As I started contacting bakeries, I discovered most need a minimum 6 weeks lead time, some 3 months. Panic set in. Cheryll at Creative Cakes talked me off the ledge right away. She promised they could make my cake and deliver in time for the party at the Newport Beach Yacht Club. She was super helpful on the design. Their instagram has great content/examples of their work. She was especially helpful in what size cake I needed and flavors. On her advice we settled on one large sheet cake and two personalized cakes for the birthday boys so they could blow out their own candles. It was absolutely perfect. We tried out Creative Cakes based on a recommendation from a friend of mines. They are located in Old Town Orange in a small strip of stores. Google maps will get you lost. In fact I think it brought us to their new location that is still being build. So we were a tad late, but it wasn't an issue. The way the shop is set up looks like at least 3 or 4 tastings go on at the same time. And when you walk in there are displays of cakes and designs. This is useful for the couples that have no idea what they want. They give you such a wide variety of samples. We enjoyed the chocolate with chocolate chip, white with bavarian cream with raspberry jam, and the lemon with raspberry mousse. Another cool thing is they do offer you an anniversary cake, included in the price. Overall they are reasonably priced ($4-6 per serving), and 50% off a delivery discount if you sign with them within 1 week from your tasting. And they do take credit card. Deposit is $200, final balance due 21 days before the event. Still one to consider for the budgeting bride. read more

Trust me I really want to LOVE this place but after 2 bad experiences I just can't. First of all I would give 5 stars for the appearance since they always do a great job on the outside, but cakes are meant to be eaten so it's all about the inside! Strike one: our gender reveal cake...they nailed the outside perfectly but when we cut into the cake with 30 of our closest friends and family we could not even tell the gender! They were suppose to put either "blue" or "pink" frosting so one would think it would be pretty obvious. Nope! Talk about anti-climatic. And no it had nothing to do with how we cut it (since I anticipate that might be a response based on other reviews!). We had to check the ultrasound to make sure it was a boy. I gave them another chance about a week or so ago for our baptism cake. We ordered marble with fudge in the middle. What we got was fudge with barely any cake. The fudge filling was thicker than the cake! Everyone commented that the cake they could actually taste was delicious. Everyone's plates were filled with chunks of fudge. However, when it came time for the tasting I was definitely sure that our venue partnered with this bakery for a good reason! Our cake not only looked good but tasted way out of this world delicious!! Grace arrived at our cake tasting armed with samples of cakes as well as samples of fillings and buttercream. The buttercream is to DIE FOR! I actually requested an extra serving of buttercream by my slice of cake, that is how much I loved it. Truly good buttercream is a little firm with a slight crunch from the sugar. The fillings that were provided were so flavorful and smooth we had a hard time choosing our fillings. We went with a chocolate cake with strawberry, banana and espresso fillings. Our cake was simple in design so we could add our own flowers to it. There is such an amazing feeling from seeing a cake in photos to seeing the cake in person. It looked exactly like the photo example provided. Honestly when I saw the cake for the first time I was so excited to get to cut into the cake and eat it. During the cake cutting our DJ said "The bride feeds the groom. The groom feeds the bride. Aaaaaaand, the bride feeds herself." I was just that excited for cake. We took our top tier home. I know traditionally people freeze them to save for their anniversary, but we took our cake home to eat right away! I had been working with Creative Cakes for years when I was an event planner. I always thought they were delicious and gorgeous to boot. In the past I ordered cakes for a family anniversary, and when a girlfriend got engaged I sent her here as well. They were all very good and I was almost swayed to have cookies & cream filling but the lemon was TOO good. I had known since I was a little girl that I wanted a red velvet wedding cake. Because our guest count was small by OC wedding standards we would get a three tier, round cake so we picked red velvet with cream cheese filling for 2 tiers and the final would be lemon and Bavarian cream. My best friend's favorite tv show is HBO's "Game of Thrones" and I was looking for a bakery that could handle that theme. Cheryll, the designer, was extremely helpful and professional from my first contact with her. She answered all of my questions (and I had a lot) in a timely manner. She was also very enthusiastic about my request! The day of delivery I was nervous about everything since I asked them to deliver to a local chain restaurant on a Sunday. Yet, the cupcakes arrived early (better than on time) and were well taken care of by the restaurant staff (shout out to Yardhouse in Brea). When they were brought out to our table everyone was in awe. The house crests were so detailed and beautiful! My alltime favorite cake! I got married a few years ago and I walked into the shop and tried some cake pieces. I didn't like the tasting because the cake and cream were separate in these little plastic cup things. Buuutt... as I was leaving, the one of the shop keepers gave me an entire cake to take home and try. It was white cake, banana cream, with strawberries. It was sooo freakin good, I came back, got my quote and it has been my favorite cake ever since. I have gotten shower and bday cakes here too. There is a Villa Park one that is not the same owner and the cakes at that location is not as yummy. Been there done that. Also, I had mentioned that Cinderella Cakes had a better price and they beat Cinderella's price for me.
