We made a reservation for 10 and came in to paint. We had plenty of space to spread out and there were plenty of paint options. The employees did a good job helping us. It's nice that the paints were self serve. Special upgrades are available for an extra charge. There was plenty of parking in the parking structure behind the building. Our pieces were available right on schedule. They have an amazing glaze on them too. Definitely a fun party as a girls day out!!! Please Add more deep purple color options. I come here all the time and love it. It's such a nice and relaxing outing. The staff is very kind. If something has ever gone wrong with my pieces, they give a generous credit. My only complaint is that the pieces take a week to be fired, glazed, and ready for pickup, but I know that's not necessarily in their control. okay starting off it was fine. The pots are over-priced, and i had painted with some of my teammates. I waited weeks and weeks for my pot just to find out it broke in the kiln. They NEVER gave me my money back, never let me know or let me re-do it!!!!! I come back again because we were doing another get together, and I pick out a 14-dollar tiny plate (crazy) and I think that how much it costs? You'd think right? Nope, 5 dollars are added to the charge. I wouldn't be so mad if they had TOLD me there was a 5-dollar fee added to the 14 dollars. But I didn't know until it was too late. Also, the paint brushes aren't great. they Staff were initiative and didn't care about helping us and rushed us out the door really quick. they were low on stock. read more

This place is such a creative and budget friendly place to have a kid's party. As the party host you are welcome to bring your own food and decorations and the kids have a blast for the two hours they are there and paint their party favor to take home. My only criticism is the complete lack of customer service for the party host. There wasn't a designated staff member to help set up the party with me, so it was very very stressful for me to manage 10- five year old kids with their parents. I don't think my expectations were unreasonable as I had asked some employees to help make a welcome announcement and to give out directions... which they never did. Luckily my son and I went a few weeks prior so I had the run down of what we were supposed to do and did the announcements/directions myself to the best of my ability. You see... if you decide to throw a party here, your event date will share the busy studio- which may mean (past covid) understaffed days. My day... at the end of January -almost every seat of the studio was filled so I understand that we kind of took a back seat.. but it was rather disappointing at the same time. I also didn't realize there was a back alley where you could unload and load which would have been super helpful! But- you know you make mistakes and you learn from them. I did have a minor incident where my set up wagon got caught to the table cloth at their front door and accidentally SHATTERED their plate. I was horrified as all eyes were on me. But two girls working that day told me it was ok. I insisted to pay for the damages and they said it was ok. I was very appreciative of that. So yes. This is a great spot for a party but just make sure you have: 1. A team of folks who will help you set up and perhaps as a back up do the run down with them before the party begins so you're not bombarded with questions if the team members are busy with other patrons. 2. This is a great activity place for people who likes to paint. as a beginner or an expert, they have free classes offered to teach you how to paint. You just need to look on the class schedule to make reservations and avail of the free class or pay discounted studio rates. If you're planning for a team building with co-workers, or a weekend bonding with kids, this is a good place to be creative. The rates are reasonable for occupying part of the studio, using regular paints and brush provided, as well as they fire the finished product you painted. Space is limited, no wall dividers for groups that need more privacy. This studio can be tight on space if all tables and chairs are occupied. There are a lot of blank items you could choose from like mugs, coasters, trays etc. I'll definitely comeback and try painting. read more

Creatopia is centrally located in downtown Plymouth. There is a parking garage directly behind and street parking as well. -They do walk ins, but studio fees are $5 for reservations and that alone saves you $5. While we were there on a Saturday afternoon, several parties were turned away. -They also have specials and events with discounted rates. See their website for updates dates/prices. -There is a generous selection of paint and pottery, though the table's glaze was sparse to empty. You'll have to keep getting up to get some. -Thankfully, I have done pottery before, because there were very few "check ins" from staff and even less direction. -To clean your tools or not to clean. Again, no directive. Other places I've been have asked you to leave items in a sink and they will clean them. Creatopia has you clean your own... maybe? I did as I saw others do and cleaned my own stuff. -If you want some fine detail and have your own brushes, bring them. Many of the brushes we used were older and on their last leg. -This was a GREAT place for my mother in law to paint pottery for her birthday using my kids' handprints and they enjoyed painting their little figurines as well. -Put your initials on everything or it may not get fired. -Finished pierces are food and dishwasher safe... but not microwave safe, so just a heads up! -Turn around time is 1 week, must faster than others. read more

I am not the type of girl who wants to sit around being crafty. I went through my knitting and crocheting phases but painting, nope. I still had fun. If you go on a Tuesday or Thursday you get your studio time for under 5 bucks. That works. Basically you pick your pottery, pick the colors, paint it up to your liking and pick it up a week later. Easy peasy. It is fun to craft something you like and can actually use in colors you choose. Do not make my mistake and bring it to your moms on the way home. Your mom may try to swipe it if she sees it, teary with nostalgia from gifts of your craft projects of yore. However it is embarassing to be contemplating putting a forty year old *kid's* artwork on display. Sadly I am only moderately more talented than I was then so it would be extra pathetic to be showing off my creations. I will be keeping mine for my own personal enjoyment thanks. Luckily for me the people can help even the most creatively challenged among us and my project came out much better than I thought it would. Win! read more

Headed here with my partner and two co-workers, and had a really fun time! My boo and I used to paint pottery on dates all the time back in CO, but was sad to find that Ann Arbor didn't have such a place. My co-worker suggested Creatopia, and I called ahead to make a reservation (you save $4 per person on painting fee if you give them at least 24-hours notice). They were so welcoming and kind, plus had a nice variety of paint colors, including 12 traditional color bottles at the table. I was also impressed at the options they had for pieces, and was particularly thrilled that they had a Seder plate, something I have NEVER seen, despite having gone to many studios in various states. They were helpful and supportive of our work, but not too overwhelming. There was a kids birthday party going on, which was a little much, but otherwise, a great time. Stopped in unexpectedly while out with my sister. We found a large selection of pottery to choose from and both quickly settled on choices. We found we had to go to every table in the place to find black paint (they were all empty) and their regular color options were not very expansive. The girl who was working seemed incredibly less than interested in bring there and either very unknowledgable or very unhelpful. Many brushes were garbage and we struggled to find brushes to complete our projects. Cost was comparable to other pottery places and turnaround was a week, which is normal. Overall, I'd probably come again because the location is perfect and the selection was generous, but for the overall experience, somewhere else will treat you better. I was disappointed with my visit. I went in with my daughter and the place was only half full and they turned us away, stating they were fully booked. They had several seats available and closed down entire tables for 8 people to hold it for a reservation for 2 or 3 people. They said they had to hold the whole table for the reservation. It was so odd. I would never expect them to hold a large table for only my daughter and I, and we would understand sharing a table. And then you pick your piece that you want to paint sit down and paint it's super chill and fun and I've always had a very good time. The store was packed and there was only one girl working behind the counter. We waited for her to come over and explain things to us. She never came so we got up and left! Very poorly run and so unorganized. Would not recommend! The week before my friend went in there, spent a great deal of time (2 hours) on her piece that she painted. Creatopia is a paint-it-yourself pottery place. Nestled amongst the cute-sie shops in Downtown Plymouth, it is a great place to take the girls! They have all sorts of pottery you can paint! Plates, bowls, holiday stuff, cute animals etc. I came here on a rainy day over the weekend and painted a spoon rest. There are many colors to choose from and the people there were pretty helpful in getting me started. An hour later, I was done with my spoon rest. This is a cute & fun place to take kids or to just go and have a little artsy-fartsy adult time. It's too bad they don't serve wine ;) I guess not the best idea being surrounded by breakables but a girl can dream.... Lots of glaze colors to choose from although I wish there were more pottery to choose from. A lot of it seemed kiddy-friendly which is cool, that's probably their main clientele...for some reason I was a little disappointed in the selection. No biggie though, I chose a little dish that will soon be a good ash tray, hah. Pricing was so-so....you can do a small square tile for as little as $3 but a lot of the other things went from $8 and up. I think the charge for the glaze was $6....but I also think that they had a buy-one, get-one type of special going on. I don't know, my friend picked up the "tab" this time. Staff is pretty friendly and helpful although they did keep reminding us what time they close which was slightly annoying. One count-down reminder is just fine, but 2 and 3 started to become irritating; we knew what time they close! You put the glaze on your items and then pick it up a week later. I was disappointed to learn that I would not take home my masterpiece tonight but I guess they have to have more than just a few items to justify firing up that kiln. I've been coming here since it first opened, but hadn't been in in quite a while. My daughter came with her girl scout troop and thought about having her birthday here (December babies have such a tough time planning a party; indoors and something to keep kids engaged) We came on a Sunday afternoon, that happened to be family fun day so they were booked for a few hours. We put our name on the list and spent some time walking Plymouth eating cupcakes and visiting shops. SO make reservations if you can. At our appropriate time, we came in and got started. What a great time! You get a lesson and tour of all the tools and paints, as well as some tips to help you make a masterpiece. The only drag is that after bonding with your piece, you must leave it to be glazed... such grief, for the week it takes to be done! Give them every minute of the seven days. It really takes that long! So that did it. We were coming back for the party. I made my reservation for a party of 10 painters for a small deposit. On party day, I arrived and as kids and grown ups alike arrived, I realized that we'd have one more painter than I had calculated (the adults had a look of childlike wonder at the thought of creating a piece) No big deal! They pulled up a chair and were included for an appropriate additional charge. They had a small table set up for presents and refreshments (I did juice pouches in a cooler as it would have gotten very crazy had the kids had cups) Had a pizza delivered, and a tray of cupcakes we picked up from Cupcake Station around the corner. I kept it all very portable and easy to serve and set up and it went very smoothly. Party participants have a choice of a pricepoint or lower for their piece, and besides keeping their cost in check, it's a genius plan as if you go for a bigger piece, you may run over on paint time. They do allow you to pay the difference if someone chooses a piece over the pricepoint, but do know that it may take longer to finish it. One hour to paint, then eating, cake and presents. We were in and out within an hour and 40 minutes. The staff did a great job keeping everything moving along and providing support to anyone who had a question about their piece. they wrote names on our pieces, we settled up quickly and it was a wonderful time. Such great attitudes about the whole process. I'd recommend this company for a kiddie party or even a girls night out or date night. It was very nice. read more

I received my two pieces. I only painted my pieces in shades of blue-green and gray. Both pieces have several spots of other colors on them that I never used. I imagine the kiln was packed so tightly that the colors from the other projects came off on mine. If you don't care what your piece looks like at the end then you will enjoy your experience here. I've gone to several other places to paint pottery and this is the only place that had the colors of other projects transferred on mine. What a nice place! I had never painted anything in my life, but my wife wanted to try painting some pottery so we visited Creatopia. You pick the pottery you want to paint from their large collection, they give you some basic instructions, and you're left alone to enjoy your time and paint. They have a huge selection of paint colors and materials you can use, which are all included in the studio fee. The staff is friendly and they are willing to help you with ideas and answering questions, or they are happy to leave alone, if you prefer. Tip: if you make a reservation at least 24 hours in advance, the studio fee is $5 instead of $9. Overall, this is a very enjoyable place to visit. We have visited twice and have no complaints. I've been to several other pottery painting places and this is worst one I've been to. Their "idea center" with stamps and stencils is severely lacking in resources to be able to create nice pieces. I can be crafty, and I do get around. Every time I have kids around me, I want to encourage creativity. Many nephews, nieces, and rental niece/nephews have accompanied me. Special deals on special days make this affordable, especially if you choose smaller items. The staff is always patient and helpful and cleans up after you and the messy kids you brought. I so wish they had a place like this in my neighborhood. I came here with some girl scouts and had the most amazing time. The girls ranged in ages from 5-10. They each got the opportunity to pick an item to paint within the $15 price range. There were lots to choose from - fairies, puppies, treasure boxes, etc. Our items were ready one week later and I was pleasantly surprised how well they turned out. I went last week and I was very disappointed with the communication regarding prices and the procedures. I told the older lady working at Creatopia that my niece and I had never been to the store. She said ok, find some pottery and sit. She explained how the paints work and how many coats you need and then we never saw her again until check out. We worked for about an hour on our pieces. When we went to check out, we came to find out their is a $10.00 sitting fee for adults and $9.00 for children. This was not expressed to us as new customers to the store. I said ok, paid it and went on my way. Today I went to pick up the lovely creations. One small $2.00 dragonfly my niece painted and was going to give to her mother as a gift has my initial across the wing. Apparently the small items are not suppose to be alone, they are suppose to be attached to another piece, again not expressed to us. I was told when I questioned this that all pieces needed initials. I would have been happy to put initials on the pottery, but again I was told. I would have put it on the bottom of the pottery and not on the front!!!!! Absolutely wish I could give this business ten stars. I remember a place like this called art castle when I was little. I love how well the staff explains things if you're new. I'm not very artistic so any advice helps!!! I like the choices of pottery, although it's so hard to pick because everything looks so cool. I've been there twice so far so I've picked projects under $20. Over $20, the projects get a little harder (and requires more imagination) so I feel I need more practice. They have standard colors on each table, but have sparkle paint & paint pens around the store you can use. Also they have stencils & stickers. Tuesday is half off day so it's great to take the kids. They have ladies night & family night too. Make sure you reserve a table. If you walk-in, don't get mad if you don't get a table. They are busy & popular, so reserve a table!!! Overall, I'll be a regular here. It's great for family time, girls night, or even date night! Will definitely try a class once too. read more

This place has changed! I walk in with my daughter who has a gift card. I haven't been here in quite a few years and it was always with a ladies night out group. I didn't know what to do so we just walked around until she found something she liked. It took me awhile to figure out the workers were the ones sitting at a table talking (at first i thought they were all customers). So I finally walked up to one said we haven't been here before as walk ins and not sure what to do. She goes through her speech (in 5 seconds) on where paints are, what to use pallets for and idea books. She cleaned off a table and walked away. I said to my daughter "I guess you just grab what you want and let's get started." I decided to do a 4" tile while she was working on a massive castle to help with the time. The entire time we worked, I had to hear gossiping from the workers talking about other workers and such. So unprofessional!! I mean they weren't whispering at all...just talking like they were hanging out. My daughter finally finishes and we walk up to pay. At that point, I was told my studio fee was $9! I would not have done a little 4" tile with 4 colors if I known it was going to cost me $13. "Oh, nobody told you?" She says. No, I felt like we were bothering her just to get a table. I'm only going back to pick up our items and my daughter needs to use the rest of her gift card. Ugh...I'm going to ask Grandma to think of something else for her birthday. read more

I take my young cousins here at least twice a year in lieu of traditional birthday/christmas presents. They absolutely adore it. I've even painted some stuff here myself, when enough time has passed in between visits for me to forget that I am a failure as an artist. The quality of the pottery they have to paint is very good (something I can vouch for as I spent about 15 years throwing pottery myself) and they have a great selection of glazes. The owner seems a little grouchy but she is always great with kids, even when I see people's children running amok. Perhaps she is one of those people who interacts better with children. The other employees are unfailingly friendly to everyone. My only complaint is that for unknown reasons they refuse to give out their wireless password. Seriously? I am bored, my 3G doesnt work in there and I would like the opportunity to do something productive while the kids are totally engaged in something other than chattering non-stop.
