The pineapple curry and the pad Thai is so amazing and they are super friendly. They treat everyone like family.

My kids and I absolutely love this place. My 11yo says, "this is literally the best food I've ever had." Nothing we've tried has disappointed. Dropped in for a late lunch on Sunday on our way back from Mena, AR. Lunch specials from 11 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. everyday (except Tuesday)?! Can't think of another place that offers the same thing. Hubby inhaled the entire L6 - Bangkok Fried Rice with chicken. I totally enjoyed the L3 - Pad Woon Sen and savored every bite. Really great and fresh ingredients and the food was delicious!!! We both got salads that came with the lunch specials. They were fresh and cold, kept in the fridge prior to being served, and the dressing was perfect. I see the attention to detail in the salad, entrees and silverware selection and arrangement. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stop by if we are near the area. This place is hands down the best Thai food in the Texoma area and top three in North Texas. Nicko and his staff are just super and very professional. 4 star for Sherman, but not up to snuff compared to Plano/Carrollton, and it probably isn't the restaurant's fault... If that sounds odd, follow me on this one. Asian food in Sherman is pretty much limited to Americanized Chinese, Teppanyaki/Sushi and Teriyaki. Recently some very basic Pho has popped up at of all places a burger joint. All of that is pretty basic, safe stuff... definitely nothing spicy, and absolutely not curry of any sort. So it is obvious at first taste to anyone who is used to standard thai fair that the owners/chefs have adapted to their audience. (And they go to extremes to accommodate their customers!) It's not a guess. I learned a lot about the food and it's somewhat unique character from our absolute gem of a waitress. I wish I remembered her name. (I apologize to her if she hears about this.) She was the one Asian waitress with very stylish black glasses. Again, let me repeat, she was an absolute gem. When we ordered, she asked about heat level, and I said native Thai (a very common designation in DFW) and she immediately looked uncomfortable... and said so crazy? I opted for a 4-5 (crazy was beyond 5). She mentioned that it would be spicy but not "crazy"... yeah crazy is a theme with the name lol. So for the table we had the lunch special Thai fried rice level zero spice, and yellow curry level 1 spice for my mom and nephew respectively, gyoza as an appetizer for my 8 year old son and red curry level 4 spice for me. The food came quickly, starting with the house salad, which had a dressing that they made in house that I absolutely.... hated.... it was a very thick creamy strawberry, orange, whatever fruit salad sauce. Like a Texas church potluck, not remotely Thai (no mint, basil, chili...) Mom and nephew loved it, my son and I not so much. Ask for soup instead. Next came the fried spring rolls. Good, but standard. On to the main event. The gyoza were good and made in house, but had very little cabbage, no other vegetables. Fried rice? Pretty much standard Chinese restaurant style fried rice. (Because mom declined the tomato and didn't want the version with curry powder), the yellow curry was not bad, over sweet by a bit, but not bad. The red was off balance and way way way under spicy for a 4 star. My 8 year old even said that's not very hot. I noticed that in my "4" star hot curry, there were no fresh fresh peppers, other than bell peppers (forget even jalapeno, much less thai chilis, just a pile of crushed dried peppers in the center). This is where the trouble in food quality is. I am not some macho chilli head, I am just saying that without some level of heat the coconut milk in the curry is too sweet, and needs to be adjusted. They do, but the mix isn't quite right yet. Oddly enough when our (again, absolute gem of a waitress asked me about how the spice was, I mentioned that the 1 star yellow curry reminded me of a Japanese curry mildness wise (My Kid's favorite dish). and that 4 star was tasty but nowhere near the heat I expected, she said yes that's about right. When the restaurant opened several months ago they went with traditional heat levels, but customers were rather unprepared for it and they have been dialing back the heat to fit their customer wishes. If this sounds bad, well it isn't. Not at all. These people are doing their level best to introduce a local population largely unexposed to their food along gently. My nephew is vegetarian and they have made vegetarian versions including stock and sauce for him. They even will try Vegan if possible. (On the fly even!) Long review I know, but in sum, If you are Thai experienced and order the heat level you expect it's a 3.5. Add 1.5- two stars to the heat level (don't pick crazy, you can be granular and go 1-10) and suddenly the it tastes like what you expect according to a friend. Most importantly, they are trying very very hard to satisfy a community palate that is unaware. On the complaints about the price upgrades? Oh I get it. At first I was like 2 bucks extra for beef? Well yeah that is too much, but my chicken dish had 3x the typical amount of protein... way way way too much, but it fits the local audience, so maybe a meat upcharge makes sense. The $2 buck extra rice is part of trend of charging handsomely for extra steamed rice that is becoming common that I am not crazy about. (Old man yells at cloud gif here!) In any case, the service is great, the food is a little oversimplified but will be made to fit the more experienced diner if you know to ask. This is what an introduction to Thai should be. If you are a spicy fan add 1-2 stars. My 4 was a 2.5. Damn impressive for Sherman read more

I had passed this place up several times because the city sewage issues are just hard to get past (odor) in this shopping area but I am so glad that I did. I have the nose of a beagle as does my granddaughter so, most people don't notice. Seriously, though... We got the Hibachi Steak to go and it was so good that I can't wait to return. Solid choice. Nice, relaxing atmosphere, and friendly staff. Nothing was amazing, but it was all good. Do not go to a Mexican or Thai restaurant in north Texas and expect heat. Food had a good flavor, but not super spicy. Hubby and I shared the coconut chicken soup, Tom Kha. Great flavor and big bowl. We also shared the calamari. It was super tender. Loved the plum sauce. Man, I can't tell you how impressed I am with a hole in the wall restaurant. I'm pregnant and REALLY picky with food at the moment. I was looking for something quick and light to have for lunch today and the food was a 10/10!!! I would've posted a pic but it was devoured in minutes! I ordered the salmon teriyaki bento box which comes with the grilled salmon on the bed of salad. The dipping sauce for the spring rolls is the best, and the fried rice was a perfect addition to a balanced meal. I NEVER do reviews but I could eat this again and again. I'm not from Sherman but travel here often. The Peanut Chicken has good flavor. The peanut sauce is a bit thin; if it was thicker it would coat the food better and provide even more flavor. The staff is friendly and attentive. There were 5 other tables occupied when I dined and other patrons were telling the staff they liked the food too. They brought a small bowl of miso soup/broth before the meal and I found that nice. I will definitely be back and try the Pad Thai, Red Curry, and Masaman Curry, which are my other benchmarks for rating Thai food. I'd say its worth the trip. read more
