Rockwell's did the cake for our wedding at The French Estate. We enjoyed their cake so much at our tasting that we ate the entire plate of cake and frosting samples. We ended up ordering cupcakes and a six inch round cake so we had something to cut into. We used jewel shaped edible stones to add a little detail on to the ivory colored buttercream frosting. It turned out beautiful and we got a lot of compliments not just on the presentation, but on how they tasted as well. If you do go with cupcakes, I recommend finding a cake stand on your own. They charge $150 just to rent the stand. I was able to find a cardboard stand on cupcaketree.com. My mother-in-law spray painted it ivory and put ribbon along all the edges - you couldn't even tell it was cardboard! It easily held 130 cupcakes. My only disappointment with Rockwell's is that we ordered three flavors of cupcakes - red velvet, white and carrot - and we only received two of the three flavors. A little bit of a bummer especially when I'd been telling people that we would have three different flavors to choose from! Other than this, I'm glad we selected them to do our wedding. read more

I'm trying to count how many cakes I've ordered from this place over the years...my own wedding cake, my wedding shower and baby shower cake, cupcakes for my sister-in-law's shower, my other baby shower (from the other location in Buena Park which was total crap) and all three of my son's birthdays. You could say I like the cake. Here's the kicker though. The woman who planned my wedding no longer uses them because their service sucks. This is a huge problem for me because I have the utmost respect for her and the service standards she provides for all of her brides. I was crushed to hear this. She said that they only do wedding tastings at certain times, and only allow you to spend about 10 minutes doing the tasting. 10 Minutes!? To pick the most important cake of your life? Yipe! I just got my son's birthday cake from there last weekend, and I do love their cake and especially the frosting, although I'd be pissed too if I had the same ribbon issue as poor Vanessa. Many people at the birthday party complimented the cake and said they normally don't eat birthday cake since it's so horrible, but that ours was really fantastic. Bottom line with me is that I've had pretty good luck with them, but I've heard horror stories from other people and I'm not sure that I'd be AS quick to recommend them next time. We used Rockwell's for our December 2007 wedding. We were able to make changes to the design up until 10 days before the wedding, which we did. Fortunately, everything came out perfectly. We used a 2" green ribbon at the base of each layer of the 4 layer cake and (I don't know how) it looked so crisp, even when stuck to frosting. We had white cake with raspberry filling for 2 layers and chocolate with raspberry for the other 2 layers. All were delicious. I also purchased a birthday cake for my grandmother, who was celebrating her birthday the same day as the wedding. They gave me a discounted price and delivered it to the venue with our wedding cake. It was a beautiful birthday cake - it even made my grandmother cry! It had a lot of sugary frosting on it, so if this type of birthday cake is not for those who hate sugar. I never worried about a thing with them since they worked directly with our reception coordinator. Everything showed up on time and looked beautiful. We froze our cake topper by wrapping it in plastic wrap several directions and then covering it in foil. One year later it was still as tasty as on our wedding day. However, if you don't want to take up the freezer space, they give you a complimentary cake on your anniversary that is big enough to share with at least 8 adults. read more

When I called to ask questions in regards to place an order, manager sounded like a B since the beginning, definitely needs to work on her customer service, like big time. I needed a cake for my baby shower so I still placed an order. I had placed an order for my baby shower to pick up on a Saturday. Later on, Unfortunately a family member passed away so I had to cancel my baby shower. We had given a $100 deposit for the cake. I called on Wednesday to ask her if we can either have store credit or just buy a cake with the deposit money. Just wanted to see if She would work with us since we can't cancel. So Wednesday I text her, left a VM, my husband even called left a VM and nothing. No call back from her. Then Friday came we called, since she didn't take the courtesy to call us or nothing. Bluntly she said no she can't give us the deposit back, can't accommodate or nothing. That they were making the cake as we speak. What a bunch of BS. And that's sad they don't make the cake fresh, they make the cakes a day before the event. Well we called our bank got our money back. Oh one more thing very very pricey. I ordered a cake with not a lot of decorations it was almost plain so it wouldn't cost a lot she was charging $200. Definitely go somewhere else. read more

Ordered from Creative Cakes through a Dave & Buster's. We had a birthday event at D&B's and Creative is a preferred vendor. As D&B acted as the liaison, all I could do was give a description of what I wanted and included an image reference. We ordered a 12x12" square. The pricelist said this would serve about 50-55 people and it easily did. It was a two-layer marble cake with chocolate icing. The cake arrived looking better than what I imagined. The design was clean and simple, but very accurate. (My son is a fan of the Marvel comic "Deadpool", so I asked for Deadpool's mask on the cake). I was too busy running around to stop and taste the cake, but everyone said it was really good and asked who made it. My son is not even a fan of cake, but finished it because he said he thought it was an ice cream cake. I think that speaks to the moisture & richness and now I wish I had stolen a slice for myself. Our 1 year complimentary anniversary cake was huge, big enough to share with our family. Covered in white chocolate with lemon cake and Bavarian cream, our anniversary cake was even more moist and delicious than our wedding cake, boasting several layers of deliciousness. However it's not just delectable cake that makes this place great, the customer service provided by creative cakes OC is amongst the best I've ever experienced. My wife and I were not going to be in town for our anniversary so not only did they allow us to get our free anniversary cake a week early, but they did so with only a couple days notice and on a holiday weekend. A friend/co-worker of mine orders cakes from Rockwell's all the time and so it was fitting that for her birthday, my co-workers and I would concoct a scheme to get her a delicious cake from there. The kicker is that aside from all the frou-frou wedding/anniversary and cakes that you can pick up directly from the bakery, you can pre-order cakes using any photos you send them. We've sent them photos of some of our boss' favorite shoes before and they have figured out ways to make it appear on the cake. So, for this cake - we made it extra special - my friend is a HUGE Twilight fan, and so we Photoshopped her face into a Twilight poster and then sent the photo off to Rockwell's to work their magic. The cake came out great! We chose the red velvet with a buttercream filling and right there, on the face of the cake was her face plastered next to Robert Pattinson/Edward Cullen from Twilight (and completely edible) - it was priceless! The cake was large enough to feed more than 10 people too. So if you don't want your run-of-the-mill cake, be sure to go to Rockwell's and customize your cake - you won't be disappointed by their talent, professionalism and the taste! read more

Thought that I would give this place a chance it has so many good reviews. This place really needs to hire more people for the front since it seems like they get a lot of appointments for wedding cakes. Obviously they were a bigger priority than lil old me who's here to design a birthday cake. Service was decent when you finally get they're attention. The girl I had was helpful and nice enough to give me a sample tray. I got a hexagon cake with a candyland theme with 3 fondant lollipop decoration since I have lollipop candles for myself. Cake was very good and moist. What I didn't like about the sample tray is that the cake and filling were separate. I prefer them having their own cake creation first. But either way I opted for a chocolate cake with raspberry jam and Bavarian cream with vanilla buttercream. When I got my cake, I was pretty disappointed in the outlook and the service. Took about 10 mins to notice me and be able to give me the cake. The bottom looked perfect since I told them I wanted the colors of the gameboard pieces only (secondary and primary colors) but when I look at the top, it was neon colored fondant decorations! It didn't even match. It wasn't even a pretty mess; just a mess. I also saw a bunch of cracks in the lollipops. -.- You would they could at least keep to the color scheme. I would have been able to look the other way if it were just cracks. I am too embarrass to actually take a picture of it or send the cake home with people because of the way it looked. The taste of the cake was amazing though so I'll give them credit fir that. For $50 for just the cake. $15 for the fondant lollipops and $10 for additional decoration. $75 wasn't bad at all if they had made the colors right. I would give them another chance though since the cake was delicious but be conscious about your cake design. read more

I stopped in to get a cake for my friend's bday. Picked out a medium sized one, had them ice on "happy birthday old fart!", paid 45, and took it home. I forget which filling we got, but the cake was pretty good. Everyone ooh'd and ahh'd just looking at it and then quickly devoured their piece. Got lots of compliments for the appearance and taste. Just a heads up, the cake was really tall and the lid couldn't close completely without crushing the strawberries first. Also, the cake had to be kept cold so I wouldn't recommend driving the cake around in a car w/o A/C. Good luck cutting the cake yourself. Holy gee! We ordered our wedding cake and Grooms Cake from Rockwells, both cakes were excellent! Obviously people look for many different things when choosing a cake for their wedding. For the most part Rockwell's makes your traditional wedding cake, and that's what we ordered. However, let me tell you the butter cream they use is nothing I've ever tasted! There is something they put in that frosting that keeps you coming back for more. The inside of our wedding cake was red velvet, which was so moist and yummy. And, what was so wonderful is the cake didn't crumble we ate it-many red velvet cakes crumble when you eat it. The grooms cake was fabulous tasting. The lemon cake tasted like real lemons, and I saw shavings of lemons in the cake dough. And, again the frosting was to die for. I found this place thru my boss. And I decided to give it a try and see if its worth it. Ordering was real simple I went into the shop. Clean well maintained. And cake models thru out and they were awesome looking. I got a list of the size and prices and adding on anything is an extra charge. I got an 8" round chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling for my sons 4th birthday. I showed them the Cake I wanted on my phone and to be honest when I picked it up I wasn't expecting it to be that great looking. But to my surprise with the risk I took the cake was amazing from the inside out! Perfectly decorated. Tasted great. I was very impressed. They let you pay half up front and the rest on day of pick up. I paid 75. A little pricey. But worth it. My cake fed 20 people. And everyone loved it. Not only would they do the cake flavor and filling we wanted they had several additional options the previous vendor did not have. The vendor going out of business was really a blessing. We chose to go with Creative Cakes for a couple of reasons. They honored our appointment. We didn't have to wait for a table, unlike at Cinderella Cakes (another place we were considering), where we had to wait awhile until a table was available for us. It felt more like a first come first serve kind of deal, rather than an appointment with Cinderella Cakes. We also felt like Creative Cakes was a classier place. For their cake tasting, they had us sample 5-6 (each) of cakes, fillings and icings, and all of these were nicely placed on a rectangular glass plate. Unlike Cinderella Cakes where they gave us one paper plate with just a few samples on it. They really didn't make much of an effort to get us to go with them. For our wedding cake, we decided to just go with a simple 4 tier ivory cake. We didn't want fondant icing all over the entire 4 tiers, but we did have them add some fondant draping on each tier. Since all of the icing wasn't fondant, we thought the icing wouldn't be very smooth, however on the day of our wedding, we were so impressed with how the cake came out. The icing was so smooth it looked like fondant! With the glass cylinder stands and fresh flowers our florist provided, our cake looked so beautiful! Many guests said our cake looked amazing, and they also said the cake was as delicious as it looked. I ordered a specially designed cake with a collection of photos of pop culture things from the year I was born. I met with Cheryl at Creative cakes and she worked with me on the design. She suggested some decorative enhancements for each photo. I told her I would trust them to do whatever they thought best. The cake turned out fabulously! All of the images were perfect. The enhancements were great and perfectly matched the theme of each photo. Everyone (the guests as well as the staff at the restaurant where I had the cake delivered) was impressed. Ordered a cake for my law school graduation party. I wanted a perfect cake like the ones I had seen on Pinterest. I came in with a picture of law book cakes and they knew exactly what I wanted. They had a sample of Grad cakes that I was able to look through. They were patient when I kept going back and forth with flavors, and made sure everything was spelled correctly.
