I was visiting the area & walked in for coffee. Immediately I was struck by AMAZING scent of fresh baked goods. They had samples of crumb cake on the counter which sold me on buying some treats. if I could give a zero review, I would because of the unprofessional, nasty,rude young man ( owner) that wouldn't allow me to buy anything because I walked in with my 5 pound dog. The minute I opened the door to step in he said "no animals" and didn't even let me continue. there wasn't one person in the store. Sometimes people need to use common sense. All I needed was five minutes to purchase some thing and I would've been out the door. His obnoxious shortness and abruptness definitely goes without saying . I despise arrogant people. I could've held my dog in my arms. All the pastry and desserts are in glass cases. My favorite things to buy here are their brownies, carrot cake, cookies, and cheesecake. They make the best brownies, and have a large variety. My favorites are the Oreo, chocolate caramel, and chocolate brownie topped with chocolate buttercream. They are absolutely delicious! The cheesecakes are to die for! They are rich and creamy, and my favorite one is the cheesecake topped with chocolate ganache. They make a really good Monster Cookie too! It's an oatmeal cookie with m&ms, chocolate chips, and peanut butter. They also make a really good carrot cake here! I hear the mousse cakes are another top item, but I tried the chocolate decadence mousse cake, and I just thought it was just ok. I would give this bakery 5 stars, but on my first visit I purchased a chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream frosting, and I thought the cake was dry. It needed to be more moist. Stopped by on my walk to Allenhurst train station one Saturday morning. Was pleasantly greeted with friendly customer service and a perfect "local business" feel. Sampled three different muffins and their coffee. Muffins: All 3 were well above the "average" muffin that you might find at *insert chain*. They were nicely shaped and appeasing to the eye. On the smaller side but quite frankly better that way because large muffins have the tendency to make you feel like a balloon if you eat the whole thing. Blueberry muffin was BY FAR the best! Coffee: Good coffee, kept at a good temperature where I was able to drink immediately upon purchasing. Would suggest adding iced coffee to the repertoire. Their decorated cakes are almost juvenile looking, like it was someone's first attempt at decorating a cake. Come on, it should be easy to pipe with that shortening packed icing, guys! Now let's talk about Liana's comment way down below. I'm sorry to hear she was so disappointed. She must have never had a FoodTown cake because THAT is some shortening-based nonsense. Now... let's be realistic... You aren't going to get a Red Velvet Made with Organic/G-Free Spelt Flour and Fair Trade Whiskey Currant Raw Milk Cream Cheese Icing with... I don't know... a replication of some Dali piece on it. (Though you could ask - Cravings does custom cakes like no one else in the area.) But you will absolutely get a beautiful, delicious cake. I would go as far as to say that their fruit muffins are better than any muffin in New York City. This weekend, they had two specials. Peach strawberry and banana coconut. I also got a blueberry.
