I came here around noon on a Saturday for lunch. No wait at all. As others have said, it is a bit far from the center of town, it just depends how willing you are to drive for crawfish. I'd say these were some well-seasoned crawfish. My husband, sister and I ordered 10 lb ($45!) to split between the three of us. Medium spicy (because the spice can build up). Next time I'd probably go for a bit spicier though...the spices, while tasty, were not hot enough for our tastes. We added on the potatoes, corn, mushrooms and sausage. The potatoes and mushrooms were great, no complaints there. I'd probably pass on the sausage next time, but the others liked it. It was a jalapeno sausage and had lots of flavor. However, the corn was really overcooked or undercooked. Some pieces were hard and crunchy, others were soft and mushy. Which brings me to the main reason for the A-OK review...the crawfish were a bit overcooked as well. You can tell when the meat kinda sticks to the shell. The waitresses are hard to get ahold of, even at slower times. You might want to catch their attention while you can to ensure that you have a filled drink. Bottom line, I wanted to like them because the seasoning was tasty and the price was great, but I might check out some other places before coming back. I believe the price was about $4.95 per pound. We got there early and there was no line, but I hear the lines get super long. I ordered a gumbo as well, but didn't really love it. Service was good and although it is outdoors (kind of) there was an awesome breeze coming in. You can bring your own beer or wine, so take advantage!! A cathedral of mudbug love and, for sure, this place hums and vibrates happiness. Spiciness of the 'dads is supposed to vary from mild to searing. Couldn't say for sure. Them mud bugs are boiled to perfect doneness. I've tasted 'dads cooked in concoctions which are loaded with cloves, or allspice or other spices. Today, is super bowl Sunday. I left my home at 3:30 to ensure that I could be home in time for my guest to be able to have the crawfish shack crawfish as a side item. I called in advance to find out if the crawfish relatively a large size. I was told yes. The line was very long but I didn't care. However, I ordered 10 lb of crawfish 5 lb of medium spice and 5 lb of spicy. When they handed me the bags I thought this cannot be 5 lb but physically who knows. My wife has scales to allow us to know to the ounce How much stuff weighs. So immediately I weighed them. The medium crawfish that was extra small by the way, weighed 3.72 lbs the spicy crawfish weighed 3.61 lbs. It's the super bowl what should I do bring them back. Not possible. I don't know if this was done on purpose. But if it was shame on you, if it was not recalibrate your scales. I haven't seen much smaller crawfish ever by the way. I'm so disappointed. Drove all the way out to Crosby from Houston to try this place and it was worth it! We got here just after noon and the place was already starting to fill up. The concept is simple and open with a bunch of picnic tables. Simple and easy. The staff is friendly and the service is good. It is also BYOB! We ordered two pounds of medium each with potatoes and they came out super fast. The other Yelpers are not lying, these babies are huge! Like full size of my hand huge with large juicy tails and claws worth breaking into. The crawfish were already flavorful, but the seasoning that is on the table is the cherry on top. It is also awesome on the potatoes (and the corn, I'm sure). All in all, the Crawfish Shack was definitely worth the drive and we will be back! read more

I'm so saddened that I waited so long to check this place out! I saw this was their last week so I went ahead and made the drive from SW Houston to Crosby! Made it about 8pm. I was not disappointed! The crawfish and Crab legs were EXCELLENT! I enjoyed the sides and appreciated the fact that they had real sausage and not the fake bologna tasting one. I will admit I did not care for the shrimp but everything else was on point! Customer servicr was great and even though it was packed and super busy my waitress stayed on top of it and was so respectful. I even bought some of their seasoning to take back home. What can I say that hasn't been said already. Loads of crawfish at the best prices. There is better seasoned Crawfish in the Houston area but Still remains the best of the byob joints. If you haven't tried the mushrooms which I noticed most people haven't get them they are delicious. I'm used to juicy and spicy crawfish that have been marinated in juices. These crawfish were hard, dry and the seasoning was on top of the shell. Personally I was not a fan but they must be doing something right if there's a huge crowd outside. Estimated 2 hr wait when we came at 1:30 pm and seated around 3:15 pm (drive down the street to John E's to grab a drink and some appetizers while you wait). I don't know how wanting to order 15 lbs turned into you might as well order 17 lbs, but if you order 17 lbs, it's almost the same price as ordering 20 lbs. So 20 lbs it was. The crawfish was overly salty since they sprinkle so much seasoning on top. We had a good amount of broken claws in the tray which was also pretty annoying. The service was quick to order and to get our first batch of 5 lbs but after that our waitress was MIA. What took even longer was waiting for the remaining 7 lbs we asked for to go after we paid and were ready to leave. Come knowing you will have to wait, byob so drink up to bypass the time, chug some water to offset the salt intake, sit back and get dirty. Would I come back, definitely not. When I go to places like the Crawfish Shack, it makes me happy to live OTL! Why you ask? So I can get here faster! I recently put together a UYE at the Shack and the owners and staff were awesome with providing me info prior to the UYE on their BYOB policy. Mr. & Mrs. Meaux know what they're doing and do it well! They offer a limited menu, but still have everything I would want - crawfish, shrimp, crab, gumbo and etoufee! I arrived a little early since the weather was so nice and wanted to snag enough tables for our crew. At around noon I had my choice of seating, but it didn't take long for cars and monster trucks to start pulling in. The locals are loyal fans of the Shack and never fail to show up on a beautiful day. The waiter for our section, Jed was super nice, efficient and kept the orders coming one by one! We had a total of about 15 or so people and the best part was no one had to wait long for their orders. At most places like this you expect to wait for a bit, but they have a system here and the system seems to be flawless! I ended up having nearly 4 pounds all by myself - that's a record for me! I tried every spice level and would have to recommend the Meaux Spicy. It's got the heat, but doesn't kill the flavor of the crawfish. They normally charge $5.50 per pound, but with a slow season the price is up to $5.95 for now. The chicken and sausage gumbo was also money in a bowl! Not too salty and a hearty roux! They are truly accomodating with the BYOB policy and allow you to bring whatever you like and even provide coolers if you'd like to ice down your adult beverages. They have a playground for the rug rats, should you own any of those and a few flatscreen TVs mounted to catch the sport of the day! I am officially a fan of the Shack and will be a frequent customer for years to come...hell, they may be the reason I decide to stay OTL! Well, that and the housing market sucks right now! read more

We ordered 5 pounds of crawfish and a pound of shrimp. I also ordered a cup of gumbo because I'm a gumbo connoisseur. This place now has my vote for best gumbo of all time!! Easily. Broth was delicious and has a nice amount of meat in the gumbo. Crawfish is pretty good. It's not the best I've had (That one Place -Atascosita), but it's still pretty good. The mild is not very mild. It'd probably be better to get spicy. 7 bucks a pound is kinda steep, imo. Especially considering that I've had better crawfish for a lower price. Sausages are good. A fat gal's dream!!! I left this place stuffed and happy. I was seriously scared that I wouldn't be able to get up from the picnic table we were sitting at. I'm not a huge crawfish fan, but I tried my friend's and loved it. I went for the shrimp...nothing less than a fiesta in my mouth :) I got them the spiciest possible and was very satisfied. The roof of my mouth started burning, so they did the job. I ordered a lb of shrimp, some shrooms, and red beans and rice. It was all muy muy delicioso!!! This little gem is a place for alllll types of people. You ever notice how some random things bring everyone together? Crawfish is one of them.
