Great bakery...Crispellis is my go to for a personal pizza and dessert, but I haven't tried the bakery/cafe until today. In my search for great pastries, I was not disappointed. They had fresh chocolate croissants, almond croissants, ham and cheese croissants, a wall of bread loaves, Scones, personal quiches in many flavors, Danish, cookies, etc. I ended up buying more than I meant to, a chocolate croissant, an almond croissants, a ham and cheese croissants, and a quiche Lorraine. All amazing. The service was quick and friendly. I was even asked if I wanted my pastries warmed up. I did get a large coffee to go, as well. It wasn't the freshest cup, but tasty regardless. If your searching for quality pastries (and probably bread, too), just run here fast. read more

I've enjoyed everything I've tried from here. I stop in occasionally for bread or pastries and usually end up with a few more items. Most recently I bought a loaf of pepper parmesan bread - it was a huge hit at my house. It toasted up great. I've gotten the pastrami sub a few times, it's huge - at least for me - and I can get 2 lunches out of it. All of the pastries are delicious - it makes it hard to choose. The staff is super efficient, making for barely any wait time. It's clean inside, there are tables for eating in if you want, and there is generally just a nice atmosphere. Definitely a go to spot for a nicer loaf of bread or a yummy treat. read more

I love the chocolate croissant for breakfast and Crispelli's cannolis are the best in Michigan (we had them at our wedding reception they're that good!). After 10:30am, they serve yummy sandwiches, which they'll warm for you upon request (see pics). Dedicated parking and quick service. This place is the coziest bakery with a variety of breads and sweets. I usually come for the sourdough which is light and airy, but last time I got the cinnamon roll and it was AMAZING. It's flaky like a croissant with the perfect amount of icing! Highly recommend! There's a few tables inside and they do have WiFi if you wanted to do some work here as well! read more

The perfect place for a weekend treat! Crispelli's has been a go-to restaurant for pizza, baked treats, starters, sandwiches and salads for many years. I just learned about the bakery on Main, and stopped in for a treat. I was famished, so I ordered a ham & cheese croissant, a lemon tart, and a treat for later in the week. I chose carrot cake for my mid-week pick me up. The croissant is fantastically flaky and buttery. The crisp bits on the pastry was what truly sent me. It was heavenly. I also enjoyed the lemon tart filling, which is sweet with the perfect tang of lemon. I didn't much care for the crust, it seemed to be baked too long. I couldn't really eat it. The carrot cake is good. There of course, are lots of other bakery staples to choose from including breads, which are offered in daily specials, cookies, brownies and a variety of cakes. The coffee drink menu looks good as well. There are a handful of seating options, but perfect for carry-out. There is a small adjacent parking lot. read more

I don't go to bakeries often but I'll say that Cripellis is one of my favorites. The staff that I encountered has been friendly, engaging and gave great suggestions when I'm torn between cookies and brownies. The Epi bread is crunchy, salty and delicious. It's also a great coffee shop to go to work. The space is quiet during the day. read more

I'm updating my review because Crispelli's used to use European buttercream in their cakes, but they've changed to American, which is really disappointing because it's extremely difficult to find a bakery that uses European. I thought they had the best cakes in the area, but I wouldn't buy again because it tastes no different than a grocery store cake to me. If you don't like that kind of frosting, I wouldn't get a slice here. I'm not deducting a star because the laminated pastries and bread are still five stars (though I miss the apricot danish, my family's favorite) -- not removing one just for cake. read more

This bakery is seriously amazing. I always make a stop if I'm in the area. The bread they bake here is how bread should be: flavorful by itself without the need of anything else, but of course you can add butter, spreads, or make an amazing sandwich with it. I love their sesame semolina bread. The toasted seeds add a fragrance to the bread as well as a textural contrast. The baguettes are good too, with diaphanous, lacey insides and a good crust outside. I wish I could say I love the epi bread-it's a baguette cut to look like a stalk of wheat so you can break off pieces for rolls, but they sprinkle a little too much salt on top for my taste. Instead, I buy the rolls which do the trick. I like how they have loaves of bread open to air and not stored in plastic bags-this helps preseve the texture of the crust. The pastries are also delicious. I have had the croissants before, both savory and sweet, and they are flakey and full flavored. One tip is to come early-they sell out of some items pretty quickly, and the last time I came here was in the early afternoon and they had already sold out of many items. They do get busy in the morning, so be prepared for lines. read more

I went in on a Saturday night and while they were out of some of the breads I wanted, they still had several varieties of fresh bread, pastries, cookies, and other dessert items. I purchased a sourdough loaf (it was tangy, chewy, crusty, top-notch sourdough- perfect for breakfast, great crannies for butter), the EPI baguette (this was the favorite- you can rip off each individual piece and the salting was perfect- great for sharing at the table for dinner or a get-together), the baguette (thicker width than I prefer, but a decent balance of crusty crust to soft center and good flavor), and the demi paysanne (crustier and more flavorful than their standard baguette- loved it). The almond croissant I purchased was huge and it was decent, but with less almond flavor than I'd like (it was mostly just sweet) and the dough was heavier than I'd like. The peanut butter, chocolate chip, and sprinkle cookies were good. They were large cookies, definitely for sharing! The chocolate chip and peanut butter were solid renditions. The sprinkle cookie was mostly sweet and without much flavor, but the cookie texture was nice. I had the individual chocolate mousse almost right away after purchasing my haul and it made me hum with pleasure- it was rich, silky, and had a deep chocolate flavor. As for the service, the women behind the counter were knowledgeable, friendly, and well-informed about the offerings and able to discuss my potential bread and food pairings. This bakery offers excellent service! I would repurchase almost everything I bought at Crispelli's. I will definitely go back to stock up on the breads I tried and to try other bread varieties, next time I'm in town. The breads I purchased held up well to refrigeration, freezing, and reheating, too. (*Crispelli's: There is a typo on your website in the description of the paysanne and demi paysanne loaves- I thought maybe "verstion" was a word in French or a fancy term for "version" I don't know, but I think they are actually typos, which makes me sad.) read more

This is a bakery everyone kneads in their life :) pun intended. I already love crispellis for their pizzas and salads and finally ventured to this stand alone location bakery located on the less busy stretch of Main Street. The cafe has an amazing aesthetic and a decent amount of seating both inside and outside. It was cool to see bread being rolled and hand made thru the window, it is clear that bread is being made fresh and daily and this bakery has that artisan feel to it. There is a great variety of breads, pastries, cookies, and drinks that this location offers. I tried a carrot cake croissant and it was unique and very tasty! The only con I noticed is the trash was overflowing when I visited but I think I was there towards the end of the day. Doesn't get better than this. The absolutely best baked goods I've ever had. My all time favorite is the spinach and feta croissant. The smores croissant is also amazing. Why did I not know about this place before? I happened upon it by chance when I went out to Royal Oak for an appointment. I thought it was a restaurant, but I was told it was a bakery. I went over there and it was glorious. We are already fans of Crispelli's, we go to the West Bloomfield location often. But this is a really wonderful addition to their restaurants. I was very impressed to see their large baking facility running in the back. With it becoming more rare to see small bake shops and bread makers, this was very refreshing. I was also happy to see the place bustling with customers. They had a large bread selection. The had baguettes, round and rectangular loaves. If you wish, they will slice it for you on the spot. I purchased the epi bread stick. It is like a baguette but you are able to pull off perfect single portions from the loaf. It is beautiful and perfect for a family or for guests. It was slightly salty with the classic crusty exterior and soft chewy interior. Very fresh! I ate some fresh when I purchased it, then toasted it with salmon spread later. The family finished it in less than 24 hours, it was so good. They also sell cookies, pastries, baguette sandwiches, and French boulangerie items. I purchased a couple s'more croissants. They were like classic pain au chocolat (chocolate croissants) cut in half with graham in the middle and marshmallow cream on top torched to a perfect golden color. They were amazing. I took a couple bites and gave them to the kids for dessert. Inside and outside they have tables for customers. They have a few cold drinks and some coffee. It was busy with people having a small bite. I am curious how their pastries taste, they had a amazing looking tiramisu. I am sure we will be back to find out. read more

I have long thought that the pain aux raisins here as the best in town. I loved the plump raisins in layers-upon-layers of flaky dough so I was disappointed to learn that they stopped offering it - years ago. I drove over 20 miles early Saturday morning for this breakfast treat. I guess the low-carb diet (low, not no - I do love my cookies) that I've been on did mean fewer trips to bakeries (and fewer buns on burgers). The bakery continues to be incredibly beautiful and well-maintained. There were only a few of us, each standing 6-ft apart from each other, so I was able to slow down and admire the loaves upon loaves of bread, shelved ceiling-high behind the Plexiglass barrier. They were large and crusty and tempting in my bread-deprived life. So instead of the pain aux raisins, I went with the fantastic cream cheese Danish. The dough pulled apart, stretching so that I could see all the flaky layers. The cream cheese filling was lush and thick, a generous cream cheese-to-dough ratio. I also liked the thin stream of lacy icing that barely glazed the Danish. Additionally, I enjoyed the Quiche Lorraine. The crust was thin and filled with sweet onion and ham bits, in a cheesy egg mixture. The savory breakfast hit the spot. Since I was already there, I went with a fave to enjoy the upcoming week, a loaf of black olive bread. When I opened the bag, I caught a whiff of the briny black olives. Inhale. Inhale again. And incidentally, the grilled cheese (sharp cheddar, topped with a hint of honey) was fantastic with this bread. The staff heated up the quiche for me and I was grateful that I could dive into it as soon as I got home - and took a quick photo of it. read more

I stumbled upon Bread one blustery day while looking for shelter from the artic weather and was pleasantly surprised to find such a great cafe. The rousing music and huge windows woke me up while the food kept me happy. Although the shop is busy, the line moves quickly and most of the seats were empty when I came on a weekday. There is a huge variety of pastries and breads baked fresh daily. My ginger molasses cookie was a bit too sweet for me, but there are many more cookies to try. Whenever I'm in town from NY I try to make it here. Today Saturday AM 9/23, I understand that it was busy so employees are running around. BUT It was at a lull 1 person in line. I've been given my pastry and drink already, but I remembered they usually have you pay before. I tried to get the attention of the woman who helped me but she was already helping someone else, it's fine it slipped her mind perhaps. Instead, I said excuse me to another girl/nb with buzz cut hair. She seriously just looked me right in the eyes and then turned around and ignored me. I thought she was busy with someone else but then I observed they go to another employee and stand and chat about something?? So I'm standing there like do they want me to pay for my items or what??? These are the best croissants I've found in the detroit area - and this is coming from someone who lived in france. they have a diverse selection of not only croissants, but also cake, bread, and other pastries as well as coffee. recently we tried a "seasonal" croissant with coconut which ended up being similar to a chocolate croissant, but instead of only having chocolate inside, it also had coconut filling. I don't think I would have thought to try it, but my boyfriend ordered it and it was amazing. you may have to wait in line, but I've never seen them run out of anything I wanted to try. we go weekly. read more

The pastries are amazing. Their coffees are also excellent - I tend to get jittery with some caffeine but their mocha gave me the right amount of energy without the jitters. The crowd seemed to be a little bit older in this bakery, but it was very cute people watching the oldies eating their little pastries. I will definitely come back for a French loaf. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place sooner! We love everything from here. We use baguettes to make crostini. I love their sourdough bread. We buy rolls instead of buns so I don't have to get a six pack. The croissants are amazing. I brought them in the day before Thanksgiving and my colleague thought the almond croissant was phenomenal. The sandwiches are great but beware they don't come out until 11am. We have never had anything we were unhappy with there. The fact that it's by my gym makes it dangerous. read more

I am proud to give this bakery 5 stars. I come here on a weekly basis to get bread, and pastries sometimes. The chocolate chip cookies are to die for, in fact, there's a lot in that pastry case that does it; I might as well be a cat with 9 lives... The almond croissants are the best in the region, if not the best I've ever had - save for Tartine in San Francisco. The new pineapple panna cotta is wonderful. The ham and cheese croissant *always* takes me home. Not good for my waistline with all that buttery, fatty goodness - but it's so hard to resist when the moment strikes. There are a few misses, of course. They use an American-style buttercream in their cakes, which while it tastes better than say Betty Crocker buttercream, it could totally be elevated with Swiss/Italian meringue or French buttercream. They really do make the cake and give it that je ne se quoi. The bread is pretty fantastic as well. French, Sesame Semolina are my go-to's now. The Italian bread crust used to have more flavor to it though, more tang or more umami if you will. Now I get the Demi if I want a flavor hit in every bite. They have had to raise their prices but it's not outlandishly so. I wish they did a smaller or half-pan size for some of their selections, as I can't always eat at all that bread by myself before it gets moldy. Lately I've been having the staff bag half of it seperately so I can freeze it, which surprisingly comes out OK. The staff is always pretty pleasant and helpful. Like a lot of bakery-cafes, I wish they put a little more effort into the coffee side of things. I don't exactly trust them to make me a solid espresso or latte with properly steamed milk. It's easy to say that Crispelli's is perhaps one of the most famous bakeries here in Royal Oak. Indeed, this place deserves all the fame and hype. The location is very near to Downtown Royal Oak. They have their own parking lot, which makes it very convenient. A huge plus, they are open early so grabbing a pastry (or two, no judgment here!) for breakfast might just be the perfect start for your day. The first view when you walked through the door is this amazing glass rack displaying loaves and loaves of all kinds of amazing bread. Seriously you will definitely be tempted to get one home and make yourself a fancy toast at home. That's only the beginning. To your left will be the fresh selection of pastries. Whether you like sweet or savory, they got you covered. I got to try their seasonal carrot cake croissant one time and it was absolutely delicious. The croissant was cut in the middle, generously spread with carrot cake filling, and topped with chopped pecans. The croissant itself is buttery and flakey. I would recommend having it toasted as the slight crispness from toasting will add an extra oomph you don't want to miss out on. It's so good that you will find an excuse for yourself to cancel any diet and devour this treat. On another occasion, I tried their savory croissant which is the turkey with horseradish cheddar. Again, they deliver such beautiful croissants, both in texture and flavor. Maybe because I'm a savory person but I find it less dizzying. Anyway, we also get to try their panna cotta. It was actually not too sweet. The texture was silky smooth. The base was just okay, but overall it was still really good. It might be slightly more expensive compared to some other bakeries but I think the quality makes up for the price. read more
