Seeing two-star reviews is just deplorable. Have you no taste or nostalgia for good diner food? It's practically unAmerican. Cristy's is my mainstay, and the first place I beelined toward after returning home from a long stint in Paris, France. Their sausage pancakes are like nothing I've ever had, the butter and sugar glaze on top creating a sweet frosting to counterbalance the salty sausage chunks fried into the crisp, fluffy pancakes. I order three, eat one, and parcel out the remaining two over dinner and the next morning's breakfast so the syrup has a chance to soak in. Absolutely amazing, and I've spent enough afternoons carting them over state lines back to college in Amherst to attest to that fact. Their crunchy French toast is not to be ignored- thick, squishy slices almost like creme brulee with a sweet granola crust, and their Philly cheese steak wrap is perfect if you're craving savory. But I stick with the pancakes in most cases. Also, bottomless coffee, hey-o! read more

I'm here with the duke of Christys, Randall Miller, he's showing me the ropes. Get the pancakes

I cannot believe that we just discovered Cristy's after 26 years of visits to the area. On day 1 I ordered poached eggs with corned beef hash and a pom-mosa. I knew I was in love when they brought over extra champagne to go with our pomegranate juice. My mother's omelette was the size of her forearm and perfectly filled. On day 2, we had to follow our eyes from the day before: we went for the pancakes. I cannot recommend the berry crunch any higher, but the coconut macadamia nut and the raspberry with dark chocolate were both also winners. The other food is absolutely delicious, but seriously get the pancakes. read more

If you're looking for a top notch breakfast, Cristy's will not disappoint. While I could never steer anyone away from their pancakes (which have yet to be equalled in all my pancake eating experiences), I'm now torn everytime I go in as I think the California Benedict might be my favorite item on the menu. If you're going with someone else who doesn't mind sharing it works to get a pancake or two along with the California Benedict and split everything--that at least has been my strategy and it has worked out pretty well so far. read more

Best breakfast at an inexpensive price I have found on the shoreline. God was plentiful and fresh. Omelets are huge, home fries are boiled and pan fried good but lack flavor. French toast is great. All meats are delicious. Will absolutely be back. Cozy atmosphere w a warm fire place. Lattes are fabulous!! read more

Had breakfast/ brunch on Sunday around 12. Very busy but line moved fast. Wide selection of food-there are multiple menus- breakfast, lunch, extras and one just for pancakes. Food very good. Huge portions. Service somewhat slow but worth the wait. Price is reasonable. Huge pancake was 5.95. Would definitely go back. Parking lot Takes cash and credit. No reservations read more

Delicious food at a great price. I've never had a bad experience and go often. I'm even throwing my birthday party here this year and the pancakes are so good I will be having a short stack of the peach pancakes instead of a birthday cake. We are often served by Sara who just couldn't be nicer or more adorable. Menu favorites are their burgers, roast beef club, and any omelette or pancake. read more

Cristy's used to be a Westbrook institution. It wasn't the most aesthetically pleasing joint - the dark paneled walls, maroon curtains, and abundance of Yankees memorabilia on the walls. However, it wasn't the decor that drove in customers - it was the familiar faces (not only of the wait staff, but of the customers), and the delicious, inexpensive and unpretentious food. Now, with the change in ownership and the whitewashed walls, the outdoor bistro seating, and gingham curtains seem to be catering to the touristy summer population, not the faithful locals. The food has suffered as a result. They've done away with the rough around the edges charm of the place, and tried to make it blend with every other generic, cutesy luncheonette on the shoreline. It's a true shame. read more

I came here with my boyfriend in the morning before we were about to embark on a drive. This place pretty much blended in with every other ok breakfast place I have been. The atmosphere was alright, they had an awkward little espresso counter that I couldn't really figure out what it was doing there because never once was the machine used, a variety of bikes, canoes, and other modes of personal transport hanging from the walls as decoration, and a scattering of tables and booths through the two dining areas that seemed more haphazard than efficient. We were seated right away and I noticed how disheveled everyone seemed. There was a lot of running around but not much getting done, and this is from someone who has spent a lot of his life working in cafes and restaurants. The whole time I felt pressured to order, with the waitress asking multiple times within the first 3 minutes of our arrival if we were ready, and then when I needed something like more coffee or a glass of water, I felt completely ignored. I ordered a tomato, mozzarella, and onion omelet and added spinach to it as well for some color. It came with home fries. While everything was good and hot, it wasn't great. There was no seasoning on ANYTHING, which really ruins the quality of a otherwise decently prepared meal. My omelet was so bland I was so disinterested in it I didn't finish. While the home fries had some nice color to them, they tasted like potatoes that had been sauteed and were void of any flavoring. My boyfriend got an egg sandwich on a bagel which looked good, but, he also reported a lack of flavor. This is your typical breakfast place that pumps out the classics and doesn't really try anything too interesting or exciting. read more

We live down the street and love that we can walk to this ALWAYS packed breakfast spot. Even with the recent expansion we have waited in line for their crispy and scrumptious pancakes and their lightly layered omelets. Ive never tasted anything like them! We go once a month perhaps and are not familiar with the friendly staff as some others are, but it's the food that drives us there... And the price is pretty attractive too. It's a surefire hit with our summer guests who are expecting cheap diner fare and are blown away by the tasty pancakes. The most difficult thing about the pancakes is knowing to order just ONE. If you order two, you won't be able to finish... but you'll remember next time!!! read more

PANCAKES ONLY PLEASE..............WOW! These folks have the lightest fluffiest pancakes you can possibly imagine. One of the best I have ever had. Good assortment of different kinds also. Stay away from the sausage and bacon if after 9 am because they are precooked and are sitting around all morning long bathing in old grease. Even though the corned beef hash is pretty good, it also suffers from the same ailments. read more

Delicious filling breakfast. We went on a Monday summer morning. Service and food was fast and friendly. Either way I would recommend waiting for a table and waiting for food, it was that good. I wish we lived closer! Banana crunch pancakes, western omelette, best corner beef hash ever! read more

This wonderful little restaurant has really gone way downhill!!!! Soooo disappointed with breakfast this morning. My wife had been telling me about the great pancakes at Cristy's, so today I finally got to try them. I have to admit that the breakfasts are pretty good here. You get your own pot of coffee and the prices are reasonable. There are a ton of choices for pancakes, and they are very tasty. The pancakes come fully dusted with powdered sugar and are a treat. My only complaint seems to be the same one that others have mentioned. I didn't feel really welcomed here. We had Blondie for our waitress, and she seemed content to stand behind the counter and b*llsh*t with the regulars. I was surprised that she never came by to ask if everything was OK with the food. If the service was a bit better, Cristy's would deserve a 5 since the food is really good, the portions are large, and the price is right. read more

Pancakes were DELICIOUS and service was great! They know the true meaning of BREAKFAST ... Oh and the coffee was good too. A tip on how to improve pancake 'perfection', try to avoid concentrating all the toppings, aka the good stuff, in the center of the pancake. But overall, a valiant effort. Bravo. read more

Foods ok but service is slow and I've been in quieter bowling alleys. Maybe it's better after the summer season.

We were here over Thanksgiving weekend.. and wanted to go on Friday for breakfast. Being it was a busy weekend-we couldn't get in at 10:30. There was a big line. We expected that-but just be prepared if you want to try this gem. So we went the next day and were able to get in, and only waited 5 minutes. The good news is; the tables do turn over quickly ( as we were later told) and depending on time. It was well worth it! The food here is amazing and the coffee is too! We had pancakes, eggs benedict, and an omelette. Each dish was deliciously fresh and hot. Best breakfast ever. You must go here when visiting Westbrook. 5 stars!!! read more

Excellent. Pancakes were delicious and portions are huge. Headed home to Jersey and found by accident. Will definitely be back.

The one thing I always have, is the Tomato, Spinach, Bacon and cheese Omeltte... It is outstanding !!!!!! ( bring your appetite , and I'm a big eater ) Every time I have it, I feel like I'm on that TV show about the 'best you've ever had'.. It has been dressed up over the years. Some of the waitresses are better than others, but let's face it... it is a Diner, not a French Bistro. A very good local place that IMO one of the better ones... On this snowy morning, my son & I did our run to Christy's and as usual, came away full and happy. The new decorating is interesting.. Check out the 1950's Schwinn on the wall..... I just want to try riding it :-) read more

I've tried and tried to like this place, because frankly, there aren't many places to go out around here, but despite five attempts, I vote fail. Mediocre breakfast, overly sweet baked goods, steep prices (for what it is... Eggs and such). I don't get it. Are they paying for so much advertising in the local paper that they always win the readers poll? read more

Have been to Cristy's countless times over the years, and am definitely a fan. It's a small little dinerette, and gets quickly crowded on weekend mornings. But if you get there early and order early, you'll have a lovely breakfast by the shore at this Westbrook morning staple. Breakfast, in my opinion, is where Cristy's really shines. They have a very large selection of pancakes, omlettes, waffles, french toast, and breakfast platters that will leave you horribly undecided about what selection to make! Seriously, if you have a pancake lover in the family, they will love love LOVE Cristy's. The pancakes are fluffy and plentiful, and let's face it, they're the main reason I flock to Cristy's. So many varieties, there's practically a selection for each season! Portions are quite generous, and unless you Hoover your food, you will likely be taking home a doggy bag. Lunch items can be hit or miss. I've had many very pleasant lunches there, and a handful of not-too-terrific lunches. That said, I've never had a BAD experience at Cristy's, breakfast or lunch. I can see how the service can be spotty and haphazard sometimes, because it is a very casual and VERY busy place, but I've never seen the waitstaff be rude or unfriendly. All-in-all, Cristy's is a dependable breakfast favorite in Westbrook, serving up stacks of fluffy pancakes and other delicious breakfast fare. If you're in the area, and looking for a place to fill your table with homey breakfast favorites, check out Cristy's! read more

My first Yelp review. I first came across Cristy's about a month ago while driving on Boston Post Road in search of local breakfast spot in Old Saybrook. Yesterday, I returned again to savor their incredible Coconut Pineapple Macadamia Nut pancakes, one among forty-plus indulgent pancake creations. To be honest, pancakes are not the usual breakfast fare I seek at diners; I find most pancakes to be heavy, doughy, and just excessive in portion size. That said, I usually leave a plate of pancakes half finished, if that. Not so with Cristy's. My Coconut Pineapple Macadamia Nut pancakes were light and fluffy; instead of leaving a cakey fullness in my mouth, the generous amount of pineapple, coconut, and macadamia nuts were welcome textures and bursts flavors. The pancakes were sweet enough on their own to eat without syrup (a pat of melting butter was already added on top). However, should you decide to add maple syrup, please forego the readily available Aunt Jemima "maple flavored" corn syrup and pay an extra $1.50 for a small tub of real maple syrup. It's worth it! Did I finish all my pancakes? You betcha! In addition to my pancakes, I ordered a side of bacon and requested them to be "extra crispy". Not sure why requesting bacon to be "extra crispy" is such challenge for many diners, but Cristy's did my bacon just right: not fatty, greasy curled slivers, but crispy flat slats of porky crunchiness. While my breakfast was certainly enjoyable, the service was wanting. Upon entering, I wasn't greeted even though it was quite obvious that I made eye-contact with the serving staff on hand. It was opening seating, so I darted to the nearest table I can find. No bother, but saying "welcome" or something similar would have made me feel, well, more welcome. When I ordered coffee, I assumed the waitress would pour me a cup at my table, but instead she left a pot of coffee on my table and walked away. I stared at the pot for a moment thinking she would eventually come by and pour me a cup. That didn't happen. Oh well. Overall, my experience at Cristy's was good, but just a little more attention to service would make good to great. Additional things I noted: Table upon arrival was clean: Yes Wait time to order: 5 min Wait time of order arrival: 12 min Was the order correct? Yes Asked during my meal how everything was: Yes Prior to my bill, was I asked if I wanted anything else? Yes Wait time to receive check: Immediate Wait time to pick up check: 6 min Cost of Meal ========== 1 coffee = $1.65 1 order of Coconut Pineapple Macadamia Nut pancakes = $3.25 1 side order of bacon = $2.00 1 side order of real maple syrup = $1.50 ========== Net = $8.40 Tax = $0.53 ========== Total = $8.93 Tip = $1.00 + change read more

Awesellent - a cross between awesome and excellent. All the makings of a great diner (atmosphere, waitress who's been here forever, but still has a smile for a newbie) with the food chops to match. I had the hash Benedict. I'm a sucker for corned beef hash, and am almost always disappointed. Not here! Crispy, great meat, well prepared. The Benedict construct totally worked - wonderful sauce, topped with some paprika and scallions that made it feel like a higher-end place. And it stood up to a whallop of Tabasco sauce, which IMHO all hash should have. Why only 4 stars? The coffee, pure and simple. I was told it was brewing when I sat down, but what I got tasted like that bad old stuff that had simmered for too long in the pot in the break room of a cheap lawyers office. Despite this problem, I will definitely be back. Highly recommend. read more

The breakfast was phenomenal, but it only gets 3 stars because their bathroom was DISGUSTING!! It smelled of piss, the walls clearly haven't been cleaned in years and the toilet also appeared to never have been scrubbed. It was so gross. It made me think the worst of the kitchen. read more

Always worth the trip. Whether you come for breakfast or home cooked comfort food, they never disappoint. Make sure you try the pot roast at least once!!! You will come back for more. read more

If you like breakfast, Don't look at anything except the pancakes because that is their thing. Since they sell them individually, get one of two flavor for variety and you probably won't eat it all. Our server was competent but not that friendly but she appeared to not be the norm -others were more friendly! Home fries were bland -wouldn't get them again. read more

I love going to this place today I came in ordered my original steak and cheese wrap and the cook did a terrible job he skimped out on the meat at first he made it on a roll giving the waitress a hard time. I settled with it because it's not the servers problem it's whoever manages the cook in the back. Terrible job after all the money spent at this establishment and everyone coming here all the time it's sad to have to leave the review due to a cooks poor attitude and not doing his job properly. read more

3.5 stars A bit of a wait for Sunday breakfast at 9am for 5 of us. The wait line was confusing because they didn't have the sign turned around so that you could read the part that said "stand behind these signs and form a line if no table is available." It was in the middle of the restaurant so you just kind of walk in confused. It would be nice if they put a sign in the front too to make visitors feel more in the loop. Food was good. Not spectacular but pretty good. There were a lot of pancake options and a lot of coffee syrup options. Home fries were great and fruit cup was excellent-strawberries, blueberries, and bananas and none had been previously frozen. Chocolate chip pancakes were nice-decently fluffy. Not bad! I'd try returning with maybe just the two of us and our toddler but trying to meet up with another couple just made the wait too long. They thought they'd have to put tables together but ultimately I said a booth would be fine. read more

The place was packed, but the wait was only about 5 minutes. The menu was pretty large, tons of breakfast food and a decent menu for those who like an early lunch. I had pancakes and bacon. The pancakes were very good and covered the plate. Not impressed with the value of the bacon. 3 smallish pieces were $3.75. The service was very good, (23% cash tip) the food good but not much value for your money.5 stars for the service, 4 for the taste of the food and 3 for the value. Overall 4 stars. read more

Sat at the bar. First impressions are best from this seat. Simply put, Dirty. Filth all over light fixtures, walls , T.V. , broken counter etc. Apparently, slinging food out of a small shabby window with a couple heat lamps is the most important aspect of ownership here. Waitstaff were so overjoyed (NOT) to be working there. Taking cash then touching someone's bacon to fix it on the plate, not acceptable! My blueberry pancake was ok made with canned or frozen blueberries which were concentrated in clumps throughout it. Basic breakfast I guess. I WOULD NOT GO GO BACK. FOR TWO EGGS OVER AND A SINGLE BLUEBERRY PANCAKE IT TOOK AT LEAST 20+ MINUTES. WOW-and not in a good way!! #knowyourfoodreviews read more

Have been going to Cristy's for sometime now for breakfast or a just a cup of coffee. No doubt Cristy's is a destination for both locals and tourists alike. Their service leaves something to be desired as the restaurant has too few wait staff to handle the number of patrons it can seat. Food, at times, is served cold during the busy morning rush. Cristy's would do well to hire additional wait staff to deliver the great meals cooked up by the kitchen staff. read more

This establishment is a 4.5 breakfast affair. We've been here twice now when we come to town to visit pops. I've had a couple of different omelettes here and both were quite good. The PASTRAMI & SWISS OMELETTE was nice tasting and not one of "The Usual Suspects" you find for omelette options. The ITALIAN SAUSAGE/ROASTED RED PEPPERS/FETA OMELETTE was even better. They have so many omelette options you'll likely never see on another menu. The COCONUT PANCAKE was chock full of shredded coconut. I think the syrup was KRAFT or something similar. Pure Vermont Maple Syrup would up the ante on this. The COFFEE is above average in quality for diner java. The service is good and we'll definitely be back. read more
