The masked owner.

Was standing on the sidewalk in front of this forgettable little business when a masked old woman starting yelling unprovoked at people to give her six feet of space to bring out her goods. Then she insulted a number of people including a couple who saw the open door, assumed it was open, and started to go in. They were told they couldn't read and then got a dissertation about how stupid tourists were and that they can't read the hours of operation sign. When I took a picture of her, she told me to post my review on Yelp, which was the first intelligent thing this auntie had to say. Mahalo.

This place is crap. The little I saw of the merchandise it was old, faded, expired, and way overpriced. The lady inside was one of the rudest people I have ever met. I find the locals to be so sweet and helpful, she is the exception!!! She is one of the craziest, rudest and most insulting people I've ever met. I think this shop is named appropriately as a front to sell crack cocaine, because the lady working there is definitely on crack. If I could give a negative rating this place would definitely get one.

two books on a table

This store has a great selection of books on Native Hawaiian culture , past and present. Ignore the negative reviews - have respect and you will be fine.

The actual image I was told not to take had been taken by another and posted? Doesn't make sense, maybe if I were dumb/worked here it would.

Rude worker (not sure if owner as this woman clearly lacked any form or ability to have the intelligence to operate a cell phone let alone a business) with a personality of my rubber slipper. No reason to ever stop in here and as a local boy, this venue is clearly a collection of stuff that belongs in a recycle pile. To call this store a "crackseed" store, which reminds so many of us local kids of our childhood days, aunty behind the counter could've at least provided a more authentic selection next to her sad excuse of Hawaii-based goods and lauhala goods. After not being greeted while looking through all the Asian country replica made products being sold as pieces of Hawaii, the worker asked me to not take a picture of her sad excuse of empty jars of crackseed items. I instantly looked on Instagram and voila the very image I wanted to take had been taken prior by someone else and posted. To top off the warm aloha spirit exuding from the worker, the signage did very little to entice commerce or interest in items but shouted NO TOUCH or other non-customer service notions to further show why this business owner clearly deserves a nice bankruptcy filing due to her care for her audience. Also, half-eaten cone sushi sitting in the refrigerator next to available products for sale inspired me to do more than simply report her to the department of health. Get a new attitude for your collection of trash for sale or take your business loan into a new means of commerce, aunty.

But as soon as we walked in, we were warmly greeted by the wonderful staff, and the whole vibe completely changed. Inside, the space is bright, inviting, and thoughtfully set up. We were offered samples of their Kona coffee along with a couple of treats of the day, which was such a nice touch. As you walk around, you can actually watch them making their delicious goodies, which makes the experience even more fun and tempting. The shop was beautifully decorated for the upcoming Easter holiday, and they also had some really lovely gift boxes--perfect if you're looking to bring something home for family or friends. There's also a small area where you can grab drinks (and possibly ice cream too). I ordered a green tea latte, and it was absolutely wonderful. Overall, such a cozy, welcoming spot with great treats and friendly service. Definitely worth stopping by--whether you're craving something sweet or looking to pick up a thoughtful gift!

I highly recommend this as one of the best chocolate tours!…read moreWe took the two hour tour with our family - it was a nice small group of six in total. Mike was not only an expert in all things chocolate, but he is easy to understand, he takes time to teach you and answer any questions and he has a great personality! It was pouring down rain the day we went, yet the tour was still a great success. We started out at the farm and then concluded down at the shop. You get to taste fresh cacao, nibs, cacao tea and kakao brew - of course at the shop are the full chocolate bars. Mike clearly loves what he does and enjoys sharing that love with his customers. The only down side is that after listening to Mike you will be ruined forever on eating any other general retail chocolate. So long Hershey and friends!

He built his cacao farm from the bottom up and it was amazing to witness his progress ever since 2017. He walked us through the seed germination process, the growing process, the fermentation process and everything before, in between and after that.. from seed all the way to chocolate bar. This tour is meant to expand your knowledge and change your perspective on how you think about, taste, and experience chocolate. At the end of the farm tour, you drive down to the gift shop (about a 3 min drive from the farm) to make any potential purchases as well as taste even more chocolate! What an amazing and unique experience in Honaka'a and 100% recommend adding this tour to your Big Island itinerary. P.S. my favorite chocolate bar is the barrel aged bourbon bar!! Notes of dark cherry with a bourbon finish :)

The food was incredible. It was interesting to hear how they use vanilla. I almost never order a grilled chicken sandwich because they're usually dry and boring, but this one was not. He gives a fabulous tour that is very engaging for everybody. Zach is also incredibly jazzed up about cooking with vanilla and he and his family live on the property and he has been on board with the Hawaiian Vanilla Company since 2023. The have just become so immersed in the vanilla. He shares his recipes and findings with you via email after the tour if you're interested. He also serves up the luncheon which for us included either a vanilla black tea, unsweetened, or a vanilla lemonade or an on Palmer of the two and a starter of a vanilla, gee infused popcorn, followed by a Kristine with vanilla Gar masala and some other vanilla spices with the shrimp and then the main courseteriyaki chicken thigh, marinated in a vanilla a brioche bond made with vanilla and a holy, made with vanilla a salad topped with a balsamic vanilla dressing and a bunch of candied vanilla pecans. After you do the vanilla tour return to the main building and enjoy coffee with vanilla and Kareem and vanilla ice cream for dessert. I had been using the other sauce of the vanilla starter kit that I purchased the last time I talked about 10 years ago and I was very happy to get more beans and some tips on starting a new batch. They have a huge variety of extract made with different types of alcohol that you can smell and they also sell of course they are double strength extract, which is the bomb, but I prefer to make my own cause then I gotta tell everybody I made my own from their beans. It did rain when we were there but they provide umbrellas and if you don't feel like walking about 3rd mile on the hill too the vanilla growing area you can't get a ride in that six seater gator back-and-forth. I highly I recommend this tour!!!

They did give samples in line though, so that was nice. I did wish I knew about the additional daily fresh fruit flavors beforehand though so that I could order those when I called! I didn't see it until I came to pick up. The place is small and only enough room for a few people at a time. The strawberry mochi is amazing! Other flavors are good too, so soft and fresh. I think it's worth going if you like mochi and have the time!

Candy has a story of local history behind it that the store owners/operators are happy to share. They are very local focused and said they have a very strict policy to only carry products from Hawaiian companies. The owners said they seek out vendors where everything is made on one of the islands and ingredients are source locally when possible. Fair trade when not. So no cheep imports here. We checked a few and couldn't find anything that didn't meet this criteria. The store is ran by a super sweet couple that reminds me of my grandparents and make you feel super welcome when you come in. They have a bit of a sense of humor about their store as well it seems. They have a secret dentist discount. So all you dentist with a sweet tooth, we found your spot. Samples! They have samples available for most products. So if you're unsure you can probably try it, but be warned if you sample it you will want to buy it. Chocoholics be warned! I saw over half a dozen local grown and made "bean to bar" as they say, chocolate crafters on their shelves and each with multiple options. Farm to table tarts. And a wall of small farm macadamia nuts options, including chocolate covered varieties, and the best friggin toffee I've ever tried. Lilikoi, Li hing, coconut options in everything. Even organic cotton Candy?? My new favorite candy store! The only negative is I don't live on the island, so I have to wait for my next visit to get my next fix.
