Just had a fantastic brunch at Cravings in Chester! We ordered the Fried Chicken and Waffles special. They are super gluten free friendly and very accommodating. They offered to make the Fried Chicken and Waffles gluten free and that was a fantastic choice! The chicken was craggy and perfectly seasoned, which is rare. It was served with a honey mustard sauce and syrup and it was amazing. Also ordered the Reuben Sandwich on gluten free bread. It was loaded full of tender house made corned beef, sautéed onions, sauerkraut, house-made thousand Island dressing, and melty swiss cheese. It was one of the better Reuben sandwiches I've had! Also ordered a warm salad full of sautéed veggies which was also delicious. Chester is generally a pretty dismal town when it comes to dining, so we are delighted to find a spot that is creative, delicious, and where things are homemade! Can't wait to come back! read more

Enjoyed a late lunch here on March 20 with my sweetheart. We each had the Corned Beef Reuben - he with the Tomato Basil soup side and I with the coleslaw side. Not only was it nice to be seated by the window but the service was very good. The food had the attention to detail that makes for recommendations from this foodie. While the sandwiches were a bit messy, they were well worth it with their sauteed onions, generous meat and flavorful sauce balanced with the sauerkraut. I enjoyed the addition of a pepperoncini and dill pickle spear. I hesitated to order a side of coleslaw as too often it is packaged slaw with sad bottled dressing. I was pleasantly surprised by the kale and cabbage slaw and the dressing was savory. We were blessed to receive 3 pastries on the house. When in town, I will return to this business - they know what they are doing. read more

Excellent newish breakfast/lunch place on the north end of Chester. It is run by a friendly but professional husband/wife team. He has an extensive culinary background, running restaurants in several more urban areas. She grew up in town, adding the local touch. They make most items from scratch, including their own corned beef, which is excellent. I am not always a fan of cole slaw but theirs is one of my favorites. Perfect tang and not mayonnaisey. The pastries are very good also, the standout being the scones, which are very moist yet still clearly a scone. Burger was solid, being cooked to order. Bun was soft and fresh yet held together. Bacon was perfectly cooked, being chewy and caramelized. The place is small and cozy so it can fill up. It is closed Tuesday and Wednesday. read more

Best breakfast in Chester by far. Best hash browns I have ever had. Owned by a lovely couple who are very personable and will go that extra mile to ensure your visit is great. If tables are full which they are likely to be because word is spreading on how delicious the food is, you can't go wrong with a coffee and one of their delicious pastries. Early in the morning last week, we spotted this store front as we were leaving town after visiting relatives. What attracted our attention was the "coffee" signage out front. After a couple days of "hotel coffee" we wanted a good cup for the road. We were sorry that we had already had breakfast as some of their selections founded wonderful. My husband ended up ordering a Reuben to eat later. It was wonderful, even later that evening. The cole slaw was really good ... especially with the kale. We were 3 couples that stumbled on to this restaurant because another had a power outage. Everyone of us had an outstanding meal. Try the Ruben. It was the best I have ever had. Every time my family comes to Chester we make sure to stop by here! The staff is friendly and attentive, the restaurant is clean, and the decor is well thought out. However, the food up stages everything! We've had their bacon waffle, the breakfast burrito, the old town breakfast, and once we had their scones and not once were we disappointed! This place is amazing! They have really good soy chorizo burritos, a bacon waffle that is the best around, their gravy is homemade and really good on the potatoes or over biscuits! Welcoming. Cozy. Great food. We sat at the counter for an amazing breakfast burrito and croissant breakfast sandwich. Our food was so fresh and tasty that we came back for two more breakfasts during our stay in Chester so we could try more menu items. I'm picky about my eggs and the scramble was plump and delicate. Just the way I like them. Breakfast potatoes or hash browns are fresh, flavorful and not greasy. I tried their yummy cookies and pecan cinnamon rolls baked fresh on the spot and still warm from the oven. As "an out of towner", my husband and I came to Mill Creek for our honeymoon. We drove up the hill for a day trip and stopped for a quick bite. And let me tell you!!! Well worth it. This tiny Cafe has so much charm, great costumer service, and not to mention the food was amazing! We shared the soy chorizo breakfast burrito and each a latte. It came out quickly, hot, and fresh! We had breakfast here Saturday morning and breakfast was excellent. My complaint is that I do not appreciate being asked if it would be okay if I could leave as quickly as possible as there was a party of five waiting for a table. First of all the table was a small patio table designed for four not five, secondly the table that was next to our table were there before we arrived, were served their food and finished before we did and were sitting there visiting. They were not asked to leave. Just because we had paid our bill was no excuse to treat us in such a manner. The young man was polite however that does not excuse being treated poorly and quite frankly rudely. I was finishing my coffee and was typing a text. We have a vacation home at Almanor West Shore and we do not plan on returning any time soon. read more

In fact all their baked goods, including pastries, are made onsite every day - delicious! came to the door at 1:55PM and while they officially close at 2:00 the kindly served me and my buddy. The BLT was great with awesome bacon and the Ruben was absolutely first class. This was a random stop on a recent road trip. A simple, unpretentious place with awesome food, friendly service & great vibes. They allow pets in the patio area which was a big plus for us as we were traveling with our dog. We ordered a burger, the chicken basil wrap, the chorizo burger and the tomato soup. Everything was delish but the chorizo burger and the tomato soup were EXCEPTIONAL! The soup is made from scratch- fresh and very flavorful. The best tomato soup I've had!! They all also have a cute lil bookstore with a super friendly manager & some interesting reads and knock knacks. Such a gem of a place, wish it weren't this far from the SF Bay Area! read more

This was our first visit to Cravings with the new ownership. The food was good. But the service was disappointing. The wait staff were very friendly but disorganized. My meal came and I was told my toast was on it's way. I reminded them several times that I needed the toast. Still didn't arrive. Finally when I was finished with my meal, cold toast was brought to the table. They were very distracted going in too many directions. They are still new and hopefully will improve. We will wait awhile and give them another try. read more

What a great place! We come to Lake Almanor several times a year and finally decided to see what all the rave reviews were about. Can you say "Best tomato soup ever??!" There was something for everyone... my husband wanted something hearty and meaty- he had the Philly cheesesteak sandwich and loved it. I'm a seafood and veggies kind of girl- I had the grilled shrimp Po' boy sandwich with their homemade slaw and a small cup of tomato soup (so good!). The kids had soup and sandwich combos and didn't leave a single bite behind. This restaurant has something for everyone and did I mention how friendly the employees were? A nice bonus! read more
