First, for the positives. The salon is conveniently located to my home in Northwest Austin. It is in a shopping center at 183 and Duval. The staff (Nancy the owner and Sharon) were very nice ladies, and we had a pleasant conversation while Nancy did my nails. Let me also preface this review by saying I do not getting mani/pedis regularly. I only get them done on special occasions. I had one done about a month ago at Aziz's Salon in the Arboretum with Samantha and then had one at Creative last week with Nancy. I had the exact same procedure done at both: regular pedicure and French manicure with shellac polish. The difference? Aziz charged $10 more. Aziz has a lovely salon so it feels like a spa; Creative is a small place with no frills. My nails looked great after my Aziz appointment; they also looked great after Creative (although two of my fingernails were not filed correctly - they were at a slant). The biggest difference is my cuticle bled at Creative, and my big toe was in a lot of pain after Nancy pulled at an ingrown part of it (I am on prenatal vitamins and apparently my nails are growing like crazy). It makes me wonder if Samantha at Aziz saw the same problems Nancy did at Creative but just ignored them, or if the pain I experienced at Nancy's hands was necessary. The reason I don't get regular mani/pedis is because sometimes I bleed, and why would I want to go back if that happens? Nancy asked how I was liking the mani/pedi, and I mentioned the blood in my fingernail (which made everything sting afterwards) and the pain in my big toe. She explained why those things hurt. But it would have been nice if she had mentioned that BEFORE she did them so I would have had the choice of letting her do what she thought was necessary or not. My other issue was the chair I sat in for the mani/pedis. It was extremely uncomfortable. There was not enough padding to sit in the same seat (she does the manicure and pedicure simultaneously) for over an hour. I had tried to make my appointment at Aziz but Samantha was booked. I gave Creative a chance based on the outstanding Yelp reviews (but why are most of them filtered?) and convenient location. But I think it is worth it to me to spend the extra $10 to not bleed or feel discomfort, and feel more relaxed in a more spa-like setting. read more

Cons - $35 for a regular run of the mill pedicure, (usually its $25 everywhere else I have ever been) is overpriced in my opinion. it was average/good but nothing to merit the extra $10. No frills, but cute shop. If you are looking for a spa like atmosphere, this isn't the place for you. They have decent color selection, but you can tell some of the colors are old and need to be replaced. The location is convenient, in a strip center right off the 183 N feeder road. It's extremely easy to get to and there is ample parking. The decor is cute, it reminds me of a shop I frequented in the San Francisco Bay Area. I walked in for services, didn't make an appointment, and waited maybe 30 mins? Not bad, considering I was just walking in. Nancy is the owner and she did my services of an eyebrow wax and gel manicure. Nancy's prices are more than fair for the services I received today; I can't wait to come back for a pedicure! I have been going to Creative Hair and Nails for many years, but had been taking a break during the COVID outbreak. Finally, I couldn't wait any longer for a pedicure so I went in today. I think that, short of a cleanroom environment in a high tech facility, I couldn't have found a safer, more disinfected place. Nancy is wearing both a mask and a face shield. She disinfects everything before and after the visit. And it is clear that she just basically really CARES. She has limited her clientele to low-risk folks and only one client (masked) and Nancy are allowed in the room at one time. If you prefer a smaller, safer salon, I'd say to give Creative Hair and Nails a try. read more

Personally I appreciate her respecting my time as a customer since my appointment had just begun. I've been going to Creative Nails for a while now. Nancy Dinh is a very professional and accomplished nail technician. I've not gone anywhere else since I found her. It's a small shop and provides a quality ambience that is relaxing compared to those large nail salons. Her prices a good and she listens to you. I used to live nearby , so I've been coming here for years and although the ownership has changed hands, it is the cleanest nail salon I've been to in Austin. The staff are very friendly and meticulous and the prices are very reasonable, so I after many disappointments at nail salons closer to my home, I regularly drive out to Creative Hair and Nails. Their pedicures are very thorough so you leave with pretty, pampered feet. Also, I just tried the new laquer nails (OPI soak-off gel) there today. I've had Shellac nail polish done at another salon and while I liked the results, I like the price and the look of this long-last manicure, much more. Creative Hair and Nail is the best kept little secret in Northwest Austin. I have been coming to this salon for the last ten years. Recently, the salon was purchased by new owners and I was determined not to give them a chance to service my beauty needs. In a pinch one day, purely for convenience, I decided to give them a try. I love this place! I found this gem a few months ago and have been coming for regular shellac manicures. It lasts me 2-3 weeks before I have to go get it redone. I have to keep my nails looking professional for work and am glad I don't have to worry about chipping. I book all my appointments with Nancy and she is always very accommodating. I went here for a pedicure on the spur of the moment. They were very accommodating and pleasant. I explained I had not had a pedicure in some time because I always mess up my nails playing sports. They suggested I try shellac on my toenails. Not inexpensive, compared to my favorite place in south Austin, but it will be worth it if the pedicure lasts. I used to work close by which made it convenient, but its little out of the way now that I've switched jobs. I thought this place was convenient as I had been there a long time ago but came away very unhappy. First, they advertise a pedicure at $25 but it is actually $35, a lot more than most places. Secondly, the amount charged to my credit card was changed by $5.00. Not a lot but still that constitutes fraudulent business practices. This is not a place that I would recommend or go to in the future. Dishonesty seems to be their policy. The $5 was refunded to me after I called and questioned this charge. I have been coming for years for eyebrow wax and shape, manis an dpedi, and cut /color! They ROCK! I tried the new shellac and it is the best! Lasts for 2-3 weeks and they don't charge to take it off- something most other nail places do. Also, tried the new deep conditioning treatment this time and my hair remained soft and smooth for over a week! None of us had been there before but the place is located near my house, so I thought we'd check it out. We didn't have an appointment but Nancy was so accommodating an took us all - even though she was short staffed that day. We had mani/pedis which turned out so great! It was a relaxing and clean environment. Nancy really felt like a friend to us. She kept the conversation going the whole time and took great care of us. She even threw in some extras free of charge (plus she served us some wine!) By the way, my pedicure lasted almost 2 months!!! I don't often get mani/pedis but I will definitely be back soon!
