Sakura Sushi peaked my interest bc they serve Lao/Thai cuisine and sushi. We went for lunch around opening and it wasn't busy. We were greeted right away and chose to sit closer to the back table near the bathroom. We promptly ordered waters bc I knew I wanted to try a few things. We were kind of indecisive, but when we ordered, the food would arrive promptly as well. We started with the Soft Shell appetizer (~$10). It was nicely breaded and fried and covered in spicy mayo sauce, topped with shredded radish garnish, on top of sliced cucumbers for freshness. Then, ordered Lao-style Papaya salad (~$12) medium spicy. It came out perfectly with fermented crab paste and accompanied with pork rinds and cabbage. Only thing I forgot to ask was sticky rice, but maybe next time. We also ordered Shrimp Pad Thai (~$17) medium, which also tasted yummy. Finally, we ordered Dragon Roll with Spicy Tuna (~$24) and Hawaiian Roll (~$17). Everything tasted fresh and tasty. Overall, great experience. The owners are very inviting and accommodating. They speak Lao, which made me feel like home. I like the attention to detail on the dishes. The prices are a little steep, but understandably bc times are hard now. I'm grateful I get a taste of home. The Dragon Roll is really impressive bc they give you a lot of eel. The portions are decent and filling. I will definitely be back! read more

This was our first time here and we enjoyed it. We started with the calamari. The tempura was light and it was cooked well. The only down side was the batter kept falling off. No biggie. The miso soup was just okay for us. We ordered 2 California rolls. One tiger. One unagi and one Albuquerque (the green chile was tasty and had some heat). They were all big and really flavorful. We are new to Albuquerque but found this little sushi place. When you pull into the parking lot it looks like it may not be open. But it IS open. The owner greeted us and helped us with our order. Holy Moly this place is good! The fish is supa fresh and the prices are decent. They have multiple choices for sake. I got the Hana Apple and it was amazingly delicious. I ordered nigiri yellow tail and unagi and they were huge pieces of fish! The rolls were also great. I ordered a Philadelphia roll and the salmon pieces inside were huge! I also tried the Red Lady which is a green child tempura roll topped with crab, mayo, and spice sauce. Wow everything was to die for. The service was outstanding also. All you can eat sushi was good. The service was also good. Not my favorite place to get sushi but still a decent choice if you are feeling like eating ALOT. The place was clean and the servers were great. I think if you can eat alot it is worth it but we didn't save much. It's 28.99 each and we ordered 9 rolls for 4 people. They said the specialty rolls were 14.99 each so we basically saved money on one roll. Three of the rolls were so so. The rest were good but I have had way better and they only cost me $8 a roll. Had a hankering for Japanese this past weekend, so I pulled up all the nearish spots open on a Sunday and checked out the reviews and the menus, deciding on Sakura for its location and variety. One thing that really sealed the deal for us was that they offer tofu with several of their entrees, while some other places in town only let you have meat with your curry, yakisoba, etc. We got the mixed veggie tempura appetizer, an order of yakiniku with tofu, and 3 maki rolls: avocado, kampyo, and an Albuquerque roll. Everything was delicious, and arrived well packaged for takeout. The veggie tempura made it all the way home and was still crunchy and yummy, which really impressed me. One downside is that it didn't come with a dipping sauce (other than the soy sauce packets in the bag), so we looked up a recipe for tempura dipping sauce and mixed up our own on the fly. The mixed veggies included broccoli, squash, sweet potato, green chile, and a jalepeno. It was a good size - nice for 2 to split as a relatively hearty appetizer. The yakiniku was my first time trying this dish, described from a google search as being a mildly spicy bbq marinade. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it came with broccoli and carrot, making it more well rounded than simply a bunch of tofu. The tofu was well prepared. The portion size was generous, as was the side of rice that went with it. We wound up with leftovers for lunch the next day - never a bad thing in my book! It was fairly oily - I didn't have an issue with this but it might not be everyone's cup of tea. And I think this is probably how it's supposed to be prepared (and may not be as noticeable with a meat compared to the fried tofu. The rolls were also great! They came with a generous scoop of wasabi and plenty of ginger. The avocado and kampyo were maybe 1/3 the size of the Albuquerque roll (tempura green chile, avocado, and cucumber with spicy mayo on top), which was massive. Overall I was super impressed with the ease of ordering over the phone and paying when I arrived, and with the quality and quantity of food we got. I will certainly be ordered from here again and exploring more of the menu! The only thing I would change is that I wish they didn't use styrofoam. read more

I brought my kids in as a treat for myself on Father's day. We really enjoyed the appetizers, especially the green chili as well as the chicken wings, which was a delightful surprise. The dipping sauces that come with them are perfect. The sushi rolls were okay and the sashimi was on point, so we were happy with those as well. The shrimp tempura was also okay, but had more batter than shrimp. The staff was patient, polite, and attentive; perfect. I've been told by those in the know that we need to come back to try the Thai and Loation food, so we'll definitely be back when I can bring someone with me who will also enjoy those. I did really enjoy my Thai iced coffee, but I'm looking forward to the Thai food as well. read more

First time visit and like most Japanese restaurants here, for some inapplicable reason, they don't have a sushi/sashimi assorted plate. You have to order 6 or 12 of the same fish. My wife ordered two sixes and I ordered two different sashimi sixes, so it was ok. Saying that, all the sashimi was super fresh and thickly cut. Very enjoyable. The have a 10% cash discount so that was nice. Very polite wait staff. read more

On a recent weekend visit, Sakura Sushi did not disappoint. My guests and I ordered a bottle of the super premium Tyku Junmmai Ginjo sake, sipping as we perused the menu. There's a good selection of dishes here, including some South Asian fare not seen at the average sushi joint. I knew it was a trap, but ordered the green chile egg rolls anyway. They were okay. Not the best part of the meal, and not really worth the cost. Our main course was much more enjoyable. We shared the Yellow Fellow roll, a HUGE sushi roll featuring yellow tail, avocado, and cucumber, topped with roe and yet more yellowtail. It requires a huge mouth to eat one full piece, so consider multiple bites/cutting up each piece if you have a tiny mouth. I loved the atmosphere here, and the frosted windows made it feel like we weren't in Albuquerque anymore. I'm excited to come again and explore more of the menu. read more

We ordered way too much as usual, but you do get 10% off if you pay with cash, so there's that! The sashimi was surprisingly fresh (we don't have the highest expectation for sushi here, to be honest) and the rolls were generous. As with many places, the rolls kind of end up tasting the same after a few bites. We just need to be more conscious of ordering simpler rolls so that the fish can shine, rather than being covered in some sort of sauce. Fabulous food. Everything I have tried here I have loved. Small mom and pop kind of place. The service is wonderful. I love the charm of eating sushi, egg rolls and Pad Thai all at the same time. It is good for groups, especially if you go in off peak hours. I would not suggest bringing kids, ethnic food is not necessarily a hit with them. There is a small selection of beer and wine. I especially recommend the plum wine. It is delicious. The bathrooms are each a toilet and sink behind a door. I think you could easily use whatever one you prefer. read more

She was so sweet and we chatted about how they could really use the business and she emphatically thanked us for ordering. Restaurants have it hard these days and we do what we can to try and help. I went here with someone a few weeks ago. The sushi was good, the nigiri was really good- I had never had such big pieces of fish for nigiri! It was fresh, too. We also had shrimp tempura, which was yummy. Our sushi came with miso soup,which was also good! The place was very small, though. My favorite sushi in New Mexico. The Viagra Salad and Spicy tuna salad are complete, perfect , crave-worthy meals in themselves. The tangy dressing, crunchy greens , avocado, and delicious tuna always make me happy. I can't go a full two weeks without driving across town to this wonderful place. The Dragon roll has a full piece of unagi on top and for $2 more you can get a spider roll , or shrimp tempura roll inside instead of a California roll. I have not tried the Laotian food ( I learned that many dishes we think of as Thai are truly from Loas).
