attached it to the cage. I fed it kale and other groundhog delicacies through the mesh all weekend. Finally, we reached CC on Monday. They came out and got the groundhog. Feeling badly about the whole thing, I called CC on Tuesday to see where they had released the groundhog, and if it had seemed okay. The lady who answered was incredibly nasty. She told me my questions were "irrelevant." She couldn't tell me whether the creature was okay; whether they had let it go somewhere, or if they had killed it. If the former, she couldn't tell me where they had let it go. She demanded to know why I needed to know that. I couldn't believe how nasty she was. I told her I had taken care of it all weekend and had seen how scared it was. Knowing it had been let go away from people in a decent environment would have made me feel better. Nope. No empathy at all. She added insult to injury by telling me that they had released the opossum and a chipmunk on site from the traps and were supposed to have left a note. The technicians were also supposed to have left notes when they sprang the traps for the weekend. They left NO communication. RUDE. read more

Well, the results of hiring the Scott Purr at Whitmore Lake Critter control. He came out and set traps said we had a 10 day guarantee of the traps set up of which if there is no catch then after 10 days the agreement is done and traps go away. Well , there was no catch . He closed the traps up on Fridays to Mondays due to taking the weekends off. He set the trap up on Feb. 27th at 1:00pm , closed them on Friday March 2nd to March 5th and came and picked up his traps on March 9th. We feel we really only had a 7 full day of the traps set up. Maybe 7 full days. More like 6. Very disappointed. Best to buy your own traps. Just my opinion. He was very unfriendly as well. Very un approachable. read more

I had a bat in my apartment. Twice. In both instances I had good experiences with Critter Control employees, all very nice and helpful. The first time (a few years ago), they were able to find the bat and remove it. The other time (today), they were unable to find it, and a friend ended up coming over to help that evening when it was flying around again. Which gets me to my only complaint about Critter Control: the hours. They have an emergency answering service, but don't seem to dispatch anyone after business hours. An employee gave me a call in the evening and came the next morning each time. When it comes to bats, this is unfortunate, since you know, they're nocturnal. So while everyone I've dealt with there has been perfectly pleasant, this seems to be a flaw in the service. Also worth noting-- it's pretty expensive, more than $100, even if they don't catch the bat, $30 more dollars if they do. The service call is valid for 30 days though, so that's nice. So I'll give them four stars because the employees are so nice and my complaints are probably mostly relevant for nocturnal animals only. read more

Once we had a racoon in the chimney. The Critter Control guy walked up our steep roof, pulled her out, and walked down holding her in such a way as to avoid being attacked. What a skill!!! When wild animals invade your space, there's no choice but to remove them. read more

Avoid this place. We hired this company in Winter to check the attic because we heard some noises at night. They said it was bats and would install a bat valve, but would not be able to do it until spring, maybe sooner if the weather was mild (3 months after the 1st appt). We call several times in April and asked when they would complete the job. The secretary said they were currently busy. We wrote them an email saying that we would like to cancel the job, and hired another contractor to seal up the hole. They came without verifying with us in Mid June and caulked some small hole and now they want $140! Don't waste your time and money with these guys. They are a scam. If I could rate zero stars, I would. read more

Would never hire this Co again and wish I never would have. I Do not recommend they started job last year never completed it after many different calls and saying they would be out. A year later after many calls and the problem being still there they now tell me it's a new problem which it is not. It's exactly the same as the reason they were called in first place . They want me to pay again. Employees are nice but always say they will talk to their boss and get back to me and never do. Then after 3-4 calls they finally come back out. Do not call them if you have a problem with bats in your attic they don't know how to get rid of them. I'm done with them I will hire someone else. read more

We hired Critter Control of Ann Arbor to get rid of an animal in our home that we felt was larger than a mouse. Their suggestion was to try and trap the animals outside and then plug the entry points to the home. I believe they caught every animal in the neighborhood except the ones we hired them to catch. They collected their traps Friday, billed us $350 dollars, failed to block the entry points to our home and we are still left with the same problems we had when we called them in the first place. Don't waste money like we did. It's cheaper to buy a have a heart trap and do it yourself. read more

I was initially very impressed with Critter Control. The tech that I initially dealt with, Greg, was excellent. He was very thorough in determining that we had birds getting into two different areas of our "attic" even though his initial gut feel is that bats were the problem. I have found dead birds in those attic areas. I have never seen a bat around our house. Well, things went downhill from there. I called about two weeks after I agreed to have the recommended mitigations done and found out Greg was no longer with Critter Control and they could not even give me an estimate of when the work would be done. The plan was to install two bird excluders and patch some gaps. Before Greg was 100% sure it was birds, he told me that if the problem was bats the cost would be the same, as bat excluders cost the same as bird excluders ($50 each). Finally, after a month a tech showed up to do the work (while I was not home) and installed *one* *bat* excluder at a cost of $100. I called to complain and was told, well the cost is the same. I guess they only look at the total cost and not the fact that I got less for my money. Plus, I hope there was not any birds in the area they simply sealed off instead of installing an excluder. This franchise may have been good in the past, but in my opinion it is not very good now. This was my first experience using them. I will not use them again! read more
