They first gave me my options in terms of design, flavors and their price range [roughly $5 per person]. I wanted simplicity into the cake and have the roses stand out by itself. I visited the Creative Cakes two times before setting a final order. I decided on getting the marbled cake with banana frosting [third layer], carrot cake with cream cheese frosting [second layer], and vanilla cake with white barbarian cream [first layer]. On the day of the party, not only was the delivery on time, but it was better than what I expected. My guests were very pleased with how it turned out and was the star of the night. Part 1 - Background & Wedding Day My husband and I got married at Turnip Rose Promenade & Gardens and as part of our wedding package was a Creative Cakes cake. Thinking back to that night everyone couldn't stop talking about how beautiful the cake was and how delicious the (three-flavored) four-tiered cake! I remembered I tasted Creative Cakes a few years prior at my best friend's wedding at another Turnip Rose location. Maybe I unconsciously chose Turnip Rose because I wanted everyone to try Creative Cakes. I don't know the actual logistics the day of the wedding, but my venue coordinated with Creative Cakes. I didn't have to worry at all. The cake was beyond what I imagined, see photo. Part 2 - Cake Tasting Experience Our cake tasting experience was everything we imagined. Who doesn't love a smorgasbord of various cake flavors and frosting. Making an appointment was easy. Just make sure to schedule ahead. This is a family run business since 1970. The employees were delightful and really had our best interest at heart. We weren't the only couple there tasting cake, but we felt like we were. The attention to detail to their customers really set them apart from other cake places I've been to. They brought us water to cleanse our palate and although we were paralyzed with the choices, the staff gave us suggestions on popular cake combinations. Tips: - I was beyond elated at how the cake turned out. It was gorgeous and delicious. The perfect cake. It was exactly how I imagined because I brought photos of cake designs I liked and the talented cake artists replicated my exact vision. - If you have multiple tiers, feel free to try different flavors for each layer. We did! - We chose Cake: Lemon, Red Velvet, Funfetti(!). Filling: Bavarian Cream, Cream Cheese, Strawberry. Frosting: Homemade Buttercream. From the samples to everyhing, they made it super easy... and now on our 1 year anniversary they offer a free cake... The cake layers were red velvet with cream cheese filling, chocolate with chocolate fudge filling, and lemon with bavarian creme and raspberry filling. Every layer was delicious! Wow! Their vegan cake is the best cake I've ever had, and as a cake snob it takes a lot to impress me. My vegan daughter graduated this summer so I had to find a great vegan cake for her party. MAJOR FAIL. We ordered and a paid a deposit for a cake for our child's birthday party for pick up on Friday, November 29 as indicated in the receipt. However when we show up to pick up on Friday, Nov 29, they are CLOSED. The phone number given goes to voicemail. They did not call during the week to notify us or ask us to pick up on a different day. Up until now they were reliable for several birthday cake orders. Anyway, we're off to Who knows where to buy a cake. (Yeah no stress at all it's only an hour and a half before the party. Paying for 2 cakes but get one, what a bargain! That is a bargain for me.) Creative Cakes, Please align your orders and your hours of operation. Advice to Potential customers, confirm they are open on pick up date and have a back up plan just in case. At least it was paid through credit card and can dispute the charge. Update: long story short, the manager personally went above and beyond to make it right with us. The only thing wrong with my wedding? My cake. I wanted a white chocolate ribbon running down my cake. Of course this ribbon was supposed to match the red color of my wedding. Creative Cakes called and said that the red will be very close, but not exact. I said, "Fine no problem". The ribbon turned out pink. Not only pink, but fluorescent magenta. The tiers were supposed to be squared off, but were rounded. As rounded as the bull nose corners in my HOUSE. A filigree detail looked like chicken scratch. It looked as if a three year old decorated it. It was honestly the ugliest cake I had ever seen at a wedding. Our friends even asked about it later. It was a good thing the rest of the wedding went off beautifully, otherwise this business would have ruined my big day. We told our photographers to delete or throw away all pictures of the cake, and didn't go back for our anniversary topper. My regret is doing the cake cutting at all, and having that monstrosity in sight. Do not use them for any occasion where it is important that your cake be perfect. They won't tell you what they can't do which is often more important that what they CAN. read more

Creative Cakes and Rockwell's Bakery merged to form Creative Cakes by Rockwell's. Confused? Yeah, me too. Don't sweat the history. Do worry about the delicious cakes they bake here and the thousands of calories you will consume from these tasty creations. This place is located in downtown Orange, near the Orange Plaza/Circle. They've got a pretty big facility with a fair-sized showroom that does a good job of showcasing their talents. Creative Cakes by Rockwell's (CCR - not Creedence Clearwater Revival...) is mostly known for their White Chocolate Curl Cake. Let's just say that it looks sinfully delicious. I'm a bit intimidated by the looks of it. Too...scared...to...approach...cake... Anyway, the wife and I found out about this place through our wedding people (The Turnip Rose). CCR had some sort of exclusive deal with our caterers, so we had to go with them...otherwise we'd have to fork up extra cash-money. CCR did a good job about the cake. We gave them a photo of what we wanted, decided on how many guests we had, and they pretty much took care of everything else. All of our wedding guests enjoyed the cake and one particular friend of the family just can't stop talking about how good it was and who made it...leave us alone already!! We had two versions: Marbled chocolate with bavarian creme and white cake with strawberry creme...at least that's the way I remember it. I could be totally wrong and the wife will be upset... You get the idea. CCR does cakes. They come pretty close to that guy on Food Network (Ace of Cakes something or other), but not quite as elaborate or expensive. When we went for a tasting, we had a to wait around for a bit before we were attended to. Then after we were given the tasting plate, we were left alone. Then afterwards we were able to discuss selection and design. I thought they could've engaged with us a bit more. At the tasting, we were actually quite pleased with the 2 flavors we selected. However, when I tasted the cake on our wedding day it tasted a lot sweeter which some of our guests didn't care for. But the wedding cake design itself came out exactly like the picture which I was pleased with. However, my only other criticism is that we had them do a grooms cake for us. It was a playing card screened on a simple sheet cake. When a took a look, the card was crooked and the icing looked a little messy. I spoke to a woman on the phone about a quote on a cake & she asked me to email her the picture and she left me on the phone for more than 10 mins to go pull up the picture , I literally never heard from her again that day . Used Rockwell's for our wedding cake and cupcakes. I had very specific ideas on what I wanted, and was pleased that they were willing to work with me. I ordered a red velvet for the top tier, Neapolitan cupcakes, and a Neapolitan round cake for the base. The Neapolitan idea seemed a little different than they were used to, especially with what I wanted to do with the cupcakes. I wanted chocolate w/ vanilla frosting, and vanilla w/ chocolate frosting, both filled with a strawberry filling. They were a little reluctant at my request since they have never filled a cupcake before, but were willing to try. They actually did a sample for me at the tasting and it was perfect. The filling even had little pieces of actual strawberry in it. We were so busy at the reception that all my husband and I got to try was the first bite of our red velvet cake, and I had a cupcake. The red velvet was absolutely delicious, and we mourned not being able to have more of it that night. The Neapolitan cake (which was one layer of chocolate cake, one layer of white cake, with strawberry inbetween) was all eaten up and we got great reviews on it from our guests. I had to take off a star because, although the cupcakes were also delicious and a big hit with kids and adults alike, there was just about no strawberry filling. It was like someone took a needle to inject a sliver of strawberry -- just enough to know something was supposed to be in there and feel like you were missing out. I was bummed because I was telling our friends of the special treat they were getting inside the cupcakes. But overall, they were great to work with. All the cake was delicious and it looked great.
