The bo lo bao was warm and fluffy, which worked surprisingly well with the cold ice cream - such a cool and interesting combo. It's a cute ice cream shop with flavors that are not as commonly found (black sesame, lavender, Thai tea) They also have savory options. I haven't tried them yet but I will be back to. This is a nice, small little shop tucked in the back of this plaza. Service was great - you can try samples of their ice cream and the worker was so nice and offered samples of their cookies as well. Not going to lie, I was definitely skeptical about the bolo and ice cream combination, but it actually works pretty well. The texture combination reminds me more of the store bought ice cream sandwiches that's rectangular and has that almost cake like cookie. The bun provides a similar texture where it's soft but still able to hold it's shape. Then you also get the crunch from the bolo top. Plus they warm the bun up before they serve it, so the warm and cold combo is another bonus. I do like how they prep the bolo like an uncrustable sandwich where the entire bun is sealed so no ice cream leaks out. While the bolo combination is good, the ice cream is pretty average. Nothing really stood out as amazing. In addition, we came in on a weekday night and the place was just dead and wasn't particularly clean nor well stocked (i.e., napkins and water were both out). That being said, I live nearby, so this is an easy option to go to if you want an ice cream treat. read more

Especially with how inflation has been the last several years, this is one of the most affordable places to get dessert and tea. They also offer snacks such as French fries or chicken tenders as well. They offer pint size ice cream if you'd like to buy a pint to take home. If you're into floral flavored ice cream, I opt out for the Jasmine ice cream. Service has always been great and the gentleman that takes my orders is patient. Ambiance is quiet and nice. Go-to spot for ice cream in El Monte! We've been here a couple times now and have enjoyed the ice cream each time. It's very quiet upon entering, but the worker (or owner?) comes out ready to serve. He was very patient when we were deciding on the flavors we wanted to try and sometimes had to go to the back for the flavors that weren't readily available in the front. We've tried a good amount of flavors and so far the Nutella Oreos and cream and Thai tea stuck the landing for me. My partner got the blue cookie dough which he enjoyed but after I tried the Nutella Oreo, the blue cookie dough was a lot more subtle. I like how creamy the ice cream is & how the flavors is pretty well-balanced with the waffle cone. The waffle cone texture and break-ability is good with the ice cream where it doesn't feel like you're breaking your teeth each bite. And it's not too sugar either! Well-balanced in both flavors and textures. Because of how calm the store is, you can definitely do some work here or go outside and enjoy the ice cream while people watching on their patio seating. It's very quiet in the store, where I feel like I need to keep my indoor voice low. P.s. it is a little hidden, to the side of the bowling alley. The decor of the inside is quaint and cute, but not large enough to hang out in large groups. So best to take your order and walk around the plaza if your group is more than six people. Came across this place because the nail place I go to is a couple of suites over and decided to try. I placed my order via DoorDash to avoid the waiting time as it was really hot out the day I ordered. I got their garlic parmesan fries and Hokkaido milk tea with rainbow jelly. Their garlic Parmesan fries was sooo yummy! The fries came with ranch (you can pick your dipping sauce) as well as their lemon aioli dip-- both very tasty dipping sauces. Definitely complimented the fries that much more. I liked their Hokkaido milk tea. It was sweet and creamy but I don't think the rainbow jelly paired well with it (I chose rainbow jelly as my topping so that was my fault lol). I originally wanted to get it with boba but the DoorDash app only allowed me to select rainbow jelly, or lychee jelly as a topping. When I came in to pick up my order, I did see boba as one of their topping selection for an extra charge. I guess I'd need to order in person next time to try it with boba. Really great place. They don't seem to ever be busy so definitely hoping it'd pick up soon. Will for sure be coming back. read more

I had a single scoop of Cookie Monster and it comes with two toppings for $3.25, that's like the cheapest single scoop I've had now a days. Also got to try a bo lo bao which comes with a single scoop of ice cream (splittable with two different flavors) and two toppings. The Bo lo bao is something that is a must try, it's super unique and I don't know if other places have it. Kind of like dimsum with ice cream. LOCATION - The location itself is kind of hidden. It's in a plaza on Lower Azusa directly across from In-N-Out. When you enter the parking lot, go towards the right corner. There's plenty of parking but just look for it around the corner. FOOD - Came in for a quick dessert and I ordered the Crispy Bun with a half & half one scoop. I got the Horchata and Cookie Monster flavor. The ice cream was really good and it didn't melt too quickly. The bun was amazing! Crispy, warm, fluffy, and it wasn't sticky. Definitely a good combo and well worth it. I wanted to order a stuffed croissant as well but was told they no longer serve those. Absolutely the BEST Ice Cream in the 626. This is a Mom and Pop operation, and they make their ice cream fresh everyday. I was talking to Alex, and he comes in early in the morning to prepare his ice cream for the day. They even have Durian ice cream made fresh. The ice cream is creamy, not too sweet and lots of flavor. I was surprised by the little piece of fruit inside the ice cream, so you know, he is using fresh ingredients. There wasn't anyone when I walked in but a staff member came out shortly afterward while I was browsing their ice cream options. Sesame ice cream in a bolo bao $3.25+$2.50=$5.75. Interestingly, I was charged a flat $6 and the receipt was not itemized so I'm not sure what the extra $0.25 charge was. I also paid in cash. The bolo bao was definitely delicious, hot, and crispy. I honestly would've been happy to have the Bao by itself but the sesame ice cream was very tasty as well, very smooth and creamy. I also saw that on the menu board, it said that step 3 was to choose two toppings for free but I wasn't even given the option to? I didn't know if it's because I got a bolo bao, the staff did not ask me what toppings I wanted or maybe it didn't include toppings. Yogurt green tea regular sized and lavender milk tea regular sized $3.00+$3.50=$6.50. Once again I noticed I was charged a flat $7 that I paid in cash...why did I get charged the extra $0.50 in this transaction? The yogurt green tea was good and refreshing and not too sweet but the lavender milk tea was on the sweet side. Very creative concept. :) The shop is located in the Bank of America plaza in Lower Azusa, It's literally a hidden gem because it is sort of hidden LOL. It is next to BofA but you have to walk towards the side and you will see it. They serve different flavors of ice cream and you have the option to get it with Bolo Bao ($2.50), cup or the cone (original or pandan $1.00). you may also add 2 free toppings of your choice. I ordered the Bolo Bao with strawberry shortcake, but really I was hoping they have the black sesame and the cookies but they are not avaiable at the moment. I did not regret getting the strawberry shorcake, it tastes sooo good with the bun. The bun is served fresh and hot. Super awesome dessert spot! The little shop is so cute and they have a wide array of Asian ice cream flavors. Highly recommend getting their ice cream inside a pineapple bun or even just their ice cream. Inside the shop are board games too, so a great late night place to hang out. Go towards the right side of Bank of America where parking lot curves and you'll be able to see the store is located at the end. This ish is delicious! Tried the bolo bao (sweet bun) ice cream sandwich with half Horchata and half Coffee & Cookies. So good! Another good combo for the sweet bun was Vanilla Bean ice cream and Oreo crumble topping (inside the bun).
