On my week long stay in Fort Bragg, I decided to check out a halal restaurant for dinner one night. I'm so glad I did. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala Platter, Hummus and Pita, and a Mango Lassi, and it genuinely brought the taste of home back! I even enjoyed a short chat with one of the staff, while I waited for my food It's not a big place, but that's part of its charm..just a cozy, no-frills spot with two or three tables for anyone who wants to dine in. The hummus was nothing like the bland, store-bought kind. It was fresh, smooth, and well balanced. The mango lassi was also spot on: not overly yellow, not too thick, and not overly sweet, just right Finding good halal food while traveling can be hit or miss, but this is easily the best halal place in town. This is a great lunch spot. Skip the sandwich &/or burger spots and go to Cravingrill for a gyro or shawarma! Don't let the fact that this place is connected to a convenience store in a gas station fool you. Cravingrill is a hidden gem w/ BIG flavors. We popped in as we were leaving town on a Saturday around 11a. They had just opened so it took about 10min for our food to be prepared, but it was sooooo worth it. Wife got a Chicken Shawarma wrap and I got a Chicken Tikka Massala wrap. Both came w/ delicious Tzatziki sauce on the side. The woman at the counter was very pleasant and helpful and the food was so good we opted to purchase some Dolmas to take our friends that we were on the way to see. read more

This place is in the same building as the Sinclair gas station/convenience store at the north end of town. I was staying right across the street, so I walked over to grab dinner to go . There are a few tables for indoor and outdoor dining, but there is very limited parking. I had a side order of falafel, and the gyros platter. I went over to the convenience, store to grab soda for dinner. They also have beer and other drinks, and any other items you would expect in a convenience store. The food was excellent! The falafel were hot, tender, and delicious. I've had falafel that were hard as a rock. These were not those. They also had just a tiny bit of a spice to them, which added to the flavor. I really enjoyed them. The gyros platter was huge! The meat was very tender with a great flavor, and I'm not sure what type of rice they used, but it was also fragrant and delicious. It also came with a decent sized salad. They gave me plenty of tzatziki style sauce, for the falafel, the meat, and the salad. The meal was a total home run, and the price was reasonable. If you get your food to go, see if you can get it in a microwavable container. I had enough food for leftovers. I had the falafel as a midnight snack. My gyros platter came in a metallic bowl, and so was unable to reheat it in the microwave in my room for breakfast. I just ate it cold, and it was still just as good. It was a good meal. A great find in Fort Bragg! If you're craving a fusion of Mediterranean and Indian food, this is your spot! We loved everything we ordered. It was wonderful to see that they made almost everything fresh on order. The Mango lassi was particularly delicious. It's a very small space location at a gas station but clean and organized. The folks in the kitchen/ kiosk were very friendly and offered suggestions for our order. Since they made the food from scratch we were happy to wait. We got the "Veggie Platter: Comes with pita bread, hummus, dolmas, Baba ganouj, falafel & tabuleh" (see our photo) The falafel was hard, oily, dense and flavorless. The hummus was super thin and runny (we saw people's photos of their hummus posted on review sites and it didn't look like ours. Maybe it was a bad night?). The 'tabuleh' was just rough chopped parsley with no bulgar and a minute amount of diced tomato. The dolmas were good. The pita bread was really good and the 'baba ganouj' was great! The people running the place seemed nice. The atmosphere is not so nice. We wouldn't recommend based on our meals. read more

Wow, what an amazing little find in Fort Bragg. We stopped here because of the many veggie options available and were not disappointed! The owner/chef was very nice & gave us a couple of falafels to sample when he realised we'd ordered non-falafel items. I got the veggie gyro plate and my husband tried their cauliflower wrap, both of which were awesome. Not a lot of Mediterranean places serve veggie gyro so i was excited to try this. It was fantastic, I wish more places have this on their menu. The cauliflower wrap was also very tasty along with the spicy hummus and tahini. I'd definitely come back the next time I visit Mendocino & I think all vegetarians should stop by to try one of their entrees. You'll love it, I promise. read more

Decent Mediterrean food next to the gas station, yep. Was in town visiting with a friend recently and we came here for lunch and it served its purpose. This little eatery is right next door to the corner fuel station with a few parking places in front. There is a small outside seating area with a couple tables and a few chairs. Inside is walk up counter service with both menus and overhead boards, along with a couple places to sit, its definitely more of a take it and go kind of place. I went for the Chicken Shawarma platter it came in a to go container and a packet of plasticware, it was an okay portion of grilled chicken and sides of a large fresh greens salad and rice. The chicken was good a little dry though, the salad fresh and flavorful and the rice was okay. The yogurt dressing I used to add some moisture to the chicken, and it helped. 3 Stars - it was okay, not great but not bad. What. A. Find. I now know the hands-down winner of "best gas station food" in Northern California! It's Cravingrill in Fort Bragg. Tucked into the outside corner of the station, Cravingrill is an oasis of Middle Eastern flavor in an otherwise flavor desert that Fort Bragg can be. Inside you'll find assorted proteins like shawarma, gyros, chicken masala, doner kabob, as well as veggie offerings like falafel, hummus, baba ganoush, roasted eggplant or cauliflower, and dolmas. It's all a little Greek, a little Palestinian, a little Indian... but it all adds up to A LOT of flavor! We got the combo platter of gyro meat and chicken shawarma with salad and the veggie platter (hummus, baba ganoush, falafel, dolmas, tabbouleh, and a pita roll). We also got the Greek salad and roasted cauliflower. Everything was delicious, and flavors and preparation were on point. We both commented that this is Bay Area level middle eastern food... not watered down for a sleepy North Coast town. I know, that smacks of elitism, but we've had our share of weak "middle eastern" offerings while traveling. Service was friendly, fast, and uneventful. The Chicken Tikka Masala was meh. Portion was small, hardly any rice. One small nan which seemed very dry and old. The chicken in the chicken shawarma platter was tiny dried out pieces that looked like bits of shoe leather. The two platters cost 35.00 before tipping. Not even close to being worth it. My 91 year old mom paid for it and was so excited to try the food. I was mortified. I am not going back. read more

The other half of my #thirstythursday #birthday celebration was dinner from the Cravingrill. This was a place I have sampled a lot from as I dig their food, just hadn't been there in a minute. They have a cool spot connected to the dino mart gas station and use it to perfection. They have a great selection as you can see from the menu, I had the Gyro plate which was so big, I'm taking half to work today. It was flavorful and cooked to perfection with a divine salad dressing. We don't have many choices like this in town and we are blessed to have this one. When you're ready to break from the burgers, burritos, pizza, wontons and clam chowder that's is everywhere try this place. You won't be sorry. read more

On our way to the beach, we stopped in here to grab something that we could take down to the water to have our lunch near the waves. Parking was free onsite, after maneuvering around folx trying to get to their gas pumps. Inside, the atmosphere is very hectic, and I couldn't quite figure out the vibe of their menu. They had Indian, middle eastern, Thai stuff, Japanese stuff, it was all over the map. This should have been a red flag that they didn't really specialize in anything and were trying to do too much. That said, we decided to give them a try anyway because we didn't see much else in the area that was in our interest zone. Hubby ordered a gyro wrap and I ordered a vegetarian plate with dolmas and falafel, and we ordered a couple sides of their various sauces too because one can never have too many sauces. Despite only having one other order while we were there, they took a super long time getting our order together, and at one point, I just went outside and sat in the sun for awhile. Once the food was ready, we packed up to leave, and there were three cars vying for our parking space at the same time. Due to the proximity of the gas station, getting in and out is super challenging, and with three people trying to get into one single parking spot, it was a mess. Eventually, we figured it out and we were off. At the beach we opened up the containers and at first glance, the food looked ok. Hubby thought his gyro was mediocre at best, and didn't feel like anything in it was particularly fresh tasting. My dish was super heavy, the dolmas were probably the best part but even so, not thrilling... the falafel were soggy on the outside and dry on the inside, and the hummus and other dips were really lackluster. Overall, prices were ok but for the quality of the food, we would definitely not return here on another trip to the area. read more

This hole in the wall is located at the Sinclarie gas station. There are about 3 parking spot right out front. At first, we were debating on whether to eat here or not due to the location but we were pleasantly surprised. It's not too far from the Glass Beach and may be easily missed. Service was a bit slow but there were a few orders ahead of us. We ordered take out and brought it back to our hotel, although there are a few tables inside and outside of the restaurant, so there is space to sit. We ordered the chicken shawarma platter and the veggie platter. The veggie platter was really wet, probably due to the tabuleh salad and it made the rest of the plate really soggy. I liked the chicken shawarma platter. The chicken pieces were good sizes and were nicely flavored without being overpowering. The two platters came with 1 tahini sauce each and we thought they won't charge for the extra garlic sauce but we were surprised when we found out that they charged $1 for the extra garlic sauce. read more

Barely noticed this on the Apple Maps while passing by. Glad I found it. Solid mix of different Mediterranean and Indian food yet with a mix of different specialty drinks that include boba drinks, teas and lemonade. Locations is somewhat hidden with not much seating as part of the gas station. I was recommended the chicken tikka masala platter and also got myself the lemonade (superb choice!). I wasn't expecting the food to be quite good due to its location but it definitely did its job and more. Glad this little town has some variety available that isn't half assed. The Gyros plate is delicious! The chicken is to die for. The hummus is some of the best in California. Period. (So is that three periods?!) the only downfall is the salad is meh, but that only takes it down 0.25 stars at a total 4.75 out of 5 stars. This little "gas station looking" restaurant deserves much more attention then its getting. The girl who took care of us was wonderful as well. The guys working here and the gas station were on the usual inhibitive side, but that may just be a cultural thing. Give this joint a whirl. Hi. Love Craving Grill but had a not so good experience there. Ordered a Gyro and a Chicken Sharma and waited 1/2 hour for it. I wouldn't have minded so much except they didn't inform me they were short staffed and late until after I had been sitting there for so long. The chicken was cold and extremely dry. The gyro and veg was good though. I wouldn't have even reviewed, but they have tragically altered the garlic sauce recipe. It tasted like it had been diluted with mayonnaise, which is very, very sad because that sauce was AWESOME. If Craving Grill reads this I hope they bring back the original recipe. read more

Pretty good Mediterranean food, especially given the area. Overall, the flavors were as expected. The falafel was crunchy and the garlic sauce was especially delicious. The fattoush salad was missing crunch. I'm used to a fattoush having pieces of fried pita in it and it made the fattoush much less enjoyable with the crunch. All food is prepared in carry-out containers whether you want to eat it there (3 tables inside, 1 outside). That was a little disappointing. My complaints are nit-picky and overall this was a good meal and nice to find Mediterranean way up here in Ft. Bragg. read more

I avoided this restaurant since it's connected to a gas station but a friend vouched for their food and I am a hummusaphile. ;-) We tried the samosa platter, vegetable platter, and a side of hummus. It's quite pricey. But there is no competition. I haven't been able to find a fresh hummus in Mendocino or Fort Bragg. It's acceptable but I prefer more tahini and less lemon and garlic. The babaganoush is also acceptable as are the falafel. I didn't like the stuffed grape leaves. My partner enjoyed the samosas; I'll check them out next time. When we were in town last year, I saw this spot and was intrigued but we didn't get a chance to stop in. This time I checked it out when we stopped for gas on our way to dinner. I peaked in to check it out and the owner greeted me and was super friendly. I told him I was just looking, since we were on our way to pizza. I wanted to see if the meat was on the spike. It was!! He gave me samples of the gyro and the chicken and they were both delicious!!! So flavorful and tender! The next day we went and picked up gyros and dolmas to eat on the beach and they were all absolutely delicious! Extra tzatziki came on the side, which was one of the best I've had. Meat was tender and the veggies were delicious! I will always look forward to stopping here when were in town. Scrumptious grilled meat, citrusy dolmas, and couple of cold ones made for an awesome beach picnic. Not your average gas station snacks! read more
