I rarely leave negative reviews, but the lack of communication from Critter Control has been extremely disappointing. This week alone, I have rearranged my schedule and waited at home on three separate days with little to no proactive communication. Every update has required me to reach out first, and when I do, I often feel like I'm inconveniencing the staff simply by asking for information. Considering the significant investment I've made and the service expectations outlined during the sales process and in the agreement, I expected a much higher level of professionalism. Clear communication, confirmed appointment times, and follow through should be standard, not something the customer has to chase down. I do want to recognize Brandon because he has been great when it comes to the actual service. He has been professional, knowledgeable, and thorough while at my home. My frustration is not with him. It's with the overall communication and scheduling process. I simply wish the communication from the office was as proactive and reliable as the service Brandon provides. The work itself may ultimately resolve the issue, but the overall customer experience has been frustrating. Clients should not have to repeatedly follow up just to find out if a technician is coming. I reached out to Critter Control due to some concerns I had in my attic. Unfortunately, my experience ultimately came down to a lack of transparency and professionalism, especially when it came to the costs and work performed. I was told over the phone and on my invoice that my payment was the final payment, only to receive another invoice afterward. I also clearly declined the ongoing monthly treatment when it was offered, yet someone apparently came to my house afterward without any notice, and I was charged again. I've tried to address this directly by phone and email, but haven't been able to get a satisfactory response. I hired Critter Control Houston to inspect my elderly mother's home for suspected animal activity in the vents. After the inspection, they proposed a full sanitization and vent-blocking package -- totaling $1,700 -- citing signs of rodent activity. After paying and having the work begin, we were informed that there were no animals, no droppings, and no need for any sanitization. The material in the vents was coming from an exhaust fan that had caught fire -- something that was never identified or mentioned during the initial inspection, and only discovered when the crew arrived to do the work. To summarize: they missed an obvious burned exhaust fan during inspection, misdiagnosed it as animal activity, sold an unnecessary $1,700 biohazard sanitization package, and never caught their error until work had already been contracted. When I called the office to address this, I spoke with Jessica, who was not helpful. Rather than acknowledging the mistake, I was told the company feels they "went above and beyond." Charging $1,700 for unnecessary services based on a missed diagnosis is not going above and beyond. I chose this company specifically because of the positive reviews and because I needed someone trustworthy to care for a vulnerable family member. That trust was not honored. I would not recommend Critter Control Houston to anyone, and I urge others -- especially those hiring on behalf of elderly relatives -- to get a second opinion before agreeing to any services. read more

I called critter control because of scratching noises behind the fireplace wall and in the attic. CC did put bait traps in the attic and sealed a vent on the roof. Was told it was probably roof rats. They missed an appointment- never showed up. No apology. I took time off work for that appointment. At another appt, the technician left muddy footprints on my 3 month old carpet, They DID apologize. After I complained via phone, the next technician to come out DID wear booties over their shoes. I was told it was probably squirrels... I was texted an appt reminder for today so they could put a cage in the attic. Nobody showed up. No phone call. I CANNOT recommend this company. I have already paid $500, the animal was never caught, and I was told i needed to pay an ADDITIONAL $89 for monthly SERVICE. BEWARE!!!!! read more

I have spoken to employees by phone and given false information (that someone would follow up or a manager would reach out and resolve issues). Buyer beware and believe the negative reviews. My issue is that your company charged us the second and final payment before completing the job. There is still work that needs to be done, and in less than four months the bats on the back of the house have returned. In addition, your company has repeatedly scheduled appointments where no one showed up and no one even called to explain or reschedule. On another occasion, the wrong technician was sent without the proper ladder needed to access the back of the house, which is very high and has many electrical wires, creating a serious safety concern. I had a very negative experience with Critter Control. I had to call another company to come in and do the job all over again. The 2nd company found MANY glaring holes that CC MISSED. I paid CC $6,000 to seal all around the house to no avail. When CC declared they could find nowhere bats were getting in, we still had bats flying around the living room at night. I hired Critter Control to seal up my roof vents - for several thousand dollars. They claim they sealed up all but one vent - the one that actually was letting animals in. Apparently, they needed a taller ladder. I scheduled two follow up appointments: they never showed up to the first one, and the second one they promised to come back again to fix it. I have called repeatedly since and they just dont return calls. The phone number is to a call center and the local manager just never calls back. This company represents ineptitude and successful con work at its best. In working with this company, you will be expected to pay upfront for services that will never take place. After your payment is received, you will have to aggressively pursue the company to even have the actual service scheduled after it has been assessed. After that, the service appointments will be cancelled multiple times due to nonexistent rain on a sunny day hours before your appointment time or the technician will arrive 4 hours outside of the service window and actually do nothing aside from complain that he was unaware of the extent of the service to be rendered. Their tactics are incredibly evasive. All the while, you have already paid for a service that the company behaviorally makes clear that it never had any intention of rendering. Save yourself the inconvenience, irritation, time and money and seek services elsewhere, hopefully from a competent company. read more

Last fall we contracted with Critter Control to remove bats from our home. After spending over $6000 to seal and remove the bats we had to call them back 7 times because the bats kept getting into the house. Finally, after winter time the bats stopped coming in. However, this spring once again the bats got into our house and flew around in the living area. We called another company and discovered that Critter Control had not sealed the house properly. They were totally incompetent and left multiple areas were bats once again came back in. I will never again trust the competency of Critter Control to do an adequate job. read more

In 2022, we began hearing animals in our walls and attic, so we hired Critter Control to install wildlife barriers around our home. We also subscribed to their warranty service, expecting reliable follow-up on any future issues. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Within a week of the initial installation and patching, we heard the animals again. We called Critter Control, and after several days, they sent someone out who assured us there were no breaches in the barriers and set traps in the attic. This cycle of hearing animals, calling for help, and being told everything was fine continued for nearly a year. Eventually, Critter Control stopped returning our calls altogether. We recently had another company come out, and they informed us that the barriers had been installed incorrectly. Fixing this would cost an additional $3,500--on top of what we had already paid Critter Control. We are extremely disappointed in both the quality of work and the lack of responsiveness. They charged about $500 to come out and put a trap that you buy at Home depot for $75. They left it there and after 5 days came to pick it up. No raccoon was caught. No call was made with an update. When i spoke with them they guaranteed they will remove the raccoons but when i asked them for an update they got defensive and brought up the contract that stated they put a trap for 5 days if something is caught cool if not to bad type sh!$. I asked when did they remove the trap if there were any reports or updates and i got nothing. I don't normally like to write poor reviews because everyone does their best. There are already a lot of negative reviews for Critter Control, but I was hoping for better. I'll just share my experience if it might be useful for anyone who may have issues with a dead animal in their home. Unfortunately, at least at the time of this review, there aren't too many options out there. The people from CC who came out for the inspection were nice and mostly respectful. Just know that they the line of communication between the inspector and technicians may not be clear. Inspector said the dead animal was in the walls, and accessible which led me to believe they'll be able to get it out. Seems reasonable. When the technician came, he started to make holes in the wall. He soon realized that I had insulation in the walls...a fact that probably should've been communicated to him beforehand. I believe I should've been told beforehand too if it indicated that it would keep from finding the animal. The inspector was up in the attic and saw the insulation. I don't see why this obvious yet important note was not communicated. Unfortunately, the technician only had a probe he bought from Home Depot on the way over to my house with a bluetooth connection that kept failing as the probe got into the walls...The probe was flimsy material, obviously not made for holding its own weight to go into walls. Imagine if you tried to push headphone cables UP a wall. Gravity doesn't allow one to do this. When I asked him if he had notes from the inspector, he said he didn't. After making two holes, to his credit, he called the inspector who told him where he thought it was. Long story short, the technician ended up saying that the animal was not where the inspector initially said, but was at a completely inaccessible part of the home. We had no 100% confirmation of where it was either. So other than a couple holes in my walls, the guys sadly did nothing to help. They were nice enough though and I believe they did their best. My issue is they still charged the full amount. If you look up removing a dead animal from the walls online, it will generally note it costs about a couple hundred dollars. Expect to pay more than double that just for the one time removal attempt (not successful attempt - so be warned of the risk). Sadly, this could've been all avoided if it was clear that if they are not able to get the animal, I would still be charged the full amount. I might've still paid, but at least I would go into it eyes wide open. I don't think they should've done it all for free because it did take up their time, but as a customer, it doesn't feel right to be charged the same for a failed attempt vs a successful removal. The inspector on the phone before he arrived said sometimes they can't find it or can't get to to the dead animal. But when he said it was in an accessible wall, it was my assumption that they could get it out then. Sadly, that inspector was wrong on this front. If they found the animal, they would then spray the area and dispose of the animal. They did not do this, so at least half the work...so why charge the full amount? Feels very "scammy." I'm disappointed and will not be using this company for any exclusion services in the future. Maybe it's my fault for assuming I wouldn't have to pay the full amount. But ultimately, when you pay for something you normally expect something in return. This kind of practice feels like a warning shot to avoid doing any future business. I do wish them the best and hope they make some changes to their pricing structure when they are unable to deliver. Or at least be crystal clear before services are rendered. Maybe the inspectors should be the ones probing to give a clear and honest assessment of what to expect. At the very least, each technician should be equipped with better equipment. My recommendation if you have the same issue is to get a few inspectors out from different companies to take a look at the problem and maybe even a contractor. You can have CC come out too but just know what you're getting into beforehand. Then you can make an informed decision with knowing the full risks. read more

I have called 3 times so far this month, May 2024 to have a technician come out as our bats are back. HAVE NOT YET RECEIVED A CALL BACK.... When I canceled the monthly service contract due to the complete incompetence of Carlos (who never a actually went up in the attic to check for continued presence of rats) they took all the traps out of my attic and all the bait boxes out of my yard. What did I pay 2400 for? They quoted me a price of 10000 to clean the insulation in the attic, when I had it done we for 1250 by an honest company. Do not use under any circumstances. In addition they started taking auto pay out of my account unbeknownst to me without my permission. This review notes that I live in San Diego, and I actually live in Houston, TX. If I could give this company zero stars i would. I mistakenly went with Critter Control because in one customer service site and on their website there are a high number of positive reviews. I was absolutely WRONG to not look closer!!! Buyer beware is something that needs to be listed for this company. Allen came to my home to evaluate and once the contract was signed to remove critters in the attack, fire ants in the yard and mosquitos, he sent a crew to do the work. We had to consistently make corrections and have them redo their work. I sent several e-mails and made several phone calls to Allen since after their installation to rid critters and fire ants they did not solve the problem. I have 11 photos of fire ant nests still in my yard, 3 photos and two videos of traces of rodents still in my attack. I let Allen know of these issues and did not hear back from him, instead I got a call that the General Manager would come out and check things out. OK so he thinks as a home owner we are stupid. He said "well we killed the queen in your yard." I said wait.. OK I am a mechanical engineer and i do not know that much about critters and ants, but doesn't each ant mound have its own queen and we have mounds still all over. The conversation escalated to the level that I asked him to leave my home, he would not leave after several requests so I told him I will call the police. He left. The next day I sent photos to Allen and warned him that if we could not come to an agreement of their invoice for inferior work and work that resolved very little that I would contact my credit card company and dispute the charges. I made a phone call around noon to Critter Control to set up an evaluation. Keith came out the same day, I paid for the service, and Garrick called me that evening to set up exclusion and trapping for the next day. It has been 7 days since the exclusion and traps when up. The movement I hear has decreased. Omar has been over every other day this week to check the traps and is very informed about rats. There are still some up there, but after talking with Omar, I have hope. Edited 1/12/2022: I still hear movement in my attic. I emailed the rep who 1st came to my home for someone to come do another check and he said he would contact his manager. I'm not counting on it. Also, they only set 2 or 3 traps in my attic when they did the exclusion, which isn't enough. Edited 1/13/2022: The 3 stars are for Garrick because he does a good job. He returned to my home this morning and did a very intense inspection to see why I am still hearing noises. Garrick confirmed that there are still signs of rat activity and that all 4 attached townhomes would have to get exclusion done for this to have the potential of working. I recently had a bunch of squirrels in the attic and had paid another wildlife specialist which did not do what they were supposed to. I won't say the name of the company, but then decided to call Critter Control and had the inspector Roger come to my house and point all all the holes on my roof that needed to be sealed. The next day they came out and did a great job sealing all the holes around my house and just proofing it against squirrels. Garrick was the excluding guy that did most of the work sealing . When our landscaper said we had a bee problem after they were stung, we called in the experts at Critter Control. Roger and another tech arrived early for our appointment and went to examine the area after we provided them the information we had. Well---there was no bee nest found, nor any signs of bees in or around the utility boxes within the landscaped area. We are so grateful that Critter Control is upfront and honest. So I bought a new place back in March, and where my neighbors tree brushed up against the side of my house, you could see that there was some damage. But ok, I get it, I am buying an older home in an area full of big beautiful trees; this is something I can live with, repair, and move on. Then one morning, as I was sitting outside having some coffee, I started watching the squirrels run around the yard. One of them ran up my neighbor's tree, across the branch touching my house, and then VANISHED! I went over to see what happened, and when I did, he poked his head out from INSIDE the side of my house. He looked right at me, giggle, stuck out his little paw, gave me the finger, and went back inside. That was it. I went and talked to my neighbor who trimmed back his tree and then I made a call to Critter Control to evict my tenant in the attic. Critter Control came out the very next day. Ivan, the rep who came by, was incredibly polite, well dressed, articulate, and on time. He went to my attic, and immediately came right back down and said, "So, you don't really have a big squirrel problem. You do have a HUGE RAT PROBLEM." He went back up in the attic and returned with several photographs of dinosaur sized dead rats, rat tunnels through my insulation, and other sites I will never be able to unsee. He presented me with the best plan to not only get rid of the rats (and anything else), but to also ensure that they didn't come back again. At one point, Ivan even said, "you basically have a giant neon sign over your house that says, 'safe place for rats.'" One week later the Critter Control team (Crew Name Opossum lead by Preston) showed up right on time. They removed all of the insulation in my house (which...well...was old anyways), decontaminated the area, inspected for damage, blew in new insulation, blocked any holes where any critters could get in, and built in a one way exit incase my squirrel friend wanted to leave and not come back. They also set extra traps, and will be coming back over the next two weeks to make sure they didn't miss anything. I really cannot say enough good things about this company or their employees. They did a very professional job, cleaned up very well, and were incredibly easy to do business with. Hopefully I will never have to deal with them again, but if I ever have another critter problem, they will be the first people I call. read more

I did not get all of the services that I paid for and continued to have a problem with rats in the attic. A trapper was supposed to do three follow up checks on the rat traps, which he set in the attic, but I only got two. For one of the scheduled visits, he did not even show up and a call to the dispatcher did not help. On the second follow up visit he declared the attic free of rats and proceeded to seal up the holes where we thought they were making entry. That very night, and subsequent nights, there was activity in the attic, so the problem was not resolved. I tried to contact the company , but got no response. I left two voicemails, on two different days, for the wildlife consultant who sold me the job, but he did not return my calls. I sent a text to the trapper, but no response from him either. Finally, I called the company and asked for customer service. After explaining the situation, she said she would have a manager contact me. That was six days ago and still no call. It appears to me that Critter Control is very attentive to prospective customers, but as soon as the contract is signed and they have the customer's credit card information, they no longer care about the customer. Shame on them! I cannot recommend this company at all! I gave them two stars instead of just one because they did trap one rat and did do a good job of sealing up the holes. However if I had the third visit, which I paid for but did not receive, perhaps the remaining rat/rats would have been trapped. At the very least, I should have had a response to my calls and texts so we could have discussed the matter. read more

I wanted the company to treat my house and yard for roaches and spiders, as well as give me a free estimate on fixing the problem the house is having with some rats. The person that setup the appointments worked with me to book both services on the same day. Manuel showed up on time and worked quickly and efficiently to treat the house and yard for insects. Then Craig showed up on time as well. He took the time to explain the steps to solve the rat problem. Even though I had to decline the services at this time, he gave me some advice to help slow down the problem until I can save up the money to get professional help. Manuel and Craig did a great job of being upfront and honest with me. They explained what they were doing throughly and made me feel comfortable moving forward with the company. I have enrolled in the bimonthly insect treatment program, and will update this post in a year or so to let everyone know how the continued relationship is going. read more

Horrible Company- Steer Clear!!! A few years back we paid $5K for them to patch a hole where squirrels were getting into our attic, were satisfied, and then told we had a warranty guaranteed. Fast forward to now, where the hole they patched has reopened and has more squirrels. We called the number listed on Critter Control website and were told they will come out to look later this week to evaluate the new hole. They came, looked, and said that because there are new owners they will not honor the warranty and we needed to pay another $800 for it to be fixed. We said we have a warranty with the company- how is it that you have the same number and business, just a new name and owner, and can't fix it. We declined their business and they left without fixing. I believe this new owner/company is pretty sketchy and should be avoided. read more

I requested their service to include exclusion (making one's house "critter proof") and monthly service calls. On 7/30/2020 the came to my house and checked the snakes traps. Not even another week later, they came to replace bait blocks. Two visits, two separate charges, $81.19. Calls to explain why the need for two visits (6 days apart) for services that could have been done at the time of the initial visit have been ignored. I just found out that the company changed owners and now Critter Control will not honor my contract. What a scam. I asked the lady I talked to and apparently the owner switches pretty often. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! AVOID!!! This incompetent company leaves cats to die in traps that Critter Control set in Houston, abandoned and never came back, in 40 degree weather, with no food or shelter. My landlord hired them 1-26-22 to remove possums underneath my rental house, except they trapped a cat in the trap instead and never came back. EVER. All they ever did was set the trap and disappear forever. I called 1-27, 28, 29 and 31st to leave vms they NEVER responded to. I had already taken the cat to Montgomery County animal shelter on Day 1, so he could go into the barn cat program. While there, I filed 2 complaints: abandonment of an animal in a live trap and negligence for leaving it in there for more than 12 hrs, in 40 degree weather, etc. They also told me that Critter Control has regulatory agencies that oversee them and I was given the info to file formal complaints with these regulatory agencies....but it gets worse!!!! I called them again on 2-15-22 and got a live person finally! A rude, disrespectful (Causasian sounding) woman, who went off on me and called ME rude 1 minute into the convo! I asked her if she "plans on coming back to my address?" and she looked it up, and then......as she's talking.....she clearly has no idea what is going on, bc I ask her "you dont even know what Im asking about so do you want me to tell you?" And then she disrespected me by saying "Not if youre going to be rude about it!" I said "Im NOT being rude....but your company came, set a trap, caught a cat, abandoned him to suffer a cruel death in that trap, never came back or responded to my calls! So Ill just file more complaints instead" and she actually started yelling more, so I hung up. I let my property mgr know 1) THEY NEVER FINISHED THE JOB and 2) in my 24 years in rescue, with my own 501c3, and an LVT.....I have NEVER seen such unapologetic inhumane treatment of an animal, such incompetent, lazy, rude idiots who even refuse to answer the phone, call people back, do the job theyre hired for and cause no harm to animals. We signed a contract for life in the house, saying that they would do annual check ups on the attic. Well two years later, Pam, the receptionist said that the company changed owners and that she will contact the previous owners to come to my place. That never happened.
