This place has been open for years and it definitely does not disappoint IN THE LEAST! I have been here about 3 times now (2 Dine in & 1 Take-Out) and every time the food has been consistent! The crawfish are HUGE! And I mean HUGE! They were boiled perfectly, not too long and not too tough. The seasoning was great. I had the spicy flavor with a side of garlic butter. I have also tried the crab legs and they are just as good!! They are open certain times for the year. If you are able to catch them during their open season you will not be disappointed. I never knew how delicious mushroom could be with crawfish. Or that there was such a thing as drive-thru crawfish. BYOB with beer in ice buckets and crawdaddies the size of lobster (okay, maybe exaggerating a little here) were totally worth the trip from Houston to Crosby. We arrived within an hour of their opening, and the place was already buzzing with crowd. The seasoning wasn't quite as spicy as I wanted (even at their spiciest level, and I consider myself sort of a wimp when it comes to crawfish spice), and the sides are cooked separately without having had the opportunity to sit at the bottom of the pot soaking up all the flavor, but everything was nonetheless delicious. They do offer extra bottles of their spice on the table, if you want that extra hotness with your dish. So here's my verdict: make the trip. Worth it. read more

I absolutely love this place! I never thought I would become a fan of LA crawfish but I am and I have this place to thank for it! Every time I would look up crawfish in Houston, Crawfish Shack seems to pop up on all the top lists. It's a bit of a far drive (Crosby, TX) but I think it's worth it. We came in on a Sunday (2/17/19) thinking it will open at 12pm but turns out they weren't going to open until 1:30pm (something about crawfish not being able to get in on time due to all the road closures on I-10 -- and if you know Houston, you know this is absolutely acceptable). We drove about 45 min out there so we were willing to wait a bit till they open. It was cold and rainy but that didn't stop others from lining up as well. It's BYOB and the place is pretty big and can fit about 200 people in there. Once we got in, our server Victor explained the different spices levels of crawfish and we ended getting 3 lbs of the Mo' Spicy (more juicy than the typical dry rub). All the other spice levels are straight dry rub. We also got a pound of snow crabs, sausage, corn, and potatoes with our crawfish. The crawfish were BIG and JUICY and also cooked to perfection. Out of all the places in Houston, I think Crawfish Shack tops the perfection of it all. The flavors were soaked into both the crawfish and the snow crabs. Within a few minutes, the whole place was packed and the line outside wrapped around the restaurant. The drive thru line was also pretty long as well. This place is also CHEAP! It's $7.95/lb for crawfish and $19/lb for snow crabs. Some places charge $14 for a cluster -_-. I still prefer the Asian style crawfish (more garlic and butter) but this is a nice switch up every now and then. I will definitely come back for more! read more

A couple of friends had recommended this place to me, so I decided to come and see for myself. The property is an oblong shape, more long than deep, so their parking lot is on one end and the building where you eat/mingle is on the other. The most noticeable thing when arriving here is their drive-thru. You basically have to walk through the drive-thru to get to the front door, which is a little awkward. Once at the door, the hostesses will seat you at one of the many picnic style tables within the building. It's BYOB of course, so you will see most people bringing coolers and 6-packs. Smoking is also permitted, so that was the main part I didn't like. Once at the table, menu's are posted on the sides of the napkin dispensers. I ordered 8 pounds of crawfish, 1/2 pound of boiled shrimp, soft drinks and the usual sides of potatoes and a sausage link. Four different flavors from mild to extra spicy, I chose extra spicy which is not really that spicy compared to asian style crawfish. The boiled shrimp are fairly small, taste like they're seasoned with Old Bay and de-veined leaving the shells on. I was not really fond of the boiled shrimp. The potatoes are not seasoned and are just steamed red potatoes, so not much flavor on them at all. The sausage was pretty good though. As far as the crawfish, it was good for sure, but the heads were not as juicy as I'd liked them to be, until you get to the bottom of your tray where all the boil water is sitting. After sucking several of the heads with the juice, I realized the boil water was super salty, so I abandoned that idea. If you're in the area, this is not a bad spot to try, but I'm not so sure I'd make a trek here from Houston again. read more

I'm still not sure how I feel about this place .... I don't hate it but I don't love it ..... I will say that the customer service was exceptional from start to finish .... everyone was polite starting with the officer at the door to every single employee I encounter during my visit ... I would give them 10 stars just for that .... the crawfish was seasoned well In the inside but that seasoning salt on the outside was overwhelming ... the shrimp were not all that great and my sausage was a bit dry ... however, it was a really cool family, byob , relaxed atmosphere..... Great crawfish. As someone from south Louisiana, i've eaten my fair share of crawfish. One thing I didn't care for is that it looks like they generally or throwing on extra seasoning on top of the crawfish when you order "extra spicy" and not taking them out of a different pot that was boiled with the seasoning - which I don't care for. For example, the mushrooms I ordered didn't seem to be boiled at all with the seasoning. I didn't try the corn or potatoes, so I wouldn't be surprised if they are doing the same thing there. That's unfortunate. BUT... having said that, the crawfish were still good, and the service was really great. It had all the signs of a reputable business trying their best. Who brings cheap white wine & red plastic cups to a restaurant in the country? Apparently, we do. I don't know exactly how we ended up here on a random girls' night out. I believe it started out when one of my girlfriends invited me out to dinner to catch up and to drive her brand new spanking sports car. This required a somewhat long, open road. I had been craving crawfish but refused to wait on Boiling Crab. And finally, another girlfriend demanded no girls' night out is complete without alcohol. Long winding road, check. Crawfish, check. Drinks...err, BYOB? When I looked up the restaurant online, I couldn't see the BYOB mention on the website (yes, I actually failed to check Yelp reviews). I asked my friend again and she reassured me that it is, in fact , BYOB. And since it was a very spontaneous night out, all I had handy was a bottle of cheap white wine. We were too lazy to make an actual stop at a liquor store & decided this would have to do for the night. And so we trekked it over on dark highway 90, winded down a farm road, crossed a railroad track, and lo & behold a giant glowing sign awaited us. A full, dirt parking lot was a good sign especially on a week night. Unfortunately, this also meant my friend had to park her newly washed sportscar in the ditch...and really, people here double park on the ditch with no care in the world. But as they say, when in Rome do as the Romans do! Walking up to the barn-like restaurant a sign welcomed us saying to seat ourselves. We decided to plop ourselves on one of the long picnic tables. I was still wary on whether we were really allowed to bring alcohol until I saw families bringing in enormous coolers & popping open bottles of beer. The young, friendly server (noticing we had wine) offered us cups. We thanked him politely for the offer but we came prepared...red cups, wine opener, and even a stopper. Yes, I realize how ridiculous we must've looked but with nary a care in the world we popped that wine open & ordered pounds of crawfish, corn, potatoes, mushrooms, and had ourselves a good time. The verdict? Pretty damn tasty seasoning! While two of us enjoyed the Spicy seasoning, our other friend ordered the Meaux Spicy and complained that it didn't really taste any spicier than ours. Instead, it just tasted saltier. The corn, potato, and mushrooms were all decent and are priced per piece. Honestly, the Boiling Crab still has the tastiest combination of spices in my opinion but is NEVER worth the ridiculous 2 hour wait. A few golden nuggets: - Try to come here on a weekday. We originally came on a Thursday and had no problems seating ourselves for dinner. Tried it again with a different group at 7pm on a Sunday and they were turning people away because they ran out of crawfish!!! I suggest before you go in the evening (esp on a weekend) to call first. We came again on another separate occasion on a Saturday at 6pm and we waited in a line out the door. Don't come hungry, at least not on a weekend! - There's a drive through window but if you think you're gonna get your crawfish faster through there, you are dead wrong. The line of cars on the weekend is just as long as the lines of ppl out the door. - Everyone that works here is super friendly! Be patient, as the servers are slammed with several tables at a time & are busting their ass. - Don't hold up a table too long after eating. Yes, enjoy your beer & the company but let others have the opportunity to enjoy the crawfish they drove so far for! - And lastly, don't be like us and bring wine. Serve large crab legs, boiled shrimp, gumbo and etoufee all incredibly yummy looking and delish per friends. The freshest red potato I've ever eaten. Absolute mouthful of slightly sweet buttery freshness. I could give up french fries forever for these delectable garden goodies. Corn on the cob is a real half served with melted butter in a saucer if you request. Freakin little mushrooms explode in you mouth with a spicy kick within a couple seconds of devouring one. Try these - no regrets. BYOB - Oh Yah. Bring your fav's in your ice chest or they'll provide ice buckets. Pleasant friendly waitstaff. Crawfish $5.95 a lb. I can sum my experience here up in 1 word. Phenomenal!! We met the owner Dan Meaux and he was very nice. This in fact, was our second visit. We made a 4 hour trek just to enjoy the atmosphere and their awesome crawfish. This place is BYOB so bring your beer and sit back and let the great waitstaff take care of your appetite. This place serves big, juicy, succulent crawfish that are seasoned to perfection. This Mr. Meaux has been in business for years and knows how to cook up a mean craw daddy. I also knight him Sir Customer Service because he makes sure that he comes by your table to say hi before you leave no matter how packed it might be in his establishment. The music that is playing is top 40's and it is just the right volume to enjoy and still be able to have a conversation. This is the real deal, ya'll! The Crawfish Shack is where it's at. I'm picky as can be about mudbugs and have not found a place on this side of the Sabine River that rivals the good ole' authentic Louisiana crawfish heat, flavor, and essence - until now that is. We just had The Crawfish Shack cater our annual Crawfish boil at work and I am beside myself. All that was missing was the live Zydeco and I would've sworn I was in the heart of Acadiana. I love heat (except the kind that makes my hair frizz up like an old poodle) and they delivered with the Meaux Spicy level. Now this spice - Chile, you could definitely tell its old recipe style and not your generic Zatarrain's/Tony's combination that most places use. Crawdaddy's were boiled to perfection and were juicy, juicy, juicy. Size-wise, I was a happy camper since we had mostly big 'bugs in our boil. The potatoes, corn and sausage were all on point as well and I could have made a meal out of that if it wasn't for the addictive crawfish. The team's service was also great, making our experience even more worth it. All in all, Crawfish Shack rocks and I want more. Crawfish come a runnin to this spot. Went on a Friday evening with a friend. It was kinda late so it wasn't too packed. It's really open so if you go on a cool night, bring a jacket. You seat yourself and the menu is on the napkin dispenser. Our waiter came over and gave us the specials. It sounded good - 2 lbs of crawfish, 1 lb of shrimp and corn and potatoes. For 2.50 more we also got a sausage link. Its' BYOB so my friend made a quick run to the store and got us a 6 pack of Dos Equis. They do provide an ice chest with ice if needed. I think they have water, sodas,etc for purchase. The food came out and it was delish. We ordered spicy and they were perfect. As it was getting close to quitting time, my friend still wanted more and ordered 2 lbs of crawfish to go. Environment - they have TVs so we were able to catch the Rocket's game and there is a play area for kids - pretty cool. My only realy issue is the restroom situation. It's literally smack dab in the middle of the restaurant and it's a single - one side for men and one for women. And it opens up to the eating area. Let me say again, the crawfish was delish and our bill was under $40. The cost per lb is $4.95 which is reasonable esp since the crawfish were a fairly good size. Two thumbs up. I was impressed on my second visit to the Crawfish Shack.I quickly noticed the issues i had previously noted were no longer an issue.The place was hoppin with people throwing down on crawfish.We placed our order for ten lbs of crawfish with the works and six lbs of the snow crab with lots of melted butter. It has a few TVs to watch games, it's BYOB, the crawfish aren't over priced. They also have a lot of other seafood on the menu which is also great. I'm by no means a crawfish lover, I'm from the Midwest and crawfish aren't a thing. So when I moved to TX, it's a huge thing when spring comes. I've had it a few times and I live right down the street from this establishment. It's been rated "Best in Houston" but not having experience in crawfish I don't have many to compare it to. The setting to me is the real winner as it's BYOB and everyone brings coolers and when there's a wait it's one big party outside in the waiting area. They play great music and really gets you in the mood to party. The crawfish is good compared to what I've had, but I really like their corn and potatoes. My family and I picked up 8 lbs through the drive through last night, absolutely amazing. We are huge mud bug eaters and I have to rate this at the top of the charts for Houston. The seasoning is fantastic and the way they are boiled is perfect. I remember when this guy was on the side of the road in Crosby and it was great then but he's got a great set up even more so now. Bring your own booze and enjoy some bugs or take it home and you'll be more than pleasantly surprised at how great this shack cooks their bugs. I've eaten bugs all across Houston and Blue Water (Champions) has been head and shoulders above the rest but Crosby's Crawfish Shack is an easy top with them. Great job guys! read more

Didn't go inside line is just too close to an extremely busy overpass; didn't feel safe. Maybe they should work on reducing the line on weekends. There is one way in and out of the building, which is right in front of the drive-thru traffic. Guess when it's b.y.o.b people think their tolerance is more. I would venture to guess that I have eaten at 25 different crawfish restaurants from Texas to all over Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, and Florida. (Including several in Crosby TX.) And with out a doubt, The Crawfish Shack beats them all hands down. The portions are exactly what you want. The drinks are ice cold. And the staff will do everything but swing from the rafters to make your stay a fantastic experience to remember. I actually stayed in Crosby an extra day just to get a second shot at it. I am a person who likes to point out fault to help make a place better for the next guy. If I had to find fault in this place it would be that they didn't have thier own on and off ramp on the highway and a parking lot the size of a football field to accommodate the traffic .
