One of our favorite pastimes on road trips is picking local businesses to stop at wherever we're going to be around lunchtime (this Yelp thing helps a lot). It helps us avoid eating awful (and surprisingly expensive) fast food, and we can usually find a gem or two. Lately, we've been passing through Utica, and Craylee's is a GEM. The folks running this place are so darn nice. I never say darn, but I feel like they might say darn, so I'm saying it here. They are fast, and friendly, and brought our little girls actual, nice coloring books, and their very own crayon case with like 200 crayons instead of the stumpy red and blue crayon and one sheet of paper you might get at a chain place. The space is nothing crazy, but it's thoughtfully decorated with some small homey touches like string lights that make it feel lived in. Infinitely better than a Thruway McDonald's. Best of all, the food is excellent. It's just a local, tasty diner menu, but they're putting care and love into the food. My kids rolled with chicken fingers and fries (huge surprise there), but my Hannah's Special (a two egg breakfast with a piece of french toast) was everything I wanted it to be. I did have to make a lot of decisions (overeasy, hash browns, rye, sausage links), but I aced them all, and so did the kitchen. The biggest surprise was my wife's turkey club melt, which was legitimately amazing. We talked about it for an embarrassingly long time in the car afterward. I'm going to want this again. Craylee's is doing it right, and we'll be back when we roll through Utica again.

Hit on all aspects. Decided to try a local place on our drive through Utica. Free parking on the street. Great specials. They have a cool section on the menu called a little of everything or something like that. Perfect for the person who has trouble making up their mind. My wife said the corn beef hash was awesome and I tried the Country Fried Steak. It was really good. Nice strong coffee too! Highly recommend if you are looking for a breakfast experience in Utica!

Breakfast

Quiet, inviting atmosphere on a Friday AM (0900). Jennifer brought coffee straight away and gave me a few minutes with the menu. I wanted a waffle, eggs, bacon and toast so instead of charging me for those separately, she changed my order to take advantage of some specials. Wasn't necessary but really appreciated. Waffle was perfect, bacon was crispy but not brittle. Eggs weren't over-medium but they were close. Overall, a great breakfast and Jennifer ROCKED! Thanks for helping this weary biker prep for a cold ride this morning! Stop in and check this gem of a place out! Craylee's! You won't regret it!

Another fantastic breakfast at Craylees. Arrived just after they opened to hopefully beat the crowd and it worked out - quick service and fantastic coffee to start. We ordered the Italian omelet and a special from the board...cannoli filled pancakes. Holy sweet the pancakes didn't need syrup they were so rich! The omelet was very good, loved the greens and cheese melted over the top. Nice quiet and quick breakfast.

I love going to Craylee's! The food is always great (if they have a stuffed French toast on their specials, get it!) Staff is always friendly and service is quick. It's a cozy spot and is typically busy, but not loud. Highly recommend!

Great food and superb service. It does get loud in here but it's a cool vibe. The mushroom omelette was great tasting and cooked perfect just as was the eggs Benedict.

Have been there 4 times for breakfast and it has been consistantly good. The servers are sweet even when hustling and the coffee is very good.

I love a good hometown restaurant where you're inclined to run into someone you know every time you visit. This was my first visit to Craylee's and I don't know anyone in Utica, but I was still treated as though I'm "one of them." Our server, who I believe is the owner, was friendly and conversational. I loved that I could stay on keto while eating at this place and told her that. She mentioned that her husband had also done keto and lost a lot of weight, so they understood the importance of having choices when you go out to eat. It was a snowy, crappy day in the midst of Covid, so the place wasn't as full as I expect it normally is. My husband and I enjoyed our visit, though, and will definitely be going back.

We sat ourselves per the signs directions. Our server had pep, personality & a quick sense of humor... I did not catch her name. Food coming out was a bit slow. Have patience. I was served quite possibly the fluffiest, lightest, tastiest FRESH & HOT vegetarian omelet ( no peppers sub onions ) a perfectly cooked hardy omelet. The cheese was a "3 cheese blend". The edges of this omelet were perfectly "crisped " cheeses. I highly recommend stoping by for an enjoyable omelet experience. Also, while this omelet was slow in delivery, the care, pride & love taken to create this were more then apparent, when this eye popping omelet was STILL steaming hot 10 minutes into dining in it. I eat slowly as well. Be PATIENT, take a look around the staff in hustling. Well worth the wait!! I would drive up here from Ithaca for a TRULY excellent breakfast! Worth the wait. Great waitstaff. Hustling ASS! You could hear the noises of a BUSY kitchen. Having been in the BOH for 30 years & an expieranced vendor you know those noises. HIGHLY reccommed. There was some nice tables outside too but it was a bit cold. The staff was seriously killing it for how busy it was and doing it with a smile. I started with a absolutely delicious iced apple butter latte. For my meal I was looking for a combo of sweet and savory not realizing how generously large the portions were for the price (which is amazing). Needless to say I took quite a bit home. I had the breakfast pizza with added vegetables and the "Made in Utica Crepe" which came with a whole freaking cannoli on top.... it was one of the favorite breakfasts I have ever had anywhere. My friends thoroughly enjoyed their meals and different coffees at well. If you are not looking to dine in you can order simple pastries from the vast case or coffees to go. I took home some cream puffs for my family which were delicious and large. Cant wait to come back here again and again when I am in town!

The café is located right next to Nancy Ford Photography. It can be a bit difficult to spot due to limited visibility, but parking itself is not an issue. There are shared slanted parking spots in front with neighboring businesses, as well as additional parking available behind the restaurant, which is convenient once you know it is there. The interior is hip, bright, and welcoming. Seating is somewhat limited, but despite that, we were always able to find a place to sit without having to wait. The space feels modern and casual, suitable for a relaxed breakfast or brunch. The food was good overall and service was fast. We ordered the Pancake Board, Spin Art, and a veggie omelette. The Spin Art was my favorite. It was soft, flavorful, and melted in the mouth. The Pancake Board was extremely well executed and fun to share, and the veggie omelette was solid. Coffee, however, was not their strongest item. One nice touch is that water is free and self-serve, which is always appreciated. It can get crowded inside on Saturdays, and since there is no outdoor seating, the moderate ambient noise from other customers makes it less ideal for long conversations or quiet chats. Doug, the owner, was friendly and genuinely eager to help when I had an issue using my $5 off "cupcake points." Although he was not able to resolve it immediately, he did eventually figure it out, so I will be using the coupon on my next visit. Overall, this is a solid local spot with good food, efficient service, and a welcoming vibe. Recommended, especially if you plan ahead for peak weekend hours. Keep up the good work, Knead to Eat Bakery & Cafe.
