With the word "BREAD" written outside and the glass walls displaying an assortment of baked goods, why wouldn't you want to try this place? When you open the doors, you immediately smell the aroma of freshly baked bread. The major case starting from the right has all their breads, loaves, and rolls, the next case to the left has their scones, danishes, croissants, and cookies, the small display case to left of the previous case has the quiches, and the case farthest to the left of the register contains the beautiful desserts and cakes. I tried the mushroom leek quiche and it was delicious. If you eat in, they will heat up your quiche for you. The crust was flakey, the egg was light, and the mushroom and leek flavors came through. The pecan roll wasn't too syrupy and it had a good amount of nuts. The coffee was also good. We got scones to go and they were all delicious! Overall, it's a nice place to grab something quick or stay and relax with a pastry and a cup of coffee. The glass walls are nice and it's cool to see everyone at work behind the scenes. Absolutely the best around. So glad they now offer delivery thru Uber Eats. It's about 10 miles round trip for me so sometimes I put off going . I use the Uber pass so delivery is free. I love it. I stopped by this morning to pick up a couple of goodies for myself and a few friends. I really like the design of the building. It is open, light and modern with tall glass cases for bread, one for cakes and another for other baked items. It was around 2pm on a Sunday so a few items had been sold out. Their croissants and cookies are huge and everything looked good- it was difficult to pick a few. I ended up sampling the chocolate croissant and the cheese danish. Both were wonderfully, perfectly flaky, a delicate balance often missed in the US. The chocolate croissant had hunks of creamy chocolate, well proportioned without being too heavy, with a good dusting of powered sugar. The Danish was also well portioned with sweetness and drizzled with frosting. So good and I will be back to check out other goodies as well as their bread selection. read more

A fancy bakery that serves Rustic European style bread, pastries and cakes. They place looks cool with the wide open display and open baking station. A great place to have light brunch. They have a good number of tables and I didn't have trouble finding a table when I went around 11am on a Saturday. Bread/Pastries/ Cakes: Croissant - giant croissant! Just one makes you full! Buttery and crispy, chewy inside. Ask for butter and it will double the taste. They seem to use fresh butter, lightly salted and delicious. Quiche Loraine - my favorite item here. Bacon with fluffy pie and egg. Yummmm! Don't forget to ask them to heat it up. Chocolate Croissant - the chocolate inside is rich and good, but wish they put more in it. Regarding their product, everything I've brought here is fantastic. Possibly some of the best bread I've ever had. Pastries are very good too. A plus is some of the bread types are sold at Woodward Corners. Why three stars? I've made two visits in the last month or so. First visit I bought some bread and an Italian sandwich with giardiniera. I liked the bread for the sandwich and asked if I could get the bread separately. The kid at the counter said yes and I got six (I guess I can call them halves) for $5. Second visit; different kid this time, adamantly said they don't sell the sandwich bread to people. Make up your minds. I wouldn't have made a point to drive all the way downtown, past Woodward Corners, if you didn't sell the sandwich bread to me in the first place. Super annoying. read more

One of the best baguettes I've had in a long time. A little ways up Main Street, the strip is lucky to have such a talented bakery and patisserie in the mix. My wife stumbled on Bread a while back and brought home a baguette that looked like it had individual leaves of bread. It was sprinkled with kosher salt and it was magnificent to eat. I went back to retrieve another alas they didn't have one. In lieu of the baguette branch I picked up a basic baguette, a blueberry bar, a chocolate croissant and an Americano coffee. I will say that their coffe needs some work. My Americano was terribly flavorless without any wafty coffee aroma to speak of. Fortunately as I drove I was teased by the yeasty aroma from the bag of goodies. If you haven't been yet you should get here and try a little of everything, 4.5 stars. read more

WOW......What can I say other than this is without a doubt the BEST BAKERY I have found.The sourdough bread is truly amazing. The rye bread is great. The pumpernickel/rye swirl is just as good. Their cinnamon bread is really fabulous. I have them slice it thick and make French toast for my girls , they think it's the best French toast that they've ever had. Several of the other breads we have tried are also very good. My wife tells me that their cookies and croissants are great. The staff at the bakery are all very friendly and the place is bright and clean. Great products......Great staff........Fair prices.......what not to love Unfortunately Bread by Crispellis seems to be slipping. The products seem to be great one week and not so good the next. I bought a couple of loafs of cinnamon bread for my neighbors and they raved about them and a couple of weeks later they told me that the bread wasn't very good and didn't taste like cinnamon at all. The oatmeal cookies were half the size they used to be and weren't very fresh . To make matters worse I called ahead last week to preorder and prepay for several items and the girl told me that if I wanted to preorder that my order wouldn't be ready for two days. Very happy to have a real bakery in downtown Royal Oak, especially one affiliated with Crispelli's, which is one of my favorite spots. Breads: I love all the bread selections at the original Crispelli's on Woodward, and have enjoyed the kalamata olive, country, and sour dough breads here as well. They run out of the popular ones quick, so come early if you have a big sourdough hankering. They will slice it for you if asked, but it's a medium slice, can't choose extra thin or thick. Bakery treats: They have a nice variety of bakery treats, but would love more European-style savory treat options well. The quiches are good. I enjoyed the pain au chocolat as well. Coffee: Excellent Great Lakes coffee. Tastes great, not burnt and bitter like Starbucks. The coffee station set up is a bit awkward. There is no appropriate place to dispose of extra liquids - and man, those cups are overfilled even before adding creamer. Service: The staff are generally friendly and helpful. They don't seem extremely knowledgeable about baked goods (what an odd statement, I know, but you might know what I mean) but try and help nonetheless. One thing to clarify before anything: bread and pastries are delicious! Probably better than some of the other specialized bakeries in the area, absolutely better than standard bakeries. However, service is really, really, reallyyyyy deficient. There has not been one time when I come in and get out in less than 10 - 15 minutes (i.e. there's always a line and mostly because nobody is at the counter helping customers), not one time when I don't see gloomy faces from bakers and sellers, and absolutely no occasion where I was received with a hello, thank you or smile. I would love to come in, have a quick breakfast and enjoy my coffee before the beginning of the day. I have done it once, but the atmosphere at the shop is a turnoff to repeat that ritual. Granted, I am frequently there around 7 - 8 am so maybe the whole team hates mornings. But hey, it's a bakery, right? Bakers are usually ok with mornings... Confession - I did not get bread from here. I was in a pinch and needed a "coffee shop", Yelp directed me to this place. I got a $2 hot tea and sat back to listen to a webinar. I was positioned in a way that I could see the shear number of bread transactions. Calling this place a coffee house is a little misleading - it is a bakery which also has coffee (and tea). There were a few instances where the counter was without a line. The rest of the time it was one person in line, at some points there were 3-7 people perusing the goodies. At all times the staff was efficient and pleasant. They were making some type of quiche which smelled delicious. The bread is about $5/loaf. They have other pastries as well. I liked that the breads come without preservatives. Next time I'll order a loaf. The tea was good and the people were very nice. read more

My main reason is their communication.... the door sign says that on weekdays they are open until 6 pm and also on web it states the same. I finally checked this place out after staring at it everyday during my commute! Of course I had to try everything including croissants, scones and other yummy pastries. Their selection was so large I couldn't help myself. I still haven't sampled all that I brought home but so far my favorite was this pastry that looked like a double cinnamon roll that was just pastry puff, with chocolate chips and powdered sugar on top. I'm glad they use Great Lakes coffee because you have to have great coffee with a great pastry. Not only was the food delicious but their customer service was on point! I really really really liked the decor. Open windows into kitchen, rolling pin chandeliers, old pictures on the wall, just clean and crisp everywhere you look. The prices were very affordable, some of the gourmet produce charge more for their breads, and yes they did have ingredients listed so you could see which were vegan without having to ask. We got some coffees and my stepdaughters iced vanilla soy latte was the best I've ever had anywhere. It was euphoric, I had to give it right back or I would have demolished it. The cashiers were kind of rude, but maybe they got off a morning rush or something, so I wouldn't hold it against them. I'll definitely be back. read more

First & Last Visit! Ordered two bakery items. Apparently, they have some bizarre policy that certain pasteries can't go in the bag together (if one is in a plastic container, and the other isn't). To be clear, I found out later they had put one item (in a plastic container) inside a bag, while the other item was simply left on the counter. So, I paid the cashier, then took the bag and left...assuming that both items were in the bag. Then, drove clear across town and noticed that one of the items was missing. I called Bread and was told I could return to get the pastry that had been left on the counter, which meant I'd have to leave (immediately) from my current location to make it there before closing time. I said it wasn't convenient and requested that they do a chargeback to refund my money for the item. The person identifying herself as the Manager claimed that she's new and would contact someone to find out how to do a chargeback and would contact me shortly. I called back awhile later after not hearing from her and was told she wasn't there. The male employee who had answered the phone stated that he'd do the chargeback immediately. I was put on hold for several minutes, and the call eventually disconnected. This happened 3 times after I continued to call back and was put on hold by the same person (who was allegedly working on the chargeback issue). My money was never refunded. I know we're just talking about a few dollars, but it's the principle of the matter. The way they handled this was simply inexcusable. read more

We drove by the other day and saw people baking something through the windows, so we decided to come take a look at a possible new place to get coffee and some bread. Needless to say, I'm quite impressed. The bakery has large windows that make the place very bright and a nice environment to have a chat over some coffee. The second you walk in, there's a large window of delicious looking bread labeled by type and price, as well as a variety of breakfast pastries and desserts. You can see the baker in the back prepping dough and various other things while you are sitting around, as it is an open kitchen. We stopped by a few times to study, and the workers are very accommodating, turning down the music a tad so that it's more of a studious environment. The large standing table is definitely a plus for a group to study together at. There aren't too many chairs and tables to study at, but definitely enough for a few groups to sit around and do their own thing. Sunday's around noon gets a bit crazy; I imagine it's due to church getting out or people just wanting some bread for their Sunday lunch/dinner. The price is very very reasonable. You can get a whole loaf of fresh baked ciabatta, cinnamon marble bread, french loaf, or many others for less than $5-6, which is equal to what you would pay at Holiday, except you can see them making more in the back! We've gotten almost every pastry too, and gotta say, they are pretty good. The coffee is great lakes, so you can't go wrong there either. Free parking on the side of the building, and pretty easy to find (right off main!). Definitely one of our goto spots to study. read more

First let me say that I love Crispelli's original store a few miles away. I saw this place being renovated and was eager to see what was going to become of it. I was excited to find out it was owned by Crispelli. Flash forward a few weeks after they opened and my friend and I were headed to Starbucks for a coffee and chat. We happened to pass this store and we both agreed it was worth turning around to check it out instead of Starbucks. Wow, what a great decision! Its a super chic place. Looked amazing inside and the display of the products were great. I couldn't wait to try everything! Sadly I had to choose only one bakery item since I'm watching my figure. I chose the cinnamon roll and also got a brewed coffee and a sliced loaf of the italian bread to go. The cinnamon roll was great. It's not the ooie gooie ones you get at the Cinnabon. This one was more sophisticated with a flaky bread and real cinnamon sugar filling (which you could tell because the cinnamon was all caramelized and crispy on the underside of it. The coffee honestly was one of the best cups I've had since being in Italy. It was so roasty and had that character only found from freshly grown whole coffee beans. The italian bread was also phenomenal. My husband and I ended up eating the whole loaf within 24 hours because it was addicting. To conclude... I am SO HAPPY this place is only a mile away from me because I am sure this will be a weekly spot for me. read more

So I stopped in this new Bakery/Coffee shop on Main Street. My first reaction was this place looks cool and smells wonderful. I went to the bathroom to wash my hands and it was clean but the lighting was very dark. I came out into the dining room and the floors were filthy. It wasn't because of the weather, it was because they hadn't been cleaned in a while. I would think an open air bakery would clean at least daily. I went ahead and ordered a quiche and coffee over the loud night club style music. Yes I can be an old man sometimes. The counter person was pleasant and she tried to apologize for not having muffins yet. Out if the 5 small tables 3 of them were dirty. This caused me to look like a creeper and sit at the table next to the only other person there. Yeah she looked at me weird. Come on people clean your dining room every once in awhile. You can't go wrong with Great Lakes coffee so that was good. My quiche on the other hand was luke warm and under cooked. Probably won't order that again. Oh and the ovens alarm is so loud it is disturbing. This looks like a great place to stop for a quick loaf of fresh bread but I won't spend anytime in it again. My first impression was not very pleasant when I walk into a bakery I expect to have the aroma of fresh baked bread and something was very off there I couldn't put my finger on it. When I ordered I was surprised that they didn't take their food from the showcase they already have stuff prepackaged I did not understand that for being a bakery they usually cut the bread fresh for you? I had asked for a thick cut Ryebread because it was making Patty melts it was sliced very thin and not really what I wanted it but the surprising part was it was already sliced and it wasn't the loaf that I want it she just gave me something off the shelf they already had prepackaged. I also ordered some dinner rolls again just very disappointed they were hard as a rock I thought they would be OK if I warmed it up in the oven but no. Extremely disappointment I was just expecting a lot more!!! It all comes back to when I entered the bakery it just didn't have that Homie good smell feeling of fresh baked bread!!!! read more

So disappointed that the breads are now wrapped in plastic....those from bakery had softened by the time we got home and at Meijer Corners market, the épi breads were sagging in their display basket.
