After class, a group of us came to have a late night supper. Most of us got the wet burrito. It was my first time here. Inside was bean. I came with three different kinds of sauces and cups so you can pour on yourself. All in all, it was delicious and fresh. We also had plátanos for an appetizer with chips and salsa. First time here with a big group of friends to celebrate a birthday dinner. Ordered pretty much everything on the menu - Quesadillas, enchiladas, chimichangas, burrito bowl, taco bowl.... Finishing off with a dessert with a special touch. We ordered tres leches for the birthday , the staff went above and beyond to decorate the cake and add a warm touch with their hospitality. We always love trying new places and being a road trip it's a toss up on if you want to sit down somewhere or so fast food. We looked up the restaurants in the area and decided we'd be down for a break. This joint in unassuming in nature with several seats in the interior and a few on the small patio. But when you walk around the back you're greatest by a large glass enclosure with open windows. They clearly must get busy with so much seating. I wasn't a huge fan of the tap water and wish I'd brought in my own bottle. All in all id recommend checking this place out and wouldnt mind stopping by again. What we got: Guac & chips (small) - 5* great flavor and creamy quac. It tasted fresh and the tomatoes and red onion were perfect. Almost wish we'd gotten the large, I felt like my partner was eating at double speed it was so delicious!! Passion fruit agua fresca - 4* happy with the flavour but wish the portion was a bit bigger. Red snapper tacos - 3.5* I didn't love the red snapper and was a little disappointed that the toppings was only red cabbage but it paired well with the red sauce. All i can say is wow. wow. wow. wow. The gauc MAGNIFICENT! the salsa DREAMY! the queso, don't even bring it up around me because I will go FERAL. Tostadas, are a must. Tacos are a must. Good service. Had a shrimp burrito, the shrimps were super small and not tasty, would recommend not getting that. Also tried their talapia, which smelled a little fishy. Went on a Sunday and timing was off. We were the first of 3 parties to sit down. But our waiter was definitely less experienced then the female working the other tables. We ordered our beverages and he came and went 3x and we never got them, then he came and asked of we were ready to order our meals. My typically polite bf said " sure, but where are our beverages?". For this area, Tacos Cancun is a solid 3.5-4 stars. Overall though it's probably closer to 3 stars. This BYOB place has a wideeee selection of Jarritos bottles to choose from. We took our newborn here and at in the outdoor, glass-enclosed pavilion. It was pretty nice hit on a cool night got a bit cool. The sidewalk around the building is precarious and was tight for a stroller. There was no ramp for star stroller to get into the main building (three or four steps). The food itself was pretty decent. The guac was a reasonable portion for snacking- not very big - and was super smooth, not chunky. It needed salt though, badly. The three tacos I ate - Tinga, carne asada, and carnitas, were all pretty good but also lacked salt. The floutas were pretty good as well. Not the best we've had but not the worst. Just respectable. Service was nice and friendly, but with two other tables, we had to ask for our Jarritos when our dinner came even though we ordered them at the beginning. Paying was quick though. Lovely little spot for great Mexican food. It has limited seating inside but has a large glass enclosed space with retractable windows in back. The menu is broad and extensive. The empanadas are perfect...the dough is perfect thickness, crispness without being greasy...and they are generously filled. Entree portion sizes are generous and the cost is reasonable. I moved to PA from San Diego, CA a couple of years ago. We have some awesome Mexican food in San Diego as you may have guessed. This place puts everything I've tried in SD to shame! By far, the BEST carnitas burrito I have ever had - and I've had plenty! My dining partner had the mahi-mahi tacos and swooned over those, especially with the mango salsa! The quality of the food went beyond restaurant standards - I felt like I was in a 75-year-old grandma's kitchen who placed in front of me a recipe that had been in the family for generations, it was THAT good. A delicious hole in the wall that caught me by surprise. The dining area may be small, but the menu is gargantuan and exciting. Everything tasted fresh off the avocado boat. High quality ingredients mixed with love and creativity. Our waiter was extremely personable and made sure we were happy the entire time. When you find street parking with time on the meter located directly across from your destination in Lambertville, you suspect that grace and parking angels are smiling down on you. So, expectations rise and you prepare for more magic moments. I chose Tacos Cancun because I desired good Mexican cuisine in a safe space respecting Covid Protocol. Just so happened that the back patio had been recently renovated - replacing beach umbrellas with a large lime green tarpaulin over all the tables and a 6' bamboo screen all around. It made the backyard feel private and someplace more tropical than New Jersey. That I was the only paying customer late Sunday afternoon, certainly helped with the vibe. I took a table along the southern wall about halfway back and had all the attention I could ever want. The menu had most of the usual suspects, plus a few house specialties. Although I was considering Flautas, Chili Rellenos, or Torta Milanese, when I arrived, I changed my mind for a walk on the wild side and ordered La Gringa, one of their specials that seemed to cover a lot of bases (sauteed veggies, ham, chorizo, melted cheese and crema drizzle). It was well reviewed, so I rolled with the optimistic sense I came in with. Within 10 minutes a large white ceramic plate arrived, with Red Rice & Black Beans and hot Tortillas. It was all delicious, even though I didn't understand why the dish was called "Gringa," (North American Girl). No doubt there was a story there, but the servers didn't seem to know it. Even without the additional local color, it was a fine filling meal. It wasn't overly spicy, but not everything has to be a conflagration for me to be happy. While not as intensely authentic as the kitchens found in the Hispanic neighborhoods of Trenton or Norristown, it was plenty good enough for me. No hesitation coming again. read more

I love Mexican food. The more authentic the better and that is exactly what Tacos Cancun offers. We sat in their patio area which felt very informal and cozy. If fancy is your thing this isn't for you! The menu had lots of options! Many things that I have never heard of or tried before. The servers are as authentic as the food which caused a small language issue but I'm ok with that. I opted for the enchiladas sampler that offered three styles and a Diet Coke. Ice was brought in a bowl instead of in glasses. A pitcher of water was also provided but only one glass. A little odd but we just went with the flow. The water was great when the cans of soda were empty. Home made chips and salas were served to start us off. The chips were delicious and the salsa was flavorful but not spicy! My favorite combo! The enchiladas were amazing. All had shredded chicken. Each was made with a different sauce. The mole was my least favorite but the chicken was so good that I pushed off sauce and ate it anyway. I can't pick a favorite between the red and the green. They both were equally delicious. Rice and beans were served on the side. I have never been served Mexican rice as they prepared but it was delicious. It was a denser white rice with corn, carrots, string beans and some other veggies mixed in. It was not seasoned but it was cooked so perfectly that it somehow required no salt. The beans were delicious as well! I'd love to hear back here with a person who speaks more Spanish then I do!
