Rude, rude, rude. Walked in with my special needs daughter this morning hoping to find something interesting for my wife's birthday. Instead we were subjected to very odd and rude behavior by the lady who owns the place.When I pointed out to her how odd her comment was she told me "thanks for bringing it up to my attention" and proceeded to laugh. What a rude lady. First, she comes to work, opens the door, takes out her blower and proceeds to blow detritus all over everyone around. No apologies, no warning, no heads up. Alrighty then... no worries, keeping her area clean. Cool. She then gets in a confrontation with a person who innocently asked if she was open. Note here, door is open and she is putting items out on the sidewalk. She pointedly said, "Does it look like I'm open?" "What does the sign say?" You don't care, you are on vacation, I live here." The victim was nothing but courteous. The poor potential patron looked nonplussed and gave up. The used to be patron then made the mistake of saying "Mahalo". You would think this person just stole her youngest child. A couple of points here: I wonder how many locals shop at a knick knack store. Why be rude to someone asking an innocent question. There are a lot of people (mostly tourists) waiting for a seat at the restaurant next door who heard the whole conversation, and dealt with having stuff blown all over them. No one, I mean no one, decided to peruse her wares while we sat there. Wonder why? I know there is a lot of animosity towards tourists in Hawai'i, I lived there for 15 years. But come on... let's have some decency. Especially when most of this lady's income comes from tourists. read more

Was standing on the sidewalk in front of this forgettable little business when a masked old woman starting yelling unprovoked at people to give her six feet of space to bring out her goods. Then she insulted a number of people including a couple who saw the open door, assumed it was open, and started to go in. They were told they couldn't read and then got a dissertation about how stupid tourists were and that they can't read the hours of operation sign. When I took a picture of her, she told me to post my review on Yelp, which was the first intelligent thing this auntie had to say. Mahalo. read more

Owner is a hateful and ugly person. After eating at Hawaiian Style 4 years ago, we decided to go into this shop. I wish we hadn't. The owner of this store is completely unhinged and rude. I had a very intense and weird interaction with her. I shrugged it off as her being older, perhaps not liking tourists (even though her store seems to cater towards them?) and thought maybe she was just having a bad day. Fast forward 4 years later, I went in again, and she was the exact same way. So beyond rude. I am a respectful tourist and I love supporting local business while I am on the Island, but I would never, ever recommend her store or go there again. She is the complete opposite of aloha and I don't need to be Hawaiian to know that. I was not surprised at all to come on here and see people having the same experiences with her. Going to Hawaiian Style? Don't bother going into this store. You'll only leave completely baffled by this rude woman's behavior and it will spoil your breakfast. read more

This place is crap. The little I saw of the merchandise it was old, faded, expired, and way overpriced. The lady inside was one of the rudest people I have ever met. I find the locals to be so sweet and helpful, she is the exception!!! She is one of the craziest, rudest and most insulting people I've ever met. I think this shop is named appropriately as a front to sell crack cocaine, because the lady working there is definitely on crack. I am disabled and came in with my trained service dog ‍ (vest on and everything, even though that is not legally required.) The owner immediately raised her voice and demanded that we leave. I calmly explained that my dog was very clearly a service dog and that The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits discrimination with being asked to leave a premise. She got up out of her seat and screamed that she had a dog in the back room, that she was eating, and to GET OUT all while aggressively and quickly coming towards me and my dog. This scared both my dog and myself, and we both ran outside, where she closed the door on us. read more

This place is definitely a trip down memory lane for me, back to the 'Hana battah' days with grandma, the aunties and grandpa. Dare I say that it's almost as good as the old school home made stuff (sorry grandma). The 'Aunty' behind the counter is extremely knowledgable about 'seeds' and the Hawaiian culture. Rude worker (not sure if owner as this woman clearly lacked any form or ability to have the intelligence to operate a cell phone let alone a business) with a personality of my rubber slipper. No reason to ever stop in here and as a local boy, this venue is clearly a collection of stuff that belongs in a recycle pile. To call this store a "crackseed" store, which reminds so many of us local kids of our childhood days, aunty behind the counter could've at least provided a more authentic selection next to her sad excuse of Hawaii-based goods and lauhala goods. After not being greeted while looking through all the Asian country replica made products being sold as pieces of Hawaii, the worker asked me to not take a picture of her sad excuse of empty jars of crackseed items. I instantly looked on Instagram and voila the very image I wanted to take had been taken prior by someone else and posted. To top off the warm aloha spirit exuding from the worker, the signage did very little to entice commerce or interest in items but shouted NO TOUCH or other non-customer service notions to further show why this business owner clearly deserves a nice bankruptcy filing due to her care for her audience. Also, half-eaten cone sushi sitting in the refrigerator next to available products for sale inspired me to do more than simply report her to the department of health. We were waiting for the restaurant next door and went into this shop. At first it was a walk down memory lane, but it quickly turned into a nightmare of being yelled at and lectured by the shop owner about my high energy 4 year old daughter who wasn't even in the store - I purposely left her outside the store with my husband. I immediately left the store and when my husband peered in wondering why I had left so quickly, the shop owner flipped him off. I am from Hawaii, but have never been treated this badly...EVER...so much for aloha. I have never posted a review before now, but felt strong enough about how I was treated to write this one as my first. read more

I love this little shop. The owner reminds me of an "Auntie". She has an excellent selection of crack seed in the back of the store and I was so excited to finally get my ginger! She was really surprised being from California that I would know what crack seed was all about. I explained I grew up with Hawaiians and they would often bring back crack seed as "omiyage" on their visits. She has a little change bowl and she says she saves up the change for the kids at the school (next door) they will come in and ask if there is money in their bowl for a soda. : D I made sure I contributed to the change bowl - its so rare these days to find folks who do something for nothing. Terrible experience. The older lady behind the counter was very rude. She questioned my wife and my' ability to read and questioned if we saw her personal mask mandate sign on her door. We apologized and said that we would leave her store as we didn't currently have masks on hand. While walking out she laughed and said "Maybe just no come back instead". Passively impolite interactions with the owner. I enjoyed the impressive selection and quality of the crack seed for sale. Really a delightful thing for my family from this island. The shop is rather filled-to-the-gills with a great variety of things for sale. However, the one little book I found on a bookshelf full of books was unmarked and when I asked for a price was told it was "not for sale" and for "easy reading." Good store for unique Hawaiian tchotchkes and local gifts. We stop in whenever at Hawaiian Style Cafe. Aunty is a character, but a very sweet one when she focuses her time on you. She frequently spends extra time with each visitor, which folks from the mainland are not used to...slow down and let her socialize...it is worth it. She has many in town friends that check on her as well, very nice to see. Recently picked up some cute Hawaiian kitchen mitts from her. She also repackages unique bulk food sweets and sours, stuff you cannot get at other stores. read more

As a lil' tourist stop (for locals too)- it's a charming place, next to our breakfast stop, the Hawaiian Style Cafe. The owner lady has her own charm- seriously. (ahem, to the one star reviewer...) The various sundries were just what we needed for our drive from Waimea to Hilo. Candied ginger, arare of various kinds, and chocolate covered coffee beans. Prices are plenty cheep, per thomas' review. I only regret not having enough suitcase space to take home more of their goodies! Be warned: this store is *not* very stroller friendly, so carry your little one close since there are a LOT of fun things to touch! read more

Beware! Ew! This lady is so nasty...(as in her attitude). My family and friends were eating next door and waiting for a table so we decided to check out this little store. As my group looked around everything was fine we even agreed to come back to get some ice cream after we ate. But boy we were not ready for such an unpleasant experience. This is the place to visit if you want to be insulted while you are trying to a nice time on vacation in Hawaii. My friend simply asked if samples were offered for the candies that were sold in the jars and she could not have responded with a more rude and racist comment. It was like she did not care for the business of tourist, which was quite obvious. Worst customer service ever. So we all left the shop without spending a penny here because there are plenty of other places with friendly staff and better items that actually deserve our business. We like to support local businesses, farmers, etc. I'm sad to say Auntie does not possess ANY aloha spirit. She was rude while opening her store but I assumed she was just rushed. When I went in to buy something and asked a simple question, she insulted me, went on a rant about what's wrong with America, and did everything possible to get me to never return. It's sad. I drool when I see the containers of crack seed, but I wish we could taste before we buy. They also either need to focus in selling cracked seeds, or kitchenware not both. Space is very limited. I read about crackseed on some Hawaii message boards and was looking forward to trying a real Hawaiian snack. However, when I tried to ask a question about one of the packages, the counter lady told me, "If you weren't raised Hawaiian, it's not for you."
