Is everybody super high reviewing this restaurant? Seriously. Location is good. Ambience is interesting. Padres baseball on 1 TV and funny car racing on the other. Who actually follows funny car? Weird. Service was initially good and we got sat...then a turn for the forgetful. Ordered drinks and food at the same time...and got them at the same time. And I don't mean these people were efficient...glad I wasn't dying of thirst or I'd be dead. I got a burger (good actually) fries were from frozen, nit seasoned, asked for ranch twice and didn't not receive. Pizza was also soggy and ingredients were from Walmart at best. Margarita flight was meh. Cloudy IPA was really good, fried oysters were really tasty and crunchy delicious. Salad was bland and soggy. For the people that rank this place at 4/5 stars I really worry for your health! Get a beer. Get a burger. Enjoy some funny car. That's it. read more

I had a great experience at Craft 31! I'm not up in the Williamsburg area often, but I had a meeting scheduled up that way and after I was starving. It just so happened as I was driving back towards Newport News, I stumbled on this place. I've gotten coupons and promotions from the in the mail before and they looked good, so I figured, why not? The building is really cute - almost like a house, not a restaurant. They've got ample indoor and outdoor seating with plenty of parking. I ordered the bleu cheese burger which is quite out of my wheelhouse but I wanted to give it a try. Wow! This was a *great* burger. Like, really, really good. I got the sweet potato waffle fries with it and they were also quite tasty. I liked the sweet glaze they came with (I got it on the side and I'm glad I did). The ambiance is nice (the multicolored sugar on the table was a fun touch - even if I didn't use any) and service was excellent. The manager checked on me during my stay as well. Honestly, there's not much I can say that was bad about this experience - I'm only going with 4 stars because I usually like to have a few visits under my belt for consistency's sake before doling out the 5. But I'm *definitely* putting this place on my list of spots to eat again at next time I'm in that area! read more

The location is a little off the beaten track but still close to most of Williamsburg's shopping and attractions. It was recommended to me by a friend and when I checked it out online, I discovered it was owned by the same folks who own Schlesinger's in Newport News and Opus 9 Steakhouse in Williamsburg - two excellent fine dining experiences. They also have some sort of affiliation with Bottom's Up Pizza in Richmond which has some of the best pizza on the eastern seaboard. All this to say that as soon as I heard mention of it I had to check it out. I visited for lunch on a Wednesday and found it moderately busy but plenty parking and seating available. The interior is nice, it was clean but not really remarkable. Service was good and extremely polite, but perhaps a little too talkative... although I appreciated the menu recommendations I didn't ask for them.... although I appreciated the drink refills I didn't really need the conversation that came with them...you get the picture. I ordered the Tuna Poke appetizer and Cobb Salad for my meal. Both were very good. The chips with the tuna tasted homemade as did the green goddess dressing that came with the salad. The salad was a little sparse and with the appetizer was plenty food; but ordering both was a bit pricey for a lunch. With a glass of tea and tip the total came to around $40. In closing, it was good but not really "special". I'll be back for the pizza though. "The Chesapeake" at Bottoms Up is one of my all time favorites and I've never seen it on a menu anywhere else. Our family has found this hidden gem while visiting Williamsburg, we've dined here two different times when we've been in the area. We absolutely love it. Pretty good kids' menu with decent sized portions for our medium-sized kids. They especially enjoyed the in-house potato chips with Old Bay seasoning (so did we). We enjoyed the many different drink options. If you, like me, can't decide, you can build a flight of 1-4 five ounce tasters. After I got mine, I saw a flight of margaritas walk by. Kinda regret not trying it. Parking is in a private lot, and you're out of downtown so you won't have problems parking. Great option if you are in the historic triangle. read more

The ambiance is open and quiet. Rather clean and had a lot of natural lights. They had fairly clean gender neutral bathrooms as well. The food was decent. They have a vast menu so some things were better than others. They have options for vegetarian and vegans which was also nice. The highlight of my meal was their vegan cheese pizza. Super experience at Craft 31! We came around 6 on a Saturday night to find a wait of about 30 minutes. We ended up snagging spots at the bar and eating there. The restaurant got progressively more busy but the staff worked hard to keep everything moving. I enjoyed a margarita flight- which was tasty, not overly sweet and a fun presentation! We had the mozzarella tracks (basically big cheesy garlic sticks) that was plenty to share! For dinner, my friends got burgers and I got the chicken sandwich. We enjoyed fresh crushes, the cucumber lemon drop and sampled the Cinnamon Toast Crunch adult milkshake. I was too full to order my own but oh my gosh it was heavenly. We will be back!! read more

Ok I've read some of the recent reviews and folks need to chill out. Williamsburg is in a catastrophic labor shortage. If you don't have the patience to wait then please don't go and let the rest of us advance in the queue. The food here is well worth it. We started out with the pimiento cheese and pita chips. Let's just say they did not last long. The chips were baked to perfection and the smokiness of the pimento really melted in your mouth. We also ordered Oysters Rockefeller. These were pretty good but had small specks of shell in the meat but not the end of the world. For my main course, I ordered the Lone Star burger. Boy was this thing good. As you can see in the pictures, it was gooey goodness. The brisket and cheese combo really made me feel like I was having a burger down in Texas. For drinks we got the margarita flights. These were hit and miss with either being strong or not strong enough. Overall pretty good though and I recommend getting them for the fun appeal (so colorful) Definitely give Craft a stop whether you are visiting or a local. Will you have to wait? Maybe so. Will the service be a tad slow? Quite possibly. It is like this everywhere. Adapt to it. It is the new normal. The food here is worth the wait. read more

Fantastic wings. I wish they could have been a little less expensive, but I'd buy them again and again. We got the garlic parm and chefs kiss. Our server was on point. Prompt and attentive. Food came out quickly, it was hot and fresh. We also got an order of the truffle parm fries and an order of the glazed sweet potato fries with our wings, and a peppermint stout beer. It was a relaxed but nice atmosphere, perfect for a date night after 8pm after a long day of Christmas shopping in the area. Let me say up front that my family had a nice experience at Craft 31. Even though it was cool outside, we chose to sit in their outside seating area. They closed the big garage doors and had some heaters, so it was plenty warm. They also had a acoustic guitar playing/singer, which was nice. The food was definitely serviceable, nothing was bad but nothing was great either. The tot-chos reminded me of something I could easily make at home. I got the hot dog, which may have been the highlight. The dog itself was excellent. Toppings were ok. Burger was ok. Shrimp and grits also ok. Fish and chips were good. But for $20+ we were expecting something more. Again, there was nothing awful about anything we had. It just wasn't memorable either. read more

The worst restaurant in the area, especially if you do not know better. Tourist beware of this location. No bang for your buck. Think I'm joking? Order burger french fries and see the white castle patty and 10 fries you get back. Take out meal, look like children's meal portion. Jambalaya was made entirely wrong. Chicken, shrimp, and sausage is suppose to be mixed together, not sitting on 4 small piles with less than handful of rice. They are price gauging when portions are this horrible. Horrible experience (1/5 stars) REDEEMED post-visit by the managers' empathy and prompt reactionary customer service (4/5 stars). Story time boys n girls.... Short stay in "the 'burg" (Williamsburg) required family dinner but Spring Break 2021 "post COVID" (we thought) created several challenges, namely crowds. Arrived to a 2 hour wait for a table; while reviewing the menu, I "cleverly" (we thought) discovered it was a 45-60m wait for takeout..."great" (we thought)...so I ordered for our party of 5, drove to the grocery store, and returned for pickup. Long story short? It took over 2 hours, family in tote (mini-van), until our order surfaced, despite me asking at the bar several times. It was so late, they locked the doors for closing just as I left. On sitting down together at the hotel, 3 items (salad, burgers) were made wrong AND the 2 other burgers looked like they were sitting for an extended period of time. I called and asked to speak with a manager. When I started to recount the above, he apologized profusely, claiming kitchen and staffing challenges as a result of the return post-COVID. He then insisted on a majority refund. Given the menu and the redemptive gesture, I'd go back BUT NOT when there's any sort of wait despite the HDTVs around the bar for feeble distraction. read more

I do not really know what "pbr batter" is nor can I find a description on the internet, but it formed a tasteless hard shell around the most un-flaky semi-solid cod ever - like it had been frozen a long time ago. This fried cod was totally inconsistent in taste & texture with any I have ever! The cole slaw was chopped cabbage lightly sprinkled with a little "old bay" seasoning and apparently "not dressed". Glad we were able to make a reservation for dinner on Mother's Day! When we arrived, they were turning walk-in parties away. Highly recommend making a reservation to avoid that! They continue to space the tables indoors so we felt safe dining. They also have an outdoor seating area available. To start, we couldn't decide on an appetizer - so kids had the pulled pork tot-chos (bbq smothered on tater tots), and we had the crab dip with spinach and artichoke hearts. Both were good. The crispy pita chips that came with the crab dip were a treat! We had the Wake and Bake burger (served on a crumpet/English muffin and topped with a fried egg), and the Lone star burger which was topped with brisket. The wake and bake came with candied bacon, which was a bit too sweet for me. Lone star burger was okay. Both were cooked to our preference (medium). Our server was a superstar - thank you Clinton, for the excellent service! We felt well attended and our cups never ran empty. Will return to try their pizzas and brunch :) read more

It is unfortunate that a place my wife and I have enjoyed since moving to Williamsburg is now ruined and off our places to visit. Thanks to the owner, Stephen Smith, and his unwarranted reaction to a "Thank you" note I left on my business card to show appreciation to the bartender we had the pleasure of serving us. This is Stephen's email to me (he also copied his managers of restaurants): "Hey Todd, don't do this. Someone (me) might consider it a blatant and transparent attempt to poach employees. If it is your intention to get yourself banned from my restaurants please respond to this email in any way which causes me agita." I do not take kindly to bullies who assume. Here is my response: "Greetings Stephen, Let me provide some clarity, whether it is local or in my travels I have always left a business card to note good service, food, and atmosphere. I believe in letting those that work so hard in our chosen field know they are appreciated. As a lifelong hospitality professional, I do not attempt to "poach" employees, talent finds its way to where they are nurtured and respected. Your presentiment about my card or desire is unwarranted. I downloading this app just for this review...The experience was misleading as a whole. The funnel cake pancake was a 4/10 pancake that didn't even taste like funnel cake or have any funnel cake features. The service was sub par and the food took an extremely long time for what I got. The portions were also measly. The waitress also seemed to have an attitude when I mentioned the pancakes were misleading. Highly would recommend avoiding this place and finding another option. Bloody Mary Bar AND Brunch? Yes please! The 3 egg omelette (build your own - mine was mozzarella, bacon, spinach, and tomato) was delish! And the make your own Bloody Mary Bar was fun and yummy too. Everyone from the Host, the Waitress(es), and the Manager were wonderful. I also enjoyed the atmosphere. Whoever designed/decorated that quaint space is awesome. 3/20/2021: Super friendly and attentive staff plus a delicious and innovative menu equal a recipe for success here at Craft 31. Our large family gathering of ~23 filled the outdoor bar area (garage doors were closed due to the chilly temperature) and we thoroughly enjoyed our time together. The roaring fireplace was so welcome on such a chilly day. A few of us ordered the margarita flight but sadly, we weren't fans of them. The drinks weren't cold and two flavors (sea foam and raspberry?) were muddled and after two small sips, the rest remained untouched. Despite this, the drinks were beautifully presented and made us all long for warmer days and a tropical vacation. The staff ensured we were well attended. They even kind enough to oblige us in taking a family photo. Handcrafted pizzas had a thin, crisp crust and were well topped and seasoned. The fruit cobblers are served in a mini cast iron skillet warmed several of us on a brisk March afternoon. They could easily be shared by 2-4 people. We'll be back soon, hopefully with warmer weather. read more

We found Craft 31 before COVID and on several visits were delighted. Excellent tap list, great wait staff, delicious food, wonderful atmosphere. We visit Williamsburg several times each year, but we couldn't remember the name nor location for several years so we were delighted when we stumbled across it again this weekend. Stopped by Friday, the wait was an hour so we put in an Opentable reservation for Saturday night for the patio, since we had our 18# dog with us. Unfortunately, it wasn't a great experience. Service: Our waitress, Brittnee, was very kind and attentive. However, the waitress serving the table behind us was friends with folks at that table, and she spent no less than 25 minutes hanging out and chatting at the table. She was easily overheard sharing stories of how she'd been fired from another service job for drinking and telling off customers. Moreover, the volume level and vulgar language from the party in general was unacceptable given that there were several small children nearby. I had to get up and ask them to tone it down, making direct eye contact with the waitress. She said nothing and continued on chatting after I walked away. Atmosphere: as do many establishments in Williamsburg, Craft 31 accommodates dogs on their porch. They even have a sign out front that says "well behaved dogs welcome." However, several customers took far too much liberty with this. One mid-sized dog barked almost non-stop and got into it with other dogs twice. Another customer walked in with three 80# labradoodles, and were inexplicably seated right in the center of the patio. It forced customers and wait staff to reroute around them, which was made worse by the fact that the owner let themselves feel right at home; for example, one sat up with its head above table level at a NEIGHBORING table. It was obviously awkward for the neighboring family, and would have been funny were it not so rude. Food - mostly good. Fried Oreos were awesome. I wish the pizza crust was more Neapolitan style, but it as thick and bready in the center. Also, the burger we asked for as medium well but was rare. Anyway, I can understand a few kitchen misses and that sometimes dogs get rowdy, but the sum total of the experience sent a message that said "our front-of-house management lacks control and professionalism, dine at your own risk." I remember saying out loud to myself before dessert arrived that I'd never come back. Very disappointing. read more

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - As far as your basic brewpub goes, with some beers on tap and some sandwiches and pizza, this place is gold. Wife and I went on a Friday, 1 pm. Ample parking. Seated right away. Ambience - clean, the heated patio area is dandy. Beer - really good selection of mostly Virginia beers. Like, dang good selection. Food - you kiddin' me? The $12 lunch special is a ridiculous good value. Wife's pizza was easily too much for her, even with my gluttonous ass helping. Thin crust but not crunchy, crackery thin. Good sauce. I had the fried chicken sandwich - big 'ol piece of thigh meat, very crispy. As part of the lunch special, we both got side house salads - a decent size and more than just some lettuce on a plate. I mean, back home in the DC area, that sandwich alone would set me back $16-$17. Our flight of four beers cost like $11. So lots of decent food, very good beer selection, great value ... definitely coming back. And recommending to you, dear reader. read more

First things first: this place loves dogs! We were in town to have CT scans done on our younger pup.....so a VERY somber day for us. The staff welcomed us and gave us a primo spot on the porch in the shade on this lovely (weather) day. I'll be honest, I don't even remember exactly what we ordered, but the food was excellent, the service stellar, and even sweet Matti gives five stars for the attentive wait staff, who made sure she had and endless supply of chilled water. The staff was awesome at handling our delicate...and emotional,,,visit with tact and grace. Highly recommend Craft 31. Our waitress Aliana was great! She knew the menu well and explained everything to us. Being from North Carolina we have Eastern North Carolina barbecue which is chopped pork with vinegar & red pepper; and western NC barbecue/South Carolina barbecue which is pulled pork with barbecue sauce. This barbecue was more like western NC/SC barbecue. It was kind of dry. The fries were good. My husband had the house smoked barbecue plate which included beef brisket pulled pork barbecue and for smoke wings with baked beans and coleslaw. The wings were pretty bad. They tasted like liquid smoke was poured on them. Overall, the meal was just okay. Food: 3-stars Overall, would I go back? Yes. The service was wonderful, the outside area was great, and being out of town but finding a place to drink and watch a game is nice. I would order something different to eat if we were in town again. We saw this place on the Upside app for 8% back and decided to stop. The reviews were good, and the lot was nearly full, a good omen! Seated right away, and the drinks were nearly immediate. The menu is decent sized for the restaurant. They also have an extensive drink list, sorry, did not look at, but were advised they support the local beer industry. Our server, Morgan, gave us her on the spot recommendations. She is a valuable asset to this business and right about crowd pleasers. My husband ordered the Black and Blue burger, a handmade 7oz blend of meats, iron skillet fried fresh meat. The blue cheese was amazing! It came with a side, and he chose the baked beans, a treat. I chose the smoked chicken wings (6) with a BBQ dry rub. This rub had a touch of sweetness and a smoky flavor, pure delight. Served with your choice of ranch or blue cheese. They are smoked on-site outback. Several seasonings are available on the menu. This restaurant has something called a Bottoms Up Pizza, which turns out to be a regular pizza. It is just the name of the franchise. The manager, Jason, came by and talked to us extensively. He loves his job here and has been on-site for 4 years. We came to Craft 31 for the first time this evening - I have mixed feelings. The Good: - Drinks: Marg Flight was wonderful. It was nice to get a little sample of each one. It was also presented well. - Ambiance: the restaurant was clean and tidy. We sat over on the bar side of the house and even there it was clean and well maintained. - Hostess staff: the ladies at the front were very friendly and quick to get us seated. The Not-So-Good: - Wait Staff: our waitress was not personable at all, nor did she provide any recommendations when asked for her opinion on the drink menu. She did not check on us during our time there other than when she was bringing our drinks or food. - Service Time: the service was *painfully* slow. It took well over an hour (pushing and hour and a half) to receive our drinks (Marg Flight and beer on tap) and a half pound of (average) steamed shrimp. Not once did our waitress come over and give a status update from the kitchen. It was not particularly busy when we walked in, and they seemed to be pretty well staffed. All-in-All: we will be back to sit at the bar. I don't think we will come with intentions on eating dinner, but the bar selection would be worth another visit. read more
