"It was an opportune moment where hunger met fine dining; their outdoor seating was both inviting and perfectly timed." Their marketing is not very good as I could not find the name of the restaurant any where. Not on the menu nor anywhere on the building front. I had to ask for the name. We odered drinks. Jan ordered a lemon cello spritzer and I ordered a Paulander, the only beer on the menu. Italty is not much into beer. The waiter asked if I wanted a small or large beer. I'm thinking 1/2 pint and pint. I said large and He brought out a humongous beer. Guessing it was a quart. The menu is extensive. One of those that wears you out going over it. We decided to order the burrata to share after we saw it delivered to a table close by. It was lovely. Oh my, really loved the olive oil that was on the table. The name on the bottle was Rioba. Did a web search, and while finding Rioba, could not find the particular label. Thoroughly enjoyed the burrata. The Focaccia was tasty and a little crisp. Outside of the mozzarella, I did not recognize the other cheeses. It came with salami, prosciutto, ham and one other unidentified meat. It also came with sliced tomatoes. The olive oil brought it all together in a delectable maner. The service was good. The weather was perfect. It was fun and relaxed. The venue has formal dining rooms. Located only a stone's throw away from the Piazza de Spagna - The Spanish Steps and the Piazza Della Trinita De' Monti. This restaurant is dreamy. Beautiful, both inside and out. The restaurant has a lovely outdoor seating area and an even more romantic interior dining room, with embellished murals and artwork. The staff was the reason we stopped walking and sightseeing to have a bite to eat. As we walked by they were absolutely brilliant, funny and very welcoming. We chose to eat outside in the enchanting outdoor patio. That truly was the best decision. It was a beautiful evening around 7pm when they sat us down. The restaurant is located across from high end shops and next to many other coveted spots. They started us off with some bread, butter and water. We then ordered 2 Coke zeros because wine is just not as refreshing as water and soda after a hot Roman day. For our entrées we ordered the following: Elegantly plated Ravioli filled with spinach and ricotta cheese, served with a very tasty marinara sauce. Spaghetti pasta a la carbonara. This dish was the star of the show, made with a creamy sauce of eggs, Pecorino Romano cheese, cured pork pancetta, and black pepper. The freshly cooked pasta was phenomenal. Absolutely delicious and mouthwatering. Our server also brought us an entire bowl of fresh grated parmesan cheese for us to share. It's difficult to choose a good restaurant sometimes when there are so many to choose from, but Crispi19 is a perfect choice. This restaurant engages in price gouging and bait-and-switch -like behavior. Items on the menu are in one price range except for the item you didn't ask the cost of from the sandwich board out front. That dish will be €90. If for some reason you still feel compelled to eat here, the experience does not significantly improve. Here's a quick rundown: * The carbonara and mixed grilled seafood platter were decidedly mid. Dry salmon. * Minestrone broth tasted ok but was 90% zucchini and onions. No beans. No pasta or rice. * Waiter had the audacity to tell us the bill did not include any tip when I could clearly see "Servizio" costing us €10. * The ambiance and location were the only positives. Should have heeded the yelp warnings. We spotted this place on a walk to somewhere else, but were starving. I'm tempted to gag myself and start over. There was only one Italian, cheesy, waitstaff, and the rest of them immigrants. Not that that's a bad thing, but the food sure was. As another yelper stated they tried to sell us on about 100 different things to start. I got a pasta dish with mushrooms and I literally think they opened up a CAN of mushrooms and dumped it on some cheap pasta. Avoid this place at all costs. They take advantage of tourists with bait/switch approaches, the food is not good, the waiter seems to purposely misunderstand the customer which leads to more confusion and higher charges, and the ambience/service was poor. They add food to the bill that the customer did not order, but they make the customer pay for it. Would not recommend. Please do not go to this place. This restaurant had the prettiest indoor dining setup. Fantastic food and service. We ordered 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, 2 half bottles of wine, & 1 dessert to share at the recommendation of our waitress and every single item was delicious. Had a chilled red wine here that I can't find back home & which I'm still pining after. Service was attentive without being overbearing. Our dining experience at Ristorante Crispi 19 was our last meal in Roma, and our last meal in Italy, and I can say confidently that we saved the best for last. We ordered the wine tasting that accompanied the chef's seafood tasting menu, which was 7 courses of divine dishes. There were delicious foaming sauces, creams, and other delicate accoutrements which we loved, and which showcased the chef's talents. I loved being able to take a peek into the kitchen from the hallway, and really saw how fast the chef was working, and how focused he was, and I think that is why every course that came out was even better than the last. We also enjoyed the waiter, the sommelier, and the restaurant's manager, all of whom greeted us before/during/after the meal. The wine parings were on-point, and the selections were from various regions in Italy. They had fresh breads, one of which was a seaweed bread--something I've never had before, and it went so well with the sauces for each course. They even gave us a parting gift from the chef, which was a recipe for his sea-bass, and a bottle of the house olive oil. The interior of the restaurant had a dimly lit, romantic ambiance, with great air conditioning, and a lovely bathroom as well. There is a large outdoor patio, though we did not even consider that during this heat wave. What. A. Scam. We were walking by this restaurant and the waiter/host came out and friendly/aggressively he's like sit, sit, come on for their outdoor patio. We're tired and hungry. The night is turning chilly and they have heat lamps. We order our dinner and drinks. A few minutes later, the person who took our order asked us if we wanted traditional Roman veggies, he says this in Italian, we're American but my husband speaks Spanish and understands, he asks me if I want it, I shake my head no, said I ordered the spinach because I thought he was just confused about the veggie/side I ordered the guy looks at me, looks at my husband, nods and is off. Imagine our side when the manager brings us two artichokes, one boiled and one fried and four plates of bruschetta. We say no no, this isn't ours. He insists it is. I say no we didn't. He yells, we ordered it. Everyone is looking at us. Three of the four bruschettas were eventually eaten, the artichokes were not. When they pick up the plates, the manager says patronizing it, don't worry, don't worry, your food will come. It's okay. Like what? Get the bill. Nice little 10% service charge they added. The absolute worse. So I get home and look at the receipt my husband signed. They charged us four bruschettas we didn't order, the two artichoke, 1 spag pomodero, didn't order and don't even know what it is, 4 sprites, we received 2, 2 beers, we received 1, and a glass of white wine that I neither ordered or received. We came here for our final dinner in Rome, and we were sadly disappointed. The host and wait staff were so friendly and kind, but they were trying really hard to be a better restaurant than they were. But if I had to rate it alone on the friendliness and eagerness of the staff, they would get a 5+ stars. Since they heavily advertised their seafood and I was craving seafood after a week of past, we decided to give it a shot. We ordered truffle carpaccio, the spiny whole lobster and a bottle of Italian Riesling. All were pretty average. The carpaccio had no flavor, and was cut heavily so it was really grinding to chew down. The spiny lobster, while fresh (they fished it out of the tank), but it was cooked poorly! Part of it was uncooked when it came out and they kind of tossed it in some type of vinaigrette salad thing where some of it was look warm and other parts uncooked. The wine was ok, nothing to write home about. All in all, I would never come back here again. read more

In Rome for a week and came to Crispi 19 for dinner on our last night. Walking in, it was clear that this was different than any other place we had been to. It was very nice, formal with an older style elegance. When we arrived, the front room was sparsely populated and we sat a back room which started as a nice private dinner. Over time the restaurant filled up and was total full. Even with a full restaurant, it never felt crowded or noisy. The service at Crispi 19 was outstanding. We had dietary restrictions in the group and they were very accommodating and helpful, explaining the menu and helping identify what dishes can be customized. The menu and food was not surprisingly.... Italian.. Variety of food in Rome in general was a lot more limited than other cities. It was also some of the best food we ate in Italy. Every dish was well prepared. The pasta was wonderfully cooked. Fresh and nicely spiced. The portions were perfect. Ended the meal with a limoncello that was given to us after having desert. Despite not being a big, digestif person, really enjoyed the limoncello. The only negative is that Crispi 19 was on the expensive side relative to many other restaurants. read more

The dinner we enjoyed at Crispi 19 was highly enjoyable and quite memorable. The food was all delicious and beautifully presented. The service was welcoming, friendly, and very attentive, and the prices were surprisingly reasonable given the quality of the food. This is apparently a very popular venue, so I'd suggest that you call and make a reservation as far in advance as possible. If you have four people in your party, there's a booth available in a separate room; you should request to be seated there when you make your reservation. My friends and I enjoyed our dinner by candlelight in that separate room, and the resultant memory will be cherished by all four of us for quite some time to come :-) The four of us opted for the fish tasting menu, which offered an excellent section of dishes for us to try. A beautiful dining room, delicious food, and gracious hosts can all be found at Crispi 19. The evening was full of delightful surprises. I am gluten free and the waiter was knowledgeable about all the menu items. All the servers were kind and made me feel taken care of. We had an amazing tuna tartar and then I had gluten free squid ink pasta. My date had mussel ravioli that she said was 'perfect'. The entire experience was wonderful, and I wish I had more time in Rome to try more of the menu. The wine was fantastic! I do not usually like sauv blanc, but it paired excellently with the wine. We came here on our last night in Rome looking for gluten free accommodations and we were so grateful for the lovely meal provided here. The service was incredible and the wine selection was great. My significant other ordered a pasta dish gluten free which was met with no fuss. His dish was great and one of the best gluten free pastas he had. We stay literally across the street and wanted to try the T-bone station but there were closed so we settled for this place. We ordered Shrimp Fettuccine and I asked to make it with Alfredo sauce, and again I said it "please make it with cream sauce". I've attached the photo of what we got. They insisted if this was fettuccine and it turned in into a heated loud verbal argument. Staff is friendly but the rude tall bitch with heavy accent is a C word and I wouldn't waste my time even looking at the menu. If I can give them a six star I would. The waitress was so delightful and friendly. Give us a lot of recommendation on what's the best to pick to gain the best experience (that was super appreciative) I got the seafood soup it's worth the price (40euro) because it can feed up to 2-3 people and we also got the pasta with clam. That pasta was by far the most delicious pasta ever because the flavor was within the pasta (super rare ) it was just mouth watering. Their house bread was baked Fresh! So I have a long history with this restaurant. My first visit to Italy was with my mom in 2010. We stayed at hotel Modigliani really close to the Spanish steps. Our first night in our hotel recommended this restaurant. It was really close by so we walked. We had a clam spagetthi that was so good we came back another night. This past month my husband and I came to Italy and I couldn't for the life of me remember the name to this place. I knew it was just around the corner from the hotel so we decided to walk around to look for it. We searched for half an hour going up and down streets. Finally we gave up but in a last ditch effort we stopped by the hotel to ask. They probably thought I was a complete crazy person when I started off saying so I stayed here 5 years ago... From my very vague description they were able to tell me it was crispi! Sure enough it was the next block over! We arrived early around 7 and were seated at the table by the window. The place is perfect for a date night. We split every course and felt so satisfied. We had the pasta with clam sauce, the tuna tartare, and the sampler. My advice would be to skip the sampler. The service was excellent! A lot of times in Italy or France you would be blaspheming to ask for a red wine with fish. Here they suggested a really nice Amarone that I think went really well. Overall Crispi was and still is my favorite restaurant in Rome. read more

My husband and I visited Italy for the first time. Crispi 19 was the one the hotel concierge recommended us for the very first dinner in Italy. We ordered the prefixed Fish Tasting Menu and every dish was tasty made us say wow or give sighs with admiration! The combination of fresh ingredients and chef's sense of cooking was awesome. The presentation was beautiful too and the wine selection was also very good. The restaurant was crowded and the service was a bit slow but we were fully satisfied with the great staff with appropriate friendliness. We should have probably been warned by the fact that we were the only diners at the establishment at 8PM but we stayed because we were tired and it was next door to our hotel. That being said, the service and the staff is very friendly and tried to be as helpful as possible, the food just wasn't that special. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't the homemade Italian meal we were looking for. It was just an average meal in Rome, something I could have probably made myself (and I'm no chef). My husband had the beef with the black truffles and the beef wasn't really cooked fully and the black truffles was overrated. I got the spaghetti which was pretty bland and a hard texture. Should have done more research before popping in as it was quite expensive for a lunch, but it was a case of wanting to find A/C and excellent food with minimal walking. The food was indeed excellent, as was the service, but at quite a cost relative to other restaurants in Rome. The menu has an extensive seafood selection, which would have been ideal for dinner.
