One of the most troubling is discovering problems with the home's foundation. We had been considering downsizing and began discussing the possibility of selling the house. Eventually, we found a real estate agent we liked. Our house was built in the late 1800's and the agent mentioned that, due to modern code, the brick foundation could likely fail inspection. That meant we had to find someone other than an ordinary handyman, someone who truly knew the ropes and could guide us to a successful inspection. Web searching eventually led us to Groundworks. After reading all the overwhelmingly positive reviews, we gave them a call. Groundworks responded by sending Jake Davis, a Field Engineer, to look things over. We were immediately impressed with his approach and professionalism. He spent several hours (not just a quick glance) ascertaining the foundation's structural integrity and produced a diagram outlining the suggested work and a detailed list of required materials. Within a few days a Groundworks crew, led by Justin with Abel and Brendon, began placing steel support beams in the areas Davis described. Justin explained each installation step from the support beams to exactly how the columns were anchored. He's one of those impressive people whom you feel genuinely take pride in their work. Not surprisingly, Jake Davis kept us updated throughout the entire process. After two days the work was finished to our complete satisfaction. If you have similar or other foundation problems call Groundworks and set up an inspection appointment. By the way, the overall cost was far less than expected. I most highly recommend Groundworks! I had a French drain system installed in my unfinished basement to "fix" my water problem, this set me back like 8k. 6 months later I'm in closing, selling the home and the buyer demands and inspection. Of the basement and I have them back out, I thought it would be a formality as I'd already installed the system. Nope, the recommended MORE French drains knowing full well that if they recommended it the buyer would demand it and my hands would be tied. I feel totally excepted by these people and will never do business with them again.

D.Masonry - The scary pillar Before-and-After. (1930's "clinker" brick is supposed to look uneven)

And I called one other company for a second bid. David showed up in time for our appointment, and his explanation of the problem (80 year old mortar in our brick house was falling out). The previous owner had gotten some of it repaired. That mortar was failing, too. I was particularly concerned because one pillar that carries a heavy load was cracked so badly (see photo) that you could see daylight through it from top to bottom. David explained why it had failed, and how the repair work someone had done years ago made matters worse. His bid that was about the same price as the other firm, but his explanation -- and the bid itself -- were so clear that D. Masonry was my obvious choice. He provided me with proof of insurance, too, a request the other company ignored. They lived up to my high expectations. Watching them work, I realized that tuck pointing is a highly skilled craft, practically an art form. They took the time to mix and try a range of mortar colors. With their help, we selected the one they advised. Now that the new mortar has completely dried, I can see it is a perfect color match. The pillar I was so nervous about? They elaborately jacked up and stabilized things, so they could remove the pillar, which they disassembled completely, laying out all the bricks (with all the old mortar removed), so they could put them back exactly as they were, only sturdy now, and good as new. Masonry repairs -- done well -- simply disappear when the work is done, right? As long as I own this house, my gratitude for this job-well-done will live on.

Communication was great, David even called me to let me know he was going to be a half hour late. Fantatstic work. Would hire again.

Both had been damaged by long term soil settlement and an unfortunately aggressive tree root. The interior garage slab process went extremely well with no issues. They were able to remove the tree root, re-prep the substrate and pour a new slab that slopes to the door so water from wet vehicles will drain. The exterior porch was a bit more of a challenge. We had experienced significant settlement of the soil against the house due to improper backfill and compaction during the original construction. SRG excavation down approx. 6' and removed all of the bad soil and backfilled with road base and recycled concrete while compacting in lifts. Once this was complete, they prepped and poured and new front porch, patio and sidewalk in front of the garage/driveway. Unfortunately the concrete pour did not go according to plan. The concrete material was not per specification (we think it had flyash in it from the plant). This made the concrete material sticky and difficult to place and stamp. After 24 hours of cure time, we noticed that the surface of the concrete was starting to develop many small hairline cracks (plastic shrinkage cracks) throughout the surface of the concrete. After multiple discussions with SRG, and Sergio's subsequent discussions with the concrete supplier, I made the decision to have all of the stamped patio removed and re-poured. Sergio at SRG displayed his business integrity by agreeing to perform this re-work at no additional cost to me, while also being told by the concrete supplier that they took no responsibility for the issue. SRG returned approx. 3 weeks after the initial pour, removed all of the stamped concrete, and re-poured the entire porch, patio and sidewalk in a weekend. Again, at no additional cost to me for the issue. Although our project didn't go exactly as planned, I would still recommend SRG for your project as they acted with a high level of business integrity and did what was necessary to provide the client with a great finished product.

The work was done quickly and efficiently even in this summer's blistering heat. In just three days, the yard went from dirt to beautiful, tiered flagstone walls. The quality of this team's work is excellent. Sergio, the owner, provided a complete written quote that outlined the pertinent details and was supported with AI generated images of the "after" look, which confirmed that we were on the same page regarding the design. Once underway, the job progressed quickly and smoothly. (We're doing the planting, which is in progress.) Would we turn the SRG Hardscaping again should we need stone or brick work in the future? Absolutely.

One of our biggest projects to tackle was the fireplace. We envisioned not only keeping it wood burning but making the room feel less like a cave and more bright, cozy and welcoming. We contacted several fireplace vendors and found one that helped with the pieces, but for our actual project we were told "you need a mason." So to the search engines we went. After talking and meeting with a few and getting some quotes, we chose to go with Adkins Masonry and are glad we did. From the beginning, Tommy was fantastic to work with. It's clear through conversation that he's passionate about what he does, and equally clear that he's very talented after looking though his portfolio. In the grand scheme of things, our project was pretty minor compared to a lot of jobs he does, but he treated us as if ours was the most important one whenever we met or discussed it. It was about a year in the making. We had an initial meeting to suss out our vision and come up with a plan. Then my partner and I took our sweet time to make sure we found the right natural stone for the look we were going for. We then started the demo, which was done incrementally as our project evolved over time. It took a while for the stone and hearth to come in, but once it arrived, Tommy was able to really get going. Since we were keeping it wood burning, and since Tommy is a mason, we ended up using brick rather than wood to frame it out which helped insulate it and make it safer. He also placed insulation over the vent, which did not exist on the original, to help protect the electrical and cable wires that ran behind it. We debated putting the TV over the mantel vs off to the side, and we ended up running power for both options to future proof it. Once the brick was laid and dried, he and his crew installed the concrete mantel and the giant hearth (which I cannot even begin to tell you how heavy it was). Next, he began to overlay the stone, first mortared into place, and then grouted to finish with the right color. It was really crazy to watch how each step completely transformed the project again and again. We are so happy with the way it turned out. The room still has a ways to go (floors, trim and oh, furniture) but I cannot recommend Tommy and Adkins Masonry highly enough. He was a complete pleasure to work with.
