I ordered some T-Dawg bowls to go for me and my boss. I got the Steak with Corn tortillas. It was all still warm when I got back to work. The filling was delicious with the queso in it. The corn tortillas were also delicious, but much smaller than his flour tortillas. I did run out of tortillas before I ran out of filling, and the chips, while tasty, were too weak to scoop the filling up without breaking. It was extra good to drizzle some of the avocado sauce over the filling before closing up the tortillas. I would order it again, but try the flour tortillas next time. read more

The establishment is nice and it's right off the highway. Great stop if you're traveling on the road. Came here with the kids and I love that there's an outdoor playground for them to enjoy. All the food was good for the most part. However, I ordered the Mahi Del Sol and it was overcooked. I didn't bother sending it back. I was hoping it would be more moist and flavorful so I was gravely disappointed. The service was decent too, but not exceptional. I don't live in the area, so I most likely won't be coming back. Came here a few weekends ago for a friends birthday. They were absolutely packed which was a super good sign. It was difficult to park, but we eventually found a spot. We started with their queso which was super good, and of course we had to have margaritas. We also split a sampler and their cheese enchiladas. The sampler was awesome, and super filling. The cheese enchiladas were good too, and I think we actually ordered too much food lol. Overall, we we really enjoyed everything here and would eat here again. read more

We arrived at 6:30pm on a Saturday. The wait time was 30 min. First and foremost and waitresses was a champ. We had a large group and loud kids. All of our orders where correct. Although she disappeared for quit some time, she did a great job The wait time for the food was average....20 min or so. Green sauce 10/10 Salsa 10/10 Chips 10/10 Pollo Marisco was server cold. So please read to the end before basing a decision on my review because my expectations may be different from yours. Full disclosure: I am not from this area and did not realize that this was a chain/franchised restaurant until after I was seated. There is a difference between these restaurants and a "Mom & Pop" establishment. In the positive column, the restaurant was spacious with a nice "Tex Mex" décor. It was clean and our server was very attentive and perfect in every way. It's proximity to the highway makes it an easy on/off for the traveler or the person who wants to grab a meal before getting into the big city of "Houston". The food was okay at best. If you are looking for something with a homemade taste, this might not be what you are looking for. At least concerning what we ordered; I don't think that they can make the claim of "fresh not frozen". I would have to say there were items on our table that were purchased prepared and not fresh. The appetizer was a little cool in the center, which might be a sign that there was a microwave oven involved. The chips & salsa were very good, but I'm a little disappointed when they stand out over the meal. That brings us to value. I said that the food was okay, but the prices, not so much. It was champagne prices for "Milwaukee's Best" beer. The tab was pretty steep considering that we had some of the least expensive items on the menu and no alcohol. Comparing it to some other Mexican restaurants that I've recently patronized, it was overpriced even if the food had been much better. Those are my findings, but you are welcome to take your own data. Especially in these economic times, I lean hard on value when I purchase anything. Great location for an amazing meal when in the Baytown/ Mont Belvieu area. Located just off of 1-10. Highly recommend the Soup/ Salad Combo of Tortilla Soup and Pompeii Salad. The visit didn't disappoint as far as the food, however, the service was very short and hurried. Solid, decent Tex-Mex food. Service is usually pleasant and quick. The Mont Belvieu location is almost always packed so anticipate a wait and a very complicated parking lot. My main complaint is a common complaint of the long-time patron... the prices have soared over time, which is true. But the quality is consistent and while I have never been wowed by the food here, I have rarely been disappointed. The stuffed avocado is excellent and their burrito with chili gravy is a personal favorite. read more

This is a great Tex-Mex place! Their green sauce with chips is SO delicious and creamy. I always look forward to this sauce to eat with chips while waiting for my food to come. I really like the amazon wrap from here. They also have a really good lunch special on the weekdays for a great price too! I got the lunch chicken quesadilla. It comes with guac and sour cream. It was the perfect portion for me. There is plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. Be prepared that service may be a little slower whenever it is very busy. read more

This restaurant is a DISASTER!!! We came on a Friday night and the service was HORRIBLE! The waitress brought my margarita (pictured) and it was the wateriest frozen drink ever. I returned it and they brought another that was even more watered down. Not to mention our waitress spilled it in our queso and never even acknowledged it. She sat it on the table and acted as though nothing happened. ‍ Our food took forever! Once it finally came, one of the entrees was missing because our waitress forgot to put it in. Keren took great care of us! I was skeptical of the skinny margarita but she assured me it was delicious and it was. My husband ordered an Iguana Garden Heat and liked it. Even the guy who brought our food was impressed by the presentation and asked what he'd ordered. I am gluten-free and was thrilled to see they have a dedicated menu just for us. I got to eat the table chips and the salsa, as well as the green sauce. I got the pollo a la parilla with borracho beans and it was heavenly. My husband got the pollo marisco and was equally impressed. (He's not gluten free so he could eat the rice.) The ambiance here is great. The service was FAST. And everyone was friendly. The day one OG of MontBelvieu! It's almost against God to eat at any other Tex-Mex spot in MB other than this place. Kids use a slang term today that goes "Support your local bakery", well this place is it. It was around when the town was nothing but a single dirt road and its still standing as almost everyone's favorite local spot! The only negative I can say is I wish they were able to make mocktail Margaretas with no alcohol. That new Bomb-Pop Margherita looks amazing but I don't drink, I ask for it without alcohol everytime I go knowing it's not possible, but it just looks soooo good! Anyway, go support your local bakery. They are always adding new items and that is a sign of a place who hasn't given up and refuses to rest on its delicious laurels. read more

It took a while before a server stopped by to check on me, but once done, the experience got so much better. I had never had a stuffed avocado and had no idea what that was. I should have asked. Breaded, deep fried and covered in cheese sauce. None of which my stomach likes. However, once I got to the parts I could eat, I enjoyed my meal. After a conversation with Judith, I now know how to order this item so I can eat with wild abandon and not have to pick through it. The flavors were good and I enjoyed my meal. I live in the Houston loop but work in Baytown. I wish they had places like this in Houston. Great place for lunch, HH, dinner and even kids. The bar area is nice and love the atmosphere. Th service is great and our waiter was very responsive. The food was soo good. By far my favorite green salsa ever! (And i eat a lot of Mexican good :)) the red salsa was good too. Queso was amazing! The lunch specials are very well priced and there are a lot of options. We went at lunch while at work and we didn't have an issue of getting back on time. They're free and loose with the chips and dip. We were basically full of chips by the time the food arrived. I got the baja tacos with grilled fish. I appreciated the jalapeño and pico de gallo that came on the side, because otherwise the tacos themselves weren't that strongly flavored (sauce wise). Not necessarily a bad thing, I think you're supposed to taste the fish. If I got it again, I'd try the grilled shrimp tacos instead. read more

Prices have become more expensive.. a quesadilla use to cost a little more than $10. Now it is almost $20. The thing that irks me is there is less meat and more cheese now as well. Not to mention the meat is burnt! Never again will we go here. We rather go to Houston to eat tex mex. read more

Went to a HS football game on a weekday in Mont Belvieu. Decided to stop at Iguana Joes. Atmosphere was friendly and welcoming, the table service was good and prompt. Ordered Baja tacos with fried shrimp, and an order of street tacos. The Baja came with what appeared to be Cisco frozen shrimp but the other ingredients appeared to be freshly processed. Would have preferred the shrimp to have been local and done in the kitchen, but what they hey! Everything would've worked out well, if it were a bit more flavorful. There was no real kick to the tacos and the margarita dressing was not as upfront as it probably should have been. Street tacos were reported to have been good. They were the combination choice, but afterwords preference would've been for all chicken. The rating is not so much for the taste profile of the food, but for the service from Hannah, who was at our table so often we thought she probably wanted to be a family member! To be honest, this was our first venture into Iguana Joe's anywhere. I would be more than willing to give it another shot and probably order something different.
