For xmas I treated my boyfriend to a wheel throwing class, though I wasn't sure what to expect. It was just the two of us and our instructor, Mara, who was awesome! It wasn't specified on the website, but the class was on how to make a bowl. While there was very little creative leeway, it was a great learning experience, even for someone with a little wheel experience. I was so excited to take my daughter here, and the did not disappoint! Our first visit, we painted plates, and had such a relaxing and fun time! They have everything set up and organized so you can go in, pick up the paints and the piece you want to paint, and just paint away leisurely. I could spend all day their painting, if my wallet was bigger. I do think they should move the one row of tables away from the shelving of pre-painted pottery. Too tight of a space to sit people at the table AND have people choose their pieces. Too many times, I was anxious about us bumping into people and breaking pottery at the same time. We prefer sitting at the farthest round tables, away from any chance of breaking anything or bumping painters. That is my only complaint though. It's such a great and affordable activity! read more

I love going to the Creative Arts Studio when I need wedding gifts. They do such an amazing job there. I have gone in multiple times with a vision of what I want and they are able to create it for me at a reasonable cost. My only complaint is that one time they broke one of my items in the kiln and they never contacted me to alert me of this issue. It wasn't until two months later when I called that I was told the project was destroyed and needed to be refunded. However I have been there a million times and that is the only issue I have had. read more

Is it impossible to have too high expectations from a creative arts studio? Like I expected space to move about (like in the website photos), time on the table that was longer than an hour (for the $8 sitting fee), pay between $30 to 45 dollars for small pieces of pottery made from common clay, time shortened because of early closing time with closing time on the website showing at 8pm, a little friendliness from studio staff who claimed to be kid-friendy but were barely civil to a group of adults, and at least half-full bottle of paint to use so that I didn't have to struggle with mixing colors to achieve the color I ran out of...but oops, it really didn't matter. Didn't have time to finish. But I can joyfully return to finish at only one-half the regular sitting fee. Yeah, like I'm going to do that. read more

This place is great! I've done pottery painting here for years with myself or a few other people. Most recently I went with a work group and they were AMAZING. The owner came out and was supper helpful to all the first timers and everything about pottery painting is a blast. Can't wait to go back in a week and see how our projects turned out. This is a great place to have a party or bring your kid or younger sibling/niece etc. I would first recommend parking in the structure on Center and 4th. This structure is free for the first two hours and is right by the studio. You'll walk in and someone at the front will greet you and ask if you have been there before. If not they will walk you through the different projects. No reservation is needed if it's just a few of you. If it is a large group I would recommend calling ahead and getting your own private room in the back. (If you have made reservations you can also turn it into a craft and pour and bring your own adult beverages). Different projects include, the most popular, the paining the pottery, then there is beading, and a grouting project and a glass project. Both times I visited the studio I opted for the pottery paining. They have a wide selection of things you can paint, and practical items too like serving dishes, salt shakers, piggy banks, platter dishes, vases, figurines, mugs, martini glasses... the list goes on and on.If you decide to paint the pottery this project has a 1 week turn around time. If you're looking to leave the studio with a project then choose the beading or the grouting project (even though I strongly recommend the painting). The staff is very helpful and patient with questions and the prices aren't expensive. Great for a snowy cold day!! read more

So Im part of the big brother/big sister program and am constantly trying to think of new and exciting activities for us to do. This was one of the most fun experiences that we shared together, not only was she excited to pick out a piece to paint but she was somewhat overwhelmed by all the choices that they had. The staff was so friendly, accommodating, and willing to help with anything you need. Creative Arts Studio is clean and so colorful, definitely beautiful place for children to go, and for adults to have fun also. But don't be fooled by the inviting atmosphere this place can be a little on the pricey side with a studio fee of 8 dollars for adults and 6 dollars for children, and most pieces ranging from 15-80 things can begin to add up. First time here and had a blast with my mom and niece. I wasn't anticipating the cost of the pottery pieces (39 and 24) but that's my fault. I was little bit unimpressed by the lack of help from the staff. Its not that they didn't help when you asked, but it was like you were bothering them when you asked. They also didnt do the best job explaining what to do to walk in customers. I'll go back because it was super fun, but I hope they get some more oitgoing folksbto help the walk in customers. Good: Release your creative juices in a cool, relaxed environment. Lots of different pre-made pottery pieces ready for your paintbrush. Adult hours from 6-10 on Saturday make for a fun girls/couples night with wine and snacks. Bad: Staff is virtually non responsive - you'll have to scream for them to get you bowls of water, other paintbrushes, etc. Can't get around it - parking sucks. Website stinks. My man and I decided to drop in for a little arts and crafts; mosaic tile was the activity of choice. It's one of the arts you can do, in a walk-in basis (clay throwing and a few other activities require scheduling in advance). The studio is nice and bright, although a might cramped, and tile colors and textures seemed scarce, which I'll chalk up to it being a busy day. The templates they had for that mosaic are pretty diverse, and are a bit pricey, but that is the cost you pay to create a masterpiece! Sadly, my masterpiece looks more like something a third-grader would do...better. And this was planning my design for 3 hours At least I finally finished. read more

I really wanted to love this place, but it's too chaotic for me. I took a six week throwing class. During this time we had a sub instructor twice, this made learning in a short time frame very difficult. We would get different instruction on throwing depending on who was teaching which made it kind of confusing. It was also frustrating not having a syllabus that went over what you would be learning each lesson so we never knew what to expect. The instructors didn't do a great job of communicating so they were never sure what we had learned form the previous week. I also didn't love how cramped the space was. You are really on top of one another which isn't ideal. To add to the cramped space issue it is also extremely disorganized. There are supplies and finished projects everywhere. I had a piece that I finished glazing during my last class. When I came back to pick it up I found out that it had been moved by someone and ended up chipped and with a hole in the bottom (still unsure how that occurred). Things happen and pieces get broken, so it's not that big of a deal, but I think it could have been avoided if they were more organized. The staff working when I came in to pick up my last piece were very apologetic and said I could come back in and use the rest of my leftover clay to make a new piece. However, I think I will be looking elsewhere for my next pottery class. read more

So my friend and I were looking for a birthday present for our roomie. We tried to go to the new store that opened next door to this place, Bohemian Rhapsody, but it was closed for some reason. I'm not sure why we ended up walking into the Creative Arts Studio (neither of us had even heard of the place), but I'm so happy we did. Not only did we find the perfect present, a gorgeous, unique, and not too expensive jeweled bangle, but we saw tons of other jewelry (and other goodies) we fell in love with. Mostly we were drawn to the earrings. They have pair after pair after pair of earrings, in all different colors, shapes, and sizes. Most of them sparkle real pretty. We're both on a limited shopping budget, so the only purchase made other than the beautiful bangle was a ring I bought to match my New Year's Eve dress (the PERFECT ring to match it in fact). Anyway, there were people whom I'm sure were creating some sort of art at the many tables set up, but all I can speak to is the beautiful merchandise I stared at forever. I'd probably give this place 5 stars if I knew more about the rest of the it. Before going here I had only painted pottery once in my life. That was in a 9th grade art class that wasn't fun at all. This here is very fun. The atmosphere is very chill and laid back. The employees were very nice and helpful in explaining everything. I Just was looking for something cool and different to do with the family. The kids had fun. I really enjoyed myself. Great place to go with your kids, on a date, or even by yourself. The only knock on this place is the pricing on the pottery kind of on the pricey side. But if your taking the little ones, a girlfriend or wife its well worth it. I haven't been in a year though hope they have new selections. read more

Went on Saturday with the kids to celebrate a birthday (girls ages 8 and 6). The staff was great! I told them it was our first time there and they were great about explaining everything and making recommendations. As the girls were painting their ceramic pieces the staff came around and really interacted with them and encouraged them. We were there close to 3 hours and the kids were entertained the entire time. I had fun too, but I really enjoyed how much fun the girls were having with it all. With Christmas coming up the girls wanted to do the wax hands as a gift for daddy. After we finished painting we did the wax hands. Not as exciting as the painting but its a simple 3 minute process so its not going to be as fun as the painting. But the young man who helped the girls was amazing. Super excited to be helping them and seemed to know how to interact with kids of their ages. It was a really great experience especially on a gloomy day. The girls are now counting down the days to pick up our pieces. You can pick up your ceramic pieces 1 week after you finish them. The wax hands you can take home the same day. Some yelpers have said its pricey, but its all in what you want to do and what pieces you chose. Its a flat rate of $6 per kid and $8 per adult as a studio fee plus the cost of whatever piece you chose to paint. Since we were celebrating a birthday I didn't give the girls a budget. Each piece they both picked $30 items and I picked a $20 one. The wax hands were $8 each. So with tax my total bill was $114. But as I said it could have been a lot cheaper if I told them they had a price limit, the prices are very clearly marked on the shelves. However, it was worth every penny to have some bonding time with them while daddy got the house to himself to watch football. I paid $185.00 to take a Wheel Throwing class for 6 weeks. The reason for taking this class was to help me with my depression. The beginning of my class started out great my teacher was Ellen and I made a few good pieces, but depression took over again and on top of that I had another death in my family. I called location to see if I could restart in another class and I was advised by store manager MITCH that I would have to pay $60.00 on top of the $185.00 that I already paid to complete the class. I don't believe that is a fair. So if you pay for a class make sure you take it when scheduled because they will not compromise with you in any situation. If you need somewhere indoors to take your kids- this is it!!! Choose whatever ceramic sculpture your child (or you) wants to paint! They also have mosaic crafts and pottery! You can throw a private birthday here too. Parking is only a couple blocks away if the streets are full. The only negative is that it can get pretty pricey! Even after you have chosen your sculpture to paint, each painter is charged an $8 painting fee--- I think this is ridiculous since the sculptures are already not cheap. But the quality of them and the casting is all perfect so I'm not gonna complain for too long... see you again soon! read more

Great place to bring a date! I've only done pottery painting, but I believe they have other activities available as well. There's a parking structure nearby so don't worry about finding a spot in the cramped area in front of the shop. You pay around $8 (I think) as a usage fee (includes all the paint and a glaze when finished) and then whatever the cost of the piece you choose to paint. The items you paint can be pricey! I usually go with something on the smaller side like a mug. Very kid friendly, so if you're not coming with children I'd recommend going in the evening. read more

We came in on a Saturday afternoon and got a table and spent the next four hour making mosaics!! I took a mosaic class at the Creative Arts Studio from Ruth T. She is an amazing teacher, and really knows her stuff. The class met three times, and we could come in on our own to work in between classes. It was a little pricey, but worth it. I have also come in a few times to paint things and have them glazed. Again, it is a little pricey, but a really good time. I love that you can bring in snacks or a bottle of wine with friends while you paint. A great place for parties! read more

I love creative arts studio! I like the variety of creative options, from mosaics to glass fusing to painting pottery. Glass fusing is the only class I've taken, but I was very pleased with it. My girlfriends and I have spent countless afternoons or evenings there, usually to celebrate birthdays or other special occasions. I love being able to take wine on Saturday nights. My husband and I sometimes do date nights there, and take a bottle of wine to enjoy while we paint pottery :) I love the selection of pottery pieces and glazes, as well as mosaics and glasses for fusing (though I have noticed limited colors at times, in terms of glass pieces and rods). The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the space is very cramped at times (though I presume this is in order to accommodate everyone - I have been in there when it's packed, with virtually every chair filled). During busy days/evenings it can feel a bit understaffed. It also seems as though the studio could use more dedicated space for storage of finished works (prior to firing), as the tables near the kiln room are sometimes completely covered with pieces for firing. Grab your friends or your sweetheart and check it out for yourself - I'm sure you'll have a wonderful experience!!! read more

It may be a little on the kitchy (sp?) side. But if you want to paint something that is very unique and don't want to pay $6/hr to sit and paint, this is the place to go. At the end of your session whether it is for half an hour or 3 hours, you pay the $8 studio fee on top of the pieces you paint. The pieces range from $2.50/piece to upwards of $10/piece. They also have a pottery studio area. I haven't tried that yet. But it is worth it to try out the place and be able to give that someone special something that is very unique. read more

The only reason I gave two stars instead of one is because I took the classes with my daughter and we have fun no matter what. It may be great if you are going to paint a piece that has already been made from a mold, but if you are going to seriously learn how to build your own piece, specifically Raku, don't bother. We were very disappointed in that we felt we knew more than the teacher after a few classes. Most of our questions were answered with , "I don't know". Let me preface my 2 stars by saying that my rating is purely based on my experience with my daughter's 6th birthday party and not the place itself (because the place is darling with the exception of no place to park). In April I wandered into CAS with my kids for a spring break activity and my kids were amazingly engaged for 2 hours picking out paints, layering on their materials, and doing finishing touches. We had a great time painting a Dragon, a Fairy and a Frog. I thought what a delightful idea for a birthday party. Fast forward to May 10th. The place was empty and there were 2 ladies working. Noone asked to help me with any of the party decorating preparations (or even carrying all the set up supplies from around the corner into the studio) The girl assigned to my daughter's party literally spend 10-15 minutes tops overseeing the party (of 12 girls all age 6). I was losing my mind trying to engage and help 12 6 year olds all at the same time. When you go to Bounce U or Troy Gymnastics, they assign you a person who stays with you the entire time. They distribute food, gifts, help clean up. Its a one stop shop. I basically paid $275.00 for some pottery and a place for the kids to sit. NOT IMPRESSED and WOULD NEVER recommend a party at this place. Grown ups sure. Take the kids in for a project, no problem. PARTY...never again. read more

I'm such a arts & crafts type person, so I was very delighted to visit this store for the first time. Not only does this place sell beautiful jewelry, frames, pottery, etc..., but they also offer various courses and workshops. While I was there, a woman and her child were designing a couple of frames. They also have glass fusing & stumping workshops, mosaic art workshops, wheel-throwing workshops and pottery painting workshops...amongst other things. The cost of the workshops vary, so I would check their website for more information. I definitely see myself coming back here during the winter time, so I can busy myself with something fun. read more

This is a really neat place. It's good for kids and adults. I had a ladies night there and we were able to rent a private room (with a reasonable deposit that ends up going towards our art projects) and we were able to order pizza and drink wine. Very friendly staff. read more
