A fantastic no-frills little breakfast/ lunch diner in downtown Utica. Delicious food at reasonable prices and friendly service. Its a one man operation as the owner is the chef and waiter so if it fills up, you may have to wait a bit but its worth it. We were fortunate to have the place to ourselves at the time we went and the owner/chef, Jeff, was a great host with many personal stories about the history of Utica and his personal colorful past. We had his stuffed French toast which was awesome and some eggs. The coffee and tea are self serve and there are seats at the counter and a couple tables. The place only seats around 16 people but he assured us that he occasionally gets many more in there at a time. If you're looking for a great breakfast or lunch during the week (its closed on weekends) and don't need any frills, this is the place to go. We'll definitely be back! read more

Smallest diner I've ever eaten in. No bathroom. Cook/owner was friendly. Ordered the homemade corned beef hash with cheddar cheese and 2 eggs over medium. The hash was good with real large pieces of chewy corned beef. The eggs were undercooked with the whites still not cooked through. The side of French toast I ordered has an unpleasant char taste from the grill and had the little egg tabs that come from not properly draining the egg-dipped bread before throwing on the hot grill. The maple syrup was real and plentiful. Enjoyed the company of the cook and a regular customer, but was sad to realize I could have cooked the eggs and French toast better myself. read more

Went to Utica, for the first time, to see a concert at the Stanley. We found Golden's on Yelp . What a find! Everything made from scratch, old school style! Great food and great coffee. The owner/chef made our food and was great to talk to. Will go back if we go to Utica again, for sure! read more

I have been so many times I had to just put them all in one pose, but my first time I tried the "George-alicious" - originally named after a regular customer but customized and upgraded to add a little more pop My Instagram: Pat.Stacks -A fresh 8oz burger with caramelized onions and bacon in a grilled cheese - Hand-cut, homemade shoe string french fries tossed in popcorn salt, fresh squeezed lemon juice and turmeric Even one half of the burger was sooo filling and the fries were definitely something different! This place is amazing. First of all the owner is great and a hard worker! He is so creative with specials of the day which are amazing. Small place but it adds to the atmosphere with a little jazz music thrown in to boot. The sausage is homemade and I highly highly recommend it. The food was excellent - intense lemon (real) on/in the crepe and the Cannoli Crepe was great. Coffee fresh and tasty too. All home made food, incredible taste. Daily specials (check facebook). Small place right in the triangle downtown Utica. Not a lot of seating do we go on off peak hours. Can't wait to go back and eat more of this great food. Vegan Friday specials too. My wife and I were in town and looking for a great place for breakfast. Yelp once again treated us right. Golden's is a find for breakfast. We came in early and were the only two in the place, which gave us the chance to have a nice talk with Jeff, the owner, while he was preparing our delicious breakfast. Just had lunch here for the very first time. What a great little secret! Don't be fooled when you walk it in appears modest but the food is fantastic. I could not decide what to get so ordered UC steak and steak sandwich and split it. Both phenomenal and the fresh cut fries with lemon exploding with flavor. My absolute favorite restaurant in the area. Yes, I went to Ocean Blue and Tailor and that place on the water, but Golden's is the one I want to return to. The crepes and omelets are amazing. It's the first restaurant I've been to that feels like visiting a camp at Burning Man. My husband had a smash burger and fries. The burger was so good and juicy....nothing remotely like a fast food burger. The fries are hand cut and delicious. Great coffee too. Come in and try his new steak sandwich named The Heist. If you know where he's located, you'll understand the name. Otherwise drop in, order one and ask about the name. The prices are reasonable, just don't expect fancy. The place isn't very big or trendy, but the food is great, the place is clean and the owner is friendly and welcoming. I'm new to the area from Saratoga Springs, I must say this place might change my opinion of Utica so far. The chef was so personable and kind. I really felt welcomed. The guy is super knowledgable about food so for that reason it's not a normal diner. Everything here is fresh and handmade nothing frozen. Traditional diner food but actually wholesome not greasy. If your vegan or gf come here first. The food itself was incredibly good. I had potatoes, sausage the chef made himself and chives from his garden. So good and I don't feel weighed down by grease.
