Really, really good! I got the chameleon roll with salmon. Excellent! The rolls are big and delicious! The only reason it's not 5 stars is because of the location. Parking is scarce and metered. If you're going to eat sushi in ABQ, eat at CRAZY FISH! Look, I get we're not on the coast, but Crazy Fish delivers fresh fish. If you're going to sushi, you're expecting to drop some serious dough. Crazy fish serves excellent portion sizes for the price and is definitely comparable to other sushi joints when it comes to cost. If you visit on a night when Berts is working, sit at the bar and ask him to make you a specialty roll off the menu. I've been eating at Crazy Fish for the past 4 or so years and I've never ordered a roll from the menu itself. All the chefs are talented, but Berts is my favorite. I always start with sashimi and then move on to something more substantial. I have never once been disappointed and force anyone who suggests sushi to try this spot! read more

You are crazy not to go here and try to Sushi. The family and I went there one time today and are making plans to go back already. They have something on the menu for everybody. They can custom each order just for you. The service is great. They are nice polite knowledgeable and willing to walk through each menu item with you if need be. Wish they did for my family and I because they did not have pictures on the menu. That is the only down side that I see is not having pictures on the menu but if you're true Sushi person you know what you want. Worst customer service by the young woman taking the orders, tried to add extra food to my order and got mad when i had told her that my order was wrong because i will not pay for something i didn't order. This place has become my favorite spot for sushi here in Albuquerque. came down for dinner and order salmon,albacore,tuna and yellowtail nigiri and the fish came out fresh and rice was done to perfection, than I notice they had tonkotzu ramen in the menu so I had to have a bowl, and "man" I have to say some of the most authentic ramen I've had tried on business trips, the owner k was super friendly and attentive we strike a great conversation as I mention to hem that sushi was my favorite food and i my self was a sushi chef for 10 years, will definitely comeback! read more

The remodeling, expansion, and new BBQ options at Crazy Fish make this place even better than it already was. Late in the fall of this year Kit, the owner, finished the remodeling of his Nob Hill hot-spot! Some of the awesome staff have been there since he opened up are still with Kit, and the place has grown with a bunch of new friendly and helpful faces also. Aside from the existing sushi and cooked dishes that they offer (and you should try them all), Crazy Fish now offers a Korean BBQ at your table. I was honored to be their first BBQ customer, unbeknownst to me until after the meal. We ordered drinks first, and while the grill heated up, the chef prepared meats, seafood, rice, and noodles into the portion dishes i took pics of. The grill cooks slow but steady, so you have time to talk as your food is cooking. The beauty of this is that as your food is cooked you can pick at it slowly over time (we took about 90 minutes start to finish) and it is actually fun working the grill together. Everything was quality, nothing was skimped on, and the wait staff was right there if we had any questions. My favs were the thinly sliced beef and pork and the short ribs, which we didn't realize were "short ribs" till the very last thing we put on the grill. Kit stopped by the table a few times and we finished our meal with a fried banana and chocolate ice cream treat. This was plenty of food, and priced fairly. I have eaten here a few times in the last two weeks and asked Dani when the BBQ was going to be available, so was really kewl to be the first. Crazy Fish needs to retrain their sushi chefs. Here's why: 1. The sushi rice was not seasoned. 2. Fish used for nigiri was so old it was chewy. 3. The rolls were bland and not rolled tightly enough and so were falling apart on my chopsticks. 4. The garnish (roe and sesame seeds) were slap dash and plate presentation was unappealing. read more

Crazy Fish had really good food with ample portions. Everything was fresh and definitely a good spot to grab lunch. Unfortunately, when we ordered hot tea it came out tepid. Luckily our waitress was able to get a new tea pot microwaved. Apparently there was an issue with the water in the kitchen. We also had an issue with them forgetting one of our orders. After 20 minutes we asked what the status was on our teriyaki and we were told it got, "lost in the mix." Our server brought the steak out 10 minutes later and provided a discount to our ticket but it was still a really long wait for a steak that shouldn't take more than 4 minutes a side to cook. The steak was well seasoned but not cut all the way through which made eating it with chop sticks or even a fork difficult without helping to tear it apart with our fingers. We arrived at around 6:20, got seated and drink orders with no issue. We then sat for 25 minutes with no one coming to take our orders. Another couple sat down about 20 minutes after us, got their order taken within 5 minutes of them being there. Crazy Fish has been around for such a long time, it's the first sushi shop I fell in love with in ABQ and overall I still dig what's coming out of this kitchen, but 20 minutes of a wait, just to order, broke my Cupid's bow. I'll throw out two basic maxims about dining out, here. Numero uno: Bad service ruins good food. Right? You could be served a platter of heaven, but if you wait forever to order, the food just doesn't suffice. Numero dos: Sushi servers have it easy. The Japanese figured out a pretty stealth approach to the whole service ordeal: give diners a piece of paper to order from, hand the sheet to the waiter, done. I mean, it's pretty easy. Get drink orders, bring out the food, keep the waters filled, finished. So yeah, we weren't thrilled with the lack of attention to our table, but we dealt with it. And getting back to wait staff responsibilities, here's a novel idea: when delivering the goods, how about identifying the rolls on the plates? Still probably the best sushi in Nob Hill. read more

The only reason this gets 4 stars instead of five is because of the service. PLEASE GET MORE SERVERS/HOSTESSES. The two girls that are the regular servers are so... so slow, and says things like "You'll just have to give me a minute, ok?" Dear Fellow Yelpers, For the first time ever, you let me down. While in ABQ for the Balloon Fiesta (an amazing experience for another review...) my boyfriend thought we ought to give a sushi place a try. "I'll look on Yelp!" I said, and quickly pulled up Crazy Fish, with reviews that made me think it might be the best sushi we would ever have short of Little Tokyo. Boy, was I wrong. The edamame was good at least. We ordered a spicy salmon roll, a New Mexico roll (crab, green chile, etc), a shrimp tempura roll, and a Vegas roll. When the waiter brought the rolls to the table, they LOOKED good. Everyone's sushi looked good when I walked by, too. But then I took a bite. I started with the Vegas roll, which was thick with tempura and didn't appear to have any seaweed holding it together. Could it be that the deep friend batter was holding all of the rice, cream cheese, and crab in place? No way. Yes way. It tasted like a grilled cheese sandwich with its thick breading and overstuffed cream cheese filling, which I guess wouldn't have been so bad, except that I'd ordered a Vegas roll. Pass. Next, I tried the New Mexico roll. I suspected that this would be similar to the Arizona rolls I've had in Tucson: essentially a California roll with a hint of the regional pepper to make it a bit more interesting. In Arizona, you get the spicy goodness of a jalepeno mixed in. The New Mexico roll meant green chile. Unfortunately, that's all I tasted. Again, not so bad, except that I ordered a sushi roll. The flavor lingered and didn't get better as time went on. Pass. Lastly, I tried the shrimp tempura roll. This was the roll that killed my appetite for sushi. It tasted like salt water, and not in a fresh seafood kind of way. It was the worst bite of sushi I've ever had. Even my boyfriend despised it, and he's the least picky eater I know. At this point, there was no way I was going to venture into the salmon roll. My boyfriend asked for the check, and when the waiter seemed shocked at how much we didn't eat, he asked what was wrong. My boyfriend said we just weren't into it. The waiter seemed pissed, but did remove my Diet Coke and our edamame from the bill. At the end of the evening, we ended up spending $35 for a few bites of sushi and some items from the Dollar Menu at Mcdonalds. Yes, Crazy Fish, drove me to McDonalds after my experience. And I hate McDonalds. On another note, do not be fooled when you hear the staff boast that they only use real crab meat in their sushi. This only means something when you can taste the crab and there is a sizable amount with the roll. I think that part of the problem with the lack of flavor was that they skimp on real crab rather than just use Krab. So that's how you betrayed me, Yelpers. The fish had bones and scales... and the texture/flavor of the rice was poor and off. Miso was ok. Hands down, worst sushi experience (for me) ever. So everybody knows, Crazy Fish is under new management and the new sushi chefs are friendly. I also had experienced a weird vibe from the very tall, quiet sushi chef that was there previously. As some other reviewers mentioned, it wasn't a very welcoming environment previously. On to the food: The garlic sashimi is definitely one of my favorites. The presentation of it and flavor is fantastic. Just make sure you aren't on a date when you order it! I also had the Dynamite Roll and some other basic rolls, all delicious. When you order their beef bento box, you get real new-york steak slices, which is a big treat. You pay more, but the cut of steak makes a huge difference. Service: Service was pretty moderate, not too bad, not too great. I think the cash register being in the back separates the customers from the servers, but I couldn't see it being anywhere else I suppose. Atmosphere: The atmosphere is pretty great. I like the red table tops with black seating. Makes it seem very exclusive when you walk in, a great place to take a date at night. I've been on the hunt for a great sushi place in Burque and I finally found Crazy Fish. I am fairly picky about sushi, so I had found most places in town to just be mediocre. It's never been super busy when I've come here, perhaps because I've only been here for lunch. I tried to come for dinner on my birthday, but they were closed due to an air conditioner malfunction. I'm not really into all the rolls, I like to keep the sushi experience simple, so this is really just about the nigiri and sashimi. We have several Sushi places in the local 505... Crazy Fish is centrally located in the heart of Alb! Nestled in the Knob Hill area, parking can be tricky at times, but well worth it. Food is ALWAYS delicious. Service is always on point. During this crazy winter time, sit by the southern facing windows to get that warm sun. We frequent this place. I came to CF about 4 months ago and the proprietor was preparing the food. It was simply some of the best sushi I'd ever had. Today, he didn't appear to be working. Squid & Seaweed salads were delicious. Cucumber Special Roll, also delicious but the yellowtail sashimi was served way too cold (nearly frozen in parts). Also, they should put something different on the television. Nobody wants to watch Chef Ramsey overhaul a disgusting kitchen on Kitchen Nightmares while eating sushi. This is my go to sushi joint when I travel to Albuquerque (been traveling here for the past year). It's located Nob Hill/UNM area right on Central so getting there is a breeze. There is street parking and it's free after 6:00pm. It's a simple restaurant that serves sushi. You can always find the owner in behind the sushi bar greeting you with a smile. Now to get to the fish, the cuts of fish are generous and fresh. If you're not sure what fish to get go ahead and ask Kit (the owner) and he'll let you know. The salmon and tuna are always fresh and so tasty. The Hamachi kama is delicious and baked perfectly. I also like the salmon skin hand roll. You'll get a free cup of miso soup too. So if you're looking for a solid place for sushi head up to crazy fish where the fish aren't crazy but they are fresh! read more

We came in for a birthday celebration and was really excited to try some sushi and any new items they could entice us with, however from the moment we walked in the two "Itame's" or I shall just say Sushi guys starred as we walked in, I was thinking I know I look incredibly fabulous but please don't make it obvious....lol just kiddin or do we look like monsters.....lol moving on to more Cra~Cra our server who came to our table was really very nervous and was sweating profusely which that totally through us off, we were concerned whether he may keel over at anytime while serving us, thankfully he didn't and was actually a very nice gentlemen. We ordered green teas to start along with Shrimp Tempura & Edamame all came out as they should. Than on to our main dishes ordered were Beef Yakisoba, Teriyaki Chicken Bowl and Fresh Fish Salad these dishes all were decent but not something that would bring us back for more. BTW we never ordered any Sushi at all because from the constant peculiar stares to the bizare funny farm type atmosphere there was no way in hell I was going to get sushi from them two... hate to be so harsh but all in all this was not a good birthday celebration that went down memory lane for the family. Solid fish for a moderate to expensive price tag. They have a decent selection of hot and chilled sakes. I went with a group of people and was ably to try a variety of things. I shared the sashimi platter and got a duo of nagiri albacore tuna. The albacore tuna was the most disappointing item I tried. The tuna roll covered in avocado was the best. There was some kind of noodle curry soup which was very flavorful. I would say you want to budget 25-50$ a head coming here. Service was excellent. Fish was between 3 and 4 stars. Came here about two weeks ago with a friend from Santa Fe who asked me to find a super great sushi place in town. Well, I didn't do any research at all and decided I'd drive him down central until I found the first sushi place I could see. Crazy Fish won. The restaurant was kind of cold and overall, I wouldn't rate the food to be all that outstanding. There was an extremely undesirable fishy taste, which I'm assuming isn't so good. Don't get me wrong, I dont find fish to be an undesirable taste at all.. unless it's not all that fresh. The bathrooms are weird. When we went there was some odd japanese lesson going on over the speakers. My friend was startled because he though someone else was in the bathroom at first. Totally creepy. The service though was great and they didn't mind that we sat for a bit to wait out a little rain storm. But, regardless of the good service, it's still unlikely that I'd frequent this place. There's a LOT of sushi places in town and perhaps I'll have to explore further. read more
