The restaurant seems to pride itself on being dog friendly, yet my friend's dog was never offered water or the treat they say they offer. The food is a two star at best. The fries were not crispy, and they were lukewarm as were the onion rings. I did eat them only because I was very hungry and the cheese burger was not good. It was unseasoned, overcooked, bun was stale, and the grilled onions included the outer tough onion layer. Normally I would say something, but if they couldn't even serve a burger on a fresh bun, what would have been the point? My husband who isn't picky and will eat most anything wouldn't eat it. As I don't like to waste food, I took it home and fed it to the chickens. Also, make sure there is toilet paper before using the ladies room. I had to use a paper towel. When I let a worker know, she barely acknowledged me and never said a word, much less an apology. As a visitor to Chester with family there, I will not be agreeable to frequenting this restaurant in the future. Response to owner comments: Your postings next to the outside tables state that water and treats are available for patron's dogs. You should train your servers to offer those when they see a guest has a dog. How was your non English speaking employee able to understand and relay my concern about the toilet paper if she doesn't speak English? Why would I reorder a burger that I know is unseasoned, on a stale bun, etc. knowing I would receive another that is just the same? A line cook can't be retrained in a few minutes. I got what you gave me, it wasn't good. Now is your chance to improve your food for future guests. Quit making excuses, (nothing irritates me more), and make improvements.

Copper Kettle Cafe was exactly the kind of stop we needed after a long day driving from the Sequoia…read morearea toward Lassen Volcanic National Park. At that point, hunger was making major life decisions for us, and this place definitely hit the spot. We ordered the Cobb salad, a cheeseburger, and a milkshake. Everything tasted good. Nothing dramatically life-changing or worthy of a dramatic food documentary narration, but solid, satisfying comfort food when you really need it. The milkshake was actually very good, and honestly part of the charm was watching the staff figure out the wonderfully ancient milkshake machine. It felt a little like witnessing a friendly negotiation between modern humans and a relic from a 1957 diner. Somehow, though, the machine delivered. It also seemed like there may have been new owners or at least people still settling into things. Communication was occasionally a little challenging, but everyone was trying, and the whole interaction ended up feeling more charming and humorous than frustrating. Overall, this is a simple roadside café that serves comforting food, good milkshakes, and a little small-town personality along the way. Sometimes, after hours on mountain roads, that is exactly what you need.

We asked for a table outside because she can't hear well, and the cafe was bustling and loud. The staff seated us, but had to move tables around outside. The hostess and a "regular" of the cafe said things like "this is what we do in a tourist economy." "We have to accommodate the tourists." As if we were a bother and they were bending over backward to accommodate us. Because my mother in law was there, and she is emotionally raw right now, I avoided conflict. So I'll say now, what I wanted to say to those snarky, rude employees Thursday: My husband's family has had a plot in the Taylorsville cemetery for longer than those two ladies been alive -- combined. His grandmother had 2 restaurants in Greenville. His mother is a fixture in the community, living through the Dixie fire and coming back to rebuild her life. Now she'll bury her husband there. My sister and brother in law worked in public service in Quincy for decades. We aren't tourists. And even if we were, you were incredibly unwelcoming. You made a sad day worse. The food was fine.

We met the owner who baked everything by hand in the back of the shop. We could see her prepping more pastries. She was so sweet, just a lovely person. You can't help but want to support her business. And then the pastries themselves were just so good, I would gain so much weight if I lived up there year around because I would eat there everyday! My dad and I shared the Ham and smoked Gouda calzone and oh my goodness was it good! Flakey crust, perfect fillings. It was delectable. I had the chocolate and banana turnover and absolutely loved it. Again, great pastry crust? And the proportions of banana to chocolate were perfect! I also loved my apricot and cheese danish. The flavors really complemented each other, and again - perfect crust! My dad tried the berry and cheese danish and the chocolate croissant and he loved them both! I don't think you could go wrong with any of the pastries here. We took our order to go and ate them the next morning and they were still delicious. It's an inviting shop, with limited seating inside along with plenty of seating outside, so it would be a great place to have a bite to eat as well!

Sad to say, but my experience here has continued to go downhill since the last time I visited. I…read moregot the Volcano Dog this time and it was basically just a naked hot dog and a bun. If you're going to advertise something as a specialty item, I feel like it should at least come close to what's described. It's supposed to be a spicy, gourmet hot dog with grilled jalapeños, tomatoes, and a pickle. Mine had less than a spoonful of jalapeños, maybe half a slice of tomato, and no pickle at all. The bun also split open and most of what little toppings there were ended up falling out. I'm honestly pretty disappointed, especially since it's a long drive for me to get up there. I also expected the food to be better considering it's part of Highland Ranch Resort, but the quality between the two is pretty night and day. I'll probably still stop in because there really isn't anything else convenient in the area and it is a beautiful spot, but for now I think I'll just stick with the beer and tots.
