Sales rep from Spink came out to evaluate the amount of attic insulation at my place and said it…read morewas R 20-25, thus I should get added blown insulation. I did not climb up there at the time to see for myself. Then I got two more opinions (one from another company, the other from energy auditor from the city) and one time I followed to have a look. They both said (and it was clear to see) that the attic already had plenty existing insulation (about R50). The Spink rep obviously gave me wrong information in the hopes of selling me an unneeded expensive service. Buyer beware!

After a kitchen remodel on our ~1950s home, we found ice forming on the tops of some of our…read morerecessed lighting cans in the attic during winter, meaning we did not have good insulation and air flow in our attic. We had both Home Depot and Spink come out and quote us on adding insulation and fixing air flow problems (installing baffles, clearing insulation from soffit vents). Both quotes were almost dead-on pricewise (within $10), but Spink's quote included more insulation, getting us to minimum R50 in our attic, whereas HD was less. Additionally, Spink was able to schedule the job within a week, whereas HD was booking 2+ weeks out. Finally, Spink also offered to do and submit the paperwork for DTE rebates, which is a nice bonus. The installers arrived and got right to the job. Joe got into our attic, poked around for a few minutes, and immediately explained everything, in intricate detail, to my wife and I. What they were going to do, the air flow issues they noted, how much insulation they were going to add, etc... They put down drop cloths to protect our newly-refinished hardwood floors, and they were careful to get the worst of snow/salt off their boots when coming inside (it was actively snowing outside). Within about 2 hours, they had completed the job and cleaned up. Again, Joe went through all the details of what they had done, and made sure we were happy. I took a peek up in the attic, and we ultimately ended up with close to 18" of insulation, which is even above R50 (R50 is about 15.5"). We were very happy with Spink, and would definitely recommend them for any insulation job in the Ann Arbor area.

I got blown in insulation in my basement. First off they showed up 40min late and I had to be out…read moreof the house for 24hrs and came home to a disaster. A mess everywhere. Old insulation all over the place, my wall and lights destroyed, and they left trash. The amount of left over insulation on the ground in some parts of my basement is just appalling too. The owner came out and did try to compensate and apologized and I thought that was it. It was until I found this razor blade wrapped in duct tape they left somewhere in my basement that my dog found and was chewing on it. Luckily she was uninjured. But I also have two young kids and two pets I could only imagine what could of happened. I called them and they didn't even care and now ignoring my calls. Don't waste your time and just go with someone else.

He told me about the products he installed, and the important relationship of insulation to ventilation. He found that I had insulation behind the exterior walls, so did not try to sell me insulation for the walls that I did not need. He was not a high pressure sales guy like the other insulation companies. Used the same products as the others, offered the same warranties and guaranties, all for a VERY reasonable price. (The big companies that just send out the fast talking sales guys were THOUSANDS more expensive than Accurate's quote). The first thing they did when they showed up to do the work was put down drop clothes anywhere they would be walking. They placed baffles in every run, they re positioned numerous old bats of insulation that were left in the attic, and used the same cellulose insulation (Applegate) that the big companies use. They added a long run of ridge venting, and ventilated the garage. And they placed visible depth gauges in the attic to show how thick the cellulose was. Great service and they delivered what they promised. Very happy with their service and product!

We bought our late 90s built home in 2012, and it only had a standard (at the time) 6-inches of…read morepink BATT insulation in the attic. So, our furnace has been working harder and more frequently to keep the house adequately heated for the past several winters. We finally got fed up of this lack of additional barrier between us and the cold outside. I was inspired by Consumers Energy offering a rebate check when insulation is upgraded by an approved vendor. I found AEE as the only Gold-star rated, licensed and insured installer in my area and approved by Consumers Energy. They earned their stars and stripes. I set up a free quote with the straight to the point and knowledgeable company owner, John. He explained his recommendations for adding about 11-12in.of fiberglass/wool blend blow-in insulation into the entire attic for a total of 17-18in., as well as having his field manager and caulk expert Mark seal all our windows and doors. He left me with a competitive quote and let me take long as I wanted to think on it and get other quotes. After a few quotes - my gut instinct gravitated me to AEE. I wanted to 'Art of the Deal' a bit with John to bring his quote closer to another competitor's. He was fair in working with me. We struck a deal. His 2-man insulation team came to our home around 10am and worked until about 4-5pm thoroughly insulating my attic. His field manager and caulking expert Mark did a great job sealing all the windows and doors for air leaks in a matter of 1-2 hours tops. They went above and beyond my expectations and were honest fellows. At one point when they realized they slightly undershot the amount of product needed for the job - they went and got more product to complete the job. John was a man of his word - he honored the contract without trying to work in the marginal unforeseen product and labor. They were thoughtful enough to blow some extra insulation into the space above our toddler's bedroom - which is definitely the problem area with our climate control. The workers used slip covers on their shoes and used towels to keep hoses from damaging walls. They vacuumed and cleared all waste after their work. Fast forward a week, and I will tell you that this was one of the best upgrades we have done for our home. The disparity in climate and cold drafts in different areas of our home is way better now. Upstairs is improved, the den stays toastier now, and the kitchen side of our house now holds heat better. A marked difference in the radiant heat comfort throughout the house. It is no placebo effect. The furnace is able to drive the temp up quicker, then the temp holds better and drops slower. So the furnace does not have to stay on as long of duration, and the interim between it firing up has increased. Savings on gas, and less wear and tear on the furnace too! Wish I had done this back when we bought the home. Better late than never. Highly recommend AEE. Just follow the simple steps I detailed above, get the work done, and get that rebate. You will have a top notch upgrade, at a great bottom line price. Two thumbs up!

I had an extensive energy audit performed, indoor air quality check, insulation installed, window caulking, rim joist seal/insulation, thermometer replacement, and various other home improvements. This was after the cost vs. benefit was explained to me with the supporting data. Once everything was completed, they walked me through the utility company rebate and tax credit process to ensure I received the full benefit of all work performed. Ultimately, I made money from the inspection and walked away with a house that was significantly more energy efficient with lower utility bills. It's a shame that it's so rare to find great companies with great people nowadays. AEE (John and Mark in particular) were super professional, friendly, polite, and extremely knowledgeable. It was an absolute pleasure working with them and I was able to learn quite a bit. These guys are not your typical salesmen, they are subject matter experts and come with only the highest of recommendation from me!
