This review is based on two lunch visits on consecutive weekdays. (I was taking a multi-day training in the neighborhood.) This joint offers up decent Tex-Mex. The restaurant is exceptionally clean, and servers during both of my visits were very polite and attentive. The food is a mixed bag, but mostly good stuff. First, the not so great... The cheese enchiladas here are filled with processed goopy "cheese," and are similar to what one might get in a frozen dinner. Many people don't have an issue with this, but I prefer actual cheese in my cheese enchiladas. On a positive note, they came out warm, and the chili gravy was the typical salty concoction that one expects from a Tex-Mex joint. The rice isn't terrible, but it's overcooked and bland. The refried beans are interesting, as if they've used chicken broth as the flavor enhancer. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but they're different than most. Now to the really good... The tamales here are spectacular. And that testimony comes from a guy who remembers the neighborhood abuelas selling warm, homemade tamales door-to-door in the mid-70s in south Texas. These folks use nicely seasoned shredded pork, which is encased in a toothsome masa. It's a culinary success, and worthy of being consumed during the holidays. The three people who actually read my reviews know that I'm a salsa snob. First, salsa must be served cold. It also should never contain cumin. This place checks both boxes. -- The salsa here is smooth and tomatoey with hints of onion and jalapeño. I don't think they use cilantro. Either way, it's very good as a dip or as a topping. Bottom line: I live more than 45 minutes from here, so I doubt I'll become a regular. If I lived closer, however, I'd be getting my Tex-Mex fix here on a weekly basis (minus the cheese enchiladas). read more

We tried this restaurant today and can honestly say we will not go back. I ordered a "freshly squeezed" lemonade and could immediately tell it was made with some sort of powder. The food was decent. A store-bought flour tortilla is what I was used to wrap my burrito. Chipotle burritos are more filling than what I got. The beans were good (cold though) and the rice was bland. The server seemed new. She asked me what kind of meat I wanted for my Carnitas Burrito (?) and hovered while we ate and when we were done, she hovered again waiting to see how much we tipped her. It was so strange. We still tipped her 20%. If you're looking for authentic Mexican food, skip this place. Mediocre Tex-Mex is what it actually is. read more

Decided to have dinner here tonight. I haven't been here in years. Everything I ordered was delicious. I had the parillada of fajitas for one and the fajitas were very good and seasoned well. I like the chips and salsa as well good flavor . Salsa not too spicy though. My waitress was very attentive and the restaurant was very clean . I thought the charro beans were really good and so was the rice . I shall return to try other menu items. read more

They're still following Covid protocols so, all employees are wearing a mask. There are no menu's, you have to use your phone to scan the QR code. There is also no ice cream machine at this time because of Covid. Decent food and service, especially in this area. There's a limited number of sit down restaurants to begin with in the Channelview area. Every time I come here it's never busy. Stop by and give it a shot. read more

The first time I been here I thought the place was great, portions were large, and price was fair. My company used to take us here for casual lunches all the time. My high school even held events here for National Honor Society banquets. Ever since they renovated the place though, a lot of things has changed and it's not for the better. The quality of the food went downhill for sure. I came here with two of my co-workers during lunch one time. I ordered the Chicken Fajita, one of them ordered the beef burrito plate, and the other person ordered two beef tacos with "no beans and double the rice". When the food came we noticed that there was no beans (as requested), but the rice portion stayed the same. My plate came sizzling hot but my beans and rice tasted bland. Both my co-workers also said their rice was bland and didn't finish it. I also noticed that my fajita plate did not come with guacamole or even sour cream! What is up with that?! Come on! I asked for sour cream and I soon found out on my bill I was charged 89 cents for sour cream! Yes... 89 cents for sour cream! Ok... calm down... lol anywho. The only thing my co-workers and I liked were the chips and salsa... but I don't think I'll be coming back here anymore. read more

It's Channelview, so it's wise not to get your hopes up about anything: restaurants, economy, road condition, housing prices, education, scenery, etc. Here's the deal on Armenta's though - its way better than you'd expect for Channelview, TX...and way better than a lot of places in flashier parts of town! I've gotten a few different things off the menu over the years, and the salads are so good and fresh that I consider them to be the best thing to get. The restaurant itself is very basic, but the waitstaff work hard and are friendly, and the manager makes sure you are happy with the food and service. The food was decent at best. The service was horrible. I wasn't asked if I wanted a water, much less received one the ought the whole meal. My waitress was pretty clueless about the menu. I asked what kind of sauce the espanola sauce was and she had no idea. I ordered the Mas Pollo which was a taco, a taquito and an enchilada. The taco and taquito came out....then about 15 minutes later the enchilada came out. "They come at different time," is what the waitress said. Then when I asked for my bill, she went to the register and told another waitress that "the white boy is a b*tch," in Spanish. Boy oh boy...... this was such a treat. I came here for lunch with my boss. She mentioned that the food was really good so off we went. There was no wait when we got there. Service was friendly and fast. Red sauce with the chips and salsa was super tasty too. I ordered the tamale lunch special with refined beans and rice. It was AMAZING!!!!! Tamales were perfect and covered with the most perfect gravy. The beans were creamy and fatty and salty. I ate every bite. Sweet tea was the perfect accompaniment to some of the best Tex mex I've had in Houston. I will go out of my way to come here again. read more

I ordered the ground beef enchiladas and sadly they were not very good. The servers were very polite, the atmosphere was very nice, and the service was also quick and accurate. So nothing against anyone in that sense, but the enchiladas themselves lacked flavor. To be more specific the meat was not marinated nor seasoned and the gravy was a bit thin without any real flavor. Mostly I tasted salt and there was pepper on it, but it ended up giving the dish a crunch texture that is uncustomary for enchiladas. Perhaps other dishes are better, but I would not recommend based on my single trip. I feel enchiladas are like a core dish and if this dish isn't done well than it stands little chance any others will be. read more

Here is a nice Mexican restaurant in the heart of Channelview Tx and maybe the nicest place to eat in the town. The food is good but not the best it's "ok" as far as Mexican food goes in this area. The food is very typical of the area and not much to rave about. The place is very clean and the staff very friendly towards their customers , I have eaten there many times and recommend it. I wish they had a stand out dish (like tender tasty beef fajitas or beef taco meat with great flavor) that really make an impression on your taste buds! I have been a customer for years now and have never been disappointed until now. I ordered the caldo de pollo to go and when I got home, I noticed that the container contained mostly broth, with one small piece of chicken, 1 piece of potato, and a few zucchini slices. I immediately called the restaurant to question the quantity given and the only response was, ask for more chicken next time or I can go back and get another order of caldo. No sorry, no refund offered. Mind you, I reside in midtown and the drive is about 30 minutes or so. Will no longer waste my gas nor time ordering from this restaurant. read more

Today was the first time I had been back in Channelview, Texas in 30 years. My friend, Mary Danley, brought me here and told me that it was family owned and operated. I'm always up for that.................I had the chicken tacos and they were great but probably should have ordered what Mary got because she got an enchilada, beans, rice and taco..................although mine was so good...................hers looked delish................She knew the Mother and the Son of the restaurant and they both came over and said hello to us..........Even our server was just so nice. Will definitely come back and not wait 30 years. I graduated Channelview High School in 1968 so I've lived in Channelview a while before I left. This is one of my most favorite Mexican restaurants in town. I recommend this place to every1 I know. The chili con queso is amazing and I would say the beef fajita chimichanga is my must have every time. I don't even need a menu when I walk in that place. Yes the menu is a little pricy but it well worth it. The service is great and every1 that works there are very kind and will do anything to keep their customers happy. I was here about a week ago with a group. The service was mediocre. We had to get our own utensils from behind the podium nearby. My friend sitting across from me was served a refill of the very same drink i was drinking and i was left having to ask the server to refill my glass after a few minutes of my empty glass staring at me. Very annoying. The food..I've never had enchiladas that I didn't really like... Until this visit. I ordered the cheese enchilada dinner. They were complete mush! So soggy and you could tear them apart with just a slight move of my fork. It tasted as if they filled the tortillas with the runny cheese you'd put on top of concession stand nachos. I had to send it back and ordered a completely different meal. I'm not a difficult person as far as food. I cannot review the restaurant, as I was in their reception hall behind the restaurant for a Sweet 16. The food was good but nothing special, I really wish I had more to add. This was a buffet line of one set menu. Tortillas, chicken, rice and charro beans. The chicken was a breast topped with diced tomatoes/onions.
