My daughter wanted a burger for brunch! Typical of an 11 year old. So, after a morning of shopping at the San Marcos outlets, we stopped this Cracker Barrel location. My daughter and enjoyed the old time feeling of their gift shop and country souther hospitality of the staff. Her burger was juicy and the fries were crispy, just like she likes them. I also tried Grandmothers special breakfast and that too was very pleasant. Cracker Barrel is staple in the south and the food/service is the reason why. Stop in and see for yourself. read more

very cute and quaint restaurant with a general store in the front. Very spacious with lots of tables. We got the campfire beef and Louisiana style grilled shrimp, both tasted great. The best part was probably the cornbread that came with in the beginning. Also get the fresh pink lemonade if it's on the menu. only negative that we had was the floor had a lot of food and wasn't clean at the first table that we seated. Very loud inside and the food wasn't great. I wouldn't go back here and wished I'd have gone to ihop across the highway instead. The pancake was horrible and the so called maple syrup in its cute little bottle tasted like simple sugar water. The free biscuits were a nice touch while we waited but they were lousy too. The waiter was nice but we didn't see him much and the guy who brought us our food didn't really want to refill our coffee but did so grudgingly. I don't get the whole scene of pouring you your coffee from a carafe at the table which barely had enough in it to fill your cup. Why bother with the show? Normally they do that if they're going to leave the carafe with you but they did not do that here. read more

I have not been here in FOREVER since I was a little kid, but wish I had come back to visit sooner! First off when you walk in you go through their store. It's pretty dangerous because you will want to buy everything haha I ended up buying some cute Christmas ornaments. We were seated quickly during lunchtime and our orders taken. I went with the Country Fried Shrimp with a side of Mashed Potatoes and Mac n' Cheese. The portion was HUGE! It even came with fries. It had good flavor and I couldn't finish it all. Leftovers were enough for another meal. The meals are also served with Buttermilk Biscuits and Corn Muffins. Brought back some childhood nostalgia for me. Although the service was ok, she could not make up for the condition of the food. I ordered the hamburger steak with sliced tomatoes and a baked potato with butter only. The hamburger steak was very very well done to the point I could not chew it. Although the potato was good, it was cold, to the degree the butter would not melt. The only part of the order that was ok, was the tomato slices. Even the iced tea was on the strong side. I have been eating at different Cracker Barrel's all over the USA for over 35 years and the quality and quantity of the food has deteriorated significantly over the last few years. It had been a while since my wife and I ate at Cracker Barrel. It had been a favorite of ours in the past. I ordered the country fried steak with mashed potatoes and okra. I remember the country fried steaks as hand breaded and large enough that it took up its own platter. What I got looked like a Sysco pressed meat pattie and tasted like one too. The mashed potatoes weren't creamy or fluffy, but lumpy. The okra was fine. Add in a soda that cost almost $4. I see what people have been complaining about. I had the country ham and eggs with hash brown casserole. The ham was shoe leather, overly salty to the point I had to stop eating it after a few bites unable to cut the ham. The hash brown casserole was a starchy pasty mound of goo that did not resemble hash browns in the least. Of course salty in attempt to replace flavor. When the food did get here my food was incorrect I order Chicken Fried Steak they brought Chicken fried chicken.. and was basically like well it will take 10 minutes to get the right order... do you just want this instead... NO if I wanted Chicken I would go to KFC.. Then the child's plate was not edible... the meat was so done it was like leather she nearly choked... and the steak fries were waaaaay over cooked. I enjoy going to Cracker Barrel because it's pretty consistent wherever you go. Had to wait about 15 minutes for a table during weekday lunch. This place was surprisingly busy. I had the sweet and smoky glazed tenders. They were heavily breaded and relatively crispy. I wish they had more glaze- they seemed like plain chicken tenders with a drizzle of glaze and some bacon sprinkled on top rather than a fully glazed plate of tenders. They definitely needed the ranch (our server was really nice and brought me both plain ranch and dill ranch). The bread and sides are my favorite thing here. Cornbread muffins are delicious with some butter. The Mac and cheese was creamy, not the best Mac and cheese in the world but it does hit the spot and satisfy your craving. We live 50 minutes away from the San Marcos TX location. This is the closest one to me. I was taking a group of 10 people and a couple of the kids wanted to go here. We went around 6 in the afternoon. First they would not put tables together so we had to sit at multiple tables. Not really a big deal because the tables were near enough. The real problem came when they sat us at tables facing due west. The sun was blaring right into our eyes. The waitress was kind enough to lower the blinds like any business would do. Now understand, they only lowered them enough to stop us from being BLINDED by the sun. A few minutes later someone came over and without any warning pulled the blinds up. We lowered them part way again and so did a separate customer near us. Some guy came over and pulled the blinds up. We tried to explain to him that we were being blinded by the sun. The first lame excuse was "Some people want to be able to see their cars." Keep in mind we only needed them lowered just enough to screen out the sun. When we questioned his insistence about blinding us he then came up with another excuse, "Iur corporate policy is that the blinds must be at a certain level and never moved." He became rather ignorant when I asked him, If that is the case, why do you have movable blinds? I would have walked out but the kids wanted to stay. At our insistence we were moved to another area. Ironically, after about 15 minutes the sun had moved to where it was not blinding us. To add some salt to the sour experience I contacted the corporate office through their website. I specifically asked if it was true that the corporate policy dictates that the blinds must never be moved even though their customers were being blinded. The company responded apologetically and said, "We are going to send you a comp to make up for what happened." They did not answer my simple question. I responded asking them directly again. I asked them the 3rd time. They never responded to my second and third replies. So I went back to their website and created a new inquiry. This time I asked them directly without any other information about our experience. I received a reply saying " We are sorry about your inconvenience." They still have not responded a week later! What a shame. Cracker Barrel should be ashamed of themselves for their utter ineptitude both in their restaurant and their customer service response team. I have been patronizing their restaurants for a very long time and all over the country. I will never go to another one. While I have had good experiences with other locations the one in San Marcos Texas is a joke! read more

I tried the fried chicken, meatloaf and soups.. there too many m Lpthings to choose from so my fallback is always the fried chicken. Your mean comes with generous number of corn bread and biscuits while you wait for your food. I prefer the cornbread , but both are Good. They don't have a bar but They have a couple of drinks ..I tried a margarita.. wondering if it was a wine- Arita, didn't really seem to have that tequila kick. When you enter there is their store that can leave you browsing a while. From candy to women's , men and kids wear. Occasionally you'll find a great deal, during summer I found a beautiful sweater for $17. It can be dangerous to browse as for myself I always buy something. I was actually shocked to learn via Yelp the San Marcos Cracker Barrel earns more stars than any other IHOP location in nearly all of Texas. Sign of the times folks, another COVID-19 review. Girlfriend and I decided to go for a drive; ended up using the app to order. I wanted fish, she wanted chicken fried chicken.That combination is hard to find in a drive-thru. We arrived a bit early and spent some time under a shade tree. I called the number as directed; food came out quite quickly. Gentleman was super friendly too. Missteps happen, and perhaps the staff didn't understand we were gonna be dining in the parking lot. No utensils or straws were in the bag. I ended up having to enter the restaurant...twice. Now that I recall, third time because I drank my HUGE tea. My grilled catfish was cooked perfectly paired with hashbrown casserole and green beans. Her CFC was crisp and juicy paired with fried apples and steak fries. Biscuits were provided with butter and all requests for sauces were accounted for. Kudos the app developer. I say that because on the new fancy touch screen at McDonalds you can't add mac sauce to anything. For fun I installed the McD app on my phone to see if I could do it on mobile order...crashed repeatedly. FYI - The entire Cracker Barrel menu is not available. I don't eat here too often but we noticed fried okra, cornbread, and kale salad were absent when ordering.
