Neighborhood keep us abreast of the weather/schedule and came and did the job as soon as the weather allowed. They kept both the integrity of the roof and the need to meet a time deadline in mind and really helped us out. I did not climb up there at the time to see for myself. Then I got two more opinions (one from another company, the other from energy auditor from the city) and one time I followed to have a look. They both said (and it was clear to see) that the attic already had plenty existing insulation (about R50). The Spink rep obviously gave me wrong information in the hopes of selling me an unneeded expensive service. Buyer beware!

After a kitchen remodel on our ~1950s home, we found ice forming on the tops of some of our…read morerecessed lighting cans in the attic during winter, meaning we did not have good insulation and air flow in our attic. We had both Home Depot and Spink come out and quote us on adding insulation and fixing air flow problems (installing baffles, clearing insulation from soffit vents). Both quotes were almost dead-on pricewise (within $10), but Spink's quote included more insulation, getting us to minimum R50 in our attic, whereas HD was less. Additionally, Spink was able to schedule the job within a week, whereas HD was booking 2+ weeks out. Finally, Spink also offered to do and submit the paperwork for DTE rebates, which is a nice bonus. The installers arrived and got right to the job. Joe got into our attic, poked around for a few minutes, and immediately explained everything, in intricate detail, to my wife and I. What they were going to do, the air flow issues they noted, how much insulation they were going to add, etc... They put down drop cloths to protect our newly-refinished hardwood floors, and they were careful to get the worst of snow/salt off their boots when coming inside (it was actively snowing outside). Within about 2 hours, they had completed the job and cleaned up. Again, Joe went through all the details of what they had done, and made sure we were happy. I took a peek up in the attic, and we ultimately ended up with close to 18" of insulation, which is even above R50 (R50 is about 15.5"). We were very happy with Spink, and would definitely recommend them for any insulation job in the Ann Arbor area.

Their promises of potential utility savings are understandably vague, Our 35 year old home is well insulated and with quality windows, does not have ducts passing through unheated crawl space or attic. Month to month and even year over year it is hard to precisely measure energy use and savings because each season and year has varying temperatures. However, overall after three years of experience, I believe that sealing ductwork improved our comfort and HVAC efficiency and it was a good longterm investment.

The work was extremely sloppy, and we had spray foam in the basement carpet, smeared onto door handles and splattered onto my tools and onto visible portions of the basement walls/ceiling. In addition, they incorrectly installed an attic door insulated cover. Most significantly, they did some minor damage to my concrete driveway. I complained about the sloppy work, and subsequently didn't hear from them at all for more than 3 months, at which point I received a bill. I dealt with Rob Patterson, who agreed to give me a break on the bill due to there major delay in getting back to me. However, he refused to even apologize or address any of my concerns regarding the sloppy work.

However, turns out they didn't fill the entire wall with insulation and they came out and drilled big holes in my walls on the inside and filled up the rest. However, they informed me it would be my responsibility to fill in the holes. I complained to the job boss and he sent a guy over to take care of it. However, he made a comment about how much I complained about it but I didn't. How rude. I would no way recommend this company. And, of course, now I had 3 + rooms that I had to re-paint. No happy.

They were unable to finish the entire job today but that was my fault. I had obstacles in the way where they could not get to some of the walls. But they agreed to come back in the future when we get the garage organized to do the remaining 250 square feet. The entire job with about 2500 square feet of wall area took 3.5 hours. They were on-time, arriving within 10 minutes of the estimated start. They cleaned up thoroughly before they left. They did the noisy activities all at once at the start so there was no persistent noise. The project leader was polite and respectful. The siding was re-installed without damage and there is no visual evidence that it was ever removed. (I am not suggesting that they did not apply the foam. I saw the added foam. I am saying that they re-installed it so well that it was as good a job as the builders did when they built the house.) The mortar used to refill the holes drilled in the brick is almost a perfect match, and will no doubt look even better after it weathers for a few months. I already sense some of the benefit because outside noise from trucks and aircraft seems to be reduced.
