We were just living with it until finally I realized that we needed a reset. Someone recommended Garden Natives, and I gave them a call. I wasn't sure they would be willing to work on our yard because I just wanted a cleanup and we don't have a lot of California natives. But Amanda and Sydney came out, understood the problem immediately, were not put off by the task, and gave us a reasonable estimate. Initially they were just going to do the back but then offered that they had some extra time and could do the front as well. We went from two really overgrown yards to something more modest that I can keep going on my own. They reduced the overplanting, trimmed down the remaining plants, mulched, and gave us lots of encouragement and advice. Working with them was great because I felt like they understood what I was trying to do and had the expertise to do it, and they were very kind and friendly at the same time. I was also impressed at their crew. Amanda and Syndey are great but I was pleasantly surprised to see that the team doing the work was also exceptionally thorough and thoughtful, interested in discussing plants and landscaping and giving us advice. It really is a nice business. When I look at the yards now I can't believe how much nicer it all looks (and how many weeds they pulled). It was money well spent and if it gets out of hand again, I wouldn't hesitate to call them back.

No stress. The thing our friends tell us when they visit is "It feels like it has always been this way. It feels like a natural extension of the house." Besides the results, several aspects of HOW they work impressed us: First, although this was a fairly complex, multi-month project with a few unexpected wrinkles (thrown in by us), they completed it on time and on budget. The one and only change order was small and was well communicated in advance. We chose to proceed and it was all crystal clear. Second, their workers are top-notch. They were professional, organized, and detail-oriented craftsman. Every single one. Walls are straight and level with deep foundations and proper reinforcement; walkways are level; every detail is perfect, including the underground details that no one is ever going to see. They show up on time, work hard and leave it clean, *safe* and organized at the end of the day, every day, which we appreciated because we have young kids. Third, this is no fly-by-night organization like some in the landscaping world. Karen and Omar have long-term employees who have insurance and benefits, take their breaks etc. They do things right and aren't going to open you up to a lawsuit if someone gets hurt. They listened to our feedback and adapted the plan in ways that made a big difference, working with materials from our house that made the new space feel like it has always been this way. We love our new yard and would recommend them without hesitation.

We contacted Artscape and from the get-go, Ben responded promptly. Ben asked us to fill out a landscape needs/wants questionnaire which provided him with a general idea of our vision. My wife wanted more of a succulent dominant landscape whereas I wanted more color and plant textures. Ben spent a considerable time incorporating our thoughts into a cohesive plan and a landscape design to fit our topography and climate. This was a dynamic process with a lot of communication. With our budget in mind, Ben provided alternative plant choices and explained the reasoning in a thoughtful, kind, and professional manner. Ben is an excellent communicator and designer. Once we agreed on the plan, Oscar and Melvin completed the installation. They were always on time, worked tirelessly and surpassed our expectations of professionalism. We received status updates at each milestone and were informed on what work was to take place leading to the next milestone. During the install, they found some leaks in our irrigation system and fixed the leaks. Oscar went above and beyond to help us find and install a modern sprinkler monitoring system which is working wonderfully. We love our new front landscape and updated backyard landscape. Even our neighbors have remarked how much they love looking at the new landscape! We highly recommend Artscape! Ben's leadership and creativity in the design are unsurpassed, and Oscar and Melvin's plan execution produced a beautiful landscape which we will enjoy for years to come.

He stripped the sod, made some minor grading adjustments and checked the sprinklers. New sod laid down and and all looked good. Still have what looks like multiple types of grass, none of which was in the lawn before the start of the project. Original lawn grass was all Bermuda. Update June 1st 2026. So it's about a year and a half since the redo and things are not looking that great. Despite doing some extra hand watering, spreading some Scotts Lawn fertilizer a few times the lawn is fading away. In some places the grass is completely gone from the base dirt it was part of. The bare spots seen in the pics are dried out, almost like cement, despite plenty of automatic watering and additional hand watering. In 50 years I've done this lawn three times myself. I guess I'm going to do it again myself! The latest pics.

Jonathan and team completely transformed our backyard in under a month. They installed a new lawn, TimberTech deck, native plants, irrigation and drainage, lighting, and tied our existing front-yard irrigation into the new system. The design process was easy and affordable, and Jonathan was on site every day. He was communicative, thoughtful, and paid attention to the little details throughout the project. The whole crew was great to have around and kept everything clean at the end of each day. They even did a thorough final cleanup of the windows and doors around the yard. What we appreciated most was that their care didn't stop once the project was finished. They came back to fix a faulty sprinkler head and later trenched along the grass by the deck when we realized skunks were trying to get underneath. We love how the backyard turned out and how much more we actually use the space now. We'd absolutely recommend Herencia and happily work with Jonathan and team again.

What stood out most was his communication and transparency. He provided daily updates, either by text or in person, walking me through the progress and explaining what was coming next, which gave me a lot of confidence throughout the project. I also really appreciated his fantastic customer service and follow-through. For example, the game light I purchased arrived broken from the manufacturer, and Jonathan came back promptly after the project was finished to install the replacement once it arrived. The entire project took about a week, and the final result exceeded my expectations. The court and surrounding landscaping look amazing, drain properly, and have completely transformed our backyard.
