This is one of the better Mexican restaurants in Crosby. I think they have some of the best enchilada and tamale sauce. The chips and salsa are really good, the service has always been phenomenal, and the price is good. I have had trouble in the past with everytime I go to pay they try to charge me an extra dollar or two compared to what the menu price has listed. This is annoying because I had to talk to the cashier several times about how I should be charged the price that is listed on the menu. Sometimes they have a menu with the price they are charging by the cash register. However, the ones they would give me had a cheaper price. Sometimes they would charge me the correct price and Sometimes they made me pay the incorrect price. This was always annoying and caused me to not visit the restaurant nearly as often. They now charge a fee for paying with a credit card. It seemed to be about 5%. Overall, I think this place is worth a visit. Just make sure you are getting charged the right price. read more

I had to ask for green sauce and they never even refilled my green sauce even after I asked for chips and salsa refilled. I was in Crosby for the first time for a PD session and I opted for Mexican food for my lunch break. I ordered a chicken tortilla soup and was sadly disappointed. The chicken pieces were so large that I couldn't figure out how to eat it! And, the bowl of soup was bigger than my face - no joke! It was huge! I will, however, say, the service was prompt, friendly, and attentive. It's too bad their food didn't measure up. They were kind enough to pack up super large diet coke to go (yay). The next time I'm in Crosby, I may find another place to experience. Oh well. I'm sure locals love it. read more

This is Mexican food at its finest! Been here four times now and it has always been great no matter how busy or deserted. The food is very upscale with lots of flavor and served at the right temperature. The managers seem to spend as much time helping guests as the hourly staff. Wive and I have eaten here for years and really like the food. The restaurant is somewhat clean and everyone is friendly to you. We are all ways recognized by Mr. Marcos whom we met years ago at the NASA rd1 location (now closed) and he moved to the Crosby location. They have cold beer and great Margaritas and flavored ones too! I love their Nachos Supreme with just queso all over them with extra guacamole and Jalepenos. Their food is a little better than some of the other Tex-Mex food establishments in the area. Give it a try and ask for Senior Marcos he will treat you right! read more

I've been here twice - once with a large group and the other time with just two people. Both times I really, really enjoyed my stay. The food is delicious and seems cheaper than other Mexican restaurants in the area. Also larger portion sizes which is good for taking home leftovers. Margaritas were tasty and strong but not overtly so, and they came out SO FAST I didn't have to wait. First and last time. I ordered the fried fish and shrimp. The breading tasted like it was fried in old oil. The fish was bland and the fries soggy. My brother in law has the milanesa which is also fried and didn't eat his food either. My daughter ordered the stuffed jalapeños and she didn't eat them. The breading was nasty, the jalapeños had no flavor and soggy. One person with us had regular chicken tacos and said they tasted fine and one person had the gordita and she also liked it. Hector's used to be the best Mexican joint in town - hands down. I spent enough time here during high school that I honestly think my contributions alone paid for all of the remodels they have done over the years. We knew every server by name, the owner was constantly chatting with his patrons, and the food was great; that is until they opened up another location on 1960... The Crosby location started to go downhill almost immediately. The owner spent much of his time overseeing the new location (and rightly so), but his staff in Crosby seemed to not care about standards any more. On my last trip, I found bugs in my food. Not a single bug, but multiple bugs that looked like small stink bugs. I motioned for the server (a new guy who had not been around long) and he just grabbed my plate and walked away. He never showed his face again that night. I sat in silence and confusion for nearly 10 minutes when the owner happened walked in. He made his rounds through the dining room and shook my hand as he asked if everything was ok (seeing the look on my face). As I told him what had happened, another server came to the table and cleared my family's plates (not eaten after the fiasco with mine) and were immediately told that there would be no charge for the meal (understandable since we had only eaten the appetizer of chips and queso anyways). I talked with the owner for a few minutes longer and he apologized profusely (and I truly believed everything he told me), but I expressed my concern with staff's lack of care while he was away. It has been almost 11 years now since that incident and I have not eaten there since the incident. read more

Its ridiculous what fried flour, baking powder and water will do for (what I thought was...) my distinguished palette! ;).... anyway..... Hectors is great! Nice outdoor seating (in the fall when it isn't so hot) It's a good atmosphere! Lots of food for a decent price. Margaritas are just okay though. But love there green salsa!
