This review title says the Stony Brook location but that's my mistake. We were at the Greenport site. My wife spent summers growing up on Shelter Island and came to the Greenport location often when it was the Coronet. Crazy Beans is a gigantic improvement. Three of us arrived at about 11:30am. One ordered blueberry pancakes with sausage and another order the breakfast egg sandwich with came on enormously thick slices of bread. I was going to order French Toast when a saw the menu listed the Juicy Lucy, a burger stuffed with cheese and topped with bacon. Not your average cheeseburger. Everything was just delicious. My one complaint is my pet peeve. The french fries were coated and I don't like that at all. It's easy to make crispy fries without resorting to artificial ways to do it. Went to Crazy Beans for lunch. The wait was about 1/2 hour. Well worth it. I had the pulled pork panini which was delicious. My 2 daughters had the crabby melt. Both of them devoured their sandwiches. My son had the Mac n Cheese- cheesy and delicious. My youngest daughter had the French toast sticks and my wife had the avocado BLT. I have eaten here a few times and each time it has been pretty enjoyable. The location and atmosphere are excellent, fun and convenient. The food is very good, prices are fair. The service has for the most part been friendly and attentive enough. Although, there have been a few occasions I feel that the staff is in over their heads. A couple of the waitresses have seemed very overwhelmed to me, once messing up an order that my friend gave and not apologetic about it, just kind of frazzled. HORRIBLE PLACE!! My friends and I are very hard workers for our money, and we were SCAMMED!!! The bill was $57. We left our OVER 20% tip at the table, and I went to the register to pay with a $40 visa gift card and $20 cash. The nasty woman at the register claimed the card had no balance, yet we confirmed with visa there was $40 on it. After this, we went to pay $67, to get more change for tip. This woman took the money and did not give change. I was standing there, waiting for my change for the $57 that I only needed to pay for the bill, and while standing she stated "Why are you standing here?". I explained I need my change of $10 and she humiliated us by lying and saying we underpaid her, and saying how she would pay the few cents balance that she claims we didn't pay. Where did my $10 go? We were completely scammed and humiliated. At no point was I disrespectful to this woman. I will never give this place money again. Customers do not deserve to be treated this way. People around us were in shock by the way she treated us. read more

Got a couple sandwiches to go (Pulled Pork Panini and Avocado BLT) and after my 5 minutes drive home they were essentially soup. Crazy Beans is a staple in the surrounding area, and for a good reason. The food is delicious, the employees are friendly, and it's conveniently located in picturesque, quiet Stony Brook Village. It's cash-only, but there is an ATM inside the building. The building itself looks quaint from the outside, and the inside has an old-timey, almost fifties feel. There are a ton of different coffee and tea flavors to accompany the comprehensive menu. The prices are a bit high, but the quality of the food keeps me coming back, if slightly less often than otherwise would. I had to wait for a table for about ten mins even though i saw plenty of empty tables. My waitress took our order. I don't know if she forgot about us or what but We waited over 40 minutes for our food. At this point all the other tables had come in after us and were eating their meals. So I used to LOVE Crazy Beans and I still love their coffee and sides but I can no longer eat eggs or dairy which breaks my heart because I used to LIVE for the gouda apple grilled cheese. That being said, the vegan/dairy free options suck. Go to Toast, Local's, or Tiger Lily in Port Jeff instead. The chickpea salad wrap isn't really that great and the hummus wrap is literally an entire tub of hummus wrapped in a tortilla with a small amount of spinach and roasted red peppers from a jar. When people order a hummus wrap they expect mostly crunchy veggies and a generous spread of hummus on the wrap, not literally eating mouthfuls of hummus. Its nauseating. All of the rest of their food is unbelievably amazing, so I dont understand how they can have such unappealing items on their menu for vegetarians who cant have cheese or vegans. Our baby was getting hungry and cranky and I just gave them heads up that she would be crying and screaming and may annoy other customers. The hostess's answer was "that's okay. We don't care." So anyway we waited over an hour. Their food is great but this place is extremely busy....We have asked the waitress to prioritize our baby's food but she was busy doing her own stuff. It was apparent that our waitress was avoiding our table. My husband called her several times to get her attention but she didn't wanna make eye contact with him and she went to clean the table next to us. Crazy Beans in Stony Brook used to be amazing. It would be packed with a wait but was so worth it. I recently went back in 4/29/18 and was surprised that it was so empty on a Sunday morning at 1030. When we got seated we began to see why. The restaurant is filthy. Staff was nice, but slow. For being rather empty, it took us unusually long to get our food. The food was unremarkable this time.
