We came for lunch on a Saturday. We had a party of 4 and were seated immediately. It was after 1 PM and they were not very busy. I won't say who our server was because he's the reason why I deducted a star. He didn't really say much, which is fine with me... but he also wasn't very attentive. I don't need or want a server who hovers, but when 3 out of 4 people have empty drinks and your server has passed your table several times without acknowledging you, it becomes a problem. Also, when I needed a box and my check, he was halfway across the restaurant standing around and not bothering to look at his tables. Other than that, it was a pleasant time. I went to lunch with three ladies after a conference we attended and we had a wonderful time. The food was good and we got just what we expected. The restaurant was clean and well lit. There was a manager going around visiting with people and checking on things. She didn't come to us, but we had just been sat so we hadn't even ordered yet. I like Johnny Tamales and I will go back. Just along Sam Houston Parkway you can I'll find this Tex Mex cantina. It is a chain of at least 2 locations, and it's a solid spot for work lunch, happy hour, family dinner, date night, etc. It terms of Tex Mex it is so-so. The meals are good, but we live in Houston where you can find so many incredible Tex Mex, Mexican, and fusion restaurants. The restaurant is inviting and vibrant on the outside, but somewhat dim and less inviting on the inside. Also, the service was on point, but our server wasn't particularly upbeat or pleasant. I will say that their lunch menu is fairly impressive, and the portions will leave you wondering if you accidentally ordered from the dinner menu. Also, they come by to check on drinks, chip baskets, and salsas which is nice so you don't have to feel bad asking for more. Some tips: Try the green sauce, it's delicious. It's a creamy green salsa, and if you ask for more they will most likely bring one for each person at the table. And on Tuesdays it's Fajita Tuesday where you can get mixed fajitas for two for $32.99 (normally $38.99). Also, there's a self serve soft serve (tongue twister) ice cream station at the door. Cinco De Mayo Review: Knowing Cinco De Mayo is more like Cinco de Drinko at every Tex-Mex in town, we had to get there early, and yes, I was right because the parking was starting to get full at 4:30. For starters, we got a JT Rita and some Dos XX's. The server was very cordial and offered us the queso special, and we jumped on that along with the fajita nachos and chips and salsas. All of these were delightful to our tastebuds! I was ecstatic that they offered mixed fajitas for 2 at a special price of $34.99! Man, these were fresh, hot, and sizzling upon making its entrance to our table. We were able to get both tortillas de maiz and harina after my request to do so. My only gripe was that we only got 2 of each kind, but oh well. The platter came with caramelized onions and peppers. Spanish Rice and Refried Beans also complimented along with Pico, shredded cheddar and jack cheese, and sour cream! We were more than full after polishing it off! The staff here will take your order and then not come back until like 30 minutes or so . The inside of this place has seen better days and the food may not seem that appealing on what you order . Let me start by saying... they serve cold salsa something rare in TX... but sooo good. I had enchiladas... they were good but kind of on the dry side... on the inside. Nachos were perfect size and had all the goodies on them and fajitas were really sizzling when they came out. Our waiter was on it.... Never had to ask for a refill or anything, it was just already there. Margarita was strong enough and good flavor. My team of 30 came for dinner and I'm sure this was not expected. We were seated promptly and drink orders were taken immediately; however, it was about an hour before our dinner order was taken. Finally made it in for lunch and it is a really nice restaurant with a decent menu. Love the fact you don't have 50 items on the menu. Ive eaten at Johnny Tamales twice now! The first time I ordered the chicken plate with queso. It comes with a piece of chicken breast covered in chili con queso, salad, rice and beans, and tortillas. Super simple but I really enjoyed the flavor of it all. The fresh tortillas are made there and so tasty, almost like moms! My daughter really loves the refried beans from JTs, she will eat an entire plate of them. The second time we visited JTs, my husband and I shared the appetizer sampler. It was ok, the wings were just frozen ones, the nachos were nothing special, the best thing on the plate was probably the quesadilla. My middle daughter liked the kids chicken tenders and fries. My son ordered cheese enchiladas with French fries instead of rice and beans, they subbed that for him no problem. He loved it and eat every last bite. We also got some sopapillas that were just ok. you could almost taste a freezer burn on them. My kids almost fought for the last bites! I got a watermelon margarita because they looked so good but I was really disappointed in it. It was super bland and watered down. I recently went to Johnny's for a quick lunch. The restaurant was busy, which is expected, but I was really impressed with my server they were respectful, fast, and overall very kind. The food came out quickly, and everything on that front was great. What completely ruined the experience was witnessing the young manager's behavior. From where I was seated, I could clearly hear him yelling at employees in the kitchen not just with frustration, but with complete disrespect. What shocked me the most was when he loudly shouted "stupid Mexicans" and "Open your F** eyes" in the middle of the restaurant. My friend and I were absolutely stunned. That kind of language is disgusting, unacceptable, and deeply offensive. No one employee or customer should ever witness or be subjected to that kind of hate or discrimination. It's beyond unprofessional. Corporate seriously needs to look into who they're putting in charge at this location. A manager represents the values of the brand, and this one made it clear he doesn't belong in a leadership position or any position dealing with people. read more

So came here Because it was close and I didn't feel like driving far and I didn't want to order in. The restaurant was clean , staff had on masks . The server helping me was friendly and knew the menu. I ordered the taco salad, nachos , tres leche cake , churros and the cheese dip. I would have to say they packaged the food well, and the order was correct. But the food was just ok. It wasn't bad but nothing special. The nachos were hot not bad and they kept the sour cream , and toppings separate. The taco salad was good with a crispy shell and and the Inside was filled with everything. My daughter's and I stopped in here while Christmas shopping. We sat in the bar area. We've eaten here once before, years ago and remembered it being good. Our server Mike was awesome! Our house margaritas tasted like top shelf! The perfect mix and not tart like other places. I ordered the tamales. My oldest daughter had tacos and my youngest had cheese enchiladas.
