Another cute ice cream shop in the area - by 6pm you'll see a very long line extending out to the parking lot. There are separate lines if you want "food" aside from ice-cream, though the majority of people come here for the sweets so be ready to wait anywhere from 10-15 mins to get to the front. Tons of creative options to get your fill here!

Good soft serve! Cream King's Vanilla Soft Serve has a thick consistency that holds up well in the summer heat. The vast topping options available at a roadside ice cream shack was a bit surprising and surely steered me towards a soft serve sundae, a bit of a rarity, in lieu of a cone. The selection of hot fudge and peanuts sure did sound great in theory but in reality, not so good. The hot fudge was just ok, it wasn't really "hot", and it was a bit too thick. The peanuts were stale and really negated the positives of the soft serve. Given that I grabbed my dessert to go, I had to navigate around the stale nuts for the soft serve and fudge. I'd say skip the toppings and go naked on the soft serve. Finally Cream King was friendly and the surrounding outside seating area was inviting.

If it just about the food, Cream King would be a uninspired three stars. The burgers and hot dogs are a step below your average backyard BBQ. Prefab beef pucks, store bought franks and buns, deep oil fries. Soft serve that suggests bygone quality that somehow misses the mark today. Yet, if it is about family memories brought to life again in the present, timeless Americana roadside attractions, grandparents and grandchildren sharing time they will never forget, then five stars are not nearly enough. So, it all depends on your mood whether Cream King disappoints or moves you to reminisce wistfully. I experienced both extremes on a hot steamy Sunday evening in August. Perhaps that was exactly what they were hoping for.

A fantastic, vintage joint on the side of the road. Old and dinky but produces the most delicious, creamy homemade ice cream!!! Their fried bites aren't half bad either. All at an extremely low price. Glad I stopped by!

I had to try the pretzel cone! And the most delicious chocolate peanut butter ice cream.

Driving at 9 PM to this ice cream spot from Trenton is pretty much a scary movie. There are barely any street lights, tons of farm land, and this city girl knows that people of color are the first to go. I cautiously approached the parking lot and thankfully there was a very friendly attendant behind the counter. I was intrigued by the new Sea Salt ice cream flavor and the pretzel cone option....but opted only for the pretzel cone since I don't need to have bigger "cankles" with all that sodium intake. I added chocolate peanut butter ice cream in my pretzel cone and quickly regretted it. The ice cream was delicious, creamy with soft swirls of peanut butter, but that pretzel cone was terrible! Stale, odd taste, almost like hardened baking soda, sadly a total disappointment. The clear winner of the night was my hubby who I planted the idea of Sea Salt ice cream and thankfully got it in a waffle cone. The taste of the ice cream was like creamy vanilla with slices of almonds and a little sea salt to bring it all together. This flavor was amazing! Both cones were huge, and about $5 a pop. The Cream King has plenty of outside seating, with tents for even rainy days. Apparently they serve some food here too, I'm excited to risk my life again and try some of it. P.S. Cash only.

For a delightfully sweet ending to our small circle of good friend's New Jersey winery trail, our final stop was at Cream King. Cream King functions more than a creamery ice cream as it is also an all-American dinner. My one small cup of vanilla ice cream was devine!

Absolutely love a flight, especially if it involves ice cream!…read more This place is so cozy and cute with such unique flavors of fresh made ice cream. This past summer I have been on the lookout for the best ice cream in Mercer County and this place. Definitely takes the cake. The ice cream is soft creamy and fresh and they have such unique flavors as well as seasonal flavors. The ice cream flight is $12 for four scoops of ice cream, which I think is an amazing deal! There's indoor and outdoor seating, but depending on the time of day that you go, they are very busy. But they are in such a nice location that if you would like to grab ice cream and take a walk in the downtown Lawrenceville area you can.

But baby the peri 'pause had me catching the business end of a hot flash while I was running errands a while ago so I decided to finally check out Melba. Truth be told I was all but in before I spontaneously combusted at Shop Rite because they posted their newest flavor drop - Bay Leaf Stracciatella. I ADORE unique and savory ice cream flavors and had to taste it for myself. A woman on a mission, I didn't even think to ask for samples and just blurted out my order without seeing what else was on offer. Oops. Anyway I got 2 skewps on a delicate sugar cone (BTW, much like ICE, waffle cones should be abolished). It was delectable. Not at all sweet, the bitterness of the chocolate was very forward and the bay leaf was reminiscent of soup lmao. The texture was divine. I could be home legs splayed in the air conditioning right now. Instead I'm sitting outside behind Melba getting my entire life. You should too!

It was Labor Day so the other popular place was closed, but we found this place, which was open. It's a little shop that spoke of its history just down the street from downtown Princeton and Princeton University. There is street parking, but we had parked in a parking garage near the downtown shopping area and walked over. It only took just about 7 minutes. Maybe less if you're not traveling with kids. There are two doors but one is exit only. Go through the one on your left. They have a steady stream of customers and I spotted these huge waffle cones with gigantic scoops of luscious ice cream. I honestly had no idea what I was getting into since it was an unplanned visit. Though there was a line, it went by quickly and by the time we got up there, there were more people behind us. We were definitely the odd ones out because it seemed like everyone else knew what they wanted and I was still trying to digest the menu and what they offered. I could feel the impatience as I asked my questions. The good news is they're pretty knowledgeable about ingredients! One of my kids has food allergies and though he was okay with getting soft serve, which was clearly not a popular option, they were nice enough to call out a manager to answer questions. Tip: their chocolate ice cream is egg and nut free. We ended up getting the soft serve anyway. In fact, both of my kids got vanilla soft serve but one in a cup for the kid with food allergies, and the other in a wafer cone. I shared a double scoop with my husband in a cup. (I sort of regretted that and wish I went for that huge waffle cone, but I guess that means there must be a next time!) I chose their Coffee Oreo (think cookies and cream but it's now cookies and coffee) and cinnamon flavors. They are healthy scoops and I liked them. The coffee flavor was nice and strong that it almost overshadowed the Oreo bits. It was nice! I mostly got that flavor for my husband who loves his coffee. The cinnamon was wonderful. You could taste it and I rather enjoyed that. We also finished the soft serve! It isn't the creamiest I've had, but it's one of the more "milkier" vanilla soft serves! My kids enjoyed it and it was a decent size. None of the ice cream we got were too sweet, so that was really nice. This place is definitely a solid one to go to for one's ice cream fix! They have a few small tables on the other side by the "exit" for door as well as a water fountain. They also provide cups, which I thought was a nice touch. Because I felt a bit rushed on this occasion, I definitely hope I'll be able to go back and make a more informed order my next time there! The staff were all really nice and helpful though.

They've an impressive range of flavors, and I try to always try a flavor that I've not had in a long time, however I need to have my chocolate cherry more often than not. It's also very common to see people walking along the counter to pick their flavors. If you haven't made a decision, and the people behind you in line know what they want, do the right thing and let them go first. They give healthy scoops, and one scoop, although it doesn't sound like much, might be enough for someone with less post-dinner space available in their belly. If it's your first time visiting, watch the scoops being given to the person in front of you before making your decision. As an added bonus, during Spring and Summer Saturday nights, they have live music in the room as well. It's a cheap, fun date.
