Then another employee came up and scolded me and told me I couldn't get that paint and I needed to ask. Then the same employee kept coming up to me to tell me I was painting my plate wrong. Fun simple place to paint and chat. They closed at 5pm and we got in at 3:30 but I wish we came in earlier as you do have to paint many layers and always takes longer than you think it will. I reserved a time slot to paint for Saturday afternoon with my adult daughters. I would say it's a very disappointing selection of items on hand to paint, and limited options for decorator tools. The environment was not any place I'd ever visit again, no background music to listen to. We can have life fun for free literally anywhere else. There are too many competitors locally in this category that offer friendlier interactions with staff, better price points that allow you to paint your piece to completion, and a better variety of tools and paints to do it with. read more

My aunt hosted my little cousin's 6th birthday party here over the weekend and it was delightful! About 10 little girls came in their best princess duds and they had their choice of 4 pieces (pre-picked by the birthday girl--two ceramic cats, a mouse, and heart jewelry box) to paint. Paint and brushes and all that were provided and the firing and glazing was also included in the price of the party. After painting they got to keep the table and the fam could bring in their own food to eat and enjoy (they brought in pizza from Pizza Cutter down the street and my aunt made cupcakes). It definitely helped keep the cost down and helps if you have picky kids who have one idea of what they want at their birthday party. Next up? Presents! There was a couch near their table where my cousin was able to sit and open all her gifts in a comfortable, relaxed environment. One thing I loved? Behind the couch was a wall full of little painted bees. Upon further investigation I saw that the bees were actually thumbprints of all the kids that had celebrated birthdays there. Miss Olivia's yellow print was up on the wall ready to get some stripes and her name in paint. She found that SO cool and so did I. She'll see it every time she goes in there now. So nice! The place isn't fancy. It's been a while since it's seen some upgrades but it doesn't need bells and whistles. It's comfy and cozy, all corners stocked with paints and pottery, little nooks filled with supplies. It just lends itself to creativity and you're not afraid of making a mess because it's not a sterile environment. The girls working here were unbelievably kind and helpful. They cleaned up everything with a quickness and even told us to stop tidying because that was their job! It made running a small birthday party painless. In the end the party was about 2 hours long from start to finish. If you're not hosting a party you can drop in any time during business hours and choose from their selection of ceramics to paint. Prices are about $8 an hour ($4 for a group that makes reservations at least 24 hours in advance) and include the paint, glazing, and firing. The only thing not included is the piece you choose, those are all priced individually. As I mentioned, drop in is available but you can also make a reservation with them to save a space--from a group of 2 to a group of 20. I didn't see anyone do it but they also offer glass fusing, mosaics, silver clay, acrylic canvas painting, and hand building with clay. We did a ladies night out last Friday. We went for dinner and then The Bees Knees for pottery painting. We had a great time. They were short staffed so it got a little crazy at first but the ladies were very helpful. We got out pieces back yesterday. EVERYONE wants to go back and do it again! Good place I got there we had a nice welcome but we waiter for our girl to be done glazing the inside of mine for about 20minutes and then I got mine started painting the outside and then are girl disappeared for about 10minutes then the other girl who I asked to help us gave us a slight attitude and when we sat down right when we got there 5minutes later the birthday party was going on so a couple girls just started screaming out of no where plus the birthday party was actually the owner or managers daughter so they were getting a lot more attention and even though I did it before they thought that I would remember. I just think if you need to do pottery then yes go here but just be prepared for the waiting time so schedule for like 10:00 to 3:30 cuss oh lord you get a lot of pressure if you go there from 10:00 to 1:30 cuss that was my time. I've been here a few times during their Friday night girls' night. It's a lot of fun for something different to do with your friends! You can bring in your own food and beverages, stake out a table for your group and get to work. You pick out what you want to paint, and if you see a technique you want to try, the staff will show you how it's done. There are lots of books for ideas. The only things I don't like when I go here are that a) I have a really hard time picking something to paint, which leads to b) I usually get something I'll never realistically use, but I feel bad getting rid of, since I painted it with something special in mind. Even with that dilemma, the fun is always worth the hassle of ending up with one more knick-knack I really don't need. read more

I took my grandchild and friends here to informally celebrate her birthday. The four of us made a reservation two days in advance and showed up with our painting clothes on. The kids picked out two mugs, and a plate to paint and fire. I picked out two coral statues, one with drilled pinholes for light to shine through. You pay for the art items plus a studio fee that covers paint, stamps, pens, sponges, and assistance. My total for 3.0 hours of studio time (2 sessions) and the five pottery items was $137.00. That's more than $25 per completed item, so you are making memories. The kids had a blast, and finished during two 1.5 hour work sessions. A week after painting the completed fired treasures were ready for pickup. They looked even better fired. My reason for the lower score is that many of the brushes were scruffy and substandard. No turning wheels. No tracing paper to mark items with artwork or pictures. I felt rushed in the few hours I could get in the studio and had to speed paint. It wasn't pretty. My former studio would have charged about $90 to make and fire the same 5 items. They had quality brushes, stamps, pens, tracing paper and writing pens and longer work times were allowed. The Bee's knees supplies were minimal and worn. This is a fun place, but I would bring my own brushes if I had them, especially fine ones. Bring your own stencils and tracing paper if you use them. Time is limited so know what you might want to work on! I spent 30 minutes getting a writing pen to work. .. with help from staff. Would I come back again .. yes .. it is fun. I would come a little better prepared and plan my 1.5 hours carefully. read more

I used to love going here, but this time I feel their desire to support the customer was subpar. We had a large group and spent a lot of money. Asked to have only three ready for pick up six days later and they thought they could but they didn't pull through and when asked they couldn't give us any idea when they would be done. Had we known, we wouldn't have done it in the 1st place. In addition they gave us a 10 minute to close and pushed us out. Brought my 5 year old son here for some fun mother - son bonding time. We waited a few minutes to catch someone's attention who worked there and they told us to pick out the ceramic pieces we would like to paint. There was an okay amount of ceramics to pick from, lots of larger choices, we were looking for something small to medium size. My son and I picked out our pieces and it took a few more minutes to have someone help us put our colors in the paint tray. One of the people who worked there gave us the run down on the best way to paint our pieces. We had a nice time painting, and I thought the person showing us everything said they would touch up our pieces if things didn't look even before they put it in the kiln. We were told that the pieces would be ready in a week. The whole thing ended up being on the expensive side, $8/hr per person and $8.50 for each piece that was painted. We ended up spending about $30 total for the whole hour. We came back today to pick up our pieces, there was some confusion about where our pieces where, but they finally found them in the back. Apperntly they didn't have a ticket accoicated with them and that's why it took a bit longer to find. Maybe i miss heard when I thought they said that they would touch up the pieces to make all the coats of the paint even, but when I got my pieces back it was exactly like I had painted even, uneven coats of paints and all. Both pieces still came out nice, it was a fun experience, but something I don't think we would spend money on again. read more

This place was ok. I went with my girlfriend. The first pot that we painted was not done on time and they didn't call us and tell us so we made a wasted trip there which was kind of annoying. Then when it was done a week later it had issues in the kiln. They did let us redo it which was nice I guess. Customer service is mediocre but the place is staffed by 16 year old girls so I guess that's normal. We went on the weekend both times and it was full of screaming kids which isn't my thing and was kind of unexpected. If you don't feel like being in a day care I would avoid this place on weekends. read more

Worst customer service EVER!! Rude staff, not ENOUGH staff for beginners. Not given info on time it takes to paint a detailed piece so I left with nothing because I only got the foundation on before we all felt rushed and had to leave.... we as a group gave this business several chances to redeem itself on our visit but they were genuinely rude AF with every interaction. I hosted a party here, effectively delivering 7 new customers to this business. My project was damaged in the kiln, rendered unrepairable. Understandably this can happen. My complaint is that on 3 occasions when I attempted to pick up my completed project I was lied to by every employee I spoke with, given excuses as to why my project wasn't ready. Finally, nearly a month after the party, my project was shown to me, the truth told and my cost refunded. I wonder why an owner and her employees would lie about such a small matter of relative unimportance. Shear lack of integrity! read more

I had organized a group of girls to go for a Bachelorette Party for an older bride. The event was VERY disappointing. The little girl assigned to help us seemed brand new, and didn't know the answers to our questions. She was not knowledgeable enough on the process, and she definitely did not know hot to articulate it to us. We kept having to wave people down to ask questions. At one point, I asked the OWNER "for some direction". She licked her finger, held it up in the air, and joked "That way is North". It was not funny to us, and I felt it VERY unprofessional of her to ridicule a customer. I had attempted a more complicated project, not realizing just how hard it would be, and I ended up throwing it out. Had we actually been provided with better information, it would not have been such a waste of time and money. We will NEVER go back. read more

I can't believe what crazy, relaxing fun this was! I went with a date the first time then with co-workers for some team building. With both we ate and drank and made wonderful memories. The staff is personable and fun to work with. It's a safe way to get to know the people you experience this activity with. It seems to always be fun no matter who I'm with! I'm already planning who I'll take there next. They just moved a few doors down to a larger facility, but the owner managed to keep the space cozy and inviting. read more

What a fabulous way to celebrate birthdays of all ages! We had a wonderful evening of artistic fellowship despite the fact that none of us knew what we were in for. Lori was so helpful and patient with us and gave us all the tips we needed to complete our artist canvas paintings. Usually acquainted with its work in ceramic art, the Bees Knees also does paintings. We had a fabulous evening and I would definitely recommend a fun evening with the girls.
