footprints after the job was "complete"

I would not recommend this company. Carlos and his co worker have decided that my project is not worth making right. Their employee walked across our newly poured driveway and now they do not want to "own" fixing the shoe prints. One picture is what it looked like originally and then their version of fixing it, which now it looks worse. No Credit to our account, no partial refund nothing.

They were fantastic. I sent a request during the week via yelp, and CGC was ready to do a quote on Saturday. They were polite, shook our hands, and even showed up early. They gave us a great quote. I asked when they would be ready to pour, he said Tuesday weather depending. I received a message Sunday night, that they would be ready Monday if I was. Perfect. They showed up the Monday, the crew was quiet and worked hard, they even did firewatch for 3o mins, odd, but they did it. I had dug out a bunch of sod and it was piled on the side of the road, they scooped it up and put it in their trailer without even asking. The pad is perfect, aligned with everything around it, and the job site was left topless. I had asked them to fill in a sidewalk slab, and they did it, no charge. CGC was fantastic to work with, my neighbour grabbed them to pour a size patio pad, and he is happy too. Their work exceeded any city permit requirements. Very happy customer

    After Garage Floor

Custom Grey did a great job replacing 2 driveways, our walkway and the floor of the garage. They work very hard and get the job done. We had weeds coming up from the cracks. The garage floor was uneven. The driveway was cracked and falling apart. They ran the gutter under the walkway and had to be careful where the gas line comes up. My before and after pictures don't do justice because the cement was still wet for the after pictures. They came when they said they would be there. They worked all day and stayed on schedule and the price was right. We are very pleased with the results. Plus they let us have the dog make a paw print in the floor. Definitely would recommend.

Carlos and his team did a phenomenal Job. I laid out the plans and he gave me some excellent ideas to tweak the final product. I am very pleased with the work and the value for the final product was outstanding. Great work! Highly recommend!

Carlos at Custom Grey Concrete did an excellent job replacing our driveway and porch. He pointed out that a small section of rocks near the house and porch was causing the driveway to crack and the porch to sink because water was getting in there and going under the driveway and porch. He replaced that section with concrete as shown in the fourth photo. His crew was efficient and quick. His price was the most reasonable of the three quotes we got. We are very happy with the results!

We worked with Custom Grey on a pathway around our home. Carlos was able to come out quickly to do the quote, the quote came back the next day, and it was right in line with a few other quotes we received. They were able to work with us to wait until the HOA approved the work and scheduled us very quickly after that. Once they started work, it only took them a fraction of two days, and the work was clean. We were honestly blown away and didn't realize concrete could be so beautiful. Carlos and his team knew exactly what we wanted and we hardly had to weigh in. Maria at the office is also very sweet and patient. We eventually may want to put in a back concrete patio - if we go that route, Carlos will be our first call.

I wanted to wait at least six months after the job was completed to leave Custom Grey a review. With concrete, things can go wrong months after the job is completed, that is not the case with our driveway, we are very happy with it, we felt that the company was very reasonably priced, and they did the work in just a few days. I recommend this company to all my friends and family who are looking for a concrete contractor. The driveway they poured was over 3600 ft.², he did the whole thing in 2.5 days, in the winter, it's amazing how efficient they worked, I loved watching them.

Carlos and crew were awesome! We had a side walkway and an extension of our patio done and it looks fantastic. Carlos was very communicative and the crew were all very nice. So happy we chose them and would highly recommend them!

Concrete on the fence that was never cleaned up.

When working with a contractor, I expect three things. One, do the job well and communicate when you'll be doing it. Two, keep the homeowner's workspace clean and free of damage. Three, listen to customer concerns and take them seriously. Custom Grey Concrete failed at each of these. This was our experience: The team's communication was very bad. When it came to scheduling the work, I was always pursuing them because they would never offer a clear time frame. We understand working around rain days, but communicating with customers is a basic courtesy. They would suddenly text or call me multiple times the day they were ready to start with the expectation that we would clear our schedules to suddenly be ready too. They went dark for more than a week at a time, more than once. This team doesn't care about keeping property clean. The day the concrete was being poured I noticed the crew throwing the used forms up against our side fence, splattering concrete on it. I messaged Carlos about this, more than once, but it was never cleaned (photo-1). This was the same day I contacted him about trash in the yard. He called his guys, who returned and only cleaned up a single bottle. We had trash and recycling containers next to the patio, but they would leave trash on the ground. Their crew damaged our home. Since the patio was built on the back of a new garage, we requested a clean workspace at the start. Carlos was great at saying, "Yes of course, we have so much experience, trust me..." but they never taped off or protected the structure. So, concrete splattered up above the patio onto the new structure, which looked awful (photo-2). This felt unacceptable, so I sent him a picture and he later sent guys to pressure wash everything. But - the pressure washer removed or bubbled up paint, did not clean the concrete completely, and now the transition from patio to structure looks worse (photo-3). We will have to repair and repaint this damage ourselves since Carlos did not. The stamp pattern wasn't aligned with the house. We suppose this could be subjective, but we were stunned to see that the basic brick pattern was visually off, angling and veering off to one direction (photo-4). Carlos became frustrated that I brought this up as a concern. He told me it's the stamp and that it's rubber, so it can't be straight. As if these small things weren't already creating a larger disappointment, Carlos began questioning "what I know" about concrete. He would tell me that he's never had an unhappy customer, and he has years of experience. He has so many positive reviews. And, clearly he does. Which is why this was such a bizarre experience for us! With so many small things "off" about the job, everything became noticeable. I called Carlos one final time. I asked him to come out to the job site to look at what we were seeing. Yet again he told me that I don't know what I'm talking about. He told me he was very busy. He became frustrated on the phone. He acted like these issues were our problem. He then said I was "pissing him off" and again reminded me of all of his great reviews and happy customers. He told me that I was complaining about things that don't matter. He started cutting me off mid-sentence and the call went nowhere. He said, "C'mon Chris... it's concrete, it's messy, this is construction. You are pissing me off." The last straw was when someone from his team came out to seal the patio and wrap up the job. After taking a look at the work, there are roller marks and drips down the sides (photo-5) and large chunks of concrete from the original form still remain in the yard, with small areas that didn't get covered with sealant (photo-6/7). I guess we get to clean that up, too? Working with Custom Grey Concrete was a stressful and disappointing two months. We would never recommend this company after our experience. The way the crew handled the project from start to finish, and the way ownership lacked all accountability, is an absolute shame.

    Original Driveway

Overall, I was very happy with the work Carlos did with our driveway. We wanted to expand our driveway, and when receiving quotes for the project, Carlos came in well below the rest. The only thing I might adjust would be the clear sealant I was talked into getting. Carlos said to give the sealant a few months and it won't look patchy. So far, about 2 months later it still is patchy, but I have no reason to not trust Carlos so I will give it a few more months before I adjust my review.

And I called one other company for a second bid. David showed up in time for our appointment, and his explanation of the problem (80 year old mortar in our brick house was falling out). The previous owner had gotten some of it repaired. That mortar was failing, too. I was particularly concerned because one pillar that carries a heavy load was cracked so badly (see photo) that you could see daylight through it from top to bottom. David explained why it had failed, and how the repair work someone had done years ago made matters worse. His bid that was about the same price as the other firm, but his explanation -- and the bid itself -- were so clear that D. Masonry was my obvious choice. He provided me with proof of insurance, too, a request the other company ignored. They lived up to my high expectations. Watching them work, I realized that tuck pointing is a highly skilled craft, practically an art form. They took the time to mix and try a range of mortar colors. With their help, we selected the one they advised. Now that the new mortar has completely dried, I can see it is a perfect color match. The pillar I was so nervous about? They elaborately jacked up and stabilized things, so they could remove the pillar, which they disassembled completely, laying out all the bricks (with all the old mortar removed), so they could put them back exactly as they were, only sturdy now, and good as new. Masonry repairs -- done well -- simply disappear when the work is done, right? As long as I own this house, my gratitude for this job-well-done will live on.

    Adkins Masonry - The update!

One of our biggest projects to tackle was the fireplace. We envisioned not only keeping it wood burning but making the room feel less like a cave and more bright, cozy and welcoming. We contacted several fireplace vendors and found one that helped with the pieces, but for our actual project we were told "you need a mason." So to the search engines we went. After talking and meeting with a few and getting some quotes, we chose to go with Adkins Masonry and are glad we did. From the beginning, Tommy was fantastic to work with. It's clear through conversation that he's passionate about what he does, and equally clear that he's very talented after looking though his portfolio. In the grand scheme of things, our project was pretty minor compared to a lot of jobs he does, but he treated us as if ours was the most important one whenever we met or discussed it. It was about a year in the making. We had an initial meeting to suss out our vision and come up with a plan. Then my partner and I took our sweet time to make sure we found the right natural stone for the look we were going for. We then started the demo, which was done incrementally as our project evolved over time. It took a while for the stone and hearth to come in, but once it arrived, Tommy was able to really get going. Since we were keeping it wood burning, and since Tommy is a mason, we ended up using brick rather than wood to frame it out which helped insulate it and make it safer. He also placed insulation over the vent, which did not exist on the original, to help protect the electrical and cable wires that ran behind it. We debated putting the TV over the mantel vs off to the side, and we ended up running power for both options to future proof it. Once the brick was laid and dried, he and his crew installed the concrete mantel and the giant hearth (which I cannot even begin to tell you how heavy it was). Next, he began to overlay the stone, first mortared into place, and then grouted to finish with the right color. It was really crazy to watch how each step completely transformed the project again and again. We are so happy with the way it turned out. The room still has a ways to go (floors, trim and oh, furniture) but I cannot recommend Tommy and Adkins Masonry highly enough. He was a complete pleasure to work with.
