We used to love Cream King but they changed ownership a year or two ago and they now have the worst soft serve ice cream I've ever had. Vanilla was almost tasteless and it's horribly grainy. I don't even know how they manage to create grainy soft serve. Can't comment on food or hard ice cream, but stay away from soft serve. Cream King is just ok. It's on a busy, fast road with a small entrance. Part of the parking lot is not paved and to walk to the entrance is a bit rocky. Overall, the area was not too friendly for a stroller. The eating area is cramped and you have to step up from some kind of weird dirt area to a concrete pad with uncomfy tables. During the summer, Cream King is pretty packed and a popular location that serves ice cream and burgers and hot dogs. During hot days, they announce on Facebook that they don't do the hot food. A mid-century roadside grease pit with very decent soft serve ice cream that receives a major get out of jail free card (at least from me) for absolutely zero gourmet pretensions which given the epicurious swarms in the Princeton area is a thankful respite. For all you know it could be 2021 or 1957 for that matter. Order what you like as long as it can be deep fried beyond recognition in hot oil and wolfed down on some worse for wear picnic benches. If you're watching your waistline, live a little and order the fried Crisco off the health menu. Good soft serve! Cream King's Vanilla Soft Serve has a thick consistency that holds up well in the summer heat. The vast topping options available at a roadside ice cream shack was a bit surprising and surely steered me towards a soft serve sundae, a bit of a rarity, in lieu of a cone. The selection of hot fudge and peanuts sure did sound great in theory but in reality, not so good. The hot fudge was just ok, it wasn't really "hot", and it was a bit too thick. The peanuts were stale and really negated the positives of the soft serve. Given that I grabbed my dessert to go, I had to navigate around the stale nuts for the soft serve and fudge. I'd say skip the toppings and go naked on the soft serve. Finally Cream King was friendly and the surrounding outside seating area was inviting. read more

Everytike I get something here lately its completely different from the last. A flurry is half a cup of ice cream or a full cup but the reason im writing today is because I got here at 7:50 and by the time I got to the front of the line it was 8:01 PM and they refused to make me an order of fries. There was also a woman behind me with three kids who was trying to get chicken fingers and french fries for them for dinner and despite having the grill on where I could clearly see they were making hamburgers and french fries still chose to decline service. Every flavor is fresh and delicious. They have so many great flavor options to chose from and such a wide variety of toppings that you could come dozens of times and get something new every time. The staff is energetic, friendly , and enthusiastic. The outdoor seating area has picnic tables and umbrellas, some on a patio and some on a lawn. Mostly because, up until recently- we couldn't go here as my daughter has an egg allergy and all of their ice cream has egg in it (just a heads up) but since she's outgrown her allergy I assume we'll become regulars! Prefab beef pucks, store bought franks and buns, deep oil fries. Soft serve that suggests bygone quality that somehow misses the mark today. Yet, if it is about family memories brought to life again in the present, timeless Americana roadside attractions, grandparents and grandchildren sharing time they will never forget, then five stars are not nearly enough. We've been living in the area for about 5 years, and would drive past long lines every spring/summer evening and wonder about the ice cream at this cute roadside ice cream stop. Well, wonder no more - we're full on Cream King converts - it's delicious! Growing up we had something similar down by my parents (the Maple Shade Custard Stand - if anyone is wondering, still the MOST amazing custard I've ever had), a no frills ice cream spot that tempts you come back dozens of times. Cream King is definitely doing the same. In addition to ice cream. Cream King offers food - looks like burgers, chicken fingers, etc., but I've never tried. They boast plenty of hard ice cream flavors as well, but I've only ever gotten soft serve. It's always consistently delicious, and their sprinkles are never stale (such a pet peeve of mine!). Creamy, custardy, and packed with flavor - even the vanilla knocks off my socks! My go to is usually a twist in a cup with rainbow sprinkles, but the vanilla is so good that I've found myself ordering vanilla with chocolate sprinkles! If you come after dinner, expect a small line to be there. It moves fast, everyone's in a good mood (we're all about to get ice cream, so how could you not be?!), and there's ice cream in your future. There's plenty of seating around the building, but they also give you lids if you ask for your frozen treat to-go. Cream King has a punch card, 1 punch for every $5 spent - I think I can see plenty of free ice cream in our futures! We usually pay cash, but they now accept credit/debit card too! Don't be scared by the no-frills building, they're churning out delicious frozen goodness here! Sadly, they are only open seasonally. Driving at 9 PM to this ice cream spot from Trenton is pretty much a scary movie. There are barely any street lights, tons of farm land, and this city girl knows that people of color are the first to go. I cautiously approached the parking lot and thankfully there was a very friendly attendant behind the counter. I was intrigued by the new Sea Salt ice cream flavor and the pretzel cone option....but opted only for the pretzel cone since I don't need to have bigger "cankles" with all that sodium intake. I added chocolate peanut butter ice cream in my pretzel cone and quickly regretted it. The ice cream was delicious, creamy with soft swirls of peanut butter, but that pretzel cone was terrible! Stale, odd taste, almost like hardened baking soda, sadly a total disappointment. The clear winner of the night was my hubby who I planted the idea of Sea Salt ice cream and thankfully got it in a waffle cone. The taste of the ice cream was like creamy vanilla with slices of almonds and a little sea salt to bring it all together. This flavor was amazing! Both cones were huge, and about $5 a pop. The Cream King has plenty of outside seating, with tents for even rainy days. Apparently they serve some food here too, I'm excited to risk my life again and try some of it. P.S. I can admit it...I'm a sucker for good ice cream and I'm usually sucked in by a local place instead of a chain. Wifey and I stopped in at Cream King on the way home from an awards ceremony for a friend at the Trenton War Memorial. I was in the mood for a shake and Wifey just wanted a taste of something so I got a sea salt caramel nut milkshake and she got a kids cup of chocolate peanut butter ripple. Wow...just wow. After passing this place dozens of times, we stopped by after picking up food at Honey Brook a few weeks ago. The onion rings are outstanding. Perfectly fried, not the least bit greasy. Tender--YUM. I think I'll have to stop there again today, even though it's 100 degrees outside Friendly people who will get you your ice cream immediately--we ended up with a coffee/pistachio-cashew butterscotch sundate which was very good, but having been spoiled by Halo ice cream, the ice cream could have been better and with more of a cashew flavour (even though it too was a local brand). I have been dreaming of butterscotch with coffee ice cream ever since. Yum yum yum! It's also a good stop returning from Hopewell Valley Vineyards. Cream King is unassuming right on the road. But don't let its appearance fool you. The ice cream is made from Hood so it's not homemade but it tastes so good regardless. They have hot food like burgers, hot dogs, fries and rings. But the ice cream really stands out. Both hard and soft serve ice cream are very good so go ahead and order all of it. I've been going here since I was a kid. I went there last week. The floor looked mostly clean. I wouldn't eat off of it. However, I checked out the rest of the insides and saw the grill looked clean and the place where soft serve is served looks clean as well. The floor does not keep me from eating here. Been patronizing Cream King for a number of few years. Got to say: What gives? The serving sizes of your soft-serve cones have taken a downward squeeze. Your cones now amount to between 2/3 -1/2 the amount you used to offer. Considering the cost of a small cone equals 3-bucks & 25 (plus tip), and considering that now the size of your cone doesn't fill my eye-tooth..that just doesn't cut it in my book. Stopped by today, was looking in the window to the inside and saw how FILTHY the place looked. I grew up with places like this, and I was glad to see one here in NJ. The service was fast and considerate, and the prices were fair. Even the kid's size is pretty substantial, though for that they went easy on the chocolate dip (that's a "hard shell" for you Jersey boys and girls). There was ample parking and outdoor seating on a hot Sunday afternoon. I can only speak to the soft serve, since that's what we got. Hard ice cream is from Hood, so nothing special. This place brings you back to the 70's and 80's! Great variety of ice cream and burger / hot dog options. Friendly staff that will pretty much make any combination of ice cream flavors you want. Only downside is the close proximity to rt 31. Cars are driving pretty fast so make sure you have an eye on your kids if you eat there with them. Cream King falls short and has gone downhill as the summer continued. Each visit, it got worse. I've been there several times over the summer and found that they are either out of soft serve completely or hardly ever have both vanilla and chocolate (soft serve) at the same time. If you peak in the window, you will see that the cleanliness is questionable. The machines do not look like they are cleaned on a regular basis and on my last visit I saw a disgusting mop and bucket full of dirty water resting right next to the soft serve machine. Gross! In the 1961-63 era I worked at Kreme King for Al and Mary Gorecki, both now deceased. Nicest employers a kid could have and they produced a quality eating experience for the customers. May the Kreme King be around another 50 years. read more
