We went on Mom's Day. My son and I visit about once a year. In the past, the sushi's been good and this restaurant has been a reliable, neighborhood restaurant but not a standout. However, this time, I feel like things have improved. I ordered the miso soup, the Rio Grande Roll and salmon sushi. My husband ordered the Japanese Curry. He raved about his meal, loved it. My soup was steaming hot, pet peeve: I don't like lukewarm soup. It's like lukewarm tea: take it away. My roll was so good, melt in the mouth, mixed with the crunchy tempura green chile. My salmon: perfect. I don't like it when my salmon is tough. This sushi was so fresh and tender. The service was friendly and just the right amount of attentive. Nice job, Tamashi. I got there 49 minutes before closing because I didn't realize they closed at 9 so I thought I would be rushed but all the staff were super friendly and one of the chefs brought me a generous sample of the eel over rice. So the food was only ok. Very expensive for what you get. The service was very slow but they were nice. Just bring water right away it's the desert. The floor was very dirty, lots of food and napkin pieces and random trash. The bathroom was dirty and had lots of graffiti too. I was very disappointed. Just coming in the front door it was dirty. Husband was in the mood for sushi so we headed over to one of our favorites. Busy but not super busy tonight. Service was less than stellar (had to ask for small plates, soy sauce boat, napkins, I actually got up myself to get the low sodium soy sauce for my husband) BUT! The rolls were delicious as well as the chai tea. I highly recommend the OMG roll. Pieces were huge and difficult to maneuver but the ingredients came together perfectly. It's been a while since I have gone, but the combinations they had were so flavorful. There's just one where they put it in foil light in a fire that caught our attention and wasn't just for show. The flavor was on point. Plenty of parking and definitely plenty of seating inside. Just writing a review I think we're gonna be heading there this weekend. I'm so glad we found this place! After living in Albuquerque for the past year and trying a number of sushi restaurants, we've finally found a great one. The ingredient quality at Tamashi is exceptional. The rolls are delicious and come out quickly. Our drinks were quickly refilled without us having to ask and the service attentive. The Sex and the City roll, which Tamashi lists as their most popular, was crunchy and fresh. I loved the crunchy bits on top, which are a Tamashi proprietary recipe. This is officially my favorite sushi place in Albuquerque and I'm glad we tried it. The price tag on some of the specialty rolls put us off from trying it a bit ago, but it's filling and completely worth it. Go check it out! read more

I was the only customer at the time and just feel like the service could have been better. My server was nice but I ordered the hot chai and I feel he could have been more attentive to the quality of the product. The chai was barely warm. Even my Tonkatsu soup was warm and not giving the impression of freshly hot or freshly made. There were no other customers but in between times of checking on me I noticed him just standing around playing on his cell phone. I think folks should put their cell phones away at work and find opportunities to be fully engaged with what they need to do and be aware of what's going on around them at work, hence keeping the hot beverages hot. We felt very rushed by the waitress, as if she couldn't be bothered to take our order. She would stick around for about three seconds before walking off. I thought they overdid the noodles compared to the amount of veggies in the beef yaki udon. The meat was mostly thin sliced fat with hardly any meat, if any at all. The spicy pork ramen had tasty broth. We recommend trying it. I'll admit that I was slightly disappointed but the sushi saved the day! We come here every Friday for date night. The first time we visited we felt at home. The service is excellent. The sushi chefs always greet us when we come in. This is a super cute place right off of Unser by the Sonic (and my dentist) next door to Neighbors. My hubby and I tend to go to Sakura for sushi but wanted to try a new spot. We walked in and it is cool and modern. The waitperson told us to pick a spot we wanted to sit and they followed. I loved this because my hubby and I were eyeing a seat at the bar. We arrived at 5pm and only two other tables were occupied. The person who sat us was also our waiter. Super friendly and attentive! We both got waters and shared a pot of hot lemon and ginger rooibos tea! Cute little pot and cups and the tea is from New Mexico Tea Company, which is downtown off Mountain and 12th across from Cocina Axum. Super delicious tea! We ordered the Red Rock appetizer which was fried rice with spicy tuna on top! YUM! We ordered our go to's: maki tuna roll, spicy tuna and avocado roll and we tried the Sesame Street specialty roll. Everything tasted fresh and really good. Spicy tuna was spot on, tuna maki was excellent and the Sesame Street was good with interesting flavors. It has spicy tuna, yellowtail and sesame seeds and a sesame sauce. For dessert we had fried banana ice cream. Which is tempura bananas and vanilla ice cream. Yummy again! The folks that work here are great! I overheard the sushi chef say he's been making sushi since he was 16!! It shows! Thanks Tamashi! We said we will be back and we definitely will!! read more

Rating 2 stars after taking everything into account. Atmosphere is pleasant, I really enjoyed the music they were playing. Clean inside and well kept. The service was mediocre. My daughter and I were 1st in at opening. They seated us then a few minutes later a party of 3 came In and was seated and started their ordering first. Second, when the server brought my daughter her spicy ramen, the tip of her thumb was in the soup. Lastly, my food came out 10 minutes before my daughter's ramen, started to think they forgot hers. Finally came out (thumb in soup). Now the food, this is where it took an unfortunate turn.... We ordered the shrimp tempura which was so oily and greasy it was nearly inedible. My daughter ramen had so much sesame oil in it was all we could taste. I ordered the beef udon and it was ok, nothing to write home about. I didn't even box up what was left, which was a lot. Went today to check our Tamashi on the Westside after loving the Heighta location. The space is very open and bright and the seating is super comfortable. Our service was also great- our server was very attentive, gave suggestions, and also would check in with updates while waiting on our food. We started with the avocado bomb- the combination of textures and flavor is spot on. We also had the OMG roll, tiger roll, and two individual sushi with yellow tail and squid. All of them were excellent! The squid was a little tough but the white tail melted in your mouth. We will definitely be back! read more

Cool sushi restaurant on the Westside in a clean, bright modern type setting. The service was outstanding. They have an extensive cocktail and food menu. I started off with a Plum Fashioned cocktail which is their take on an Old Fashioned. It was very good. We started off with Spicy Tina Bites as an appetizer and it was very good. I had the Mr. Kim which is a Tamashi Signature Roll. It has spicy salmon in a roll topped with tuna and salmon. It also was very good. My wife had the Tamashi Bento Box which has an assortment of food including California roll, tempura, salad and a protein served over rice. I'm sad to say, the quality of the sushi at the Westside Tamashi is nothing like the excellent quality of sushi at Tamashi on Paseo in the heights. First of all, I'm not a fan of cutting corners. All of the sushi rice was preformed, which yields a hard and dry ball of rice that the fish won't stick to. Sushi rice should be sticky, not crunchy and dry. The fish was NOT good...the consistency of the salmon was mushy, and the tuna and yellowtail were both sinewy and hard to chew; I had to spit it out. The pieces of fish were also tasteless. (Were they unloading their old stock before bringing out their fresher cuts?) The atmosphere is ok, but maybe for lunch, not a nice dinner vibe. It's too much like the Bon Chon the space used to be. It was a big turn off hearing rap music while we were trying to eat. The only positive thing I have to say, is that the entire wait staff were very friendly and our glasses were always full. read more
