(As if it were intentional) another asked if my son had extra clothes in the car... his shirt and pants were soaked. No consolation or solution. We asked for another drink. At the end they charged us for two drinks, even the one that broke and leaked all over him. They could have at least offered to send him home with tea to go. The restaurant is exceptionally clean, and servers during both of my visits were very polite and attentive. The food is a mixed bag, but mostly good stuff. First, the not so great... The cheese enchiladas here are filled with processed goopy "cheese," and are similar to what one might get in a frozen dinner. Many people don't have an issue with this, but I prefer actual cheese in my cheese enchiladas. On a positive note, they came out warm, and the chili gravy was the typical salty concoction that one expects from a Tex-Mex joint. The rice isn't terrible, but it's overcooked and bland. The refried beans are interesting, as if they've used chicken broth as the flavor enhancer. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but they're different than most. Now to the really good... The tamales here are spectacular. And that testimony comes from a guy who remembers the neighborhood abuelas selling warm, homemade tamales door-to-door in the mid-70s in south Texas. These folks use nicely seasoned shredded pork, which is encased in a toothsome masa. It's a culinary success, and worthy of being consumed during the holidays. The three people who actually read my reviews know that I'm a salsa snob. First, salsa must be served cold. It also should never contain cumin. This place checks both boxes. -- The salsa here is smooth and tomatoey with hints of onion and jalapeño. I don't think they use cilantro. Either way, it's very good as a dip or as a topping. Bottom line: I live more than 45 minutes from here, so I doubt I'll become a regular. If I lived closer, however, I'd be getting my Tex-Mex fix here on a weekly basis (minus the cheese enchiladas).
