There is a side bag I carry often that I am very fond of. Recently a hole formed in one of the smaller pockets and I needed to get it fixed. After visiting a couple shops nearby I looked up local tailors via the ol' Yelp app and Cranford Custom Tailors showed up a couple blocks away. I visited them and expected them to make me wait a while or even days to get the bag fixed. However, the staff was super friendly and kind, taking my bag and fixing it in minutes! They only charged a few bucks and I was on my way in under 10 minutes. The shop itself is not huge, but it has rooms for you to try your clothes on and there were tons of suits and clothes hanging around waiting for pick up, so clearly this business is well regarded. This makes me feel very good about coming back for my future tailoring needs. read more

I had a bridesmaids dress altered here. I dropped it off at the end of September. I called them about a week into November as I hadn't heard yet and the event was coming up. They said that it was ready, but I never got a call. Upon picking up the dress they charged $100 for the alterations. The dress is not too intricate, and I thought the price was a little steep. Brought in 15 dresses and all ruined. The elastic was messed up and the hems were crooked.

My prom is on a Friday I came in on the Wednesday to pick up my dress when I asked them to fix one of the clips and take it in on my waist. they completely ruined the dress they took in the waist but did not fix the clip and took off so much fabric from the top of it. i don't know what i'm gonna do now because the part that was supposed to rest on my chest is now on my collarbone. i didn't ask the top to be touched at all. read more

I can't comment on their alterations, but they do fantastic repairs. I ripped the pocket seam on a $200 pair of dress pants, and since my sewing skills are non-existent, I took them to these guys. I was really hoping to leave a great review since alfanso was recommended by several people on cranford talks. Unfortunately that's not the case. Gave in a dress and pants for alterations(take in), I needed the pants the following Saturday, pick up was on friday. Friday, they closed early couldn't get pants, came in on Saturday at 11am closed with note on window "we'll open at 1pm sorry for inconvenience" my event is at 2 so we're okay. Came in at 1 still closed, came back at 1:30 still closed. End result didn't get my stuff till Tuesday.Both items are still big on me and there's weird lining from waist to knees only on the front of the pants which literally feels like a plastic bag is sticking to the front of my thighs. Nothing was ever mentioned about the pants being lined, it's a fine Italian suit that doesn't need ANY lining. I called on Wednesday, no answer. It's fine I thought, I'll drop it off in the morning before I go to work they open at 8 and have him take off the lining and actually take in the pants.Came there at 8:15 aaaaand they're closed. I don't recall the last time I was this frustrated with a business. So much for wanting to support downtowns small businesses, they clear could give less about us. It makes sense why it's cash only because I'd definitely do charge back on the card. read more

I went to this tailor because he was well-reviewed on Yelp. I don't know what everyone else is thinking, because the work that I got done was terrible. I had two suits tailored, and I would have refused to pay for any of it if I had the balls to argue about it. On one suit, the tailor took the jacket in too much and it looks like it's stretched out when I button the jacket. The sleeves on the jacket are too long. There's a funny crease under the left armhole. The waist of the pants were not taken in well and they drape funny. Also he didn't hem the pants short enough. When he marked the length of my pants I asked them to be shorter, and he kind of ignored me so I made of point of going back to the pants, taking the chalk from him and marking where I wanted the pants hemmed. He totally ignored that. I also asked for the pants to be tapered and he did, not enough to make the pants look modern/currently fashionable--just enough to make them look like a sloppy tailor job. The hem is also clearly visible three inches up from the bottom of the pant leg. The second suit is just as bad, so I won't go into details. I also won't be coming back. If you're a young man and you want a modern, slim fitting suit, do not go to this tailor. read more

My family has been using this tailor for years, I personally never have, until recently. I am going to a wedding and my partner needed her pants and shirt hemmed. I completely forgot about it until a week before we were to leave for said wedding. I panicked and brought them in to him. He had them done in just a few days and everything was done to perfection! Prices are great as well! I paid $48 for shirt sleeves to be shortened, pants to be hemmed and also let out a little bit! Job well done! read more

It has taken me about 9 months to be able to tell, without expletives, my horrid experience here. I gave them a job to hem one sheer curtain panel & the job was excellent - The curtain, when completed, was nicely hemmed & pressed & hung over a dry cleaners' hanger - which impressed me greatly. I then gave them a group of 7 similar additional curtains along with the one curtain that they just finished to use as the sample for all the other 7 curtains. At some point while they had all of my curtains in their possession to complete, the lady of the store contacted me by phone & mentioned that the originally scheduled due date of completion could not be honored because the person who took my order in was not aware that the shop was going to be closed for a week or two for vacation & would I be agreeable to allow them this extension? I cheerfully, without hesitation, agreed to allow them to extend the due date. I was in no hurry for the items & I wanted to allow them this small consideration. All 8 curtains were to be the same length. When done, I went to pick up my order - I found that they lost the sample - they argued with me that they never had the sample curtain to begin with (However, the receipt proved them wrong - as the receipt never stated the inches in length to be done - so logically, if it were not for the sample curtain they would not have known how short to make the other 7 curtains). After getting about 20 minutes of argument, run-around & disrespectful pushback from whom I believe were the owners, my sample was eventually found wedged under the tailor's table, on the floor in the dust & debris. I was not going to leave until they found it. No apology was given, and of course no effort to reduce the fee was offered for this unfortunate experience. They acted like losing property of a customer was somehow normal. And I would like to add that the seven sheer curtains, not heavy drapes, which I spent $140 on to be hemmed, were given to me in a mishmash pile (which meant that I needed to iron them before I hung them) & not nicely hung on a dry cleaners' hanger as I had anticipated. I came here with a suit I purchased with a specific look in mind. I bought the suit at the store, but it needed some tightening up in the torso and shortening of the length in the legs. I came here from my buddy Matt S.'s review and recommendation... Great. Move. This guy is terrific. I took my coat in today to get two buttons fixed. They were super nice & quick. I came back in 30 minutes & it was done. They even fixed a hole in the pocket, which I had forgot to mention. I have no clue how the reviews are so high for this place. I brought in three shirts and two suits to be tailored. The shirts turned out fine, they just needed the sleeves shortened. But the suits... Oh my god. So, this guy doesn't measure anything or write anything down. He just marks the clothes with chalk, that's it. I thought it was strange, but I figured he's this SUPER highly rated expert, he must know what he's doing. So, when I got my suits back, the two sets of pants were entirely different lengths. I can't even understand how that could happen. He marked them individually, and, oh yeah, they're both for the same person! You'd think he'd notice that one pair was a full two inches longer than the other. Additionally, I told him I wanted the pants to have a slim fit, as the jackets for both were slim fit. But the pants were both still baggy and made me look fat and lumpy. So I went back in, he redrew some chalk lines on everything, and I'm supposed to go back in a few days to pick them up. Presumably for free, as he already charged me $185 total for the three shirts and two suits (the jackets needed VERY minimal tailoring). Speaking of the jackets, I didn't pay much attention to the sleeves as I was more concerned with the shoulders/chest, but today I was trying on a new dress shirt with the jackets, and both jackets' sleeves are about 3/4" too long. They cover up the shirt sleeve entirely, which is not how they should be. At this point, I don't even want to go back. I wear suits like three times a year, so I'll just deal with it. Before you go here, ask yourself this: Should it really take THREE VISITS to get a suit tailored? Seriously, NO CLUE how the other reviews are so high. He's incompetent and charges way too much! Not sure why my Yelp app review didn't post but wanted to comment again to make it known how incredible these people are. I lost too much weight to fit properly into a formal gown that needed bust, waist, and upper derrier adjustments and frantically called this business. They were happy to pin me the same day and delivered on a beautiful tailoring job within a week and change. This after two other tailors in the area refused my work for being "too complicated" as the seams had lace appliques stitched OVER them. The dress came back in perfect condition, with the appliques removed and sewn back in (the right way to do it!) and for an extremely competitive rate. I will be coming to this business for all of my tailoring needs from now on! Thank you!!! read more

The shop is a small family owned place, my family has been going there for years and we keep going. The guy doesn't speak much English but he definitely speaks alterations! The guy barely speaks English it seems, but he understands how to tailor your suit to make you look good. He works fast, is reliable, and inexpensive. Cranford Custom Tailors has done a great job with every article of clothing I have given them, whether it has been a blazer, pants, or even a football jersey. If you are wiling to communicate, they are very up front with the fees, as well as accommodating, and friendly. The only drawback in my mind (and obviously not enough to lower their rating) is that it is a cash only business. I recently switched my tailor from Westfield Tailors (In my opinion the other main tailors in the area) and I will never go back. Issues I had routinely at Westfield tailors, like my clothing never being ready on time, lack of definitive price, and pour tailoring which required multiple visits and many excuses has never occurred to me at Cranford Custom Tailors. I have been going to them for about a year and a half and it looks like I will continue going to them for a long time! read more
