Came back to get my dog - he was on a table in the back - could see him through a window and !!! pains me to even think of this even now - he was whining and loudly crying out in pain as a groomer took a big brush and lifted it a few inches up and then pulled it hard and fast through his hair. So so unnecessary. He rarely whines or yelps in pain. Maybe once or twice in his 8 years. I started crying/tearing up and told the receptionist I wanted my dog right now. I wish now I had rushed back and rescued him. The receptionist acted like nothing was amiss and finished with another customer. The owner Linda happened to come out of her office and noted my distress went back and got my dog. She went back and took him away from that weird cruel woman. At first Linda apologized for her groomer. When I said that this groomer of hers needs to be retrained or let go , Linda started blaming my docile dog who stood there for that torture. She had said she would be willing to do the trim herself and I could hold him. I said not today he needed a rest. I called back some time later and wanted to try it with me holding him for a trim. I was willing to pay another fee for the grooming due to the passage of time. She said she was so busy she did not know when she would ever have time to do take time to do this. My dog liked to be brushed - now he is afraid and I have to gently undo what they did to him even over a year later. Another over starred/yelped business gone bad! My lesson is stay always when they groom your dog - do not leave! read more

I was referred to the Critter Clipper by my sister. She had her Siamese groomed there a couple of months ago and she looks great. So I decided to bring my Maine Coon in. When I got there we heard some barking dogs, but that went under control fast by the staff. They knew they had to calm the dogs down for my cat to be groomed. We went into the room and the grooming job was done in less than 30 mins. She knew exactly what she was doing and we were out of there in a short period. My cat seem to love her new do, and I love it because it helps with the allergies. I definitely will bring her back again for another grooming job when her hair grows back out. read more

This place apparently books up weeks or even months in advance. Your best bet is probably to take the time and show up in person to make an appointment. I attempted a cat grooming appointment by means of their online portal and by leaving a voicemail. But it was only after leaving an irate review that someone got back to me a week later. The response was apologetic and even helpful in terms of referrals elsewhere, but ultimately, it came too late. Do not pass any time waiting to hear back from this place. If you can't visit them in person, then just call around elsewhere and hope that somebody picks up the phone. To be fair, this establishment is typical of pet groomers in that nobody actually picks up the phone. My wife and I ended up doing a botched home job, making me wish that this place had been able to accommodate us. read more

Now keep in mind I am a newbie to the dog grooming scene, so knowing what's a good price is not the basis of this review. This past holiday season, I decided Bessie could use a good bath to wash out all the everyday grit and grime her coat had been accumulating since we adopted her in November. Based on Critter Clipper's reviews, my boyfriend and I coordinated a drop off/pick up one two combo to get Bessie an appointment for a grooming session mid-week late afternoon. The results: Critter Clipper does a great job grooming my dog. Bessie's coat is fairly short, and so her visit only costs us $54, compared to some of the higher end prices I've noted for other lengths of fur on their website, but their quality of work is noticeable. Her coat was impressively soft and she smelled very clean, not to mention, she didn't seem stressed out or anxious to leave when I came to pick her up. Bonuses: Critter Clipper has squeezed me in last minute on a weekend for a grooming session without any of the nasty 'ugh-what-do-you-want' attitude and on a separate occasion, took her out for a walk when I was unable to come immediately after work to retrieve her. I like the work that they do, and it appears that Bessie has no complaints either. We shall be continuing our visits, in hopes that the fantastic service we've been receiving keeps on comin'. read more

I needed to find a place that would groom my Main Coon, and there are very few places that do that without putting them under. My cat is a youngster so I wasn't sure how she was going to respond to the grooming process. The place is a little tricky to find in the shopping center. The groomer came out in the waiting room with me and did a consultation on what look we were going for since it was my cat's first time there. I ended up going just for a shaved down look to make her look like a short haired kitty. I stayed the whole time to watch and see how my cat would respond. While I waited in the comfy gift shop area lots of repeat customers came in with their dogs and one with their cat to get it's nails trimmed. Overall the customers seemed happy with their service and the workers were all very polite and looked genuinely happy to see the dogs. Unfortunately my cat's hair cut (no wash) cost in the three figures because they need two people, one to hold one to cut. I was given a warning when I made the appointment so it was not a surprise. Luckily my cat takes good care of herself I just wanted her and my vacuum to have some relief in the summer. I would make another appointment for my kitty next year. read more

My shih tzus have been groomed by the caring and skilled staff at the Critter Clipper for 10 years, and I wouldn't take them anyplace else. Not only do they do a great job grooming my long-coated shih tuzs, they treat my dogs with the same kindness and care they would their own. My dogs are always excited to get there. When I pick them up they are not just beautifully groomed and smelling nice, but happy and tired. It's not just excellent grooming, but doggie playtime/day care, too. I am often asked where I take my dogs for grooming and always recommend the Critter Clipper without hesitation. read more

I took my Maine Coon cat here for the first time today and glad I did. Everything about it was a positive experience. I called them on Friday and they were able to take me in the next day. Everyone there is SUPER friendly, especially Rosemary who is the lady who grooms cats. The place is clean, and I love the fact that everything is out in the open, so you can see the grooming being done. I explained all my concerns to Rosemary, and when we picked our kitty up, she made sure everything was to our liking. He was slightly damp, which could have been sweat from being a little nervous, so she gladly took him back and dried and combed him some more. She also invited us back there so we can be with him. I thought that was cool :-) Ziggy smells and looks great. Will definitely go back! Took off a star for being a little pricey. read more

I love Linda and her staff (especially Rosemary!). They took great care of my old dog for 6 or 7 years before he died and they've been wonderful with my new dog for the past 3 years. They're kind, caring, and do a great job. read more

We took our little red toy poodle there a few times! The last time we took our dog there, when we picked her up! She was throwing up and her eyes were irritated. So I called to find out if anything happened there, we weren't accusing anyone for anything but as a concerned parents we got worried, I got a call from the owner leaving a message that we didn't feed her and nothing happened, again we were just checking in, then the owner calls my wife and tells her that the lady who's been giving our dog a cut is not comfortable taking our little princess and she was gonna call us and let us know who's gonna take her, they never got back to us and we called three times and they never answered and never got back to us. If you don't want our business, it's fine just tell us. Terrible customer service and completely childish and unprofessional approach! I wouldn't recommend them to anyone! read more

Critter Clipper is a wonderful pet grooming establishment. Linda Mallory, the owner, is a very professional groomer and an extremely kind-hearted human being. All of the staff that are employed at Critter Clipper are very professional and caring animal lovers who strive to do quality work on each and every pet. I have used Linda's grooming services for more than 12 years for my prior dog, Maude, and now my current dog, Chloe. The attached picture is of Chloe and as you can see she is a mix of terrier/bearded collie/sheepdog and has a full wavy coat. Chloe always looks forward to her bath with Kevin and her clipping with Linda. Chloe gets her grooming done about every 3-4 months due to her long and furry coat. Linda is an expert groomer who knows exactly where to cut/trim to give each pet the best look for their personality and their comfort. Natural products are available to be used on the pets for those of us who do not like synthetic or chemical-type products. When I first moved to this area 12 years ago, I found Linda at her previous location in Mountain View and was so pleased with her work and her willingness not to cage my pet, since Maude was a rescue dog and not a fan of being caged. The same is true at her new location on Grant Road, where my current dog, Chloe, another rescue dog from a situation of neglect, is able to be cage-free during the grooming process. As a pet owner for 40+ years and a professional petcare provider, I highly recommend Critter Clipper for your pet's grooming needs. Linda Mallory and her staff at Critter Clipper are pet owners themselves and sensitive to the needs of each pet and their pet owners. Every pet is tenderly cared for while in their facility. Dogs are walked while waiting for grooming and/or after the grooming, treats and water are given to each pet as well as the adorable accessories Critter Clipper provides for each pet. Critter Clipper is full of love and decorated beautifully which reflects an environment that this business is about providing optimum grooming care to each and every pet . Linda and staff genuinely listen to the needs of the pet owner and will work together with you to provide the best grooming care for your pet. Thank you Linda and staff for all of the years of outstanding service you have given to the pet community. Chloe and I appreciate your dedication of spirit, the pride you take in your work each day and the personal integrity you maintain in your professional grooming service. read more

We are so grateful for the outstanding service at Critter Clippers! We took our maltipoo puppy to Petco for his very first haircut at 6 months of age today. Although the staff was very nice, they lacked the experience to groom our puppy. They called to tell us that they had groomed his entire body but could not do anything with his head because he was too stressed and uncooperative. We got him back with his body trimmed to a near shave (despite our request to leave him fluffy) with patchy lumps all over and his head still covered with long fur. He looked like a bobble head, as the kids pointed out. It was very sad. Our daughter was in near tears, as she was looking forward to showing her puppy to her friends at her birthday tomorrow! I called Critter Clippers just before their closing. They were incredibly nice and absolute life savers! They stayed after their closing hour to help. They were fantastic with handling our puppy. They groomed his head and face beautifully and saved the day! Clearly in the same day that petco couldn't handle our puppy, the staff here groomed him with ease. Experience really matters! We do appreciate Petco being honest with what they could handle. However, we will definitely be going to Critter Clippers for all future haircuts. Thank you to the staff for offering time after hours and for the professional care! read more

I've been taking my dog here for quite some time and was generally pleased with them. I used to go to a very nice groomer in San Francisco that was recommended to me by a friend. They were very well priced and did a wonderful job. But I needed a groomer that was close by and read about Critter Clippers on Yelp. Initially CC did a very thorough groom; brush, shampoo and blow dry, ears, anal gland, nails, and cut. I like to keep my dog's hair on the long side so clipping has always been minimal. I bring him in on a regular basis since he is a therapy dog and I always brush him very well before I go so there are little or no mats present. This service costs $105.00. Since we are going into the warm months I asked for a Summer cut, which the groomer talked me out of. After listening to her rational I agreed that, for his coat, a Summer cut was a bad idea. So I asked that they do the same cut he usually gets, just shorter. I got a call two hours later from the owner saying that they would be charging me $145.00 for today's service because it would take so much longer. I objected, saying I wasn't asking for anything special. I wanted the same cut just a bit more off. When I get my haircut, if I want the same cut but shorter...it's the same price. My dog is super cooperative and not a problem which the owner agreed that he is and ,in fact, she said she wished all the dogs that they groomed we're as cooperative as him. I ended the conversation saying I wasn't going to spend $145.00 for the same service. I got a call about an hour later saying he was finished. My husband picked him up and the owner said that since we are such good customers she would only charge us $125.00. I must say the cut was not good. One side is shorter than the other and it's poorly done, very choppy. Long story short, I'm very saddened and offended by the whole experience and I won't be returning to Critter Clippers any more. read more

I drive all the way from redwood city to groom my little furry baby here. It's worth it!!! They've been consistent with getting her cut nice and even, provide awesome customer service and Linda is the sweetest. I'm super impressed that they can get my pom mix's hair short and even.. I've been to other places and her cut has always been on the choppy side. I know how hard it can be. Thanks for being fantastic! read more

Amy is amazing! I've been taking my cat there for almost two years. Every single time Amy's work was impeccable. No complaints about the quality. A bit pricey though. However, when i tried to get my cat to another place where i was promised a half of the price it was soooooo awful. I can't wait till his hair grow enough to get him to Amy and fix the haircut. read more

Linda at Critter Clippers is the absolute best. She is one of the only Certified Master Groomers in the US and runs the best grooming salon that I know of. Daniel has groomed my dog every time, so this review is really more a reflection on him than the entire establishment, as I have no practical experience with any of the other groomers there. But Daniel has been the best groomer I've ever used. He is always on time, professional, does a really great job, and seems to be a really great guy. I hate to sound like a shill for him (he's not a personal friend), but I really have nothing but good things to say about him. To the extent that I've interacted with the rest of the staff, they have been very helpful and accommodating, as well. read more

Linda and staff, you guys are the best!! We have a couple of dogs who don't like getting groomed or getting their nails done and Linda did an amazing job with both of them. After many visits to various groomers, Linda was the only one who was able to get our dog's nails trimmed. She also did an amazing job grooming our Lhasa apso, who hasn't been to a groomer in over a year because she was too scared. However, Linda was super gentle and friendly and our dog came back in a great mood after! read more

I didn't actually come here to use the pet grooming services but I just wanted to give a huge shout out to the amazing staff here. I lost my work badge in the parking lot near this shop after going to the violin shop next door. Daniel found it, and for the next few days he and Linda tried every means they could think of to try to find and reach me -- calling my work, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc. Eventually they saw violin listed under one of my interests on LinkedIn and thought of checking with the violin shop next door. One of the employees next door then recognized me on a yelp review I just added for them and reached me through there. Thanks to the wonderful staff at critter clipper and especially Daniel, who even wanted to drive the badge all the way up to my work place, for reuniting me with my badge! read more

Daniel is the best. We take our messy messy St. Bernard here and he comes back looking like a new dog, in fact a show dog even. Always a treat to drop off the pups - they take such great care of them. read more

I highly recommend! After a long search since we moved back to area we found Critter Clipper. We are happy with Juliya who grooms our two Coton De Tulears. She is knowledgeable, calm, and loves our dogs. Linda, the owner is very professional and cares for our canine kids too. The salon is very clean, bright and has a calming, peaceful atmosphere. Linda maintains her appointments well. One of our dogs who is not fond of grooming with other groomers we have used, when we brought her in today, she went prancing into the grooming area happy to be there. I agree with the other reviews that it is pricey compared to other groomers but it's worth our peace of mind to know that our dogs are handled properly during the 4 hours that they are there. When we pick up our dogs they do not look stressed. And we notice the same thing with the other dog clients going to Critter Clipper. read more

My dogs are in love with Larissa at Critter Clipper and all the other people that treat dogs and cats with such loving care. It is too funny to watch the dogs arrive in the morning -- they are all excited to be greeted and they know where to go themselves once the are on "the other side." And my dogs always look beautiful with a cut that suits the breed and my needs. I drop off happy dogs and pick up happy dogs that look oh-so pretty! I just got my two yorkies back from Critter Clippers and I couldn't be happier! They did an amazing job with both of them and the price was totally reasonable! I brought them here after the little girl was butchered at the Petsmart groomer. They rubbed her raw in two spots and then didn't cut her head because she was biting and still charged me full price. I would bite too if someone was hurting me! Critter Clippers had no problems with her at all. Not a single bite! Both dogs are happy as can be! This will the groomer I go to and recommend as long as I live in the Penninsula! read more

We have taken our dogs to Linda and her staff for years. They are so kind, especially to older dogs. The dogs always look GORGEOUS when we leave and also act happy, as if they had a good time. They all are experts at handling dogs and cats too I have seen. Highly recommend them. read more

I took my dogs there in January 2009 and I was very pleased. They are expensive and it's very difficult to get an appointment but definately worth the wait and the price. I've been to several places in Mountain View including Pet Smart, PetCo, and Heidi's. These places have disappointed me on more than one occasion. PetSmart hires amateur groomers who are just plain mean and rude. PetCo always delivers my pets with either a cut or a rash and Heidi's was just plain weird. After a full day at CritterClipper's, my dogs came out looking fabulous. The haircut was perfect. Their nails were cut perfectly and they even expressed the anal glands which most other places don't do. More importantly, I was pretty happy with the people there. My dogs were happy too. Yes, there are cheaper places but I've learned my lesson. Never again will I take my places to box stores for grooming. I will pay the extra cost for the peace of mind. Also, for those that can't afford the high cost on a regular basis, I recommend Petfood Express self-wash on a bi-weekly basis ($15) and CC once every few months. This seems to work well for me. read more

Very nice people, they do good work, I have 2 very happy & good-looking dogs - what more can one ask for? Not sure why the mean-spirited comments from a couple other Yelpers? I've tried several local pet grooming places and this pet grooming business is excellent. Yes, it's expensive, but I felt they great delivered value for the cost. I especially appreciated that the dogs are in kennels you can see from the front desk - rather than hidden in a back room where you can't see them. The animals can watch what is going on in the grooming room while they wait their turns, and they all seemed very content - even the few kitty cats I see once in a while. read more

I took my dog to Critter Clipper today and couldn't have been happier. (I had tried to get him in at The Barking Lot, but since they never returned my calls, I took him to Critter Clipper). I called this past Saturday to see if I could make an appointment for my dog, and I really figured it would be after the holidays before they would be able to get him him. They put him on the waiting list in case they had any cancellations, but they called me right back and said they just had a cancellation and could get me in on Tuesday (today). His appointment was for 3:00 and he was ready for pick up by 6:00. The staff at Critter Clipper were all incredibly nice. The groomer did an excellent job with him and I was very pleased with how he looked. He didn't seem traumatized or anything. I felt like the charge to have him groomed there was reasonable. I highly recommend Critter Clipper! read more

We took the dog to this "spa" - decent looking and good location. The dog went in all cute and came out looking like an ugly rat - they were so lazy to use the scissors and just used clipper 0. And in the name of cleaning the anal glands they irritated it so bad, the dog which never scooted has started scooting and is on meds now. Put simply waste of a good 100 bucks - take it elsewhere! read more
