This gem of an ice cream parlor was quite a find. Recommended by our server at a nearby restaurant. As we walked down the street towards the place we kept seeing people with ice cream cones (and cups) in their hands. We would ask, and they would enthusiastically reply, "its just down the street! You have too go there! " This happened a few times. As we approached, we saw a large gathering of people, (aaugh, long lines), but no. When we sauntered to the store the line had receded and we were quickly served. The establishment is a small time establishment, but big on quality. Wow. This is the kinda place you hope to stumble upon. Passing by through town post train ride, I called to see if they made banana splits... they didn't, however Grace graciously (ha) offered to make one if we brought our own banana. BYOB. Well we did and boom Grace was excited and pumped to see us. I went with the almond fudge something ice cream and the girlfriend went with the berry crumble ice cream. The ice cream and most of the toppings are organic. Whipped cream made in house. The love, attention to detail, and the care that went into making such a tiny part of my day has paid off. This one will definitely go down in my book as the best banana split that I've had yet (amateur banana split critic over here). This was the cherry-on-top of my Durango visit. Hands down the best ice cream I've ever gotten at a shop! And in the perfect downtown location. I got the coconut milk chocolate (vegan!) and the texture was that of a luscious, decadent gelato and the flavor was purely an aromatic chocolate that just got better with every bite. It was rich, but didn't upset my stomach or make me feel like I was having "too much." It was that good to where one scoop was satisfying enough, yet I am planning to come back tomorrow for more. The shop uses recyclable paper cups and offers wooden spoons, too, which is an awesome addiction! They offer waffle, sugar, cake, and gluten free sugar cones. :) Every day they have a menu out front with their daily flavors. Small little place with a limited selection of house made ice cream using real ingredients like cream, milk and sugar and seasonal fruit. They also make other things like ice cream cookie sandwiches and they also have regular cones and then house made sugar cones So I got their cherry chevre which is goat milk and it was divine! One generous scoop in their delicious house made waffle cone and I was in heaven... Staff was friendly, helpful and quick and we sat down and all enjoyed our delicious cones there inside. I love that Durango has a craft ice cream place. And, Cream Bean is my usual go-to when I'm downtown and hankering for some ice cream (even in winter)! I love the thought that goes into the craft flavors and have yet to be disappointed. The ice cream is always nice and silky, and Cream Bean doesn't skimp when it comes to ingredients. Yes, they are pricier then a Coldstone of frozen yogurt place, but it's also because the ice creams are handcrafted. Plus the fact that Cream Bean operates with environmental sustainability in mind. I'd rather pay a bit more and patron a place that takes such things seriously as part of their business practice then a large chain that pays no mind to their footprint. Also, while I'm not vegan, I love that Cream Bean has daily flavors for those who don't do dairy. And, trust me, they are just as good as the rest. read more

I can't speak to the quality of the ice cream because our trip to the ER overshadowed any enjoyment. No signage about allergens near the ice cream case, so we thought we were safe. I understand all about cross contamination but WHO BLENDS NUTS IN COOKIES AND CREAM AND DOESN'T LABEL IT? After a few bites, my 13 yo said her throat felt funny. Water dispenser was empty so I asked employee for water from the tap which she got for us grudgingly. While my daughter was drinking the water I asked if there were nuts in the cookies and cream. This place is very good but what absolutely keep me away was how knowledgeable the staff was on ingredients. My son has severe good allergies to egg, peanuts, soy and treenuts. Wish I could agree with the majority here, but just was not a fan. Prices were very high and the taste missed the mark with my family. We love our ice cream and when it comes to this tasty treat, I think we are easy to please. Today's ice cream experience was just NOT good though In total, we tried the salted caramel, real mint chocolate chip, Belgian chocolate, and cherry chocolate swirl. Here our my thoughts: -Belgian chocolate- okay, had a nice strong chocolate flavor. -salted caramel- good with a nice salty flavor -cherry chocolate swirl-something was just off. Cherry had kind of an odd flavor. Not bad but not good. -real mint-not good. I have had real mint before, a couple of days ago for that matter, but this one tasted like crest toothpaste. I understand it can be a hit or miss flavor and I generally like it but not this one. Overall, for $6 for two scoops I expect artisan ice cream to be on point and was disappointed today. My wife actually discarded her mint. For my wife to do that, something was off with that flavor. I think 2.5 is appropriate score here but after reading my own review I will bump my two to a three. The young lady acted put out because we wanted to try a few flavors first (vegan pistachio rose and vegan golden milk). She also was hard to hear and when asked how many scoops in a pint vs their two scoops she said it depends. Depends on what? Seems that when paying over $6 for two scoops they should be generous and the same each time. The over $8 pints should also be packed full of what ever delicious flavor you get.
